This Is Not A Chapter

No, I am not dropping this. Gotcha!

Though jokes aside, this really is just a status update on why I've taken a bit of a hiatus: college, my dad catching the virus (he's been okay for a few months by this point, dw), and my dogs dying of stupid Parvo because we didn't know they were supposed to take shots for it after around a month. Stupid viruses.

So, many of you might know that I probably have a penchant for rewrites. That's what this is, it's what's happening right now.

I call it an intermediate rewrite, or borrowing a term from one of my favorite web fic authors, Aorii, who wrote Daybreak on Hyperion; an Intermediate Redux. I didn't change the concept entirely, unlike with Noah's Ark. I was simply dissatisfied with the flow of the current series of events and had written myself into a corner. The execution was wonky and the chain of command and organization was unclear at best. Noah's portrayal and interactions with his squad at this point had made them virtually irreconcilable and my plans for the arcs after that necessitate them actually trusting each other, and you can't really have a reconciliation when you don't actually know who you're reconciling with.

okay, now that I think about it, the changes from old Daybreak to Daybreak (re) is about as much as I'm doing for the intermediate rewrite. The change of concept between Noah's Ark and Ironblood was a harder redux.

So yeah, those are what I've been focusing on, mostly, since the story hasn't taken off that far yet since it only has three chapters published. At the time of writing, I've already rewritten the first two chapters with a fair amount of satisfaction, despite not having actually read through them (might ask a friend to beta). I might also change the summary; the fanfiction one, in particular, is a bit too on-the-nose and spoilery for Act 2. Still, I'm at the tail end of the semester, so I'd be busy (if I wasn't procrastinating) until December 20-21. I'll try to crap out the updates by Christmas, stretched out over a few days.

What I will ask though is if I should keep the old version posted as-is with minor edits, put them in a docs file online and link them to the first chapter, or delete them entirely? Let me know in a comment/review. The decision will be made known… in the next update…

Haaaiz…
