A/N: I was determined to get this chapter out on Bakugou's birthday and I barely made it! I hope you're all still enjoying this as much as I am and please feel free to leave a review. You can also follow me on Twitter nindeoronra.
...
Kaylee giggled, arching her neck as a velvety soft nose traced a line from her jaw to her ear. She fidgeted, squirming slightly.
"Hold still!" Mina scolded her as she held up the bottle of glittery fingernail polish. Dozens of polish bottles were scattered about on the table beside them, in a rainbow of colors.
"Sorry! His whiskers tickle!" She giggled again as Momiji nuzzled his face in her neck and started to purr, which sounds like a little clicking sound, unlike that of a cat.
It was the last night of her confinement and when the girls had suggested they all have a "girls' night out," Kaylee had been somewhat torn to agree. She loved that she was included in part of the girls' activities, and especially when it was something fun that they thought she would enjoy, but she also really wanted to spend some time alone with Katsuki. The past week had been somewhat hectic, and although they managed to spend mornings and the evenings together, it was usually surrounded by their classmates. She missed being alone with him.
She spared a glance across the room where he was. Kirishima, Kaminari, Tokoyami, Iida, and Bakugou were gathered around a group of tables, a huge complex board game spread out over them all. He was leaning up against the wall, talking to Kaminari as Tokoyami and Iida planned their next move. Even though the weather was downright freezing outside, he was dressed in a black tank top and tan sweats. Kaylee bit her lip as she watched the muscles in his arms bulge as he crossed his arms over his chest. As if sensing her gaze, he turned to look at her, giving her a smile and a wink, which only made her feel lightheaded as her pulse quickened. She winked back, then her own smile got bigger as she noticed his own face flushed and he quickly turned to Kaminari.
"The best part is coming up!" Tooru squealed and punched Kaylee on the arm to get her attention. Girls' night with Class A apparently included eating and drinking unhealthy snacks, watching romantic comedies, and once she mentioned that she'd never been allowed to paint her nails–it now included having her finger and toenails painted various colors by Mina, who in addition to cutting hair, was quite the nail artist as well. Kaylee was having a lot of fun, although she was starting to feel a little tired from trying to focus on controlling her glow to keep the glare off the TV set and not draw any attention to it. She'd often suspected that most of the class had at least noticed it, but just like Katsuki once told her, none of them ever asked or even mentioned it around her.
Kaylee glanced at the TV, watching Mr Darcy follow Miss Bennett out onto the steps at Pemberley.
"Are we out of Sour Apple Fanta?" Deku shouted from the kitchen, opening cabinets at random.
"Kaylee got the last one!" Ochako called back. Kaylee shifted in her spot on the couch, feeling slightly guilty for taking the last soda, but not by much.
"How long is this movie, anyway?" Kirishima called out. "There's a new All Might special on in an hour, and I want to watch it."
"Oh, I forgot all about that!" Deku looked horrified at the idea he'd missed something to do with All Might.
"But this is Girls' Night!" Tooru protested. "We were going to watch another movie after this. What could a special on All Might tell us that we don't already know, anyway?"
"It's supposed to have some rare, new undiscovered footage from his Golden Age!" Deku turned pleading eyes to Kaylle. "Please? Once it's over you can go back to having Girls' Night, I promise!"
Kaylee stole a furtive glance over at Katsuki and the others, who had paused the game to listen to the conversation. She knew he was secretly just as big of an All Might fanboy as Deku was, and he'd want to watch the special as well. Plus, he'd be able to sit with her.
"I'm fine with that," she replied.
"Oh, thank you so much!" Deku beamed at her, bowing. "I'll be back in an hour!"
"If everyone–" Kyouka hissed, "-would quit interrupting us, we can probably finish it in time!"
"Tch. It's not like that's a good version of Pride and Prejudice. Everyone knows the BBC version from the 90s is the best!"
"Oh my God, Bakugou! I am not having this argument with you again!" Kyouka snapped. "That version is six hours long!"
"I'm not arguing with you either, Lobes, because we both know I'm right!"
Kaylee frowned at Kyouka. "Wait, there's a better version of this? You're showing me an inferior adaptation?"
Kyouka rolled her eyes. "You sound just like him."
"It's not inferior!" Tooru said. "Although, the 90s one has Mr. Darcy jumping in the lake…"
"It's better because the BBC mini-series is true to the novel! It's better because the actors had a better script and were able to give the characters more nuance!"
"Will you two hush?" Momo slapped the table to get everyone's attention. "Kaylee is trying to enjoy the movie!'
"Tch."
"Hmmf."
"I actually liked Pride and Prejudice and Zombies the best," Kaminari said. "Everything is better with zombies."
"Moron." Both Kyouka and Katsuki mumbled that at the same time and Kaylee bit back a grin as she pretended to blow on her already dried nails. It was a funny feeling, having people argue over her and she wasn't too sure what she should say, although she was making a mental note to talk to Katsuki later to find out where she could watch his favorite version.
Quiet reigned, or as much as quiet could reign with a common room full of people doing various tasks. The movie was actually good, and Kaylee wanted to make a note to find a copy of the book to read to compare.
"We should also watch Bridget Jones' Diary too!" Tsu added from her spot on the other side of the couch. "Since Colin Firth actually plays Darcy in both films."
"Good idea, Tsu!" Ochako had a bag of Agemochi and was happily munching on them as the film credits began to roll. "I'm texting Deku that the movie is over."
"Excellent!" Iida slapped Tokoyami on the back as he began putting up the board game. "We just won!"
"Oh, like hell you and Bird Brain won, Four-Eyes!" Bakugou snapped.
"You barely paid attention to the game, Bakugou!" Tokoyami said in his trademark patient tone.
"What do you mean I wasn't paying attention?"
"Dude, between making eyes at Kaylee, glaring at the bunny, and arguing with Jiro about Jane Austen, it's a miracle we got as far as we did!" Kirishima slapped him on the back as they both joined in putting up the game.
Kaylee giggled from her spot, not even pretending like she hadn't been listening to the conversation.
"Fucking rodent, with that twitchy nose and furry ears," Katsuki mumbled, slamming pieces into the box. "Always crawling over her…"
As if he knew he was being talked about, Momiji climbed around the back of Kaylee's neck like a scarf. She scratched him behind his ears affectionately and then sneezed, startling them both.
"See? She's allergic to the fuzzy bastard!"
"I have to say, I never would have suspected Bakugou getting jealous of a rabbit," Mina whispered.
"Oh, he's just being silly," Kaylee defended him. "Katsuki hasn't learned to interpret Momiji's sounds–he thinks Momiji is growling at him when he's actually just purring."
"Momiji certainly has taken to you though, Kaylee," Tooru added. Although Kaylee couldn't see her, she could feel Tooru reach out to pet the rabbit still lounging across her shoulders. As if on cue, he started the low purring sound.
"Look! I'm finished!" Mina proudly beamed at Kaylee as she held up the polish bottle in triumph. Kaylee's eyes widened in surprise as she looked at the final results. It was weird seeing her fingernails be another color, and in this case, it was several different colors.
"I did a few patterns," Mina told her. "Since you have 20 nails and there's 20 of us, I did a nail using each of our colors!" True to her word, each nail had a different design on them, and Kaylee was familiar enough with all their hero costumes to recognize each of them. Her index finger on her left hand was black with a bright orange glittery X, with two dots just above it.
"Which one is mine?" Tooru asked.
"Oh, I just used your favorite colors, Tooru!" Mina gestured to Kaylee's pinky finger which was now a mixture of purple and pinks with some yellow flowers dotted throughout. "I'm the other pinky," Mina burst into laughter. "Get it, because I'm Pinky!"
"They are amazing! You are so talented!" Mina beamed at the praise.
"Is it time for the All Might Special?" Todoroki asked as he joined Momo on one of the seats. Kaylee jumped slightly as the rest of Class 3-A poured in to gather around the TV, grabbing various snacks and drinks. It had been a long time since she'd been completely surrounded by all twenty of them at the same time and she quickly had to damp down the urge to flee. As if sensing her distress, Momiji gently rubbed his face into the side of her neck. Her hands drifted to the soft fur on his head and began stroking his ears. It was comforting.
"Do you think they'll show more of his time abroad? I know he was in South America for a time as well as Africa."
"Oh, I hope we see more of his Silver Age than the Golden Age. I liked his suit better from that time."
"Please let them show my favorite rescue!"
"And the one where he teams up with that super hot hero from Sweden! You know, because the Swedish hero commission is a lot more liberal with their hero costumes and she's practically naked!"
"Dude! How did I forget about her? She practically has a permanent wardrobe malfunction!"
Kaylee listened intently to the multitude of conversations going on around her, trying hard to marry the image of All Might that she knew with the one that apparently the rest of the school knew. It was like he was two completely different characters. The only real time she'd spent with him was at the USJ beach over the summer, and he just seemed like a fun-loving guy, like a super awesome uncle. He let Kaylee and Eri bury him in the sand, told really bad jokes, and just did what Kaylee thought were normal things. She had a hard time picturing him as the Symbol of Peace, the ultimate hero that the rest of the world did.
The entire class was enamored of him, although some more than others–Kaylee smiled to herself as she remembered seeing Deku's room as she had to hunt for Momiji over the summer break. There wasn't an inch of space in his bedroom that wasn't dedicated to All Might, even the picture frames he had of Ochako and his friends and family were All Might themed. Maybe watching this new TV special would be good for her too, as she could help reconcile her knowledge of All Might with theirs.
…
"Oi, hop up! You're in my seat!"
Bakugou scowled down at the invisible form of Hagakure. He'd wanted to spend a quiet evening with Kaylee, but of course she was just too fucking sweet to tell the others no to a girls' night, so instead he ended up playing some stupid fucking board game with long-drawn out rules with fucking Glasses and Bird Brain just to be near her. Then he lost to the stupid fuckers. To make matters worse, he had to watch Koda's rodent crawl all over Kaylee and listen to her giggle and coo and watch her pet the furry son of a bitch. Finally, he'd heard that the last Sour Apple Fanta, his favorite soda, was gone.
Hagakure at least had some sort of brain, because she merely huffed and rose from her seat next to Kaylee and found a spot near Sato. Kaylee smiled up at Bakugou, looking at him like he hung the fucking sun, and his irritable mood melted away as he stretched out on the couch beside her, getting as close as he could without attracting too much attention from the nosy extras around them.
"Hey," she said quietly. "I got you something." She reached between the cushions and pulled out a bright green can, and Bakugou's heart skipped a beat as she handed him his favorite soda.
"Oh hell yeah! You are the best ever!" He leaned in close to give her a quick kiss on the cheek, pausing only when the rodent on her shoulders let out a rumbling growl.
"See!" He exclaimed, glaring at the white fuzzball. "The little bastard is growling at me!"
"Oh he's not! He's purring!" She reached behind her neck to scoop the rabbit up. The animal nuzzled his way right between her breasts, and made a contented sound. Long ears flattened as her hand idly stroked the soft fur, and Bakugou swore the little shit had a smug glint in his eye.
How can she be this dense? "You have got to be kidding me," Bakugou couldn't help but roll his eyes at her stubbornness. "Yo! Koda!" Bakugou called over to Koda, who was just plopping down on one of the chairs. "Tell Kaylee that shitty rabbit doesn't like me!"
"Don't call him a "shitty rabbit," Katsuki! And why wouldn't he like you?"
"Yeah, no. Sorry, Kaylee. Momiji doesn't like Bakugou at all. He thinks you could do way better than him." Koda told her, laughing at her horrified expression.
"I TOLD YOU!" Bakugou pumped his fist in the air. "I was right!"
"He looks so pleased about this," Mineta said to the room at large.
"Is he happy because the rabbit hates him or because Kaylee could do better than him?" Sero mock-whispered.
Kaylee looked stunned, and Bakugou was torn between wanting to laugh at her expression and the need to comfort her.
"Momiji, you should be ashamed." Bakugou couldn't help but smirk as she scolded the rabbit, holding him up and trying to look him in the eyes. The rabbit struggled a little, and kept turning his head as though he wanted to avoid her gaze. "I'm very disappointed in you. Katsuki is amazing and you should be nice to him."
Bakugou ignored the coughing sounds from some of the assholes around them and grinned evilly as the white fuzzball whined as Kaylee gently placed him on the floor with a "Now, come back when you feel like you can be nice."
Bakugou opened his can with a loud pop, nearly sighing at the super sour taste. It was still cold, and man, did it hit the spot. Kaylee curled her long legs underneath her and snuggled up to his side, and he helped adjust the cushions around her.
"Look at my nails that Mina did!" He leaned back as Kaylee excitedly held up both hands to him for his approval. Each fingernail was a different color, and he could easily recognize the colors of everyone's hero costumes. He took her left hand and placed a quick kiss above her index finger, which had his trademark X. "She did my toes too!" She uncurled her legs to waggle her toes for him to admire.
"Pinky did a great job," he told her. He noticed that Deku was on the other index finger along with Cheeks next to it.
"This one is my favorite though," she waved the left index finger with his colors at him, beaming.
"Tch. Of course it is," he bumped foreheads with her and took another sip of his drink. A pang of anger shot through his chest at how fucking excited she was to have her fingernails painted. Fuck, those bastards had taken so many things from her, simple things that she probably didn't even miss.
"What's your problem, shitty nerd?" Bakugou turned to see Deku scowling his way for some reason.
"I thought Kaylee got the last of the Sour Apple Fanta."
"Oh, I did!" Kaylee said cheerfully. "But then I remembered I don't like sour things, so I saved it for Katsuki."
"I thought we all agreed in our first year not to save stuff," the little shit mumbled, and Bakugou gave him a "my girlfriend is awesome" smile and shot him a bird.
Kaylee grinned. "I wasn't here for that, so I cannot be bound by any agreements made before my arrival. Sorry, Deku."
"You can have mine, dude." Kirishima tossed a can of Fanta Muscat to him. "I still can't have anything but water after the other night."
Bakugou laughed. "Idiot. Turns out that quirk of yours doesn't work on your internal organs!" The idiot had to be taken to Recovery Girl to get the vomiting to stop and for the next few days, Kirishima had a very pale complexion and barely could eat anything beyond bland soup. Bakugou may have felt some heartburn, and his throat was still a little sore, but nothing too bad because he was just awesome.
"Did you get any more hits on the video?" Asui asked. "Some of the comments were so funny!"
"Oh shit!" Kaminari frowned at his phone. "Dude, they took down our video!"
"What? Why?" Kirishima asked as he got his seat next to Pinky.
"HeroTube says we violated their terms of service. Damn it, we were so close to almost going viral with that!"
Next to him, Kaylee tensed. He placed his hand over hers in comfort.
"Hey, it's ok," he murmured back. "It's probably something stupid." Bakugou knew what Kaylee was thinking, but she was so careful to stay out of frame, and he made sure that Kirishima didn't mention her name. It had to be for some other reason.
"How so? Did they say?" Bakugou made sure he sounded bored so as to keep Kaylee calm.
"No, just a bunch of forms we should fill out if we want to respond. Man, that sucks!" Kaminari angrily tore open a bag of chips and started munching on them.
"Talk about that later, everyone! The show is about to come on!" Four Eyes grabbed the remote to turn the volume up and everyone settled down to watch.
"Welcome to TV Tokyo's exclusive All Might Special! Tonight we're going to take a look back at the Symbol of Peace, including interviews with those that knew him best, along with some never-seen-before footage of him! And for those of you who consider yourselves to be the ultimate All Might fans, we've got some trivia questions designed to challenge you and test your knowledge!"
"Bring it!" Deku called out to the room at large.
"How about a contest?" Iida asked. "First one to answer correctly wins!"
"Hell yeah!" Bakugou turned to Kaylee, giving her a smug smile. "Get ready to see this!" He was so going to crush everyone here with his knowledge of All Might!
Kaylee gave him her brightest smile and leaned in to whisper, "You've got this!" Fuck, she did that thing again where she touched that sensitive spot on his arm and he had to bite his lip hard to keep from kissing her right then and there.
The show started in earnest, and overall, Bakugou would have given it a 6/10. Some of the "exclusive unseen footage" wasn't really anything they hadn't seen before on the internet, although the production team had managed to clean up the footage and audio to a much higher quality. The interviews were all from previously released material, although there were a few in there from internationally known heroes that he hadn't seen before.
"His teeth should be registered as nuclear weapons," Tony Stark/Iron Man told the cameras. "Even Daredevil complains about their brightness."
"So, there was like this one time, where…Oh my God! All Might just comes up out of nowhere and I was all, "Hey, who are you?" and he was like "I am here!" and he picks up this entire tanker truck that had gone out of control and said "Web-boy! Can you get the civilians to safety?" and I was all like, "Dude! Of course!" and then when we were finished I took him to my favorite spot in Queens and we ate hotdogs and donuts and it was the best day ever!" Bakugou could barely understand a word of what Spiderman was saying (thank God for the subtitles), but he reminded him of Deku with the way he talked and gestured around wildly.
"I would say if anyone was worthy of wielding Mjolnir, it would be the smiling hero from Japan," Thor said.
The trivia questions came at each commercial break, and almost halfway through the program, Bakugou was sorta pissed/impressed at how much the extras knew about All Might. Some of his quieter classmates like Sato, Shoji, and Ojiro were able to get the right answers first, and even Cheeks got a few correct, although Bakugou supposed he shouldn't be so impressed about that–she probably got all her All Might knowledge through the shitty nerd by osmosis.
"Our next trivia question for you fans is this: All Might's costume is red, white, blue, and yellow, but what is his favorite color? Find out after the break!"
"Red?"
"No, I think it's blue!"
"White?"
"You dumbass, who's favorite color is white? That's not even an actual color, it's a shade!"
"Yellow–he wears that yellow suit a lot!"
"Turquoise," came a raspy reply in Bakugou's ear, sending shivers down his spine as usual. He turned to Kaylee, who had been just as engrossed in the program as the rest of them, although much more quiet about it.
He gaped at her. "What? Who the hell likes a color like that?"
"It's turquoise," she said confidently, turning to him with a small smile. "Like the Emerald Sea off the coast of Madagascar."
"That's not right, Kaylee," Kaminari told her. "That's not even a real color. Ouch!" Jiro popped him on the back of his head.
"Where did you hear that from?" Deku asked Kaylee as he took a notebook out from wherever the fuck he stored such things.
"He told me." Kaylee straightened in her seat, squaring her shoulders back. "Over the summer break, when we went to the beach. He said turquoise was his favorite color because it reminded him of the Emerald Sea, off the coast of Madagascar."
"What was he doing there?" Bakugou wanted to know.
"He was helping a local hero friend there, who he met years ago here in Japan. His friend had a similar quirk to yours, Koda, and he needed help busting up a wildlife poacher ring. They were decimating the lemur population for the black market trade."
"Someone has a quirk like mine? And that's what they do with it? How awesome is that?!" Koda sounded super impressed, and hell, Bakugou had to agree with the guy.
"And we're back! Here's the answer to the last trivia question: All Might's favorite color is turquoise!" The show quickly cut to a clip of All Might, "As much as I love the colors in my hero suit, I recently went to help a friend in Madagascar, and the water there, it's a beautiful bluish turquoise color. The water was so clear, and shiny, and the way the sunlight would hit it during the morning…I'd have to say that's my favorite color!"
"See? I told you!" Kaylee shot them all a smug little grin, and Bakugou was torn between outright laughter at Deku's horrified expression that she knew something none of them did and just a tiny bit of jealousy that she knew something that he didn't know about his hero.
"Good job, Kaylee!" Kirishima pumped his fist in the air. Bakugou sat back and squeezed her hand. She settled back down in the cushions, tucking her cheek against his shoulder. The next half hour was more of the same stuff as before. He could feel the steady rhythm of Kaylee's heartbeat, she had somehow managed to tuck herself where she was partially hidden behind him much like the night they watched Titanic. He turned his head and she appeared as though she was almost asleep, her dark eyes half closed.
"Ok last trivia question of the night! What is All Might's favorite movie?"
"Oh, this has got to be something epic! Like an American action movie!"
"Rashomon!" Iida called out. "Seven Samurai!"
"Godzilla!"
"Spirited Away!" Asui said. "He strikes me as a Miyazaki fan."
"I have to go with Sero on this," Deku told them. "He was friends with Stallone and Schwarzenegger."
"It's Singing in the Rain," Kaylee yawned out softly before snuggling back down on his shoulder.
"What?" Bakugou nudged her to wake up.
"His favorite movie is Singing in the Rain," she yawned again, this time stretching.
"That's not a real movie!" Kaminari said. Jiro popped him on the back of his head again. "Ouch! That hurts!"
"Quit being a moron!"
"Yes it is," Kaylee straightened up. "He told me. All Might loves watching musicals from the Golden Age of Hollywood and Singin' in the Rain is his favorite."
Everyone in the room stared at her, mouths open. "Well it's true," she said. "He said it never fails to cheer him up when he sees it. He said he even borrowed a few steps from Donald O'Connor's "Make 'em Laugh!" routine one time when he was fighting some villain. He said he loved how Gene Kelly and dancers of his caliber danced with their entire bodies, not just their feet." She turned to face Bakugou as though telling him a secret. "Also, he told me he had a crush on Debbie Reynolds for a long time."
"You'd think he'd at least pick one with Marilyn Monroe," Mineta huffed. "If he's going to go for that time period."
Bakugou opened his mouth. "It's the part where O'Connor runs up a wall and does a flip," Kaylee told him with a smile. He closed his mouth in shock, a little stunned that Kaylee knew what he was going to ask before he even could get the question formed in his head. Can something be a little endearing and freaky at the same time?
Deku started that annoying muttering under his breath. "Runs up a wall and does a flip, runs up a wall and does a flip." Bakugou quickly did a mental rundown of All Might's moves.
"FALLOUT!" Bakugou jumped up in his excitement, arms spread in the air. No fucking way was he going to let shitty Deku beat him, especially with Kaylee right there. "It was when he fought Fallout in Kyoto at Kinkakuji temple! Fallout charges All Might and at the last second he runs up the side of the temple and gets behind the bastard!" Bakugou especially remembered this battle because he thought Fallout was a really cool name and hated it was wasted on a stupid villain.
"That's right!" Deku smacked his forehead, getting one of his stupid notebooks out again and rifling through it. "Fallout really wasn't that great of a villain and didn't have much strength or power to him, but the fight was cool because All Might used some great one-liners."
Bakugou sat back down and looked over at Kaylee, who now was hugging those long legs of her to her chest and beaming at him, her brown eyes shining in admiration.
"I don't get it." Deku grumbled, and Bakugou laughed at the disgruntled look on his face. "You spent just a handful of days with All Might, Kaylee. How do you know all of this?"
"How do you not?" Kaylee retorted. "Aren't you in his office like all the time for meetings and stuff? For like the entire time you've been here?"
Deku flushed. "Well yeah…"
"And you've never once asked him what his favorite color, favorite movie, or food is?"
"We…we've been busy! We mostly talk about hero stuff!" Deku stuttered, flushing. "And he can't eat or drink!"
"It never occurred to you that in spite of being one of the world's greatest heroes and Japan's Symbol of Peace, he's also just a person? And he wasn't always unable to eat or drink!" Kaylee rolled her eyes.
Deku looked apoplectic and there was no way in hell Bakugou could keep from laughing at him, although he had to admit, he was in the same boat as Deku. How many times had he been in the same room with All Might and Deku, going over All For One and the League of Villains, planning strategies and fighting styles? How many classes had he taken with All Might and he'd never bothered to ask him any of these things?
"What is his favorite food?" Icy-Hot asked.
Kaylee frowned for a moment, thinking. "Um, he said it was yakiimo–is that right?" Bakugou nodded at her pronunciation. "He said there was a great little food truck that went by his neighborhood when he was little, and they made the best ones ever. His dad used to tease him because he bought so many he could barely hold them all."
"He had parents?!" Kaminari looked just as shocked as Deku.
"Of course he had parents, you idiot!" Jiro smacked him on the back of his head again. "Where do you think he came from?"
"Damn it, Kyouka!" Kaminari rubbed the back of his head. "And I mean, yeah, it's not like I didn't know he had parents, but come on you guys…it's like…I know he's a person, but I mean, it's just hard to see him that way–he's…you know…All Might!" Kaminari threw his hands up in the air. "I guess it's like…I know he's lost his powers and all, but I guess I still see him as..as…well him!" Kaminari gestured to the TV screen, where All Might stood in all his glory, cape fluttering in the wind, grinning brightly at the cameras. Bakugou recognized the rescue as one of his most famous.
"Yeah, that's All Might!" Several others chimed in.
"Won't it bother you–all of you–that one day, you won't be seen as actual people though? You'll only be seen as heroes?" Kaylee asked the room at large.
"I'll be the number one hero, so what the fuck will I care?" Bakugou gave her his best smirk. She grabbed his hand and squeezed it.
"No, I'll be the number one hero!" Deku announced. Bakugou couldn't help but beam at Kaylee, who had just rolled her eyes at Deku's comment.
"In your dreams," she muttered where no one but Bakugou could hear.
….
Kaylee arched her neck as warm lips trailed from her ear down to her throat, then back up to claim her mouth in a scorching kiss. She'd barely gotten the door closed behind her before Katsuki had her pressed up against it. Heat suffused her, her heart felt like it would burst from her chest, and Katsuki was kissing her so hard she was barely able to breath. Oxygen was overrated anyway.
"Fuck," Katsuki panted as he pulled back, pressing their foreheads together. Kaylee shivered from the loss of heat. "Didn't think I'd ever get you alone this week. Too many fucking assholes in this place."
"S–sorry," she gasped out, relaxing back against the door. Trying to control her glow tonight had really exhausted her but now that she didn't have to be concerned about it…it was freeing. "When the girls asked me to watch a movie with them, I didn't know how to say no and…"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're just too fucking sweet," he said as he punctuated each word with a short kiss to her lips, her nose, her eyes. Kaylee pulled him closer, threading her fingers through his deliciously soft hair that defied gravity. No one should have hair that looked like that and was that soft. It was nearly criminal.
"I missed you too." Kaylee began kissing him all over as well, resisting the temptation to sink her teeth into the muscle on his neck, but had to lightly skim over it anyway, relishing the guttural groan that rose from his chest. "I have to admit, I had fun though. Especially when I surprised all of you with my All Might trivia!" She chuckled as she thought about the surprised looks on everyone's faces, especially that of Deku, who Kaylee really thought might have gone into some sort of shock.
"Yeah, you really got one pulled over on the damned nerd," Bakugou lightly chucked her under her chin. "I don't think I've ever seen him make that face before." His crimson eyes twinkled at her. "Look at you," he said, his gaze traveling over her. "You don't even need a light in here, you're so fucking bright."
"I'm happy," she said. "And you have no idea how hard tonight was trying to keep it all in check. It's exhausting!"
"You're glowing more and more now. Do you feel anything?" He grabbed her arm, running his warm fingers up and down as goosebumps appeared on the smooth skin.
"No, it's like…," she bit her lip, thinking. "It's like I have to concentrate harder now, to keep it at bay. I can almost feel it, rising up inside me."
"Is it hurting you?"
Kaylee shook her head. "No. It doesn't hurt. It's hard to explain, but I feel like there's something I need to do. Does that make sense?"
He held his hand just above her arm. "Your light doesn't seem to give off any heat or aura or anything that I can feel."
Just then a horrid thought dove into Kaylee's mind and she suddenly felt sick. "Oh God, what if this is hurting you, Katsuki? What if this is dangerous to you–to everyone? What if this is some sort of radiation? I could be slowly killing you all." The words came pouring from Kaylee's mouth as she thought about the possibility of hurting everyone she cared about.
He rolled his eyes, a frown furrowing his brow. "Why does that beautiful mind of yours always turn yourself into the dangerous one? Idiot."
Kaylee's breath stuttered in her chest when he'd called her beautiful. "How can you know for sure though?"
"I'd know. Trust me." Katsuki's eyes roamed around the room, and Kaylee realized he was right–she was glowing so brightly that no lamp was needed, the entire room was cast in warm light. "Did you order some warm clothes this time?" He asked as he noted the pile of packages on her bed.
"Yes!" Now distracted, she dashed to the bed to open them, eager to show off her purchases to him. "I got a nice warm coat, and snow boots! Oh, and a winter hat, and gloves, and…"
"What no scarf?"
"I have a scarf." She nodded to the beige scarf hanging next to her door, where she could easily grab it in the mornings.
"Technically, that's my scarf." He smirked at her.
Kaylee pouted. "But you gave it to me. I wear it everyday! It smells like you."
"Tch."
Flushing, Kaylee turned back to showing him the items she bought. "Oh! This came in early!" Kaylee nearly danced in joy as she discovered the gift she'd specially ordered for Katsuki at the bottom of the pile. "Here, I got you something too!"
"It's not my birthday, you know." He smiled, showing her the dimple in his cheek as he took the package. Kaylee was always surprised at how methodical he was about some things, like opening a package or gift, when he's so volatile in other ways.
"Go on, open it!" Excitement bubbled in her belly as she watched him open up the gift, taking out the black swath of fabric.
"Hey–is this–my logo?" Kaylee watched as his long fingers gently traced the bright orange X with two dots.
She nodded eagerly. "Well, funnily enough, I thought you might need a scarf of your own, so I found someone online to make one for you." Katsuki stared at the scarf, eyes wide, and Kaylee started to worry. "Do you not like it?"
"I…it's…I've never…no one's ever…" he stuttered, still tracing the X. "Fuck."
Kaylee squealed in surprise as he suddenly jerked her to him, crushing the scarf between them as he squeezed her tightly, burrowing his face in her neck.
"It's my first official piece of hero merch. I fucking love it!" Kaylee sighed in relief, then found herself being kissed within an inch of her life.
"I'm so glad," she whispered against his lips, giving him another kiss. "I noticed you didn't have anything with the Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight logo on it…"
"It's the best thing anyone has ever given me." He kissed her again. "I love it!" Kaylee watched as he wrapped it around his neck, turning to look in the mirror, arching his neck like a model. He adjusted the ends, smoothing the X and adjusting the silver tassels that hung at the bottom.
Suddenly, a large yawn drew his gaze to her. "Fuck, it's super late. We both need to get to bed"
Kaylee nodded, still yawning as he gave her a final set of kisses on her forehead and nose before placing the scarf delicately back in the box and throwing away the wrapping.
"Tomorrow morning. Be downstairs at 5 am sharp!" He ordered, his voice going deep as he strode to the door. "Break time is over, bad girl. We have to make up for lost time."
Kaylee mock saluted him. "Yes sir!"
He grinned. "5 am," he warned as he opened the door. "Your ass will be mine!"
"Is that a threat or a promise?" she called after him.
