InuKagLove22: Thank you so much! I am so glad that you liked it!
Anonymous Reader: I can hear your excitement! Lol THEY GOT ENGAGED! But wait until you read below! I can hear the Dizzy squeals already! I hope you like it!
Creator of Magic: Hello! They are finally together. And he got 20 because of the physical harm he did to Melody. In those cases it can be 10 to 20 years. (My random knowledge lol) I have thought about it, and am thinking of writing a confrontation about it. That may be in my final chapter.
Agdahl.M: Thank you so much! I am so glad that you like my stories enough to reread them! I am hopefully going to be uploading more soon, but I do work 40 hours a week and have school, but school is almost out for Christmas and then I just have work until next semester. But anyway! I hope you like this update and please let me know what you think.
ENJOY!
"Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" Melody yelled as she started to jump on Ben and Mal's bed. "Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!"
Mal and Evie groaned. Today was Ben and Mal's wedding, and no one was excited more than Jackson and Melody.
"Melody, baby," Evie said as she sat up to look at her goddaughter. "Auntie Evie needs to sleep, because if she doesn't she is going to be very cranky."
"I'm sorry, but mommy and Benny are getting married today!" She said as she jumped on both of them.
Mal smiled before she sat up and took Melody into her arms. Today, she and Ben were going to get married, but not only that. Today is the day where they were going to officially sign to adopt Melody and Jackson. Their family was officially going to be whole, not that it wasn't already, but it was going to be nice to live happily ever after.
"Can I wake up Benny and Jackson?"
"Yes," Evie groaned as she turned to bury her face into the pillow. "But, make sure your dad doesn't see your mom before the wedding."
"Yes, ma'am," Melody said as she jumped off the bed, opened the door, and left.
Mal started to get excited. She laid back down, and turned to face Evie. Evie could feel Mal staring at her, so she turned to see Mal's giant smile, before she laughed.
"Okay," Evie groaned. "Let's go downstairs, because I can smell your dad cooking, but you have to make sure that you and Ben don't see each other."
The two walked down the hall, heading down for breakfast when Jackson's bedroom door opened, and Ben took a step out.
"Nope," Evie said as she shoved him back in. "You stay in there, Benjamin," she said as she closed the door.
"It's my house," Ben said, making Mal laugh and shake her head.
"You cannot see Mal before the wedding," Evie argued.
"Can I at least let my kids out so they can go with you?" He asked.
"Yes," Evie said with a nod.
The door opened, and Melody and Jackson walked out laughing.
"Mommy!" They both yelled as they ran and wrapped their arms around Mal.
"Hi," she said with a bright smile as she bent down to be eye level with them.
"How is it fair that the kids get to see her, but I don't?" Ben asked with the door cracked open. "I have seen her before."
"The rule is, the groom is not supposed to see the bride before the wedding, not that bride's kids," Evie said as she turned toward the cracked door.
"Still," he said through the door. "It's not fair that I can't walk around my own house."
"I'm sorry, babe," Mal said a little louder so that he could hear her. "I know it's a pain in the ass, but I'm going to be taking my food in our room, so you can walk around."
"I don't want you to be trapped in the room all day," he said.
"I'm going to be trapped regardless," she said with a chuckle. "Evie has to do my makeup and hair."
"Mine too!" Melody shouted as she started to jump up and down.
"Yes, yours too," Mal said as she smiled down at her daughter.
"Okay," they heard Ben say. "Just text me when you're in the room."
"Okay," Mal said as she took both Jackson and Melody's hand. "I love you."
"I love you too," he said, before he closed the door.
"Let's go mommy," Melody said as she and Jackson started to pull her arms. "I can smell papa's pancakes."
The four of them walked down to see Haden, Belle, Adam, and Doug sitting around the island counter laughing and talking.
"Good morning," Evie said as she walked over to Doug and kissed his cheek.
"Good morning, Mrs. Anderson," Belle said as she smiled brightly at Mal.
Mal chuckled and her cheeks flushed red, hearing her soon to be new last name.
"Mommy?" Melody said as she tugged at Mal's sleeve.
"Yes, baby," Mal said as she looked down at Melody.
"Is my last name going to be Anderson too?"
"If you want it to be," Mal said. "After today, Ben is going to be your dad, you can be an Anderson if you want."
"Can I?" She asked. "I mean, I like Drakos, but I want to be an Anderson like you, Jackson, and dad."
"Of course," Mal said. "When we get back from our honeymoon, daddy and I will go and get all of the paperwork to change your name legally," she said with a kind smile.
"Now, Melody Anderson," Haden said as he picked her up off the ground. "What do you say about helping me make your mommy a plate so that auntie Evie can start to get her ready?"
"Okay," Melody said as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Auntie Evie?" Jackson said, making Evie look down to him. "Do you want a plate too, since you are going to be with mommy all day? I can make you one."
"I would love that," Evie said as she pulled the almost 8-year-old into her arms.
When she let go, Jackson rushed over to Adam and helped him make a plate for Evie. Once they had a plate and coffee, Mal and Evie walked back toward Ben and Mal's room. Mal texted Ben to let him know that they were back in the room, and that he could walk around the house. He walked downstairs to see everyone eating and laughing with the kids.
"Good morning, everyone," he said as he walked over to his mom and kissed her cheek.
"Good morning," everyone said in unison, making him chuckle.
"How are you feeling?" Doug asked as he drank from his mug.
"I'm getting excited," Ben said with a giant smile. "I can't wait to see her."
"Mommy is going to look very pretty," Melody said as she took a big bite of her pancake.
Ben looked over at her, and smiled when he saw the syrup on her nose and cheeks. He walked over, before grabbing a napkin, and whipping her sticky face.
"Your face is sticky," he said as he poked her cheek.
"It's okay," Melody said. "Jackson's is covered in chocolate," she laughed as she pointed at her brother from across the table.
When Ben looked to see where Melody was pointing, he saw Jackson eating a pancake that was smothered in syrup and chocolate.
"You, kid," he said as he pointed to Jackson. "Are going to take a shower when you are done eating breakfast."
"Yes, sir," Jackson said as he smiled at his dad.
"When is Jay and everyone else going to be here?" Adam asked as he sat next to Melody and put another pancake on her plate.
The doorbell rang, making Ben smile.
"Speak the devil's name and he shall appear," Ben said, before he walked to the door, and opened it.
Jay, Lonnie, Carlos, and Jane were standing on the other side of the door with bright smiles on their faces.
"Good morning, mister married man," Jane said as she rushed in and hugged Ben tightly.
"Not yet, Janey, but soon," he said as he returned the hug.
"Potato tomato," she said, making everyone laugh.
"Make way. Make way," Jay said as he walked over and wrapped an arm around Ben's neck. "Best man coming through."
Ben shook his head and laughed. He knew it wasn't a choice, having Jay as his best man. They had been friends for years. Ben wouldn't have it any other way.
"Now, where is the blushing bride?" He asked.
"She is upstairs in our room," Ben said as he pointed to the stairs. "Evie is keeping me from seeing her."
"Well, that is the rules," Lonnie said as he patted Ben's shoulder. "But, they don't say anything about Jane and I seeing her," she said, before she grabbed Jane's hand and ran up the stairs.
"This is not fair," Ben said as he stared off at where Lonnie and Jane went.
"Yeah," Carlos said as he walked over to Ben. "You're marrying Mal. Life is never going to be fair again."
Ben laughed before he, Jay, and Carlos walked into the kitchen to join everyone else.
"Mommy?" Melody said as she knocked on the bedroom door, and peaked her head in. "Wow," she said as she spotted her mom sitting at the vanity in the room.
Mal was almost ready. Her hair was twisted back into a halfback. Her makeup was minimal, but was stunning nonetheless. The golden glitter on her eyes, made her green eyes stand out. Her lips were plump and a dusty rose. Her cheeks were pale pink. And her eyelashes were long and full.
"You look pretty, mommy," Melody said, making Mal turn to look at her.
"Aw," Mal said as she held her arms out for Melody. "Thank you, Melody," Mal said as Melody ran into her mother's arms.
"Are you ready for auntie Evie to do your hair?"
"Yeah," Melody said as nodded her head vigorously. "Can I have glitter on my eyes too?"
"Yes," Mal said as she nodded her head and laughed. "Now, let's hurry. We only have about thirty minutes."
Ben was buttoning his cuffs when he saw Jackson trying to tie his bowtie. He was getting a little frustrated and was huffing.
"Here," Ben said as he walked over and knelt down in front of Jackson. "Let me help you."
Ben started to tie Jackson's bowtie, when he felt this feeling of dejavu. He felt that he had done this before, but in a different scene, and then he remembered that he was in almost the same predicament just over a year ago, when he met Mal. Jackson's frustration and not knowing how to tie his shoes was almost the same as what was happening now. He smiled at the memory, and was very happy with how things turned out after that day. He finished tying Jackson's bowtie, and then straightened it before helping him button up his vest.
"We're almost ready," Ben said as he stood up. "Why don't…" he started, but stopped when there was a soft knock at the door.
Ben looked over to see Melody half standing in the doorway, in an off white satin dress that came just below her knees. It was a unique dress. The skirt of the dress had tulle with sewn-in purple petals. There was a sash that went around her waist, and it was tied with a matching purple faux flower sitting on the side of her stomach.
"Now, don't you look pretty," Ben said as he walked over and knelt down in front of Melody.
"Thank you," she said shyly as her cheeks started to turn red. "Mommy looks pretty too."
"I bet she does," he said as he smiled at his daughter.
His daughter. Man he felt good thinking and saying it. He never thought that he would have a wife or a daughter. He was always too busy with work and Jackson that he didn't have time or the need to go out and date, but here he was, getting married and getting a daughter. What could make this day any better? The door opened, and Belle was now standing behind Melody. She smiled when she saw Ben in his suit. This is all she ever wanted for him, to be happy.
"Are you ready?" She asked as she started to tear up.
"Don't cry, mom," Ben said as he stood and hugged her.
"I can't help it," Belle said as she hugged onto her son. "I am so happy for you. For the four of you."
Ben pulled away and smiled at his mom, before kissing her on her cheek.
"Here," she said as she wiped her eyes and swiped her hand on his shoulder. "I want to get a picture of you and the kids."
Jackson walked over as Ben knelt back down. Both kids hugged on his side, and smiled brightly as Belle took more than just one picture.
"Can we take one with mommy too?" Melody asked.
"Your dad can't," Belle said as she looked up at Ben to see a big smile on his face. "But, I think if we are quick, I can take a couple of pictures of the both of you with her."
They left just as Jay walked into the room with his suit and hair pulled back into a bun.
"You ready man?" Jay asked as he walked over to Ben and held his hand out.
Ben nodded his head before he put Mal's wedding band in Jay's hand and smiled at him.
"I couldn't be more ready," he said before he and Jay walked out of Jackson's room and closed the door behind them.
The wedding was small and in the backyard of their brand new home. It was a very small wedding, only consisting of friends and family. Adam, Belle, Haden, Jay, Carlos, Evie, Lonnie, Jane, Melody's kindergarten teacher Audrey Rogers, her husband and the kid's principal Gillian Rogers, and Mal's cousin Uma. They had even invited Tommy and Cassie's families too. Mal had grown close to Melody's teacher throughout the school semester, and they even had brunch a couple of times throughout the weekends. Uma wasn't around much, but she and Mal had always been close. It was just hard to see each other when Uma was overseas, but she dropped everything when she heard that Mal was getting married, because she was not going to miss that for the world.
Everyone was seated, except for Ben, Jay, Evie, and Doug. Jay was Ben's best man, Evie was Mal's maid of honor, and Doug was officiating the wedding. Ben was swaying side to side, getting even more anxious by the minute. Music started to play, and Ben looked up to see Jackson and Melody walking from the house. He smiled as he watched them. They were shy, even though they were around friends and family, but all eyes were on them right now. When they had gotten to the front, Ben knelt down and hugged both of the kids. They both started to jump up and down in excitement, before Ben gestured them to go and sit down with his parents. He watched them as they rushed over and Jackson sat next to Belle, while Melody sat on Adam's lap.
The music changed, making Ben turn his head to see Mal and Haden standing about five yards away from where he was standing, and he almost went weak in the knees. Mal looked so beautiful in her wedding dress. It was an ivory fitted crepe skirt that fell from the waist, creating a figure-hugging silhouette. It has a squared neckline and an open back. Her hair was pulled back into a half back with side pieces falling to frame her face, and it was curled with a simple veil sitting on the top of her head. She smiled as she made eye contact with Ben, and then her dad squeezed her hand. Everyone stood as Mal walked down the aisle, but Mal didn't take her eyes off of Ben the entire time. When they stopped in front of Doug and Ben, Ben stepped forward and held his hand out for Haden to shake.
"Take care of my girls, Ben," he said as he pulled Ben's hand and hugged him.
"Always," Ben said as he pulled away and looked back at Mal.
Haden kissed Mal's cheek before placing her hand in Ben's, and walking over to sit with Carlos. Ben and Mal had smiled plastered on their faces, before Mal gave Evie her bouquet and turned back to take Ben's hand into hers.
"Ladies and gents, we're here today because Mallory and Benjamin have said to one another, 'Honey, I love you so much I've just gotta get the government involved!'" Doug said, making everyone laugh. "Seriously, though. Thank you all so much for joining us," he said as he looked between Ben and Mal. "Mal and Ben have asked that this be a fun ceremony, so we're here to have a good time these next few minutes while we get this hitching done, then we'll all have even more fun when we get to the reception. This thing isn't gonna start itself, so let's get to it!" He asked, making everyone laugh again.
Both Mal and Ben looked at each other while laughing. They had wanted Doug to officiate because he would make it fun and tasteful.
"We hold marriage up as a tradition in this country, and we've debated over it a lot in the last few decades, but at the end of the day, why do we do it? I made the joke in the intro about loving each other so much we're going to get the government involved, but is that all it really is? Of course not! It's a tradition, yes, but we change traditions all the time, and we keep the essence of those traditions alive in their new forms. So nowadays marriage isn't what it used to be when Ralph Kramden promised to knock his loving wife Alice "straight to the moon!" night after night in the fifties - Ben you're definitely not allowed to do that. At all. And neither are you, Mal. Nobody is allowed to knock anybody straight to the moon, no matter how hairy things get," he said, making Mal and Ben shake their heads and laugh.
"Ahh… There it is. The crux of why we do this marriage thing," he said as he held his hands out to Ben and Mal. "Sure, it's a lot of work. Sure it takes a lot of compromise. But at the end of the day, when you're married, you've got someone to come home to. You've got someone who's promised to love you no matter how smelly your socks get, or no matter how bad your mood is, or no matter what the universe decided to drop on your head this week. And you've got someone to have spaghetti fights in the kitchen with. Well, and the kids," he said, making Jackson and Melody laugh out loud. "Someone to laugh at the same silly inside jokes with. After a while, you'll find you've even got someone you share a little inside language with," he said as Ben squeezed Mal's hands, making her look at him and smile.
"We do marriage because it helps to have someone around to walk through life with," he said before he paused and turned slightly to Ben. "Ben, Mal, I can't think of two people more suited through life together than you. In the time we've gotten to know each other, except you Mal because I'm dating your sister," he said, making her laugh. "You've certainly both made me smile, and I've seen that your marriage will be built on a foundation of love and trust, and that's the best shot any of us can give it. You'll need to depend on that foundation of trust and of love throughout your marriage. You'll need to be more patient than you've ever had to be before. You'll experience higher highs, and lower lows than ever before, but now you'll be in it together - for good," he said.
Both Ben and Mal had to fight the urge not to kiss right now, but it was getting harder, and they still had to get through their vows.
"With that in mind, let's check some legal boxes, shall we?" He asked with a smirk on his face. "Ben, do you take Mal to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love and comfort her for better or worse, in sickness and health, and reap any and all tax benefits for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do," Ben said as he smiled down at Mal.
"Mal, do you take Ben to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love and comfort him for better or worse, in sickness and health, and reap any and all tax benefits for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do."
"Great! Now, I believe that the couple has their own words they would like to say to each other, so make it snappy. Ladies first."
"I love you with my whole heart with a passion that can't be expressed in words, only in kisses, glances, and years of adventure by your side," Mal said as she took a step closer to Ben. "I promise to be your honest, faithful, and loving wife for the rest of my days. I pledge to honor you, love you and cherish you as my husband today and every day. Today I say, "I do" but to me that means, "I will". I will take your hand and stand by your side in the good and the bad. I dedicate myself to your happiness, success, and smile. I will love you forever. You are my every dream come true, and I can't wait for the reality we get to build together. I promise to be your guiding light in the darkness, a warming comfort in the cold, and a shoulder to lean on when life is too much to bear on your own."
Ben had to try really hard to not kiss her, but thankfully Doug chimed in.
"That was so sweet, I think I got a cavity," he said. "Now, your turn Ben."
"Today I join my life to yours, not simply as your husband, but as your friend, your lover, and your biggest supporter. Give me your bad hair days, your long commutes, your burnt coffee, and lost keys. Give me your everyday, and I will give you my love to make it alright. Let me be the shoulder you lean on and the companion of your life. With this ring I promise you that you'll never have to face the world alone. I promise to be there to catch you if you stumble, carry you over every threshold, and fall in love with you every day. I pledge today to have all the patience and passion that love demands. In the laughter and in the silence, I'll be forever by your side. You're everything that I ever dreamed of and everything I will ever need. Our love for each other is heaven sent. Today I vow to be here with you and for you, forever and always."
"Okay," Doug said as he pushed Ben away from Mal just a little bit. "Let's start getting things wrapped up before they kiss," he said, making everyone laugh.
"Ben, now it's time to, as Beyoncé would say, put a ring on it. Repeat after me, please. Mal, I give you this ring as a symbol that I will love you, honor you, cherish you, and that I'll let you have the remote every once in a while, and I'll try to clean up after myself."
"Mal, I give you this ring as a symbol that I will love you, honor you, cherish you, and that I'll let you have the remote every once in a while, and I'll try to clean up after myself," Ben said as he slipped her wedding band onto her ring finger and next to her engagement ring.
"Alright, Mal, it's your turn. Repeat after me, please. Ben, I give you this ring as a symbol that I will love you, honor you, cherish you, and that I'll try not to nag you about spending too much time with Jay, and I may even make you dinner once in a while."
"Ben, I give you this ring as a symbol that I will love you, honor you, cherish you, and that I'll try not to nag you about spending too much time with Jay, and I may even make you dinner once in a while, even though I do that regardless," she said with a chuckle as she slipped his wedding ring onto his lady ring finger.
"Well, after that touching exchange, I guess there's only one thing left to do, and that's for me to do my part!" He said before he raised his hands up into the air. "By the power vested in me by the state of New York and , I now pronounce you husband and wife."
Ben and Mal had enormous smiles on their faces, and couldn't believe that they were married.
"Well, go on, kiss her!"
Ben grabbed the sides of Mal's face, crushing his lips to hers. They were husband and wife, and they were over the moon.
"Ladies and gents," Doug said as Ben deepened their kiss. "It gives me great pleasure to present to you Mr. and Mrs. Anderson!"
Everyone stood up and cheered for the newlyweds, but Jackson and Melody ran over and threw their arms around their parents. Ben and Mal broke apart, and laughed before Ben scooped both the kids up in his arms.
"We just have one more thing to do," he said.
"What?" They asked as they looked between their parents.
Doug walked up to them with two documents and two pens in his hands. Ben placed the kids down before Doug handed Mal and Ben each a document. They each signed it, before switching and signing the other. They both passed the documents to Doug, before looking back at the kids.
"Do you know what we just did?" Mal asked as she crouched down.
"What?" They asked.
"We just signed the papers so I could adopt Melody and Mal could adopt Jackson," he said as they started to get excited. "You know what that means right?"
"You're my daddy!" Melody exclaimed before she jumped into Ben's arms.
"And you're my mom!" Jackson said before he did the same with Mal.
The family of four enjoys a small moment embracing one another before they are joined by their family and friends.
After their guest had left, Ben, Mal, Jackson, and Melody were getting the kids bags ready to stay with Belle and Adam.
"When are you going to be back?" Melody asked as she hugged her stuffed Pua.
"We are going to be back in two weeks," Ben said as he picked her up into his arms.
"Why can't we go again?" Jackson asked as he flopped onto Melody's bed with his backpack on his back.
"Because this is just a trip for your dad and I," Mal said as she laid down next to him and started to brush her fingers through his hair. "But, we are going to be back just in time for your birthday."
"Yep," Ben said as he sat down next to Mal with Melody still in his arms. "We're going to miss you guys a lot, but we'll be back before you know it."
"Okay," Jackson said as he laid his head down on Mal's lap.
A knock at the door, made the four of them turn to see Belle and Adam standing in the doorway.
"Hey," Adam said. "We should get going before you two miss your flight."
Both Ben and Mal nodded before Ben got up and gave Melody to his dad. Jackson gave Mal a hug before he walked over and took Belle's hand. As they walked out of the room, closing the door behind them, they walked downstairs to the living room where Ben and Mal's bags were waiting.
"Bye mom and dad," Melody said as she and Jackson waved to them as they walked out of the house and toward Adam and Belle's car.
"Bye," Ben and Mal waved as they placed their bags into their Uber. "We'll call you tomorrow."
Ben and Mal got into their Uber, and drove off from their kids and Ben's parents. Ben didn't tell Mal where they were going to be going for their honeymoon, and it was making her very anxious.
"Can I know now?" She asked as she turned toward him.
"Nope," he said with a smirk on his face.
"Ugh!" She groaned as she looked at her husband.
He chuckled before he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her close to him.
"You will just have to be patient, my dear wife," he said as he kissed the top of her head. "But I promise that it will be worth the wait."
Throughout the entire ride Mal kept on asking Ben to tell her where they were going, but he kept telling her no. He even kept their tickets hidden from her until they walked up to their gate.
"We're going to Greece?" Mal asked as she read the sign that said Greece on their flight gate.
Ben nodded before he held out their tickets, showing her that they were going to Greece. She had always wanted to go, and had mentioned it to him a couple of times, but she didn't think that he was going to plan their honeymoon to be there.
"You said you wanted to go, so we are," he said as he took her hand and they walked to their gate.
They were directed to first class, which was another surprise to her, but she shouldn't have been. It was Ben for heaven sake. They had their own private cabin for the two of them so that they could enjoy the flight without having other guests bothering them.
Once the flight had landed, and they had gotten to their hotel, Mal could not believe that they were in Greece. The view from their room was amazing. The water was royal blue, the buildings were white, and everything was so beautiful.
"Look what I just got," Ben said as he walked up to Mal and showed her his phone.
It was a picture of Melody and Jackson having giant ice cream sundays and their faces were covered in chocolate and Melody's hair had whipped cream in it. Mal shook her head and laughed at the picture. She loved her kids so much, and wouldn't mind having another later.
"Want to call them?" He asked.
"Definitely," she said before she pulled out her phone and dialed her mother-in-law.
"Hi!" Jackson and Melody said as they appeared on the phone.
"Hi," Ben and Mal said as they smiled at their kids. "We can see you guys are having fun, by all the chocolate on your faces."
The kids giggled before nodding their heads. They went on to talk to the kids and Ben's parents for about an hour before it got late and they had to go to bed.
"We'll talk to you later," Mal said as she leaned her head on Ben's shoulder and looked at her kids. "Get ready for bed."
"Okay," they said as Melody started to fall in Adam's arms.
"We miss you," Melody said before she yawned.
"We miss you too," Ben said as pulled Mal close to him. "We'll be back before you know it."
"Okay," they said at the same time. "Goodnight. We love you."
"We love you too," Mal said as she smiled and the screen went dark.
"Now," Ben said as he laid them down on the bed and she curled into him. "Do you want to shower first, or I could, or we could just go to bed?"
"Why don't we kill two birds with one stone and…"
She didn't even finish her sentence before Ben crushed his lips to hers. He knew exactly what she was saying and he was more than happy to enjoy this evening with his wife. He pressed her further into the mattress before he trailed down her neck. Mal moaned as she laced her fingers into his hair. He wrapped his arm around her, picking her up off the ground and making her wrap her legs around his waist. This was going to be different than them having sex as boyfriend and girlfriend. They were husband and wife now.
"This is going to be different," Mal said as Ben pushed her against the shower wall.
"What?" He asked as he started to kiss down her neck.
"Trying to… god…" she moaned as Ben kissed the sensitive spot on her neck. "Trying to… to… do this… without the kids interrupting."
"Two weeks of uninterrupted alone time with my wife," Ben said as he pulled away and smirked at her. "Maybe we should do this more often," he said before he crushed his lips to hers and before they sealed their marriage.
The two weeks went by faster than they were expecting. Ben and Mal were in their Uber, and on their way to pick the kids up from school. They didn't call the kids the night before, because they wanted to surprise the kids outside of their school. They were very excited to see the kids and couldn't wait to see their reaction to them being home.
"Do you think they'll be excited?" Mal asked as she laced her fingers with Ben's.
"I'm pretty sure that we'll be tackled to the ground," he said, making her laugh.
The bell rang, and kids started to run out of the school. Ben and Mal squeezed each other's hands, waiting to see Melody and Jackson walk out. A couple of seconds later, both Melody and Jackson walked out of the school holding hands. They had been told to do that, by both Ben and Mal, because they didn't want either to get lost or lose each other.
"Melody! Jackson!" Ben yelled as he waved his free hand.
The kids turned to where their names were called and saw their parents standing under a big tree.
"Mom! Dad!" They yelled as they ran toward Ben and Mal.
Jackson jumped on Mal while Melody jumped on Ben, making the parents laugh.
"We missed you so much!" Jackson said as she tightened his hold on Mal.
"We missed you both too," Ben said as he kissed Melody's cheek.
"We didn't think you were going to be here until tomorrow," Jackson said.
"Do you know what tomorrow is?" Mal asked as she picked up her son, making him nod his head. "And do you really think that we were going to miss your birthday?" She asked as they started to walk to their car.
"No," he said as he shook his head and laughed.
"Great!" Ben said as he threw Melody up in the air. "Now let's go home."
The next morning Ben, Mal, and Melody slowly crept into Jackson's room. He was asleep and burying his face into his pillow.
Happy birthday to you
Mal sang as she sat on the side of Jackson's bed.
Happy birthday to you
Ben and Melody sang as they sat on the opposite side of the bed.
Happy birthday dear Jackson
The three of them sang, as Jackson smiled and turned to look at his family.
Happy birthday to you
Jackson sat up and hugged them, as best as he could.
"Thank you," he said as he pulled away and looked at them.
"Are you ready for your birthday breakfast?" Mal asked as she stood up and held her hand out for Jackson to take.
"Yeah," he said excitedly as he jumped out of his bed and took his mom's hand.
The four of them walked downstairs to everyone standing in the kitchen, waiting for Jackson.
"Happy Birthday!"
Jackson smiled as he saw his three grandparents, his uncle Jay, uncle Carlos, auntie Jane, auntie Evie, uncle Doug, and auntie Lonnie standing in the kitchen. He ran before going around and hugging everyone. He was so happy that everyone was there for his birthday, but he was super excited for his birthday party later.
"I cannot believe you are 8 already," Belle said as she hugged her grandson. "It was only yesterday when you were my little helper in the kitchen."
"I know," Adam said as he crouched down beside Jackson. "Are you able to drive yet?" He asked, making Jackson laugh.
"No," he said as he shook his head. "I'm too little."
Jackson turned his head when he spelt the familiar smell of his mom's cinnacakes. He saw her, his dad, and Melody on the other side of the counter helping her make the delicious pancakes. Ben was helping Melody measure the amount of cinnamon that was supposed to go into the batter, while Mal looked over and saw Jackson smiling at them. She smiled back at him, before she winked and nudged her head for him to go over to them. She helped him up so that he was sitting on the counter and next to the giant mixing bowl. As she added more ingredients to the bowl the aroma around the kitchen became delicious.
"Here you go, Jackson," Mal said as she passed Jackson a plate with two pancakes on it, and an 8 candle sitting in the middle.
"Thank you, mom," he said as he kissed her cheek.
Happy birthday to you
Mal sang as she smiled at Jackson and sat in a chair next to him, and as everyone started to sing.
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Jackson
Happy birthday to you
He looked around at everyone with a bright smile on his face. He couldn't believe that this was his family, and he was so happy that they were.
"Make a wish, Jackson," Melody said as she smiled at her brother and bounced on Ben's lap.
He looked at the candle, before he closed his eyes and blew it out. He made his wish and smiled at everyone when he was done.
"What did you wish for?" Evie asked as she looked at him from across the table.
"I can't say," Jackson said. "If I do, it won't come true."
Two months had passed and Mal was sick. She had been home with both of the kids while they had the flu, and had gotten it from them. She couldn't hold any food down, and got nauseous from different smelling foods.
"I am going to call my mom," Ben said as he put his jacket on.
"Don't," Mal said as she rolled over in their bed to face him. "I'm fine. I'll pick the kids up after school."
"Mal, you can barely get out of bed," he said as he sat down and stroked her hair. "You can't keep food down, other than broth and noodles."
"Fine," she said in defeat. "You can ask your mom to pick them up."
"Thank you," he said as he leaned down and kissed her forehead. "I'll be home before around 5, so I can take care of you."
"You don't…"
"Shush," he said as he covered her mouth with his hand. "You're my wife, and I am going to take care of you when you are sick. I just have to go to two meetings and then I am all yours."
"You're stubborn," Mal said as she furrowed her eyebrows at her husband.
"That's why we're perfect for each other," he said as he rubbed his hand on her hip and stood up. "My mom is probably going to call a little later, after I call her."
"I had no doubt about it," she said as she watched Ben clasp on his watch. "I'm just glad that I don't have a fever like the kids did."
"Me too," he said as he looked back at her and tilted his head. "I'm going to go," he said. "I'll be back, and I love you."
She nodded her head, before she snuggled into her pillow. "I love you too."
He walked out of their room, closed the door behind him, and made his way out of the house before calling his mom.
"Hello?" Belle said as she answered the phone.
"Hey, mom," he said as he got into his car. "I was wondering if you would be able to pick up the kids from school?"
"Yeah," she said. "I can do that. Why?"
"Mal now has the flu from the kids from when they were sick," he said. "She can't hold any food down, and I don't want her to have to run around and chase the kids while she is sick."
"Yes," Belle said with more authority in her voice. "I'll go by, take her some soup, ginger ale, and crackers, I'll pick up the kids clothes, and Adam and I will watch them until she is better."
"They can stay with us mom," Ben said as he continued to drive to work. "I am capable of taking care of my kids."
"I know you are," she said. "But you are busy, and I know she is not going to rest if the kids are running around this weekend."
"Okay, mom," Ben said. "I'll let Mal know."
"Okay, tell her I'll be there in about two hours," she said.
"You got it, boss," he said. "Thank you, mom. I really appreciate it."
"Anything for the four of you," she said before she hung up the phone.
Ben drove to work, and texted Mal throughout his day, and told her that his mom was going to be by to check on her. She had responded, and even texted him when his mom had gotten there. When his mom picked up the kids, they were excited to be having a sleepover at their grandparents house. He was now on his way home, hoping that Mal was feeling a little better after resting all day.
"Mal," he called as he walked through the front door. "Babe?"
There was no answer, making him grow confused. He put his briefcase on the couch, before heading upstairs and to their room.
"Mal?" He called as he slowly opened the door.
He looked to see her lying in their bed drawing in her sketchbook and her headphones were in. He walked further into the room and tapped her leg, making her turn to smile at him.
"Hey," she said as she rolled over and smiled at her husband.
"Hey, you're looking better," he said as laid on his side to face her. "Did you rest?"
She nodded her head as she kept smiling at him. "I did. Your mom brought me soup, ginger ale, crackers, and medicine. The kids called after school, and I have just been resting since."
"Good," Ben told her, before he rubbed her side. "I'm going to shower, and then I am going to nurse you back to health," he said, making her laugh.
"I'm fine," she said as she laughed at her husband's goofiness. "I am a lot better, I promise."
"Okay," he said before he kissed her head. "I'll shower and I'll be back in a bit."
Mal nodded her head at her husband. He walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind him, before turning the shower on. He had a long day, and was tired because of the long meetings he had to sit through, but a shower would wake him up so that he could take care of Mal. He walked over to their large countertop with a double sink, before unbuttoning his shirt. He threw it on the counter, and it fell to the floor but he also heard something else hit the floor too. He walked over to pick the shirt up, and saw a pregnancy test laying face down on the floor. He froze. Mal wouldn't leave a test sitting on the counter if it wasn't positive, he thought. He slowly picked the test up, and flipped it over to see the bold pink double lines. Mal was pregnant. They were going to have a baby. He rushed to the door, opened it with the test still in his hand, and saw Mal sitting on the edge of their bed, biting her thumb nail.
"We're having a baby?" He asked as he smiled and held the test up.
She bit her lip, trying to contain her excitement, before nodding her head. He strides over, picking her up off the bed, and spun her around.
"What made you think you were pregnant?" He asked as he wrapped her legs around his waist, still holding her close.
"Last year, both Jackson and Rosie were sick, and I didn't get sick," she started to explain. "I actually hardly ever get sick, but I realized that I was late, and a lot of math later…" she said, but was cut off by Ben crushing his lips to hers.
The parents were over the moon about their new member, and couldn't wait to meet them.
"Does my mom know?" He asked as they pulled apart.
"No," Mal said, shaking her head.
"Did she bring the test? Because we didn't have any around…"
"Yes," Mal said. "I asked her if she could pick up an order for me at Target, before she came over, which I knew she wouldn't have said no to."
"She didn't ask what it was?"
"She did," Mal said as she sucked in her bottom lip. "But I told her that it was a cream you needed, but because you got a rash."
Ben's eyes widened, at what she told his mom. "What?" He asked.
"I didn't want to say it was for the kids, because then she would have taken it because they are going to stay with them," she said as she started to laugh. "I ordered a couple of other things, but the box is in a weird shape so I had to think of something. Plus, your mom isn't snoopy, so I didn't have to worry about her going through the bag."
"I should be mad at you," he said as he smirked at her. "But, I'm not. We're having a baby."
"Yeah," Mal said as she nodded her head. "We are."
They both started to cry as they held onto one another. They were both so happy, and couldn't wait to share the news with Melody and Jackson. Their family was growing by one. Nothing could ruin this moment. Nothing at all.
That's it for now! I am going to hopefully upload 3 stories by the end of next week! Which ones? I have no clue yet lol!
Until next time my lovies! xoxo GM
