Uh oh. Phineas, nothing good can come from saying "nothing can possibly go wrong."

Chapter 3: Abandon Ship

"Hey Ferb," Phineas said. "Next time we build a yacht for Milo, let's coat the outer hull with Effectium too."

Ferb nodded.

"How did an iceberg scrape the hull of the ship?" Baljeet cried. "It is sixty-five degrees out!"

"Phineas!" Candace cried as water from the deck's swimming pool splashed out and onto her shoes. "Didn't you guys include some lifeboats?"

"Yes, yes we did," Phineas called back.

"Then why aren't we in them?" Candace bellowed.

"Isabella's still doing a headcount," Phineas explained as various foods from the buffet table slid past.

"Aw, man, there go the nachos," Buford complained.

"Can we please focus on getting off the yacht?" Cavendish asked.

"Okay!" Isabella called out. "Doofenshmirtz, Dakota and Cavendish, you three get into this first lifeboat."

"Why should we take orders from a child?" Cavendish grumbled.

"Hey man, that kid's better at adulting than most adults will ever be," Doofenshmirtz pointed out.

""Adulting" is not a word, but whatever," Cavendish muttered.

"Can we just get off this sinking ship?" Dakota begged. He had already sat down at the front of the lifeboat. Cavendish sighed and sat in the middle. Doofenshmirtz shrugged and settled in the back. As soon as the trio were all seated, the lifeboat mechanically lowered itself into the water below.

"Candace, Zack and Melissa, you're next," Isabella said.

"You should sit in the back, Candace," Zack insisted.

"Why is it so important for me to be behind you guys?" Candace narrowed her eyes.

"Because of your, uh, height?" Zack stuttered.

Candace's face brightened. "Okay!" she said as she turned her focus to getting into the lifeboat.

Melissa punched Zack in the shoulder. "Ow! What was that for?" Zack asked.

"You were making fun of her neck," Melissa hissed.

"You're the one who thought she was a Pistachion because of that neck," Zack hissed back as Melissa sat in the middle of the boat. Zack followed and took the front seat, triggering the mechanism to lower the lifeboat.

"Baljeet and Buford, you're with me," Isabella directed as she got in the front of their lifeboat. Baljeet settled behind Isabella, with Buford taking up the rear.

"Ow!" Baljeet cried as the lifeboat lowered into the water. "How are you giving me a wedgie while I am sitting down?"

"Just wanted to see if it could be done," Buford said.

"It should not be possible!" Baljeet argued.

"Then it appears I have a gift," Buford smirked as their lifeboat lowered itself.

"I am so glad I told my fellow Fireside Girls to remain in Danville," Isabella sighed.

That just left Milo, Phineas and Ferb aboard the sinking remains of the S.S. Law and Effect. The enormous yacht was now almost completely submerged, with only a small section of the floor still dry. The one remaining lifeboat bobbed nearby. "How do we know that this lifeboat won't sink like the yacht?" Milo asked. "Is it coated with Effectium?"

Phineas shook his head. "No, although we probably should have done that," Phineas said as he sat in the back of the lifeboat. "But we do have another safeguard in place for Murphy's Law," Phineas added as Ferb sat at the front of the lifeboat.

"Really? What is it?" Milo asked eagerly.

"It's Ferb and me!" Phineas grinned. "Baljeet figured out that, if you stand or sit between us, the Phineas and Ferb Effect will push Murphy's Law straight up. That way, there is a less likely chance that the negative probability ions will effect us directly."

"Wow!" Milo exclaimed. Then, looking at his feet he added "I sure hope you're right. Because my shoes are now waterlogged and I could use a replacement pair."

Milo gingerly stepped into the lifeboat and sat in the middle. "So, where are we going?" he asked.

"Ferb has a map of the area," Phineas pointed toward his brother. "And he already memorized the best route to get to a nearby deserted island. We'll work out the next phase of our plan when we get there."

"All right everybody!" Isabella called as her boat bobbed in the waves next to the other three lifeboats. "There are oars attached to the sides of your lifeboats. The island is within rowing distance, so unhook the oars and row, row, row!"

"This is taking forever!" Candace complained as she rowed.

"I didn't even get my nachos at the buffet before the yacht sank," Buford muttered.

"And I didn't get any eggs," Dakota mumbled.

Milo was too occupied with his thoughts to pay attention to the complaints. Murphy's Law had already taken the oar that came with the boat (a seagull swooped down and stole it). Two of the three extra oars Milo had packed in his backpack were gone now too. A swordfish had leapt out of the water and speared one of the backup oars, while a giant octopus arm had burst out of the water to snatch the other.

"These Murphy's Law incidents so far may have been limited to my oars, but they are getting weirder," Milo spoke up. "I wouldn't be surprised if the next incident would be worse."

"Milo!" Zack moaned. "The swordfish was bad enough. You should know better than anyone not to jinx it!"

"Just thought I'd warn you guys," Milo shrugged.

"Milo has a point," Baljeet admitted. "I have been observing these Murphy's Law incidents and all of the oars have been taken from animals either above or below the lifeboat."

"So having Milo sit between Phineas and Ferb prevents the negative ions from effecting Murphy's Law around them, but it still makes things go wrong from above or below," Melissa summed up.

"Come on everybody, I can see the shore!" Dakota cheered. "We're home free!"

Just then, Ferb pointed up. "What is it, bro?" Phineas asked as Milo spotted something falling from the sky.

"Uh, guys?" Milo started, but didn't get to finish before a satellite crashed into the water behind the four lifeboats.

The force of the satellite hitting the water caused a giant wave to swell underneath the lifeboats. The next thing they knew, everyone in the lifeboats hung on tightly to the sides as the wave transported them over the island's rocky shore…

…Over a forest of strange, tropical flora…

…Over a river of lava…

…Over a shipwreck graveyard…

…And crashed down just in front of the closed gate built into a giant, wooden wall.
