An Unexpected Discovery

"Esme are you in there…?" Spencer calls out as he knocks on the door to her room at Wyndemere. He knocks again and then quickly looks around surveying his surroundings. He pulls out his phone for a moment thinking.

"She must still be at Shadybrook…" He thinks to himself. He figured that was where she was, and he hoped he had more time to do some snooping around before she came home. Spencer wanted to continue to search for evidence to exonerate Trina. He felt like time was of the essence. And seeing Trina growing closer to Rory was further fueling his desire to clear her name. Spencer knocks one more time and then cracks open the door. He does not see anything, and he pushes it open even further. He looks behind him and then steps inside of the room, closing the door behind him. He looks around the room thinking.

"There must be something else in here that I can find that can help Trina's case…" Spencer thinks to himself. He looks around the room some more and then decides to go near a drawer in the room. The drawer was slightly open, and Spencer wondered if there was something in there he could find to use as evidence. He pulls it open further and starts to rummage through it hoping to find something. He closes his eyes for a moment when he feels a bit of a breeze hit his face. He looks up and sees that the door leading out to the parapet was opened a bit. Spencer goes over to the door to close it when he hears a sound. He sticks his head out for a moment to see what made it and is surprised by what he sees.

"Esme…" He calls out his eyes widening at the sight of her. He does a double take when he sees her. "What are you doing out here and why…?" Spencer's eyes widen again as he observes how she is dressed. "Why are you out here like this?" He asks. He looks Esme over again and her eyes widen in shock as he sees her wearing nothing but a bra and underwear.

"Spence!" Esme responds shocked and embarrassed to see him. "Uh…" She begins quickly trying to think of something to explain her predicament.

'What are you doing out here like this?" He repeats. "Why are you standing like that?" Spencer asks, still a bit surprised to see her outside dressed in that manner. "You look like you're hiding or something." He observes. "Are you in trouble?" He asks. "Is someone after you? Did someone hurt you?" He racks his brain for a moment trying to come up with possible theories as to why she appeared to be hiding outside in her underclothes.

"Uh…no…" Esme nervously responds. She had not intended for Spencer to catch her like this. The last thing she wanted was for him to see her like this especially after what had just happened with her. She had almost got caught by Ava a few minutes earlier and just barely dodged that bullet. She had hoped she could scurry back inside of her room before anyone else showed up. But now Spencer showed up and that threw a wrench in everything. Esme frowns as she tries to think of a reason to explain why she was out on the parapet scantily dressed. Something that would keep Spencer at bay. She racks her brain as Spencer continues to observe her and survey the situation.

"Are you sure?" He asks looking over her carefully. "No one tried to do anything to you?" He asks. "Because you really look like you're hiding." He repeats looking at her holding some more clothes in her hand.

"No… no one tried to hurt me…" Esme repeats.

Spencer looks her over once more and realizes she is telling the truth about that. "Okay…" He says glad that the alarming scenarios that raced through his mind had not played out. Spencer was not fond of Esme these days, but he also had hoped that no one had sexually assaulted or attacked her. He was glad that did not seem to be the case.

"Okay so why are you out here?" He asks. He looks behind him. "And do you want to come back inside…"

"Yeah, I maybe I should do that…" Esme asks quickly moving towards him. He steps aside and she moves past him going back into her room.

"So, what were you doing out there like this?" Spencer asks again. "Soaking up some sun?" He asks. "Look I know you like to do some more adventurous things…" He begins. "But underwear sunbathing on the parapet didn't seem like one of them." He states. "So, what's the deal?"

"Give me a minute Spence…" Esme quickly requests, running into the bathroom. She closes the door behind her and leans behind it closing her eyes for a moment, a rush going through her. Esme was not sure how she was going to talk her way through this. She rests her eyes for a moment and then gets dressed back in her regular clothes. A few minutes later she comes back out and goes and stands in front of Spencer. She folds her arms as they look at each other.

"Well, are you going to answer me?" He asks.

"What were you doing in here in my room by yourself?" Esme shoots back at him. "Were you snooping through my stuff again?" She questions. "Are you still not respecting my privacy...?" She asks narrowing her eyes at him.

"Esme I just found you almost naked on the parapet and you looked like you were trying to evade someone…?" Spencer retorts. "Why don't you answer that question first…" He demands still wondering why she was hiding out on the balcony like that.

"I told you no one hurt me…" She responds.

"And I'm glad they didn't." Spencer tells her sincerely. "But were you out there like that…" He questions again.

"You really should answer my question about you being in my room unattended once again first…" Esme remarks.

"My question is more important…" Spencer states.

Esme sighs and looks to the side thinking about how she should answer Spencer's question. Spencer looks her over again for a moment and then notices something behind her.

"What is that?" He asks looking at a piece of clothing.

Esme turns to look behind him and her eyes widen. "Oh, that's nothing…" She quickly says and reaches down to grab the article of clothing. She becomes nervous and it slips out her hand and Spencer looks at it more closely.

"That looks like a guy's shirt!" Spencer exclaims. "And it's not mine…" He notes. "Esme did you… are you…?" His voice trails off as the realization hit him. "You're cheating on me!" He exclaims.

"No, I'm…I'm…" Esme stammers as she watches Spencer figure out the truth.

"You are!" Spencer exclaims. "That is why you were hiding out on the balcony... Maybe you heard me knocking and you decided to hide…" He guesses. "Is the guy you're cheating with here?" He questions. He looks around and then heads towards a closet. "Is he in here?" He asks as he opens the closet door.

"Spence don't!" Esme calls behind him as he opens the closet door. She breathes a sigh of relief when he realizes there are only clothes in there.

"Okay so your sidepiece is not in here." He remarks. "But he was in here…" Spencer remarks looking around thinking. "You slept with someone in this room…" He realizes. He looks down at the crumpled shirt in her hand. Esme sees him doing this and hides it behind her back.

"It's not what you think Spence…" She tries to explain. "This is my shirt…" She lies.

"That is not your shirt." Spencer responds angrily. "It's too big for you…"

"Well maybe it's your shirt…" Esme responds back.

"Seriously?!" Spencer lets out a laugh. He turns his head to the side in disbelief and then turns his attention back to Esme. "Wow… you must really think I am an idiot." He accuses her. "We haven't been together like that in a while now Esme." He shakes his head. "You wouldn't have my shirt in here." He frowns. "Save your lies." He tells her. "You're creeping with another man." He states. "And I deserve to know who." He demands.

He sighs and several thoughts and emotions go through him as he realizes what Esme has done. Spencer did not care for Esme the way he used to and certainly not as much as he cared for Trina, but he still hated that she had betrayed and once again played him for a fool.

"Is it one of the staff?" He begins to question. "I see the way you've flirted with some of them and some of them are not that much older than you and me…" He begins.

"Or some guy from PCU?" He asks. "Did you find a new man there?" He shakes his head. "I know I haven't been at home as much, which would give you more of an opportunity to fool around." He muses. "But we have a really good security team here…" He informs her. "And if you are sneaking a dude in and out of here while I'm at work… I will find out who it is, Esme…" Spencer warns her. "It's just a matter of time…" He predicts.

Esme's eyes widen after Spencer says that. She then takes a breath and decides to try and keep her composure.

"Oh… Spence…" She remarks sighing. She rolls her eyes.

"Oh, Spence what?" Spencer asks annoyed by her attitude. "You were just caught red handed and you're acting like it's not a big deal..."

"Spence you…" Esme pauses as she thinks about what she wanted to say. "Don't have to put on such an act about how angry you are about what just happened." She finishes.

"I'm not putting on an act…" Spencer responds getting angrier with her. "I am upset that you would betray me like this…" He remarks gesturing towards his chest.

"But you are…" Esme insists. "You're not really all that upset that you just found out about my transgression…" Esme says looking down for a moment, lightly tapping her fingers on her arms. She looks back up at him.

"You're probably happy that you discovered this so that you can now do what you really want to do…"

Spencer shakes his head in disbelief. "Esme what are you getting at?" He asks.

"Now that you have discovered my indiscretion this opens up the door to free you for being with who you really want to be with…" Esme continues. "The girl that continuously gets your attention, the reason why you opened my door to begin with…" She goes on.

"Esme…"

"You want to be with Trina and now that you've discovered I cheated on you, this frees you up to be with her." Esme declares. "Or are you going to deny that?"

Spencer becomes quiet for a moment as he processes Esme's claim. There was truth in what she was saying at least about him wanting to be with Trina. Though he still did not like the thought of Esme playing him for a fool and cheating on him. Especially in his own home after his family offered her a place to stay when she had nowhere else to go. Spencer was angered by Esme's behavior and under different circumstances he would have severed his ties with her on the spot. But he felt that Trina needed his help and he still needed to be around Esme long enough to prove her innocence. This dalliance of Esme's did put a major wrinkle in his plan, and he was not sure how he wanted to handle things.

Esme watches Spencer as he is deep in thought. "You know you can be up front about it…" She tells him. "You have constantly disrespected me with the loyalty you have shown that girl, so don't act all surprised when I sought comfort from someone else." She tells him, with a hint of bitterness in her tone.

"Constantly disrespected you…" Spencer says raising his voice. "And loyalty?" He asks. "You are the one that has gotten my loyalty, Trina thinks I have completely turned my back on her." He comments sighing when he thinks once again how Trina did not think he believed her. Spencer really hated that she thought that. She really had no idea how he really felt about her.

"Yes, that what she thinks, but I don't believe that to be the case." Esme responds giving Spencer a suspicious look. "Tell me once again why you were snooping through my room and invading my privacy…" She asks angry. "Does this have to do with Trina and your feelings for her…"

"This isn't about Trina…" Spencer lies.

"Yes, it is!" Esme claims tiring of him and his dishonesty. "Yes, it is." She points out. "It's always about her, Spence!" She exclaims frustrated. "It always is and I'm sick of it…"

"No…" Spencer shakes his head swiftly. "You are not about to blame your indiscretion on Trina, I will not stand for it…" He states angrily. "You are not." He declares firmly. "Trina is not in a relationship with me..." He states. "Trina is not living in this house due to my family's generosity, Trina is not the one that I have to keep constantly defending, She is not the one that nobody trusts..." He continues and his comments cause Esme to frown.

"Trina is not the one that trouble follows wherever she goes..." Spencer continues very heated about Esme trying to pin her actions on Trina. "And she is not the one that I just caught outside cheeked out in her underwear because she just cheated on me and sexed some random guy in my house!" Spencer yells.

Spencer's anger with Esme had really reached his boiling point. He didn't know if he could be any angrier with Esme than he was at that moment. He had gone to prison partly as a result of her actions, though he knew he was at fault as well and she had constantly brought trouble and misery unto people that he cared about. Including his friends Cam, Joss and especially Trina. She had humiliated Cam and Joss after a personal and intimate event for them and she was threatening Trina's happiness. Esme had caused so much trouble for Trina and Trina's entire future was on the line due to her actions. Spencer knew Esme was guilty of filming and posting the sex tape and he wanted her to face the consequences of her actions and exonerate Trina. But after this latest stunt of hers, he wasn't sure how much longer he could be around her.

"Cheeked out..." Esme responds. She find herself letting out a laugh. "Well I guess that's one way of putting it..."

"I can think of several other terms I can use to describe you perching on the parapet, like you were..." Spencer remarks. "But I'm trying to refrain myself from saying the most hateful ones."

"Oh, because you could never be hateful..." Esme replies sarcastically. She sighs. "Not the guy that stalked his stepmother for months to break up his father's happy marriage..."

"You played a role in that too..." Spencer retorts. "Even more than I did. You did the worst of it." He states. "I never told you to set Ava's car on fire or put Kiki's badge there, which was cruel by the way..." He reminds her. 'But you did that anyway, because you just had to add you extra brand of destruction to things. Like you always do!" He exclaims. "Yet I... am the only one that paid for it." Spencer acknowledges. He leans forward for a moment giving her a look. "Isn't it funny how other people always seem to pay, but you just escape every time..." He notes. "I went to jail but you just escaped punishment..." He shakes his head in disdain.

Esme's eyes widen when he says that, and she quickly tries to move off of that subject. "Well, you decided to take the plea deal, Spence that was your choice." She quickly responds. "And you seem to be getting close to your father again..." She points out. "So maybe things worked out for the best after all..." She remarks. "But none of that has to do with your feelings regarding Trina and how that has been a constant wedge in our relationship." She states. She gives him a look. "You said I was cheeked out..." She laughs again. "Americans and some of the sayings you use..." Her voice trails off for a moment.

"But tell me Spence how many times have you personally thought of Trina like that...?" She asks. "How many times have you envisioned coming home to her, perhaps after work or school like that..." Esme takes a breath and continues. "You come home to her and then talk about your day, connect emotionally and then you strip down and..."

"Stop it!" Spencer interrupts her. "You're not going to conjure up some fantasy you think I have had of Trina to escape your cheating ways. I'm not going to let you do that." Spencer states defiantly. "You're not going to conjure up some if me and her did it hypothetical to absolve yourself..."

"Have you had that fantasy of Trina?" Esme questions. "Have you..?" She asks again. "Has it become close to becoming a reality...?" She inquires.

"No... I told you that." Spencer denies. "We've never done anything not even kiss." He admits. "Trina wouldn't go there, especially not after she found out you were my girlfriend."

"Oh, really Trina wouldn't go there?" Esme asks flashing back to the time she almost caught Spencer and Trina kissing each other at the gallery. Esme had interrupted them, but they hadn't realized she had almost saw them.

"You expect me to believe that?" Esme asks.

"Yes...!" Spencer exclaims. "I've been more honest than you have been in this relationship..." He remarks giving her a knowing look.

"Have you really?" Esme questions. "Because I really don't think you've been completely honest about your feelings for Trina. Or the reason why you keep searching through my things."'

"I told you I wanted to know more about you and your past..." Spencer responds quickly coming up with an explanation. "I mean there is still stuff that I don't know about like your background." He remarks. "And I felt if I got to know you more, I could find out what really makes you tick." He pauses becoming quiet for a moment thinking about the type of story he wanted to sell Esme. "I mean we almost thought we were having a child together..." He points out. "It was a false alarm." He acknowledges. "But what if it wasn't?" He asks. "Doesn't it make sense that I wanted to get to know more about the person that I might be connected to for life...?"

"Hmm, maybe but you still shouldn't have been snooping through my things, Spence..." Esme responds not fully buying his story. "You should have just come to me and asked me what you wanted to know..."

"I didn't think you would be the most forthcoming, you haven't always been in the past when I inquired about your family." He reminds her. "I wasn't sure if you would tell me what I really wanted to know." He states. He frowns. "Especially since there was so much tension between us while we were trying to make our way back to each other." He shakes his head. "And now you've cheated on me with..." He looks at her wanting an answer about who she had slept with.

"Does it matter?" Esme responds not answering his question. "You want nothing to do with me now." She states. "You will probably take this as your out and toss me aside." She speculates.

"I deserve to know the truth, because your sleeping, with another man in my house is the ultimate sign of disrespect..." Spencer counters. "And I hope... you used protection." He finds himself saying. "You've, we've... already had one scare, you don't need another..." He comments shaking his head.

"I was safe." Esme claims.

"Okay but we know that isn't always one hundred percent effective." Spencer points out.

"It will be fine Spence..." Esme remarks narrowing her eyes at him.

"Sure, it will, just fine... you always manage to dodge bullets... no matter how much trouble you stir up..." He gestures towards her. "You really have a knack for that you know..."

Esme rolls her eyes. "Well since you think I'm such a troublemaker why don't you just end things here and now..." Esme dares him. "Go ahead I know you want too." She states. Spencer looks at her and scowls. Before he opens his mouth to say something, he hears his phone buzzing. He reaches down into his pocket to pull it out.

"Hey man, any progress with the plan yet?" Cam's text reads. Spencer looks down at it, a thoughtful expression appearing on his face.

"Who is that?" Esme inquires. "Let me guess Saint Trina." She speculates. "She's checking in with you and is willing and ready to take you into her arms and console you..." She responds angrily.

"It's not Trina." Spencer informs her.

"Well who is it then?" Esme asks.

Spencer looks down at his phone again. "Just Cam texting me some information about a shift I'm supposed to work this week." He lies.

"Oh..." Esme nods. "So it's not Trina then? Hmm... well I guess she will probably be reaching out to you once she hears about me cheating on you..." Esme muses. "I'm sure she will drag my name through the mud just like your other friends will. They've never liked me..." She claims.

Spencer shakes his head. "Trina is not some person who likes to kick people when they are down." He informs Esme. "She's not a vengeful person."

"Right she's perfect to you." Esme remarks.

"I didn't say that."

"You don't have to." Esme responds. "I can hear it in your voice and see it in your eyes when you talk about her." She remarks. "You've always had this look when you bring her up, which is why I was surprised when you quickly took my side in this whole sex tape ordeal."

Thoughts cross Spencer's mind as Esme mentions him taking her side regarding the sex tape. He wondered again how he should go about his plan, now that he discovered she had cheated on him. He really wanted to end things with her once and for all, but he also knew if he did that now, that could be risking Trina's freedom. Spencer felt he still had to stall things with Esme, though he wanted nothing to do with her.

"I took your side because you were my girlfriend and I wanted to stand by your side..." He lies. He frowns. "But now after discovering what you have done..."

"Now what...?" Esme asks a worried look coming into her eyes.

Spencer looks away from her rubbing his face thinking. "I..."

"You...?" Esme probes.

"I can't really look at you right now, I need time and space to breathe." Spencer declares. He takes a breath. "I need to get out of here and go for a ride." He gives her a serious look. "I really need some space right now Esme." He declares.

"Okay and then after you get space...?" Esme asks getting more concerned.

"I don't know, I just don't know." Spencer answers. He sighs and then turns to leave the room.

"Spence!" Esme calls after him as walks away.

"Let me breathe Esme." He requests. "Just let me breathe." He then walks completely out of the room. Esme pokes her head out of the door and watches him as he walks down the hallway. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath once he's out of sight.

"Crap! What do I do now?" She wonders aloud. She then goes back inside the room. She picks up her cell phone to text someone. "We may be in deep trouble." She texts waiting for the other person to respond.

Meanwhile Spencer heads out of Wyndemere. Outside of his home he pulls out his cell phone and texts Cam. "A major development has come up. We need to talk about the plan ASAP." He looks down at his phone to see if Cam texts back. Once he does Spencer texts for them to meet, and Spencer heads off anxious to talk with Cam about what had just happened with Esme and how that could affect his plan going forward.
