Thanks for the support. 2nd Chapter of The Truth of Arcadia Bay! Comment and Like!
Agent Barns was driving down Main Street in the small Oregon town of Arcadia Bay. Few cars were out on the road as she approached the stoplight. She pulls out her phone to quickly text Berry.
Sophia: Berry, we never actually discussed a meeting point lol. where do u wanna meet?
A couple seconds later..
Berry: Meet me at the Two Whales Diner. It should be down the street from you on the left. Parking on the left of the diner.
Sophia puts her phone away as the light turns green and she continues down the street. She spots the diner. "Two Whales Diner huh? Cute place." She observes.
She checks the other side of the road for cars and pulls into the parking lot. "Not much space.." She thinks. Sophia eventually pulls into the space to the left of her as the lot was currently occupied by a shift RV and a booth type area, which seemed to be run by a local fishermen.
Sophia steps out of her car and locks it. She takes a curious look at the booth and walks over to the table. The signs read "Save Our Ocean!"
"Evening sir." She greets "Are you one of those 'ocean activists' that people keep talking about?"
"In a sense yes ma'am. I am a local fisherman here in Arcadia Bay." The fishermen explains.
"Ah so have caught anything big today?"
"No ma'am. Unfortunately, things are just the same anymore since I was growing up here. Fish were jumping everywhere now everything has just stopped."
"That is absolutely terrible! What has happened to the ocean life."
"Well ma'am is just those damn Prescotts! scuse my French..."
"Sir, who are the Prescotts?" She asks
The fisherman squints at her. "Your an out of towner aren't you.."
She nods. "Well let me give you a crash course. The Prescotts are A-list assholes who promised great things for Arcadia Bay but instead treat this place like there own backyard! I wouldn't be surprised if the Prescotts owned everything here. They bought the rights to the harbor and pushed me out! They already have the local Blackwell Academy under there thumb. Along with the police!"
She looks surprised. "Corruption within the police? I hope he's lying..." She thinks.
"Sir what do you mean "Corruption within the police.""
The fisherman stutters "Of course ma'am, they are just rumors.. but I wouldn't be surprised..."
She thanks him "Thank you sir for the information..."
The fisherman nods as she starts walking towards the diner. She approaches the swinging door and steps inside.
She feels the cool air hit her, compared to the 80, or so, degree air she had just felt. She took the chance to observe the diner.
On her left was a man sitting in a booth, eating some beans it looked like. A TV nearby was playing local news from TV station KBAY 7. Some truckers, it appeared, were sitting at the counter, getting served coffee by a middle aged woman. On her right at the far booth near the back looked to be a cop.
She walks toward the booth with the cop in it.
"I hope that your Officer Berry."
Officer Anderson Berry (as known in LIS), looked be maybe younger to middle aged, with brown hair and brown eyes. A definitely tired man. A pile of files next to him.
"That I am. You must be Agent Barns." They shake hands "Please take a seat."
"So Berry. Why couldn't we have met at the station."
"Because I am on patrol right now. I do not have very long. This may be the last time we communicate with one another in person."
"Berry, where is this coming from?"
"Here are some of the files from the disappearances. I made copies. Text me if you need info."
He steps up to leave. She grabs his arm. "He-"
"Berry. I heard some information before I entered this diner. Something about a certain Prescott."
Berry freezes. He reluctantly sits back down
"What have you heard..?" He asks shakingly
"That maybe the Prescotts have this entire town under there fucking thumb. Corruption within the ABPD?? Are you serious?" She whisper-yells at him
Berry sighes. "Look. What I tell you can't leave this place."
She nods. "The Prescotts do own the majority of this town. One way or another. Myself included."
She looks at him with a glare that could almost kill him where he sat.
"Look Sophia. I made a deal with Sean Prescott a long time ago to watch his son Nathan Prescott. One deal that if i could change, I would. This my way of giving them the finger. Please Sophia, help me, help this town."
She sighs "Ok, fine I will help."
He sighs with relief. "Good. Now the problem is the fact that since the Prescotts own this town, no one will help you. I can shield you for as long as I can but I can guarantee anything. The files are full of all the case info and notes. We have some suspects but you can piece it together."
She takes a look for a brief moment until Officer Berry's radio sounds
"Attention all units, a 10-85 has been reported at 456 W Estcourt Lane, any units in the area please respond code 2."
Berry looks at Sophia and says "Sorry I have to take this, thank you again."
Berry steps out from the booth and replies to his radio "This is unit 216, we are responding over.."
The police lights are seen flashing by the diner a few moments later and it allows her to look at the files once more.
"Hmm. It appears that the most recent person to dissappear was a girl named Rachel Amber.." She says out loud to herself quietly.
Joyce Price/Madsen, server of the Two Whales Diner, walks over to the booth.
"I am so sorry I took so long hon, can I get you started with something? Some coffee prehaps?"
Sophia gets startled by the woman but manages to keep her cool. "Uh..yeah..yes please."
"Alrighty, sounds good." Joyce peers down at the files on the table
"Your working on the disappearance of that poor girl aren't you?"
Sophia glances upwards "Yes I am, how'd you know?"
Joyce points to photo of Rachel Amber. "Her photo is all over town. Police have been running around for months looking for her. My daughter was friends with her. Good friends."
"Really? If you don't mind me asking, who is your daughter?"
Joyce looks annoyed "Now hold on a moment young lady, I don't even know who you are."
Sophia blushes "Sorry bout that ma'am." She flashes her badge "FBI Agent Barns. I'm investigating the disappearances here in Arcadia Bay."
"Well in that case I am Joyce Price. I obviously work here. My daughter, Chloe Price, was good friends with her when they went to Blackwell together." She exclaims
"Then Chloe got herself kicked out after Rachel went missing and well, I just dont know what to do with her.." Joyce sighes
"Thank you for telling me ma'am, I sure hope I can find out the answer behind these disappearances before anyone else goes missing. What does Chloe look like?"
Joyce pulls out a photo of her and shows it to Sophia. "Here she is, blue hair too, I think its just a phase but who knows."
Sophia studies the photo and hands it back to her.
Sophia writes all the info down in her notepad and closes it.
"Do you mind terribly if I get the coffee to go? I am super tired from the ride and need some sleep." Sophia tiredly laughs
Joyce smiles "Of course hon, here you are have a wonderful night!"
Sophia pays and walks out of the diner, with case files in one hand and the coffee cup in the other hand. She sets the coffee cup on the top of her car and opens the door. She sets the case files down onto the passenger side. She sighes as she grabs her coffee from the top of the car and drinks some of it.
She places it in the cup holder, closes the door and turns on the ignition. Sophia drives out from the parking lot and back out onto the road to a local hotel that she saw on her way to the diner.
30 minutes later..
Sophia flops down onto her bed. Exhausted by the days events.
She reviews everything she found out in the files in her head.
She saw some suspects in the files that may lead somewhere but she'd have to investigate further.
