Saliya was following her elder sister through the dark passageways and crevices of the underdark. The two Darksong Knights halted and dashed inside a small tunnel to their right in order to let a group of hook horrors pass. Saliya heaved a sigh after the last hook horror sauntered down a different tunnel.

"Are you sure we're going the right way," Saliya whispered. She was perspiring profusely and her white waist length hair was matted and sticky. She really wanted a good night's sleep on a soft bed and a warm bath. I really miss the promenade, her thoughts turned to home. She frowned while she clutched the hilt of her sword the gem in the pommel glowed a soft blue while she held it. My under shirt is damp my feet are covered in calluses I probably smell like a Roth's behind and my armor needs to be thoroughly cleaned and then polished. She pulled out the mithril symbol of her goddess that she wore around her neck. After silently saying a short prayer she placed it back under her mithril chainmail.

Dalia wasn't even an inch taller than her younger sister and she was also feeling the same way Saliya did. The two looked like twins but they were actually more than thirty years apart. The people who met them for the first time always mistook them for the same age which was both flattering and frustrating to her at the same time.

You're not the only one who wants to go back home, but Eilistraee is worried about the new god or goddess that had appeared and she doesn't need or want another enemy. We already have three, so there is no way we can possibly deal with a fourth. Dalia frowned and her ears dipped. At least not with our current numbers.

After shaking her head and with the danger now past Dalia slowly nodded to Saliya before she crept back out into the tunnel that would eventually lead them to Menzoberranzan. Dalia brushed several strands of her hair out of her face before motioning for her younger sibling to follow her.

At first she was really excited about going on an expedition for her goddess Eilistraee. When Quilé asked all of the Darksong Knights for a volunteer to go down into the Underdark and find the city of Menzoberranzan in order to rescue or at least speak to a new god or goddess who had shown up there, she was the only one to raise her hand. Her younger sister Dalia hesitantly put her hand up as well. Now it has been weeks since they left and right now Dalia wasn't entirely sure that she was going the right way.

Every once in a while they would stop to eat some of their previsions which were now getting dangerously low. After making their way through several more narrow tunnels it finally lead them to a tunnel that even a giant could easily walk through and there at the end of it there was a faint glow.

Dalia's eyes widened. After weeks of traveling is our destination finally within reach. She turned to Saliya and they both smiled at each other before running towards the light. The pair of Darksong Knights got on their bellies and crept to the edge of the cliff that gave them a grand view of the city of Drow. Menzoberranzan was beautiful it filled the giant chasm the stonework and magicks filled the two Drow heart's with splendor. They also knew that their mission didn't really start until now. The city was truly a wonder, but that wonder was filled with Drow Elves that worshipped their mortal enemy, Lolth the Spider Queen and with the way most of the buildings and towers were decorated with designs of spiders and webs it sent chills down their spines.

Dalia swallowed while Saliya started shaking. "What if we're caught?" Saliya whispered, fear sounded clearly behind those words.

Dalia turned to her. "We won't if we're carful," she eyed the top of her sister's low cut mithril chainmail shirt. "We'd better keep the symbols of our goddess out of view."

Saliya instinctively clutched her shirt where her medallion was hidden. She nodded nervously before fallowing her sister back to her feet and to find a way down into the city.

Alton DeVir was studying a scroll of parchment on his desk when the door to his office creaked open a frown formed on his disgusting face that had been badly burned with acid. At first he thought that it was another visit from Matron Sinafay turned out it wasn't her but another woman.

"Greetings, ber'nan," she said while pulling the hood off her head.

Alton's eyes widened, there in front of him was a Drow woman who looked like his late mother Ginafea. "You can't be my mother because she's dead!" He got up from his chair so fast it fell to the floor.

"No," a small smile appeared on her lips. "I am not our mi'thia I am your sri'na, Kindra though my master actually calls me kid all of the time." She gave him a half shrug. "Still it is really you right Alton?" She peered at him while she rubbed the underside of her chin.

Alton stared at her in disbelief. "I thought that I was the only survivor of the raid." He muttered leaning up against his desk and placing one hand on top of it to give him support. She came over to inspect him up close which made him balk for a second especially when she got so in his face their noses where almost touching.

"What happened to you," Kindra said after stepping away from him and placing her hands behind her while grinning at him.

Alton shook his head. "That is what I wanted to ask you," his eyes filled with hope. "are there any more survivors or are you the only one?" He was shocked when she nodded the affirmative.

"Yep our little sri'na Naileen is alive and well, she's with our master right now doing some shopping at the bazaar."

There was that term again, Alton stared at her. "And who is this master of yours?" He sounded and looked angry when he said it that startled his sister a bit.

"He's V," she closed her eyes and thought. "He's umm not from here I guess would be the most accurate way to describe him."

Not from here, Alton thought. "Is he from Ched Nasad?"

Kindra shook her head making her hair dance wildly behind her. That was when Alton noticed her appearance. Kindra wasn't wearing the clothes a priestess usually wears. Instead of an armored breast plate she was wearing a black low cut sleeveless shirt that exposed her midriff and she was wearing a pair of pants instead of the usual cloth that most priestesses wore. The pants had two oversized pockets near the thighs and they were almost all black except where the silver colored hems were stuffed into her black boots. She had removed her black hooded cloak after she entered the room and had draped it over one of the backs of the spare chairs near the door.

"What are you wearing," Alton said aloud, with the surprised look she gave him he thought that she was going to strike him with her whip, but she didn't have one of those either. There was only a metal cylinder that hung from her belt. Alton wasn't really sure if it was even a weapon or not.

Kindra had gone wide eyed and looked herself over before laughing. Her mannerisms were also off-putting she was nothing like the priestesses of Lolth which confused him even more. "You mean my Imperial Shadow Knight uniform?" She gestured to herself. "Do you like it?" She spun around and smiled after she stopped.

"Shadow Knight…" Alton racked his brain to think if he'd ever heard of an organization like that. "I know that Eilistraee calls her warriors Darksong Knights but I've never heard of a… what was the full title again?"

"Imperial Shadow Knights of the Marcisian Empire," Kindra sing-songed

Again her attitude was nothing like a usual Drow. "And you learned this all from your master?"

"Yep," she gave him a toothy grin. "He's really smart!"

Alton also smiled. "Is he powerful?"

Kindra stopped smiling and again Alton thought that she was going to strike him, when she narrowed her eyes at him. "He's unbelievable strong," her words held such conviction, praise and faith that Alton was sure that her master might actually be one of the goddesses that had appeared recently which aggravated him to no end, especially when Matron Sinafae called off the war with house Do'Urden after they allied with the goddesses who, if there is any truth to the rumors about them then they were stronger than Lolth and apparently on par with even Ao.

Alton spaced out for a moment, wait, he thought. She said that her master is a he and his name is V? So then he isn't one of the goddesses, but if not then there is a chance that he might be an unknown. Alton looked her in the eye, wanting to confirm something. "Your master he saved you the night that house Do'Urden attacked right?"

Kindra wasn't sure where her ber'nan's line of questioning was headed because his mind was really difficult to read. He had apparently practiced using mental barriers but to Kindra they were sloppily constructed because every once in a while she could find a hole to peer through and what she found was nothing but thoughts of vengeance. She didn't really have any such feelings toward House Do'Urden she had learned that Lolth wasn't a true goddess and her master told her and her sri'na about several other gods though they both decided that they would worship him even though he adamantly refused until his God Chaos essentially ordered him to.

Kindra and her sri'na both fell in iloni with the half demon half god who was completely opposed to having worshipers even the svirfnebli had called them foolish to make him their deity. They didn't care nor did she care about the machinations of the insect as V had called her and after learning the truth they also knew that she was nothing more than a bug too.

Kindra blinked a few times. "Yes, V saved my sri'na and I. He was too late to save our younger ber'nan but he picked us up in his arms and fled." Kindra looked at the floor in shame. Alton didn't know what to make of her behavior.

"We…" she looked at Alton with sadness in her eyes. "Or at least I… gave V a hard time the first few years. I had grown up under Lolth's teachings and that was really hard to break. I knew that V meant well and Naileen took an immediate liking to him but I remained stubborn." She sighed. "And to be honest with you ber'nan I still am at times."

Alton couldn't believe what he was hearing. "So why have you come to seek me out after all this time?" That question burned inside of him ever since she walked into his office.

"Honestly we didn't even know you were alive until a few deronns ago," Kindra placed her hand on her hip and gave him another half shrug. "As far as we knew we thought that we were the last of House DeVir…"

"So what now," Alton questioned. "Are you going to accuse House Do'Urden and return to our former home as the new Matron Mother?"

Kindra killed that idea by laughing at him. "Absolutely not," she narrowed her eyes at him. "Do you think I'd ever go back to being a slave after knowing what freedom tastes like?" She got right in his face again. "No ber'nan the reason I've come here to see you, is to ask you if you wanted to join us?"

Alton didn't answer he backed away from her, went behind his desk to pick up his fallen chair. He straightened his wizard robes before sitting down. When his eyes fell upon this strange alien creature that was wearing his sister, he placed his elbows on top of his desk, crossed his fingers and rested his misshapen chin on top of them. "I'll need some time to think about this…" he nodded his head toward the door to subtly tell her to leave.

Kindra took the hint, there was a look of sorrow and disappointment on her face while she walked over to the spare chair to pick up her cloak and wrap it around herself.

Masoj Hun'ett braced himself up against the wall right outside Alton's office. He covered his mouth with both hands while he overheard almost the entire conversation between the two DeVir siblings. He scurried off when he heard Kindra dawn her cloak. Hiding behind an intersecting hallway's wall he peered around it to watch the Drow woman leave. When Masoj no longer heard the sound of her footsteps he came around the corner, but instead of going into Alton's office he headed after Kindra, though he wasn't going to follow her, he was going to head home and inform his mother.
