Prompt: "Please tell me this isn't why you woke me."
Kara was sitting on the edge of her bed, not tired in the slightest, eyes on the lump under the sheets in the bed across the room. The only part of Alex visible, with normal vision that is, was one foot, hanging over the side of the mattress. Kara hoped the Under-the-Bed-Monster she'd heard so much about, wasn't around. Even SHE couldn't fix an eaten foot.
The kryptonian decided to help so she crept across the room, almost floating, and sat on the edge of Alex's bed to slowly ease her foot back inside the covers and into safety. Alex groaned and shifted, pulling the sheet down from her face and glaring at the new sister she didn't want.
"What are you doing?" she demanded. "Why are you over here? You know you're not supposed to be on my side of the room!"
Kara sighed and looked down, running a hand through her blonde hair and blowing out a frustrated breath. "I was saving you, Alex. Rao, can you not even let me do that?!"
Brown eyes slowly blinked. "Saving me? From what?"
"The Under-the-Bed-Monster!"
Alex blew out a long breath and shook her head. "Please tell me that isn't actually why you woke me up."
"But your foot was out in the open, and I didn't want you to get hurt!" Tears pricked at the younger girl's eyes, and she shook her head unhappily. "I do actually care if you get eaten you know!"
That caused Alex to stop in her tracks. "You... you were really worried about the UBM hurting me?"
Kara lifted her hands and dropped them in exasperation. "Of course I was! I know we're not exactly BBFs but I do care!"
"It's BFFs, Kara, not BBFs" the older girl said, stifling a begrudging smile. "And listen, I was only joking. There's no such thing as the Under-the-Bed-Monster. It's just a scary story to make kids stay in bed during the night. So, there's nothing to be worried about, ok?"
Kara just stared at her for a moment. "It's not real?"
Alex shook her head. "No, it's not real at all."
"But..." the kryptonian's bottom lip quivered. "What about the Tooth Fairy... and... and... the Easter Gerbil... and..."
Alex tried desperately not to laugh. "How about we go back to sleep now and we can talk about that tomorrow?"
"Okay," Kara agreed in a less than happy tone. "Tomorrow morning on the way to school." She retreated to her own side of the room and climbed into bed, completely missing the look of... almost affection on her new sister's face.
"Sleep tight, Kara. Don't let the bedbugs bite."
"WHAAAAAATTTT?!"
