It took Olivia a minute to gather her thoughts together. She had been so buried in her thoughts that she had unwittingly endangered her own life. She could well be dead now, if a complete stranger hadn't risked their own life to save her.
'Are you alright?' Olivia turned towards the voice, needing to express her gratitude to her saviour. Olivia was still on her hands and knees on the grass in the park, and as she crawled around to face the person who had saved her, she glanced upwards.
She had been saved by a man of about her age which surprised Olivia. He must have been incredibly strong to have pulled Olivia back out of the path of the car as fast as he did. As tall as Olivia, he had blond/light brown hair.
'You… you… you just saved my life.' For some unknown reason, Olivia found herself shaking and a bit tongue tied. Probably the shock of what had almost happened… what else could it be?
'Don't sugar coat it? I just pulled you out of the way of the car, that's all.'
'That amounts to the same thing in my book. I could well be dead now'
'But you aren't'
'Yes, and that is because of you.' Olivia began to get to her feet but then her knees buckled underneath her and she dropped to the floor again.
'Are you alright?' The man was suddenly at Olivia's side his hand on Olivia's arm, helping her upright.
'Yes, I'm just a bit shaken up that's all. What's your name?'
'Peter. Peter Stone.'
'Nice to meet you Peter, I'm Olivia Benson. Thank you for saving me,'
'You're welcome Olivia, but I was just in the right place at the right time that's all. I'd like to think that others would have done exactly what I did.'
'I don't think they would have done, but I'm glad I got you anyway to save me.'
The two of them stood in silence for a moment, content in the company of their own thoughts. Neither realise that Peter still hand his arm on Olivia's- they were both lost in their own thoughts. Then Olivia's phone began to ring in her pocket. Frowning, she moved away from Peter and answered it.
'Hi Fin I'm just in the park what okay I'm on my way now".
'Problems?' Peter raised an eyebrow after having overheard the entire conversation, but as it was nothing to do with him, he didn't comment.
'Just my collegue wanting to know where because we have a call out. Look, I have to go.
'I'm sorry, I didn't mean to keep you'
'You aren't keeping me from anything. You saved my life, and now I have to rush off.'
'It's okay, the rest of the world won't stop. It was nice to meet you Olivia, maybe see you around?'
'Are you free tomorrow night?'
'Are you asking me on a date?' Peter grinned at Olivia.
'No! No, I just want to buy you a drink to say thank you'
'There's really no need Olivia, it's okay'
'Peter, you just saved me from being mowed down by a car, the least I can do is buy you a drink to say thank you.'
'Well if you're sure…'
'I am'
'Then yes I am. Pass me your phone'
Olivia handed her phone over to Peter and watched him for a minute playing with the keys, before he handed it back to her.
'You have my number now. Text me and we'll arrange that drink'
'Good. Right, I better go. Thanks again'
'Theres no need to thank me Olivia'
'Yes there is Peter, there is every need'
