Lisanna's POV
I pulled into the parking lot of the local precinct, parking my car as I sat there for a minute. I was here to speak with Captain Laxus about the possibility of an immunity deal, that if I turned over Natsu's companions and revealed Natsu's whereabouts, that he would pardon my own crimes. In order to be not be detained as soon as I walked through the door, I had thrown together a bit of a disguise. Dawning a long black trench coat and a brunette wig, black shades on my face.
"Now or never," I breathed to myself. Getting out of the car, I walked inside the station, heading towards the front desk.
"How can I help you ma'am?" The office at the desk asked as I approached.
"I'm here to speak with Captain Laxus; I have information about Natsu Dragneel," I said, crossing my arms. The officer's eyes immediately widened.
"I'll get the captain right away, ma'am," The office scurried off as I waited at the desk, drumming my fingers on the pinewood surface. I had warned Lucy that I was going to get my revenge, even without her help. If she had fallen for Natsu's spell, then it was up to me to finish the job. A long and cozy life sentence was a much more satisfying slow burn than simple bullet to the head.
"You wished to speak to me, Miss?" I turned to see Laxus approach. I smiled as he walked closer.
"Yes sir, I have information about Natsu Dragneel and his compatriots," I replied. Laxus smiled slightly as I spoke.
"Very well, Miss, follow me," Laxus gestured for me to follow him and with that, we walked off to his office.
Natsu's POV
My eyes flickered open as the faint light of sunrise shimmered through the curtains. I was then suddenly confused; this wasn't room. I turned beside me and saw Lucy, her head nuzzled into my bare chest. Wait… I slept in Lucy's room… with Lucy… WHAT?! Did we have sex? Did she ask me to sleep here with her? I lifted the covers, sighing in relief as I still had pants on and she was in a set of PJs. Not that I would mind if Lucy and I slept together, I mean, that would be a score as she had a very rockin body. I deadpanned as the thought crossed my mind. What the fuck are you thinking, Natsu? It was then that I remembered the events of last night. I had heard Lucy scream out after a nightmare and I had rushed to comfort her. She asked me to stay with her and I must've fallen asleep. I looked down at Lucy's sleeping face, my heart beating slightly faster. The sun was glistening off her cheeks, her skin shining, making her look even more radiant than she already did.
"She's so fucking beautiful," I whispered to myself, not even trying to deny the thought this time. I had come to terms with my growing feelings for the blonde and even if I didn't like her, I'd have to be blind not appreciate the luminous goddess next to me. Getting out of bed slowly as not to disturb Lucy, I snuck out of the room, closing the door quietly as I darted out to the living room. Plopping myself on the couch, I ran my fingers through my messy hair, sighing loudly.
"I need to grow some damn balls and just tell her how I feel," I said to myself, leaning back against the cushions. I needed to talk to someone about this, as love wasn't my area of expertise. I had slept with plenty of women in my time, but I had only ever loved Lisanna and we all know how that turned out. Whipping out my phone, I quickly dialed Gray's number.
"Yo, what's up, boss?" Gray asked as he answered the phone.
"Just need a chat, bro. I think I've fallen for Lucy," I heard Gray choke slightly on whatever he was eating.
"You what?! Tell me everything, man!" Gray replied. I sat silent for a moment. I was about to admit my feelings for Lucy out loud. Even if I wasn't admitting them to her personally, it still filled me with an anxious feeling.
"Natsu? You there, bro?" Gray's voice came out of the phone a few minutes later.
"Yeah, sorry. I don't know man, I just feel… something when I'm around her. The way she walks, talks and bro, she's so fucking kind. She's been letting me crash here, she cooks for me, she bought me a really cool present from the market and she even quit her job man, her fucking job just to help me reform myself. Like bro, I'm so fucking whipped," I explained, images of Lucy running through my head as I poured my heart out to Gray.
"Sounds like it. So what's stopping ya' from tellin' her how you feel?" Gray questioned.
"I just don't know how to tell her, man. You know me, I've only ever loved Lisanna so it's not like I have much experience on confessing. Not to mention that we've only known each other a few months, so what if it's too soon? What if she doesn't like me back? I'm a criminal, a murderer, a lowlife piece of shit; she could do so much better than me," I said, feeling the truth in my words. What if it was too soon? What if she didn't like me back? Would I just confess to her and she'd friendzone me and laugh at my confession? Not to mention that I am a criminal. I've done so many horrible things and Lucy deserves an honest, good man who will bring her love and light. All I can bring her is pain and darkness.
"Well from what you've told me, it sounds like she likes you too, man. Not many women would let a guy they didn't like stay at their home for weeks, cook for them, buy them nice presents or quit their job to help them. You'll never know if you don't take a chance, bro. Tell her how you feel over a nice, romantic dinner or something. Women loves romantic gestures," Gray said. A romantic dinner, huh? I suppose I could take Lucy somewhere nice tonight.
"For what it is worth, I do think it's great you found someone, man. Even though we aren't in business anymore, you'll always be one of my brothers," Gray's voice came through the phone again.
"I appreciate it man and same to you," I replied.
"Well I've got run, let me know how it goes," Gray said.
"Will do. Talk to ya later bro," I replied as I hung up the phone. Tossing it to the side, I leaned forward, resting my forehead against my hands. A nice, romantic dinner, eh? Where would I even take Lucy? It had to be special of course, as Lucy was well… everything. I would also have to spring for some flowers, if only I knew what Lucy's favorite flowers were.
"Gah! Why is this so complicated?" I groaned as I flopped back towards the cushions.
"What's so complicated?" I turned as I saw Lucy emerge from the hallway. I felt my heart nearly burst as I saw Lucy standing there in her cute pajamas, smiling softly at me. What did I do to deserve someone this fucking beautiful?
"Oh um…" I coughed, "just some uh… stuff I was talking about with Gray, that's all,"
"Oh okay," Lucy said as she walked over and sat next to me. I couldn't lie that I was fighting every urge to lean over and kiss her repetitively.
"Thanks for staying with me last night," Lucy said, smiling softly at me.
"Of course, I mean after all you've done for me, it's the least I could do," I returned her smile with a large grin of my own.
"Although, I could've done without your loud snoring," She chuckled, waving her hand around.
"I don't snore! Must've been your imagination," I crossed my arms as I spoke.
"Are you serious? You snore like a wild animal, albeit as cute as it may be," Lucy said, her eyes widening as she realized what she had said. Hearing that, I inched closer to her, grinning slyly.
"So you think I'm cute, huh?" I raised her face to look at mine, our eyes connecting. I could sit here and stare at those beautiful orbs forever.
"W-what?! I said your snoring was cute!" Lucy protested, but the hesitation in her reply told me that she was lying.
"Sure you did," I replied, moving my face closer to hers. I chuckled internally as I saw her cheeks turn pink as my mouth got closer to hers. Fuck bro, this woman had such a spell on me and it seemed that I had one on her.
"For what it's worth, I think you're cute too," I said. Before Lucy could reply, I pressed my lips against hers. The spark that flew through me was unlink any other I had felt. Something between Lucy and I had definitely changed. I kissed her furiously, as if my lips had longed for the comfort of hers. My heart sped up rapidly as she began to kiss back, and I instantly melted. Pulling her closer, I deepened the kiss, to not protest of Lucy. My tongue explored hers, and I was in absolute bliss. I was kissing a literal angel. This moment could not be matched.
"EEP!" Lucy and I instantly broke apart and I turned to see a short, blue haired girl standing in the doorway.
"Shit, I forgot I invited Levy over so we could go shopping," Lucy whispered to me.
"No worries, we can continue that conversation later," I replied, cupping her hand in my cheek. She rested her head in it a moment before sitting up and walking over to Levy.
"Just let me get changed and I'll be ready," I heard Lucy speak to Levy. I turned to see Lucy bound off to her room.
"So you and Lucy, huh?" Levy walked over to me, grinning happily.
"I suppose, yeah," I replied, relaxing on the couch again.
"Well you guys are definitely cute! Just be sure to treat her right or else I'll-," Levy began to speak but she was cut off as Lucy appeared in room again. My eyes instantly darted to the blonde and I felt my breath hitch in my throat. She stood there, dawning a simple white tank top and short jean shorts, and the sun was hitting her face at just a point that she radiated. How in the hell was she so fucking gorgeous? What merciful power blessed me with this golden goddess?
"You look beautiful," The words came out of my mouth before I could stop them. Lucy instantly brushed, turning her head to the side.
"T-thanks!" I heard her mutter out. She was so cute when she was shy.
"Bye Natsu!" Lucy grabbed Levy and dashed out the door. I chuckled to myself about how one simple compliment from me had gotten her so flustered.
Lucy's POV
"You look beautiful," Natsu had said. My heart had instantly dropped. I was wearing simple street clothes, had applied very little makeup and yet Natsu thought I was beautiful. And that kiss; my heart was about to simply give out. Natsu had kissed me and for the first time, I had felt the undeniable draw between us. If only Levy hadn't shown up and interrupted us….
"Lucy? You alright?" I was shaken from my internal monologue by Levy in the driver's seat next to me.
"Yeah sorry, was just lost in thought," I replied.
"About Natsu? Why didn't you tell me?! You guys were sooooooo cute! And I can see what you mean when you say he is a looker!" Levy exclaimed happily.
"There's nothing to tell, Levy. I don't know what we are. We say we are friends but then we have these… moments that just make me think that we are more. But Natsu hasn't made a life and neither have I," I explained.
"No moves? So how did the kissing start?" Levy looked at me quickly with a sly expression.
"Well he kissed me first but-" I began to explain but Levy cut me off.
"Well there's the move for you! He clearly likes you and you clearly like him, so what's stopping you?" Levy questioned me as we continued to drive. She was absolutely right. What was stopping me? Natsu and I had grown significantly closer in the few weeks since he had moved in, and the draw between us was undeniable; the spark that shot through me when he had kissed me earlier, it was unavoidable. The true question was, did he feel the same spark? Even if Natsu thought he liked me, did he feel as much attraction to me as I did him? Did Natsu even deserve me? I know that he is a criminal and on the lower end of the moral high ground, but I had made many mistakes in my life as well. I hadn't forgotten about the night that Natsu had poured his heart out to me, telling me about his past with Lisanna. He has loved Lisanna dearly and made a few mistakes, but he was pressured into it. Natsu never wanted to be a criminal, and I knew with absolute certainty that he had a good heart. Did he really deserve some job losing, college reject like myself? The girl who has lost her mother and wasn't good enough for her father?
"You alright, Lucy?" I was shot back to reality by Levy's voice.
"Yeah, why do you ask?" I shuffled out.
"Not much, aside from the tears streaming down your cheeks," My eyes widened as the bluenette spoke. I had been so deep in thought that I didn't even realize I had begun crying.
"I was just thinking about what you said, and I think you're right. I like Natsu and I can't keep denying it at this point," I said, leaning back in the seat.
"Then you need to tell him before it's too late!" Levy exclaimed, making me jump slightly.
"Wait, wait, wait…. What happened to you and Erza telling me that pursuing Natsu would only end in heartbreak?" I questioned, my mind fleeting back to the conversation the three of us had at Levy's house.
"That was before I saw the connection between you two! Natsu doesn't seem like a bad guy either, so I say go for it while you still have the opportunity to do so," Levy said, putting her hand on mine. I clutched her hand in mine, smiling at her softly as I thought about everything that had happened between Natsu and I. What really did happen? The last few months felt like such a blur. What had started as a simple infiltration mission had become a complicated, unorthodox mess. Could I really have a future with Natsu? What would that future even look like? Natsu and I always being on the run from something because of his criminal history? Me visiting Natsu in a prison somewhere because he had turned himself in? Why did that idiot have to be such a sweet, kind and attractive man? I sighed loudly as I got out of the car, walking beside Levy as we entered the mall.
"I think I'm going to tell Natsu how I feel," I finally spoke as we entered the main complex of the mall.
"I hope everything works out!" Levy exclaimed before she took my hand and led me into one of our favorite stores.
Natsu's POV
I mostly just wasted the day away by playing video games, watching TV and eating whatever I could find in Lucy's fridge. The apartment felt strangely empty without her, and it wasn't a feeling that I liked. I was surprised as I heard a knock on the door. Perhaps Lucy had forgotten her key? Bounding over the door, I opened it, expecting to see my blonde queen, but I was shocked to see who it was.
"Hello, Natsu," Lisanna said, brushing past me as she came inside.
"What are you doing here?" I asked as she walked inside. I sat down at the dining table opposite of her.
"I'm here to finally tell you the secret that your precious Lucy has been hiding from you," Lisanna said, smirking slightly. What was she talking about? My Lucy wouldn't keep secrets from me.
"What do you mean? Lucy wouldn't-" I began to respond.
"Keep secrets from you?" Lisanna finished my sentence for me. I was so confused at this point that I decided to remain silent.
"That girl certainly warped you, huh? Played her part so well that you actually began to fall for her?" Lisanna chuckled slightly, crossing her arms.
"What do you mean? Enough with this games, Lisanna," I slammed my fist on the table, glaring at the silver-haired girl.
"Your dear Lucy has been working with me since the beginning to put you behind bars. She doesn't care about you, she only wants to see you rot," Lisanna began to speak.
"That's not true! She loves me and I love her!" I shouted before realizing what I had said. Lisanna noticed as well, her eyes widening slightly before she continued.
"Where do you think she got the money for the shipments? She sold them to me, dear. Lucy and I go way back and with our common history, wouldn't she be doing such a wonderful police duty by using me as an asset?" Lisanna rose from the table, smiling slightly. I remained silent, unsure what to say at moment. While I trusted Lucy with all my heart, there were some truths within Lisanna's words. How did a cop manage to sell illegal drugs and turn a profit? How did Lucy seem to pull more cash than most of my experience sellers?
"Still don't believe me? Go ahead and call Gajeel, he should tell you what's been going on," Lisanna declared confidently. I knew Lisanna better than most, and she wasn't bluffing. Whatever she thought she knew, she seemed confident in her knowledge. Should I call Gajeel and find out the truth?
"Fine," I replied, taking out my phone. Lisanna grinned as I dialed Gajeel's number and I waited for him to answer.
"Boss?! I was just about to call you! Most of our associates have been arrested and I've heard that the police know your location!" Gajeel shouted as he answered the phone.
"Slow down, Gajeel. How did they find out? Have our informants within the force said anything?" I questioned, eyeing Lisanna darkly as she watched me, an amused look on her face. My heart could never have been prepared for what came next.
"Well sir, it seems that Lisanna went to the captain with an immunity deal, and that Lucy orchestrated the whole thing. There are even text trails and specific details that Lisanna couldn't possibly know that back up her story," The phone fell from my hands as I heard Gajeel finish. Lucy had betrayed me? My Lucy? She had just been using me this entire time?
"I hate to say I told you so," Lisanna said as she headed for the door. I ignored her as I sat thereC shellshocked. What was even going on? Lucy had sold me out to Lisanna and the police? Even after her promise to help me out? Even after quitting her job? Assuming she had even quit her job, it could've been a front to protect her secret caper.
"Why did I ever fall for that woman?!" I shouted, slamming my hands against the table, tears streaming down my face. I should've known better, that someone else I cared about would stab me in the back. Lucy was no different; this was all an act for her little police show. I couldn't stop the tears that were flowing down my face now. I fucking loved Lucy, more than I even knew, and I was sitting here now, realizing she had betrayed me. That nothing between us was ever real.
"Why does this shit always happen to me?!" I shouted loudly, my forehead slamming against the table.
I sat on the couch for what seemed like hours until I heard the front door unlock. I knew that it was Lucy returning from her shopping trip.
"Hey Natsu! I bought tons of cool things, do you want to see?" Lucy asked as she bounded over next to me. I didn't respond, as my mind was racing with a million thoughts.
"Natsu?" Lucy put her hand on my shoulder. Without a second of hesitation, I moved my shoulder, throwing her hand off.
"Natsu, what's wrong?" Lucy asked, her voice filled with concern. No doubt fake concern, as was her way.
"You betrayed me,,." I finally choked out after what seemed like hours.
"What do you mean? I haven't done anything," Lucy replied, her tone finally serious. I felt the rage within me begin to rise and I couldn't contain it anymore.
"DON'T LIE TO ME! LISANNA CAME BY AND TOLD ME EVERYTHING YOU'VE BEEN DOING!" I whirled on Lucy, my voice cracking as I shouted at her. While a small part of me felt bad for startling her, I ignored it as I was locked into a frenzy.
"She told me all about your plan to turn me in, and before you deny it, I spoke to Gajeel and he confirmed that you were to main conspirator in the plan," I said, moving away from Lucy again.
"Yes, I did work with Lisanna in the beginning but as soon as I realized what kind of man you were, I cut her off," Lucy tried to explain, but her words fell on deaf words.
"I fucking loved you, Lucy," I watched her eyes widen as I spoke.
"I was falling in fucking love with you and to find out you never gave a shit about me?" I continued shouting as I stood up from the couch.
"You used me, kicked me around like dirt just like everyone else in my life. I can't believe that I let myself get distracted," I began to head for the door, but I was stopped as a teary-eyed Lucy grabbed my arm.
"Natsu! Please believe me! I did work with Lisanna in the beginning but it's over now! I love you too!" Lucy shouted at me, tears streaming down her face. Those were the words I had been waiting to hear for weeks, but now her confession had no effect on me.
"Goodbye Lucy. I hope you and Lisanna rot in hell together," I replied. I quickly removed her hand from my arm and stormed out the door, ignoring the pangs in my heart as I heard her scream my name.
As I stepped down the apartment stairs, I was greeted by a squadron of police cars and officers, each of them pointing a pistol at me.
"Freeze!" One of the officers shouted. Knowing I was fighting a losing battle, I raised my hands, surrendering to them. One of the officers came over and began to cuff me, to which I didn't resist. I was too defeated at this point.
"Natsu Dragneel, you are under arrest for murder, possession of drugs and intention to distribute. You have the right to remain silent…." I said nothing as the guard began reading me my Miranda rights. The guard escorted me to car as I gave one last glance at Lucy's apartment, and my eyes were met with Lucy's gaze as she stared at me from the balcony, a shattered expression on her face.
"Natsu! I love you!" Lucy screamed as they threw me into the squad car. I never once looked back as they drove me away.
A/N: I tried to write as much as I could without breaking into the next chapter! Sorry for any grammar errors or typos, I am writing from my phone right now whilst my computer is in the shop, and the mobile version of Word kind of sucks. Thanks for reading! I hope to update soon!
