Prompt: "I can't smile at you, I'm mad."

A/N: Sorry it's been so long since my last update. I've been sick with vertigo and trying to sit up and type, when every head movement makes you want to throw up, is not ideal!

"Babe… it's not the end of the world."

Alex looked down, shaking her head angrily. "I just don't understand why she did it."

Kelly smiled gently, kissing her wife's forehead and snuggling her closer. "Yes, you do. It was what Kara needed for her happiness. It's been a long journey for her to find her true place in this world. She's not like her cousin, Alex. Isolating herself just makes her miserable."

"I know," Alex sighed. "But she always said that she didn't want to reveal her identity because it was dangerous for her family. Why the one-eighty?"

"Because," a soft voice sounded out near the open window after a few soft taps echoed on the frame. "I've learned that the people closest to me can most definitely take care of themselves. You all saved me from the phantom zone, for Rao's sake." Kara smiled as she crossed the room and took a seat next to her sister, draping her cape across her lap. "I wouldn't have revealed my identity if I didn't have full confidence in that." She smiled again. "Please, Alex?"

"I can't smile at you right now. I'm mad," her sister replied and Kara's shoulders visibly stiffened.

"I thought you understood…" the hero began.

"I'm sorry… I do…" Alex sighed again. "But it never occurred to me that I'd have to share you with the world like this, Kara."

"Oh." The hero looked down, then lifted her eyes and reached out to cup her sister's cheek. "But, Alex… don't you know my world always starts with you? Supergirl or not?' She sobered a little then. "But now… Esme comes first. I'll ALWAYS protect her first. I promise."

"We know," Alex and Kelly said together, and bright smiles broke out across their faces as they looked at each other.

"Fuck. C'm'ere," Alex stated, pulling her sister in for a hug. "Ugh… now I have to make my socials private because I'm Supergirl's sister. I can't keep up with the comments."

Kara laughed as she hugged her sister tightly, making her bones creak and reminding her of the night she first came out as Supergirl, almost seven years previously. "You'll survive."
