With his costume already assembled and having now come up for the name of his persona (which is Walter Grubb, by the way), Chicken Boo was finally ready to start his hunt. He did a diagram showing all his victims and the order in which he will hunt them, deciding to leave Minerva Mink and Slappy and Skippy for last, as he felt that it will be much more fun to end the hunt with a challenge, as he felt that they will be harder to hunt. Now that he had his plan, he could finally start.
The first characters he hunted was The Goodfeathers, which was in fact easy, as Pesto was fighting with Squit as usual, with Bobby being dragged into it, so they didn't realize until the last minute that they had been shot with eternal sleep darts (which effect would last until said darts were taken off).
He then went for the Hip Hippos, whom he considered as one of the many characters who truly didn't deserve to return to the reboot, as he knew very well that they were one of the least popular characters in the original, but they still somehow managed to be accepted; the first thing he did was distract was distract Gina Embryo, the Hippos' obnoxiously overprotective guard, by making it look like a lion escaped from a truck. It surprisingly worked, as Gina immediately came running to see what was going on, leaving Chicken Boo to shoot darts at that annoying hippo couple.
After that, as he was carrying the Hippos in bag, he came across Rita and Runt, who were crossing the street; he could see that they were still friends ("That stupid dog probably is still oblivious that she is a cat" thought Chicken Boo), and he saw it as a opportunity to take four trophies in a row, so he quietly followed them, and as the cat was going to start to sing (yeah, she was), Chicken Boo shot her, and was also able to shoot Runt, as he was distracted by the sudden sound of the flying dart. After that, Chicken Boo took both animals and put them in a separate bag that he casually brought, as he didn't want to put them along with the hippos.
To not make you wait long enough for the most interesting hunts, I'll say the rest of the hunts as simple as possible:
Mindy and Buttons: though he did felt kind of bad for doing this to a small girl, Chicken Boo managed to get them both in one of their chases, and saw this as mostly a good thing, as Buttons could finally end his suffering of always being scolded by his young owner's negligent parents.
Charlton Woodchucks: Chicken Boo decided to hunt him, thinking he had a considerably huge fanbase, so he set him a trap, which was successful and eventually skinned him, as he didn't want to waste his fur.
The Flame: it isn't necessary to get into detail about this one, as the flame was "asleep" (meaning, he wasn't lighted), so he was completely unaware when Dr. Grubb put him in a jar.
Miles Standish: yeah, the character who everybody is still wondering about and why he was hunted if he was a one-off character, but apparently, Chicken Boo thought that since that YouTube video about the Animaniacs Innuendos that had many views had him on the thumbnail, that meant he was a popular character; this time, he had to attract Miles, so this time, Chicken Boo returned to his obvious but convincing costumes by dressing as a turkey, which effectively attracted the attention of the pilgrim, whom followed him without seeing the net that caught him. After that, Chicken Boo injected him with the sleeping dart.
After finally getting rid of the easiest characters, Chicken Boo was finally able to finally start hunting whom she considered the most dangerous, and with that, hardest toons from the original Animaniacs to hunt, "Minerva Mink" and "Slappy Squirrel and her nephew Skippy".
Chicken Boo actually wasn't really on board with hunting Minerva Mink, not because she was considered attractive, but rather because he was entirely convinced that she might NOT return. The explanation for this was that Chicken Boo remembered when the creators tried to introduce Minerva Mink to the audience in the nineties, and the response wasn't very pretty to say the least.
If you're a huge Animaniacs fan, you probably already know what I'm talking about, but in case you don't know, I'll tell it short: Minerva had to be fired after two shorts, and not because the writers hated her, but because those shorts were met with controversy among parents, guardians and even the Fox executives, who found her sexually appealing… way to sexually appealing for a children's cartoons.
Chicken Boo remembered that day clearly; Minerva walked away from the set looking rather sad but not disappointed; later, Ruegger informed the cast about the decision, with him also saying that Minerva was a bit sad with the decision, but completely understood why they had to do it.
Even though Chicken Boo was entirely convinced that she probably wouldn't appear, he still decided to hunt her, not only because she had a considerably big fanbase, but also because he remembered that she was among the characters that appeared in the tapes that Nora and Sam had shown him a few months ago. He knew that no matter how he felt, he needed to hunt the mink, as she wasn't all that friendly to begin with in his opinion, so he felt that she had to stop her before she damaged more people's feelings.
So, one beautiful morning, Dr. Walter Grubb went to the forest where Minerva lived; he had to be really careful, as he knew Minerva might probably use her charms in order to avoid being hunted by him, and worst, she might actually try to defeat him with his own weapons. He went over to every spot in the woods in order to find her, but he initially couldn't find her, and none of the animals wanted to tell him her location (nor did they actually said it, as they ran away as soon as they saw him for… pretty obvious reasons). As soon as he was going to give up, he suddenly heard a pretty beautiful singing voice coming from nearby. It had to be Minerva! He followed the voice really quickly, hid under some bushes and immediately saw her; Minerva Mink was in the lake, bathing, so Chicken Boo had to hide very well, especially because he didn't feel it was correct to watch a person bathing, especially if it was a woman; he waited for some time, and when he heard what seemed to be Minerva having finished bathing, he smiled. He immediately got out of those bushes and followed the humming of the mink, who he was sure was finished drying herself off and was already dressed. After a while, he arrived at the spot where she was supposed to be, but surprisingly, he didn't saw anybody there, but still could hear the humming near him. Suddenly, he heard the sound of sparks coming from his pants. He searched to see what it was, and much to his horror, it was a bomb. He attempted to throw it away, but at that precise moment, it exploded. At that moment, he just realized Minerva already saw him.
He later tried to capture her while she was writing in her diary. He eventually tip-toed towards her, but he accidentally stepped on a branch (the classic trope), and she immediately turned to see him. Chicken Boo was at first thinking that she might be angry, but much to his surprised, she smiled at him.
"Hmm…, so you are still determined to catch you, aren't you?" replied Minerva, "Well, maybe we could at least try to talk before taking me away."
Chicken Boo, despite not being attracted to her, did agree with her. He could attempt to at least earn her trust and with that, when she least expected it, he would put her a sleep dart and his job would be finished. After replying yes to her request, they had a chat… a very long chat. They talked about a variety of subjects, like clothing, their lives, their interests, and eventually, a subject Minerva always liked to talk about, and that subject was about finding her significant other one day. Chicken Boo, still under his Walter Grubb persona, expressed a similar sentiment, making up that one day he felt that something was missing from his life, and he eventually realized that he wanted to find a wife. With that, it seemed that they both finally realized that they might be for one another.
"Then that old saying was true…" stated Minerva, "you should never judge a book by its cover." With that, they were finally going to kiss, until Minerva felt a bit sleepy, and with that, she fell asleep. Walter Grubb smiled in delight, as he got to catch that mink, by finding her weak spot; best of all, it was easier than he expected it to be.
With that, he crossed Minerva. The last character he had to hunt was Slappy Squirrel, the horrible old squirrel that started the whole thing. As for her nephew, Skippy, he planned to spare him, as he believed that his aunt was a bad influence on him and the poor little squirrel didn't know it, and instead put him into a foster child system, in hopes that he could finally find a better family.
At last, the great day for the finale of the hunt came, and Chicken Boo was more than excited. With all the necessary equipment, as he knew that Slappy wouldn't be an easy prey to catch. Knowing of all the times her foes failed to catch her with the conventional and cliched traps, Chicken Boo ordered from a high-tech corporation (since he didn't trust ACME for obvious reasons) some brand new state-of-the-art traps that were guaranteed not to fail and to catch even the most difficult prey; he decided to at least try it out to see if it was telling the truth, and was even more convinced to try them upon seeing that most of the reviews for the company's products were mostly positive.
He came to the Burbank Park where he knew Slappy's treehouse was located. Since many years have passed since they last saw each other in person, Chicken Boo wasn't surprised to see that the park has changed a lot, with one of the most notable changes being bigger and better playground equipment, a small water park and a huge stage where concerts could be held, with a picnic and barbecue space included. He finally arrived at the old squirrel's home, which… hasn't changed a big deal (at least from what he could judge from the exterior of it). He checked his watch and could see that it wouldn't be long before Slappy came outside to sweep her porch. So, he quickly set up the first trap, which was a huge cage that once it detected the prey to be hunted, it will fall over it and shut itself with a metal shell that could only be unlocked by its user. He immediately went to hide as soon as he finished a waited for the squirrel. After waiting for what seemed to be a real long time, he finally heard a large crash and clang. That was for him the sound of a sweet victory! After going to unlock to cage to shoot Slappy with a dart, he was instead greeted with a large lion that proceeded to attack him. Trap one had certainly failed.
He later tried again when Slappy went to go shopping with Skippy, now with a modern twist, as it only activated when it identified the victim's paw, to which it will trap it in a resistant steel chain net. Once again, he waited, and when it seemed to succeed, he tried to shoot Slappy, but much to his shock, it wasn't either Slappy or Skippy who had been trapped, but a swarm of wasps! Trap 2 also failed.
Much much much later, he tried just one more trap, clearly having forgotten that even if the traps worked properly, Slappy would find a way for it to fail and for it to instead turn against its user. This trap was supposedly the one that was more effective, as it was a sprinkler that will shoot a ton of sleep darts, effectively hunting the prey quite easily. After a while, Walter heard Slappy come outside with Slappy, which effectively triggered the sprinkler. He could hear Slappy trying to protect Slappy from them. After a while of them dodging them, it seemed that it finally got to shoot someone, as it stopped. Walter Grubb was going to stand up to celebrate, but before he could do it, he turned and was horrified to see what actually happened.
The sprinkler did work properly, but the dart didn't shoot Slappy, it shot Skippy; he could see Slappy weeping, clearly grieving for her nephew's death, as she surprisingly didn't see to know how the darts worked or couldn't see where it hit his nephew (as they were relatively small and could hide in some part of his fur). Walter Grubb, even though he was horrified that it hit the small child, decided that it was the perfect chance to shoot Slappy. He pointed at Slappy, pulled the trigger, the dart came out flying… and Slappy tried to avoid it, but it spectacularly failed, with her collapsing instantly.
Walter Grubb could finally celebrate, as the culprit of what caused him not to return to the reboot finally went into a deep sleep. Trap 3 did work!
He wanted to take the dart out of Skippy, but he eventually decided to leave it like that, so he could not only have the duo, but also to not separate the kid from his guardian.
