Chapter One
"Hope, Faith, stay away from the windows!" Hayley calls out to her daughters.
"ROAR!" The monster's roar was so loud that it shook the house.
Hope and Faith screamed in fright, running to their mother. They were crying, "Mommy, what is that?" Hayley held her twins tightly, "I don't know baby. Come on, we need to hide." Hayley picked up her ten-year-old twins, which would be difficult if she was human, and sped to the basement. There were tunnels underneath the country home through a hidden door in the basement. Hayley set the girls down, pushed an old armoire out of the way, and opened the door, "Now, I want you two to stay together. I want you to head away from the house. No matter if I'm with you or not, you keep going. If I am not behind you, you go to Marcel and tell him to wake your father." Hayley hugs her twin daughters, kissing the top of their heads, "I love you both."
Hayley pushed the girls into the tunnel. Another loud roar of the monster sounds like it was right above them. Each step it takes the ground shakes. The foundation of the house quakes as the monster takes another large step closer. "Go! Go! Go!" Hayley yelled to her girls to run through the tunnels but hesitates before she turns to run herself. Hope and Faith turned and ran down the tunnel with a tight grip on each other's hands.
Hope looks back in time to see the tunnel collapsing, the twins were blinded by a cloud of dust and debris, "Mommy!" The dust cleared enough to see the beginning of the tunnel where their mom was standing has been destroyed. Hope tried to let go of Faith and run back but Faith kept a tight grip. "Come on, Hope. We have to get to Marcel." Tears were streaming from Faith's eyes and her voice cracked. Hope was crying even harder, but they kept moving.
The sun had set hours ago, it was dark and cold. The twins were getting tired of walking, but they were almost there. They looked around at all the damage the city of New Orleans had sustained. Several buildings, businesses, and homes were either destroyed or on fire. There was rubble and debris everywhere. They continued through the city and into the French Quarter. Hope pointed down the street at the gathering crowd when she saw Marcel.
The crowd was standing outside of a partially damaged compound. Marcel was trying to organize his vampires to help with damage control and search for survivors, the thought of the Mikaelson family plaguing his mind. He knew he would be checking on Hayley and the twins soon. He was speaking with his right-hand vamp when he thought he was hearing a small voice call his name.
With freshly renewed tears, the twins run towards Marcel. Again, Faith calls out, "Marcel!" They see him turn around and a few of his vampires, and Davina stand next to him. The twins still had a hold of each other as they ran to him. Marcel knelt down in time for them to collide in a hug. "Mommy's gone," Faith cried into his shoulder. Marcel closed his eyes and sighed while holding his favorite siblings.
The three of them stayed like that for a few moments while the girls calmed down a little. Marcel pulled them away enough to look at them, "What happened?" Hope rubbed her face with her sleeve, hiccupping from crying, "Mom was getting us into the tunnel under the house because we heard a monster roar. She told us to stay together and run. When we looked back the tunnel was crushed." Hope stopped talking because she was crying harder again.
Davina, Marcel's friend, and sort-of adopted daughter came to help Marcel comfort the twins. She pulled Hope into a hug. "Mom said to come to you and have you wake up our dad," Faith says. She is not crying as hard, but the tears have not stopped. Marcel stood up and paced back and forth in front of the compound, mumbling to himself. He did this for about five minutes thinking about the pros and cons of waking the Mikaelsons before stopping in front of the twins. Hope, Faith, and Davina have his complete attention. Marcel rubs his hands down his face, "Let's not wake him or his siblings just yet. I promise we will, but not until the right time. Until then, you two will stay with me and Davina." All the twins could do is nod their heads. They wanted their family but would need to wait. For now, they will be there for each other.
It wasn't until years later that Marcel decided to wake the Mikaelsons.
