Chapter 2
Later that night, Snowclaw visited Pinestar. She was there to talk to him about Redkit and the fact that
they were leaving. The alabaster she cat meowed, "Pinestar we can't leave! Redkit is too young to
travel long distances! And the mountain path is too dangerous for kits to travel on." The tom looked at his mate with shock. He had forgotten about Redkit. "Is she old enough to eat solid food?" He asked her. The alabaster she cat meowed, "She's just now tasting solid food." Pinestar then began thinking to himself. We must teach Redkit to hunt. It's our only choice. He meowed to her, "We'll teach her to hunt and climb trees. We will also show her the moon pool." Snowclaw meowed with shock, "What!? But that's against the warrior code Pinestar!" Pinestar meowed regrettably, "I know that Snowclaw, but we can't take her with us. Redkit will only slow us down." Snowclaw thought for a moment, We can't just abandon Redkit! She means too much to the clan! Pinestar meowed, "I know it's the wrong thing to do, but it's the only choice we have Snowclaw. I'm sorry. After we've taught her how to survive, we'll build a den for her to live in and report to the clan that Redkit was killed by a fox. Which means that we'll have to kill a fox, but that's no problem for us. Only we will know that she's still alive and we'll frequently check on her through Starclan." Snowclaw then agreed, "Ok we'll teach her to catch fish and I know a basic skill that's very easy to learn. Even a kit could learn it." Pinestar smiled, "Good now let's begin the lesson."
The two cats left the camp before the sun came up with their kit following close behind. Snowclaw taught Redkit a pawflip skill and she learned it quickly, while her father prepared a climbing lesson. When Redkit finally perfected her paw flip, her mother purred, "Keep this moss ball handy to practice your paw flip, ok Redkit?" The crimson colored she kit mewed, "Yes mother." Redkit went to her father and she quickly learned to climb and she was ready to survive on her own. Then the parents stood over their kit and Pinestar meowed, "Redkit there's something we need to show you. Please come with us." Redkit nodded and followed her parents to secret and special location. They led her to the cave and they showed her the moon pool. Redkit gasped, "What is this place?" Her mother meowed, "This is the moon pool. It's Moonclan's best kept secret." Pinestar explained, "Here we are able to speak with our warrior ancestors and ask them for their wisdom and advice. All you have to do is touch your nose to the water when you want to talk to Starclan." Redkit asked, "So I can really talk to Grandfather Brackenstar here?" Snowclaw answered, "Yes you can. You can come here and talk to him whenever you want, But you must promise to never tell anyone about the moon pool." Redkit then questioned, "But what if I meet cats who believe in Starclan and they need a place to talk to them, do I still have to keep it a secret?" The parents looked at each other and then a few minutes later they nodded. Pinestar then meowed, "If it's for that reason, you may tell them about the moon pool." Then Redkit nodded and promised that she would never reveal the secret. Then they went back to the den.
Later in the early morning, the sun came up. Pinestar and Snowclaw left Redkit in a den, they built, out of brambles. Redkit woke and mewed, "Mom, Dad, where are we going?" Snowclaw purred to her kit, "You can't come with us Redkit. It's too dangerous for you." Redkit then mewed, "Will you come back?" Pinestar meowed, "Redkit we don't know if we'll come back or not, but a young kit like you can't travel very far." Snowclaw meowed, "I'm sorry Redkit you have to stay here, you can't come with us." Redkit looked at them shocked. Pinestar meowed, "Just know that no matter where we are, we will always love you and you'll always be apart of Moonclan." Redkit watched them walk away, but she was completely stunned. Redkit was being abandoned by her own clan. When the clan began moving out, Redkit's yowls and cries echoed through the silent forest. Soon she was alone, but she knew how to catch fish and climb trees so she knew she could survive. But even though she had the skills to survive, she was very lonely and missed her parents. She missed her friends and her whole clan.
Young Redkit had to grow up fast because she needed to survive. She decided to practice her climbing skills. She wanted to increase her climbing speed, so she could escape her enemies faster. She also did some exercises to increase her overall speed and strength. She also made plans to go back to the camp and take what was left of the "Fresh Kill Pile" so that she wouldn't starve just in case it became difficult to catch fish. She also knew that she could ask Starclan for any guidance she needed. Poor Redkit struggled with the fact that she had been left behind by her clan. She had a flurry of emotions racing through her head. She was angry, sad, and hurt. She thought that they had betrayed her, but deep down she knew that wasn't the case. Redkit, however, longed to understand why they left and why she couldn't go with them. The only thing she knew that she had to do was survive until her clan returned. Redkit vowed that she would learn to survive just as her parents wish for her to. She wouldn't let anything or anyone kill her.
