Bandit and Li Shang both walk into the room.

Li Shang: Hope you've got a good singing voice, Bandit.

Bandit: I'll have you know that I could perform at the opera if I wanted to.

Both Bandit and Shang started to laugh a little.

Chapter Seven: I'll Make Dogs Out of You

The night quickly passed over the training camp and birds twittered as the sun rose on a new day. While most of the tents were together, one tent in particular stood alone while King stood outside of it. Inside the tent, Chili was sound asleep on a cot while Cri-Kee was sleeping peaceful in the scarf of the armor. The little bug's legs twitched as he dreamed. Suddenly, Cri-Kee's peace was disturbed when Mushu picked him up and started twisting his wings. The little insect's face grimaced in pain until Mushu held him next to Chili's face. Then releasing Cri-Kee's wings the little insect made the sounds of an alarm clock going off. It seemed to do the trick as Chili woke up and lifted her head to find Mushu with a big smile on his face, "All right! Rise and shine, Sleeping Beauty!

"Come on. Hup, hup, hup." The little dragon tried to coax her out of her bed while lightly knocking on her forehead. Chili groaned before laying down and trying to continue sleeping. Mushu responded by running to the she-dog's feet and yanking the blanket off of her. Chili shivered from having a source of warmth off of her. Not wanting to waste any time, Mushu urged, "Go and get your clothes on, now. Get yourself ready. I got breakfast ready."

"Look, you get porridge…" Chili sat up and opened her eyes just as Mushu, now in an apron around his waist, walked up with a bowl of rice in his hands. She looked into the bowl and saw that it had a couple of sunny side up eggs and a strip of bacon in a smiley face. He made it sound good by saying, "And it's very happy to see you."

Cri-Kee popped out of the porridge with a squeak. Mushu gasped and grabbed the bug with the chopsticks in his talons, "Hey, get outta there!" He flung Cri-Kee away and said, "You gonna go and make people sick."

"Am I late?" Chili asked as she scratched her head. Mushu's response was stuffing the food into her mouth and said, "No time for talking." He continued to stuff her mouth as he sounded like a parent, "Now remember, it's your first day of army training, so listen well to your teacher and no gettin' into fights, play nice with the other kids, unless, of course, one of the other kids, then you have to go and kick the other kid's butt."

"But I don't want to kick the other kid's butt." Chili protested with her mouth still stuff. Mushu seemed a little annoyed by that and lightly scolded, "Hey, don't go talking with your mouth full." Then with a smile he said, "Now let's see your war face."

Chili looked to him with food still in her mouth. An unimpressed Mushu shook his head, "Oh, I think that my bunny slippers just ran for cover.

"Come on!" Mushu said and dropped the bowl. Then grabbing her shirt he demanded, "I want you to scare me, girl."

Chili then got in his face with a growl and it made the dragon fall to the ground. Mushu laughed as he sat up and was now impressed, "That's my tough-lookin' warrior there.

"That's what I'm talkin' about." He said while rushed to help put some more of the makeup to make it look like she had whiskers. Then sitting on her shoulder he said, "Now, get out there and make me proud."

The sound of snorting made Chili and Mushu look out the tent's opening to see King leaning his head down. Chili started to get ready while Mushu understood the horse's neighs. King snorted before looking to the rest of the camp and then back at Mushu. This confused the dragon and he moved to Chili's shoulders and asked, "What do you mean that the troops just left?"

"They what?" Chili asked in shock after she started to get her Gi on over her night clothes. The tent fell as Chili rushed to finish getting herself ready. She slipped out and tied the belt around her waist before running to catch up with the others. Mushu gave muffled shouts as he dragged Chili's sword from underneath the tent and called out, "Wait! Wait! You forgot your sword!"

But a big smile adorned the little red dragon's face as he felt a sense of pride welling up in his chest. Cri-Kee hopped to Mushu's end of the sword and they watched Chili run off. Mushu's lip started to tremble, "My little baby, off to destroy people."

He started to cry and whimpered a little and Cri-Kee patted the dragon's snout. Mushu took a deep breath and said, "Come on. Let's find us a good vantage point."

Mushu dropped the sword and ripped the apron off as he ran to go watch. Cri-Kee squeaked and followed after the dragon.

Deep in the camp, the trainees were gathered about to get the day started. And, as boys will be boys, they were a bit rowdy as some slightly fought with each other and others shouted rambunctiously. They were brought out of their activities when Ar Fe came walking by. He tapped his little board with his brush and shouted, "Order. People, order."

"I'd like a pan-fried noodle." A dog sitting on another dog's shoulders shouted to the Bulldog. Rad lifted his paw and placed an order, "Sweet and pungent shrimp, mate."

"Moo goo gai pan." Another shouted and everyone busted out laughing. The only one not laughing was Ar Fe as he said like a child, "That's not funny at all."

They laughed as he walked off. As they continued to laugh, Pat happened to look to the edge of the group. Slapping Stripe to get his and everyone's attention he said aloud, "Looks like our new friend went and slept in this morning."

The laughter of the crowd died down as they looked to Chili with annoyed looks. Their stares made Chili walk a little faster past them. Pat said to her as she passed by, "Hello, Jackie." Chili smiled from the greeting, but it fell when he said, "Are ya hungry?"

"Yeah…" Stripe agreed as he remembered the previous day. While Chili was about to say something clever to Pat, Stripe grabbed her shirt as he said, "Because I'm owing you a knuckle sandwich."

While Rad didn't think this was necessary, Pat and the other dogs agreed with Stripe. A worried Chili covered her face when Stripe prepared to punch her. But before any fists could be thrown, the voice of their commanding officer shouted, "Soldiers!"

They looked to see their captain walking over wearing an opened shirt. They all moved to stand in a straight line. Bandit walked up to a barrel containing training staves, a bow and a quiver of arrows. Chili had to poke her head around the other dogs to see what was going on. Removing his shirt and placing it on the barrel, Bandit glanced back and said, "You will all assemble swiftly and silently every morning."

Grabbing the bow and the quiver, Bandit walked past the troops and warned, "Anyone who decides to act otherwise will answer to me."

"Ooh." An unimpressed Stripe said. Both Pat and Rad looked to their fellow trainee when he added, "Tough guy."

"Stripe." Bandit said and readied his bow with an arrow. Turning to the surprised dog in question he pulled the arrow back. All the other dogs and Chili took a big step back and revealed a nervous looking Stripe. But instead of shooting at the Blue Heeler, Bandit lifted the bow before releasing the arrow through the air. The arrow flew through the air before landing at the top of the tall pole in the middle of the camp. With a grin Bandit somewhat sarcastically said, "Thank you for volunteering." Then he ordered, "Retrieve the arrow."

Stripe looked to his commander before complying with a bow. He cracked his knuckles and grumbled, "I'll go and get that arrow, pretty boy." He turned to the pole before glancing back to the captain and adding, "And I'll be doing it with my shirt on."

Stripe marched right up to the pole and looked up to the arrow at the top. But just as he got ready to start climbing, Bandit walked over and said, "One moment." An annoyed Stripe looked to Bandit as the captain said, "You seem to be missing something important."

Ar Fe walked over with a heavy box in his hands. Bandit opened the box and removed two weights with leather bands attached to it. Taking a slightly surprised Stripe's paw, Bandit placed the band over it before lifting the appendage. Looking to the troops he said, "This here represents discipline…"

Bandit allowed the paw and weight drop and it caused Stripe to kneel a little before he straightened himself. Then he moved to Stripe's other side and repeated the process. He lifted the left paw a little higher and said, "And this one represents strength."

Bandit released Stripe's paw and the Blue Heeler fell to the ground with a thud. Him falling caused a few of the other soldiers to start silently laughing. Stripe picked himself up as Bandit instructed, "You're going to need both to reach the arrow."

Stripe shot Bandit a look before registering what the other Blue Heeler just said. A now unsure Stripe looked to the weights on his arms before looking up at the arrow at the top of the pole. With the weights on his arms, Stripe was feeling that the arrow was a little further out of reach. But he decided that he would at least try. He leapt up on the pole and started to climb up it. Stripe climbed up a good deal before the heaviness of the weights started to drag him down. Stripe started to slide back down and tried to stop himself by biting into the pole. But all it ended up doing was hurting his teeth as he slid the rest of the way down and scrapped some of the bark off. His bum landed on the ground hard and looked down at his sore muzzle as the sounds of drums came to the reader.

The rest of troops gave it a shot. While most just simply fell off the pole, Pat ended up falling backwards and hitting his head against the pole before falling to the ground. Rad ended up falling off the pole and landed on his back with a yelp. Chili fell and landed on her rear and glanced up the pole. She picked herself up and rubbed her aching backside as she walked past Bandit. The Blue Heeler watched her go and rubbed the back of his neck as he said, "Looks like we've got a long way to go."

Grabbing a few staves out of the barrel, Bandit tossed them to the troops. One by one, each of the dogs were able to catch their staff. But just as Chili was about to grab hers, Stripe grabbed it and shot a smug look at her. An annoyed Chili placed her hands on her hips just as he moved the staff behind her and tripped her up. Chili fell to the ground with a thud and Stripe dropped the staff with a smirk as she shot him another look.

Holding his own staff horizontally in front of him, Bandit had a stern look and started singing…

Bandit: Let's get down to business

With his staff, Bandit flung to clay vases up into the air. All the trainees watched in awe as the Blue Heeler spun his staff around.

Bandit: To defeat the Huns

With precise jabs as the vases came down, Bandit was able to smash them before they reached the ground. He finished by pointing to the trainees and they responded by holding their staves just like Bandit did…

Bandit: Did they send me daughters

When I asked for sons?

Pat was quick to walk up behind Chili and held a beetle in his paw. Very sneakily, he was able to place the beetle into Chili's training uniform and took a step back. Chili grimaced when she felt the bug moving inside her uniform and started moving all crazily. She ended up hitting the other trainees including the one who put the bug into her uniform. From their vantage point, Mushu face palmed when he saw all the trainees fall from the crazily moving Chili. Seeing what was happening, Bandit moved to pole-vault over the fallen trainees…

Bandit: You're the saddest bunch I have ever met

But you can bet before we're through

All the fallen soldiers watched in amazement as Bandit somersaulted over them. When he landed by Chili, he tried to get close to her but was whacked in the gut by her staff. He was able to dodge a high swing before grabbing the staff away from her…

Bandit: Mister I'll make a dog

From the vantage point, Mushu wasn't taking too kindly to how Bandit was treating her. Luckily, Cri-Kee was able to keep the dragon from going down there by grabbing his tail. Down on the field, Bandit grabbed Chili's shirt and said to the nervous looking she-dog…

Out of you

From the side, Ar Fe wrote something down on his little board. Later, Bandit led all the trainees to a different location in the forest. He stood before a large tree that had white circles as targets painted onto it. Sitting at his foot was a small board of wood. Removing the bow from his shoulder and readying a few arrows, Bandit stepped on the board and launched a few fruits into the air. He released the arrow and they were able to hit all three fruits dead on before striking the side of the tree where the targets were. He stepped back to allow the other soldiers to have a shot. But their arrows missed both the fruits and the tree entirely…

Bandit: Tranquil as a forest

But on fire within

When Chili stepped up to try, she was surprised when Mushu popped out of her quiver and placed a fruit on the end. He ducked into the bag when Chili glanced back to see Bandit walk up to her. He didn't seem impressed or pleased when he saw the fruit on the end of her arrow. Bandit gave her a stern look and Chili looked to him with a nervous smile.

Bandit led everyone to a more mountainous area. He stood at the edge of a cliff with his staff in his hands and a bucket of water on his head. He stood straight up and some of the trainees threw rocks at him. Bandit was able to block all the stones on his head without allowing the bucket of water to fall from his head…

Bandit: Once you find your center

You are sure to win

The one to take the bucket and staff was Chili when she was pushed forward by Pat and Stripe. She bit her lip as she was ready with her bucket on her head and staff in her heads. While Rad didn't seem too keen on throwing his rock, both Stripe and Pat seemed a little more enthusiastic as they prepared to throw theirs.

Bandit: You're a spineless, pale pathetic lot

And you haven't got a clue

When the rocks started flying, Chili moved and the bucket ended up falling on her head. Thought the water drenched her from head to toe, she was able to blindly avoid all the stones coming at her and even managed to deflect one back. Bandit, Stripe, Pat and Rad were able to avoid the rock and the captain looked to Chili with an unimpressed look. Chili raised the bucket and looked to the group…

Bandit: Somehow I'll make a dog

Out of you

Bandit took some of the trainees down to a river where some fish were swimming by. With a quick strike of his paw, Bandit was able to catch one of the fish. Nearby, Stripe and Chili were attempting the same thing. But when a smiling Chili struck the water, she came up with Stripes foot in her paw. She looked down to see a bewildered Stripe in the water and sheepishly placed the foot back into the water. She was surprised when Mushu came swimming up with a fish in his talons and offered it to her.

The rest of the first week seemed to be as disastrous for the trainees. One night, some of the trainees including both Stripe and Rad were fearfully running for their lives in a field as flaming arrows were being shot.

Radley: I'm never gonna catch my breath

Stripe: Say goodbye to those who knew me

While Rad was able to make it through, Stripe ended up tripping. It ended badly for him as a flaming arrow struck him in the butt. The searing pain made the Blue Heeler jump high into the air and clutch his backside as he screamed.

Pat: Boy, was I a fool in school for cutting gym

The next day, Pat was preparing to break a block of stone. But it ended up hurting him when he smacked it. He shakily rose back up as a few teeth fell out and he fell onto his back. Elsewhere, Chili was going over a few techniques with Bandit. While she was able to duck under a swing from his arm, a palm to the face sent her flying. She smacked into a tree with her eye stinging. Mushu and Cri-Kee came to help as the former was quick to use a towel to rinse here off with the latter fanned her with a leaf. Mushu looked in Bandit's direction with a glare…

Mushu: This dog's got 'em scared to death

Chili: Hope he doesn't see right through me

Mushu hopped behind her and pushed her back up with his legs. She got up to keep training. The next exercise had the troops going over a series of logs standing in the middle of a raging river. Rad was the first and was a little nervous as he crossed. But him hesitating caused everyone behind him to end up falling into the river…

Radley: Now I really wish that I knew how to swim

The next training exercise was to teach the troops how to use cannons. Some flint was struck against a stone and the sparks hit the wick. A moment later, the cannons were fired at a makeshift target of John Blitz. The dragon heads flew right towards the target but ended up hitting everything besides the target…

Dogs: Be a dog

Bandit: We must swift as a coursing river

Dogs: Be a dog

Bandit: With all the force of a great typhoon

Pat came walking up to Chili just as she was lighting her cannon. But just as the fuse was lit, he kicked the stand for the cannon away. Chili grabbed it and held the head of the cannon skyward. She looked down at the fuse just before it was shot.

Dogs: Be a dog

Bandit: With all the strength of a raging fire

Dogs: Be a dog

Bandit: Mysterious as the dark side of the moon

The projectile ended up flying towards camp and right towards Ar Fe's tent. The Bulldog had just stepped out when the projectile crashed into the tent and exploded. A singed Ar Fe looked back with an annoyed look just as his mustache burned a little.

As the training day ended, Bandit was sitting up on a rock. He looked down at the camp, feeling a little unsure of the rest of the training program.

The next day, while Ar Fe was riding on the back of a horse, Bandit and the trainees were carrying two weights on a long stick. Ar Fe happened to stop and Bandit stopped to see what was up. Without words, Ar Fe pointed to the back of the group.

Bandit: Time is racing towards us

Till the Huns arrive

He looked back to see a tired looking Chili struggling to keep up. She ended up falling to the ground. Both Mushu and Cri-Kee rushed to try and help her back to her feet but were having trouble. They looked back with worried glances as Bandit came walking to them. Both Mushu and Cri-Kee hid in Chili's training uniform. Chili worriedly looked up when Bandit took her training equipment and giving her a disappointed look.

Bandit: heed my every order

And you might survive

She watched him quicky rejoin the rest of the trainees. Chili's head dropped in shame as she knew that she was failing. Later that evening, a disheartened Chili was walking through the camp. She looked up to see Bandit approaching her with King's reins in his paws. He sang what he was thinking…

Bandit: You're unsuited for the rage of war

So pack up, go home, you're through

He handed her the reins and turned to leave. He sounded disappointed when he sang…

Bandit: How could I

Make a Man

Out of you?

But as she was starting leave, Chili stopped by the pole from the first day of training. Deciding to give it one last go, Chili got the weights from the box next to the box next to the pole and put them onto her arms. She jumped onto the pole, but the weights instantly dragged her back down to the ground. Chili winced from the slight pain before looking up to the top of the pole. Then looking at one of the weights she got an idea. She stood back up and threw her arms around the pole and it made the weights tie around each other.

Dogs: Be a dog

Bandit: We must be swift as a coursing river

When she was sure that it was firmly secured, Chili started to climb up the pole. The sun started to rise and so did the soldiers from their tents. Rad was one of the first few to emerge from their tent and saw Chili climbing up the tall pole.

Dogs: Be a dog

Bandit: With all the force of a great typhoon

Soon, everyone was out of their tents and saw Chili nearing the top. They became very worried when she slipped a little. But Chili Redler was able to keep her grip and continued to pull herself up the pole. Everyone down below was watching in amazement as she kept on going.

Dogs: Be a dog

Bandit: With all the strength of a raging fire

Mysterious as the dark side

Of the Moon

Bandit emerged from his tent and was preparing for another day of training when he was surprised when the arrow hit the ground just a few feet from his tent. He looked up to see Chili sitting on top of the pole with the weights on her shoulder. Down on the ground, all the other trainees were cheering for their fellow soldier. She waved to Bandit with a smile.

Dogs: Be a dog

We must be swift as a coursing river

The training seemed to turn around after that. The trainees were able to hit their targets with their arrows. Chili was able to keep up better with the others when they did the exercise from the day before again.

Dogs: Be a dog

With all the force of a great typhoon

Bandit was once again training one on one with Chili again. But this time it went differently when she ducked. She was able to counter it with a kick to the face. Bandit was knocked onto his back and rubbed his chin as he was now impressed with her.

They went back across the poles of the river again, but this time, Rad was doing cartwheels with great precision and agility. Later, Bandit once again tossed staves to the soldiers.

Dogs: Be a man

With all the strength of a raging fire

Mysterious as the dark side

Of the Moon

Everyone caught it and Stripe caught Chili's as well. But instead of tripping her up like the last time, he handed it to her with a smile. Chili smiled back as she took her staff from him. They all moved with fluid motions with each other as they practiced. Stripe was able to run across the field of flaming arrows without a single one touching him. The soldiers all followed the same motions as they kicked high. Pat and a few others were able to break through the blocks with one fluid motion of their heads. All the soldiers followed up by slamming their sticks against the ground. Chili and the others were able to catch a few fish with their own two paws. At last, a cannon was able to hit its target and destroyed the John Blitz target. They finished by jumping high into the air and kicking out with their right leg.

Shang: Okay, okay, I will admit that that was pretty good.

Extending his hand: Nice job, Bandit.

Bandit, taking the paw: Thanks. I had some pretty good inspiration.

Shang and Bandit both smile before turning to the audience: See ya!

Author's Note: And we're gonna stop the chapter here. The next chapter is going to a bit longer than how it went in the movie. Mostly because I felt like that Shang's father should have had a bit more screen time. I want show everything, but I will do my best to keep it entertaining. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
