Room 29

The Pogues had already docked and were walking down the deck towards the reporting station tent where a bunch of people were shouting over each other, trying to get there problems taken care of. Kie and Pope remained outside the tent while John B and JJ pushed there way through the crowd to the counters, getting separated to different spots.

John B got there first and tried to get the worker's attention. "Excuse me. Hey man we— we found a boat." The man didn't even look his way.

JJ arrived next. "I-" already interrupted and drowned out by another screaming lady.

"You're gonna wanna hear this," John B tries again.

The man does turn this time only to yell, "Hey! Calm down." John B is annoyed. He is calm and the man is already turned back to a lady going on about a dog. John B looks over at JJ who is distracted with clicking a pen, and makes his way towards her, deciding it's time to give up. He grabs the pen from her and throws it on the counter irritated, before making his way out the tent. She follows behind him, thinking he was being a tad dramatic, but she was annoyed too so she doesn't blame him.

"Well that went well," John B said once they rejoined Kie and Pope outside the tent.

"So what's the plan?" JJ asked, knowing John B isn't one to give up. She hooked her arm with John B's letting him know she's down for whatever he's planning.

"I know how we're going to find the guy who owns that boat," John B said holding up the motel key as JJ predicted.

"We don't know whose boat that is. It could be anyone." Pope chimes in, not liking the idea.

"I'm in," JJ chirps heading, already walking towards the boat as if it wasn't already obvious she was down.

"Come on, I'll be lookout," Kie says rebelliously following JJ , but not wanting to be too rebellious as to do the actual breaking in.

John B pat Pope on the chest as he walked by, "Finders fee. Just saying." He turned around again with his arms spread wide after a few steps "And hey at least you'll only be and accomplice!"

Pope groaned already giving in as they knew he would. "Man."

"Come on bubba," John B smirked and they all loaded into the HMS Pogue, making there way towards the motel insinuated by the key.

The trip was mostly quiet as they all daydreamed about what they would find in the motel. Finally the motel came into view, and it was old and beaten down. Not at all where you would expect someone with a Grady White to stay.

JJ whistled. "I thought the chateau looked bad." Not really, she loved the chateau but she knew it wasn't exactly up to normal people's standards.

"This is a shitshow," John B agreed.

"Motel or meth lab?" Kie chimed in.

"You be the judge," Pope answered her.

"Doesn't look like the type of place someone with a Grady White would stay," John B said, reading JJ's mind.

"No looks like somewhere someone with a Grady white would get killed," Pope shot back.

"Here we go" JJ says as they came close to the beach. She pulls out her invisible radio and fakes static noise, "This is your captain speaking. HMS Pogue comin in for landing." She cheers as she hops out of the boat onto the grassy inlet.

They tie off the boat and John B looks at JJ.

"We good?" he searched her eyes to double check she's really up for it. Like she wouldn't be!

"Yeah we're good," she said anyway.

"All right, here goes nothin'" he said as he moved to join her off the boat.

Before he could, Pope stopped him. "Hey."

John B turned towards him, impatient, "yeah?"

"Don't let her do anything stupid," he said, nodding his head towards her. John B looked at her and she smirked.

"Oh we will," she said back cockily.

John B smiled fondly and sighed, looking back towards Pope, "I'm not making promises."

"Yeah I know," Pope sighs, exasperated.

And then, Kie is being weird as she hands the motel key to John B and JJ doesn't like it.

"Uh be careful… I mean it" Kie says to John B and JJ doesn't like that look in her eyes, but she bites back her tongue from saying anything she would regret. What can she say anyway? John B doesn't belong to her.

John B just chuckles nervously like he can read JJ's thoughts. "Yeah" Then he climbs off the boat, nudges JJ with his foot "Let's go." And him and JJ make there way towards the motel. They didn't see the fist bump Kie gave Pope or hear when she asked him if he saw JJ's face.

JJ was lost in thought as she followed John B.

"Why are these mattresses out here?" She heard John B asked and she looked up.

"After a Hurricane, they ditch 'em cuz they're moldy," she answered. She once worked at a motel before she got fired for not showing up a few too many times at the fault of one Luke Maybank.

They climbed the stairs to the second story when JJ couldn't hold it in anymore.

"Just be so careful John B," she said, strolling up to him and grabbing his face with one of her hands, trying to sound teasing when really she was trying to see how he would react. Is there something going on with Kie, she wanted to ask, but she didn't want to sound jealous.

He brushed her off, "God, you're so wierd."

"What was that about?" She pushed.

"I don't know. Maybe she wants us to be careful." He shrugged, hoping she'd drop it.

"Since she heard you're being threatened with exile, she's just been like-" she grabs John B's shoulders in a massage and puts on her best seductive voice "Oh be so careful John B!" And she knows she sounds jealous, but she's not done.

"Get off," John B says, annoyed.

"Just give me that John D already!" She continues even after he shrugged her off. They're almost to the door now. "When are you going to swoop on that man?"

"JJ you know the rule, no Pogue on Pogue macking." John B says though, something flashes in his eyes that JJ can't place and that makes her even more jealous. Maybe he does like Kie? "Besides, Why do you care anyway? You're always flirting with Pope." At that, JJ stills, stunned.

She laughs. Hard. And John B looks at her with a weird look on his face like he actually believed she liked Pope that way.

"Pope is like my brother dude. You don't Mack on your brother," she explained when he didn't seem to understand why she was so hysterical. He must have accepted that answer because he turned to continue on to the motel room.

"You need help, not just a little bit of help but a lot of help," was his witty response. JJ decided to drop the subject.. for now.

"Is that us? 29." John B stopping in front of a door and answering his own question. "This is it."

"Okay." JJ knocked and raised her voice to an unnecessary, obnoxiously high voice and sang, "Housekeeping!"

When no one responded, John B asked, "Should we try it?"

"Yeah," JJ voiced her agreement, "No power, no security cameras. No one's gonna know."

With that, John B turns the key in the lock and opens the door.

As they entered the room, it was empty. A black backpack sat on the bed in the empty room.

"Huh," John B hummed, expecting more, then added "Check the bag. See if there's a name on there somewhere." The door shut behind them. John B went to check the bag as JJ walked around the rest of the room. "A jacket" she noted aloud.

"Denim slides," John B noted back.

"No name on the jacket," JJ said after studying it. "It's a nice jacket though."

"Definitely over 50. He's got New Balances" John B announces.

JJ walks over to the nightstand where she spots a map and a yellow sticky note.

"Yo JB, come here. Maybe this is where they were fishing," she deducts, looking at a spot on the map that was circled.

John B steps up beside her to take a look. "No, that's off the continental shelf. That's big swell. Nobody fishes there."

"Okay."

John B finds a smaller white note underneath the map with some numbers on it JJ can't read. She tried to learn before, but she's too stupid like her dad said. It's just that the words and numbers always move and she can't quite catch them long enough to get any meaning from them. She's never told anyone that, though she suspects that John B knows she can't read. He tries to bring it up once, but she got defensive and denied it so he he dropped it. John B placed the note back down so it must not have been important.

JJ heads to the bathroom to see if there was anything of value, while John B spotted the safe and decided to try his luck. JJ listed aloud random objects on her way.

"Ooh!"

"Find anything?"John B asked.

"Really awesome Dopp kit you won't let me steal," she said humorously. Then sees some deodorant and remembers she's out.

"Yeah cause we're not stealing shit," John B replied. She sticks the deodorant in her pocket.

Definitely stealing this, she thinks to herself.

John B punches in random numbers willing the safe to open.

Meanwhile, Pope and Kie sat in the boat talking about Kie's biggest pet peeve being people not taking care of the environment, when the a police truck came around the corner into the motel parking lot. Two cops exited, a male and female, and started walking towards the motel.

"Hey hey cops" Pope spotted them first.

"Shit," Kie muttered.

"Call them," Pope told her.

"I can't. The tower's down," Kie stressed.

"If I lose my merit scholarship, I'm gonna kill someone," Pope muttered but followed Kie none the less, following the cops to see shay they were doing.

He'd follow her anywhere, he tells himself.

"Maybe they're not going up there," Pope says hopefully. "Maybe they're just looking for a room."

"He's pointing!" Kie deadpans, and sure enough Pope sees the hotel manager pointing out the room John B and JJ went into to the cops. Of course they aren't that lucky. "They're going up there."

They rake their brains, trying to think of a way to warn their friends before the cops reach the room.

Inside the motel room, John B is still attempting to break into the safe.

"Punching shit at random. That will.. definitely work," JJ rolls her eyes, disbelievingly.

John B's eyes seem to light up then. " Wait a second," and he rushes back to the nightstand where he picks up the note JJ couldn't read. Some sort of realization crosses his face and he took the note back to the safe.

JJ, not paying attention to John B, is studying the map again trying to think of anything that could pertain to the red circle. "Wait. My cousin said you can catch swordfish here" she knew it was a stretch, but hey they were grasping at straws.

John B starts punching in the numbers from the note while JJ continues rambling, "Nah that wouldn't make sense. What about a surf spot?"

The lock on the safe clicked. Score.

"That could possibly be it," JJ is still rambling. Not noticing that John B has been successful and opened the safe.

"Holy shit," John B gasps when he sees what's inside.

"Is this a surf spot?" JJ asks still unaware of the safe having been opened. Oblivious should be her middle name. John B pulls out a stack of hundred dollar bills. And there is more.

"Have you heard of shoals?" JJ asks, STILL not paying attention.

"Uh… JJ?" John B decides to intervene and get her attention.

"Hm?" She says, distracted, but looks back at John B.

"You're gonna want to see this." He says, excited holding out the stack of money where she can see. She finally realizes he's cracked the safe and excitedly walks over to view what else is in there.

Outside, Pope and Kie hurry as fast as they can without being spotted to the side of the motel where the window is to room 29. They finally had a plan.

"Stand back," Pope says to Kie, happy to have a moment to maybe impress her.

"Kay you got it," she stands back.

Pope picks up a rock and throws it up but to his horror it didn't even come close to hitting the window. I'm fact it's was a humiliating throw. Pope's cheeks reddened a bit.

"Didn't you ever play baseball?" Kie asked, disbelieving at his failed attempt. She then bent down to find another rock. "Dude!"

"I was on the math team," Pope defended himself.

Inside, JJ looked in the safe and her eyes are immediately drawn to the gun that lay next to the stacks of cash.

"Dude Dude Dude!" She says, excited. This is what she needs. Now she can protect herself and John B. She can escape her dad.

"You grabbed the gun!" John be said anxiously. All the money and she grabs the gun!

"This is a SIG Sauer," JJ exclaims. She knows her stuff, what can she say.

John B moves to grab it from her but she dodges him. "Put the gun back JJ!"

"This is a fucking spendy gatt, man! Just Bam Bam!" She says wildly pointing the gun around the room pretending to shoot.

"Hey think about it, we're not stealing anything." He tries to convince her, hoping he won't need to wrestle it away from her.

The cops are almost to the room now. Kie throws the rock and it hits the mark!

Unfortunately John B is preoccupied trying to convince JJ to put the gun back. JJ pulls out her phone and hands it to John B.

"Just take a picture of me. Right here." And she poses.

"You want me to take a picture of you?" John B deadpans.

"Yeah!" And she poses with the gun pointed up in front of her.

"Make our own incriminating evidence? Is that what you're talking about?" And he kind of has a point, JJ has to admit.

Kie threw another rock and this time John B and JJ heard it. "Wait what is that?" JJ asks as John B peers through the blinds out the window.

He sees Kie and Pope hopping down below, mouthing the word 'cops!' John B jumps to the other side of the room and looks out. The cops were already outside the door. "Cops," he whispered to JJ, wide-eyed.

JJ shoves a stack of money in her pocket and the gun in her pants, while John B tears the window open. JJ and John B both step out onto the ledge either side of the window out of view from the inside.

"Kildare County Sheriff Department!" The male cop announced after knocking at the door.

Pope and Kie raced back to the boat and tries to look nonchalant.

"Should we peel?" Kie asked, breathless from running.

"We never leave a Pogue behind," Pope replied, watching the motel, noticing John B and JJ standing on the ledge outside the window, breaths held.

The cops entered the room.
