Chapter 3
Temperance was having a pleasant and very, very inappropriate dream about Seeley Booth. Which wasn't rare, these dreams started after that intense kiss under the rain during their first case together and got much more frequent after she saw him without a shirt after he got blown up at her apartment (he got bruises but if you took them away, anyone could see he had an amazing physique, he is a great example of the male specimen as Brennan would say). They were just getting to the part where Booth took of his boxers and began climbing on top of Brennan when a wail got her out of her slumber.
She quickly sat up in bed and looked at the right side of the bed, Andy was kicking and crying. All Brennan could think to do was get up and gather the little boy in her arms, hoping he will calm somewhat.
"Shhh, baby it's alright." she said in a soothing voice. After a few minutes the wailing and crying turned into small whimpers and she figured he probably got hungry, "Are you hungry? Let's fix you a bottle, okay?" She gave up her philosophy of babies won't understand, why would I talk to them? a few hours ago, she figured that talking wouldn't be pointless, it could help the infant to develop his speech. He was three months old, but learning isn't a bad thing.
She got out of her room and headed towards the kitchen where she poured hot water out of a thermos and combined it with cold water. Then, she got the formula and scooped 4 scoops of the powder and mixed it with the water.
While she fed the now calm baby, she began thinking about all the things she needed to do tomorrow – today.
Call Cam to tell her I'm taking a few days off.
Buy clothes for Andy, I only got a few onesies and a couple of hats he had in his diaper bag.
Buy a few more bottles, formula, and diapers.
Buy a crib, a changing table, and toys. Did three months old babies play with toys? I'll ask Booth later.
Andy released the nipple from his mouth indicating he was done. Carefully, Brennan placed him in her shoulder so she could burp him. Earlier that day Booth taught her how to properly burp a baby and now she was hoping she did it right. Then she stood up and after checking on the boy and seeing him asleep, she decided she better more rest.
After accommodating the pillows like she did earlier she got into bed too. Laying there trying to fall asleep again, she thought that maybe she should call Booth, maybe he could tell her a few things she needed but might have forgotten. He has Parker and has had to buy him things as a baby. He'll know what I need.
During the rest of the night Brennan got up two more times to feed Andy, but at 7:35 her ringing phone was the reason she woke up. Before reaching for it, she quickly checked on the baby and found him awake but just playing with his hands.
"Brennan" she said with a husky I just woke up voice.
"Hey Bones! How did your first night with Andy go?" Booth said with a light chuckle.
"It went well, I just woke a few times to feed him, but he behaved."
"That's what babies do Bones, they wake up multiple times at night, you'll have to do that for a few more months in fact." Booth shook his head with a smile. "Hey, I know you don't have much stuff for the little man, what do you say we go shopping?"
"Actually, I was thinking of asking for your help with that," Andy began reaching for her, so she picked him up and laid him on her chest, where he began playing with her hair. "I don't know all the things babies are supposed to have, so maybe you can help me find all he needs."
"Great! Uhm, I took a few vacation days, I have the rest of the week off. What do you say I pick you up and we go to the diner for breakfast?"
"Booth, you didn't have to take vacation days to help me" she had a small frown on her face.
"I wanted to, okay? I know babies are difficult to take care of," he explained logically, "and… I wanted to spend time with you and Andy" he finished with a gentler tone.
"Thank you, Booth." She said softly, "Well, I must get ready. Andy here is hungry, and I have to take a shower too." They said their goodbyes and hung up.
Around 8:20 Booth knocked on his partner's door. "Hi Booth." Brennan said with a smile and with Andy in her arms.
"Hi Bones!" he smiled right back and turned to face the baby, "Hi little man" he then took him and began making goofy faces at him and saying nonsense, earning a laugh from him and his foster mother. "Ready to go?"
Brennan nodded and after gathering Andy's things they left.
