Did I Hear that Right?
Caim had been listening to Jazz and Lied discuss their experiences during the race. One focused on the value of various objects he'd seen and tried to snatch and the other discussed how they had flown low so that he could get an experience comparable to a video game, dodging or outflying threats. It was better than moping over his failure to successfully appeal to any of the girls, earlier.
Seeming to have given up on the stragglers, Sabnock and Iruma, Kalego Sensei had just called over the rank owl, ready to present their ranks. Although Caim could easily tell that Sabnock was a powerful demon, he had his doubts about Iruma. He seemed so meek that it was hard to imagine him actually defeating Asmodeus or turning a teacher into a familiar.
Then, before the ranking ceremony could begin, a gigantic form appeared on the horizon. One that had turned out to be the Guardian of Cutthroat Valley carrying the two missing members of their class, along with its own baby.
When the Guardian let the two off, most of the class was either completely focused on them or on the teachers interaction with the Guardian. But for him, the other figure drew his attention.
The baby declared Iruma its friend for cutting himself to heal the wound on its leg. And although he didn't approach Iruma after it left, he saw the cloth wrapped around his hand.
Maybe he'd misunderstood, Caim reasoned, echoes of legends bouncing around his head.
Therefore, he just about lost it when a few minutes later, the rank owl shrieked "The Ring" in terror before slipping away and flying off at full speed, declaring that it wasn't "sticking around for when that thing woke up". Iruma called out to it, holding up a hand that had a golden band perched on the finger next to his pinky; one that emanated a dark, threatening aura.
Even as Iruma started shaking his hand and tugging at the thing, desperately trying to pull it off, everyone started backing away. Caim was glad it wasn't just him, because then he would have had to overcome the coward label.
Still, they all watched as Iruma struggled with a ring that had clearly bound itself to his finger, thoughts of a familiar legend running through his mind.
They didn't have much time to think, though, for as Iruma turned to ask them to help him, 'that thing' finally made its appearance. It was a looming shadow that risen from the ring, curled up behind Iruma and towered over him, staring everyone down menacingly with glowing red eyes.
And that night, the memories of the whispers—of which he only caught "Master's scared," and "I'm hungry" before the monstrosity began to scream—would just serve as another reminder of why Iruma was not someone to cross.
So, although I won't be giving much attention to Kamui due to not caring for the characters designed for the pervert role so many series promote, his ability to communicate with anyone and anything (we see that it's not just animals later in the series, probably season 3 for anime only people) makes him useful for certain moments. There wasn't much for me to do with this but I still wanted to post it.
Various Characters may get a focus just based on where my ideas take me.
