Episode two: Morning Surprise

Quick disclaimer I don't own the title Girls und Panzer or Transformers, please go and give the creators the credit they deserve.

Also this fanfic was inspired by MAC A10n50 who didn't finish his, so I decided to do my own based off of his.

At the crack of dawn Miho and her friends were walking in the lamp lit streets of their campus.

"How is it after all these practices you still sleep like a brick Mako?" the orange haired chatter of the group whined to the calm girl.

"I only sleep like that when we're in daylight savings. If the sun isn't up, why should I be?" she bluntly spoke.

"Well Saori's persistence seems to be rubbing off on you well Makao, you've become more self caring in the mornings than you used to be." the ikebanaist of the group voiced. Her tone was calm as well, but unlike Mako's low and blunt tone, Hana's was smooth and sweet like a rose.

Mako's eyes shifted down in slight annoyance, "Hmmm…" she hummed in agreement

Saori popped up at Mako's side, "Who else but Hana to shed light on the scene right? But Hana's right you know? Your such a big girl now Mako." she teased.

"Stop it." Mako replied with a blunt growel.

Ahead Miho and Yukari walked looking back at the three.

Yukari looked at her friend, "You know they're like this because of you." she stated with a smile.

Miho turned to her in surprise, "W-what do you mean?" she asked with a flush of pink in her cheeks.

"With everything we've been through the past year. The Shensha-Do tournament, then All-Stars University, all of this, the entire reason people still have jobs is because of you Mrs. Nishizumi." Yukari expressed, gleefully waving her hands out, "If not for you, my love for tanks would still be limited to building models." her smile, while still evident, had saddened slightly.

Miho looked at Yukari shocked. Her face puffed as she tried to hold herself back, but her attempt was futile as she burst out laughing.

Yuhari looked at her friend with a puzzled expression, "Mrs. Nishizumi?" she asked, but Miho continued to giggle, "Hey come on Miho I was being serious! Are you trying to embarrass me?!" she pouted.

Miho settled down, "Hehehe sorry Yukari…" she cleared her throat before continuing, "It's just that you make it sound like I was the only one driving the tank." she smiled.

Yukari felt herself blush at how silly it made her sound, "W-w-well no! But it was your leadership that got us through the roughest patches and out of the deepest holes in all of tankery!" she blurted to get her point across.

"But I can't be a good commander without a good crew to work the tank. Name one situation where we could have won any of our matches with even one of you guys being unaccounted for." Miho requested.

Yukari bit her tongue and looked down at the ground as her mind drew blank answers, "I guess not then." she admitted feeling a bit giddy in her chest.

"See?..." Miho smiled back at her tank obsessive friend, "So don't ever put yourself below me just because I'm the commander. You know I value every single member of this team and tank. If I had thought otherwise when we were against Kuromoromine then we would have lost had we left Rabbit team behind. Being a good commander requires skill, but being a great commander requires great people who follow you." she finished passing her bit of wisdom.

Yukari's eyes swirled with gleaming joy, rubbing her eyes to not let herself break down, "You're right! You can always rely on me to have a fresh shell loaded!" she clenched her fists with enthusiasm.

Suddenly a weight crashed into her back as arms hugged her from behind, "And you can always rely on a charming gal like me to keep everyone informed of our plans!" Saori butted in.

Following her Hana walked up beside Miho, "And if you ever need steady hands and accuracy then I could be of assistance.".

Mako then caught up, "If we're ever in a tight situation I can always give our opponents the slip… and drift a tank." she boasted with little pride in her voice.

"And if you ever need someone to tell you you're late you can rely on me!" a suddenly female voice exploded in front of them.

The group of five failed to realize that they were now at the entrance of their school with the rest of the tankery team waiting.

There were three girls in the front with looks that mirrored each other from the length of their hair to the height of their bodies. Anyone who didn't know them could easily get the triplets mixed up with one another.

The middle girl who had bantered them before continued, "I don't even need to ask for your reason. It's the same answer as always." she glared at Mako.

Mako's wall was kept up however with steel beams built in for support as she was unfazed by the nasty look, "But it's five minutes till six." shestated.

"Don't be smart with me! That's still considered late! You think just because this isn't a documented role call that you can't be on time?!" the middle twin scolded pointing a small and sharp finger at the moodless girl.

"I never said that Sodoko." Mako replied.

"Don't call me Sodoko!" she flipped before turning to Miho "With all due respect commander Nishizumi, you can't expect to keep up with poor time management. How many more close calls like this till it becomes the last call?" she asked in a more respectful tone than with Mako.

Miho rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment, "Eeer, you're not wrong." she admitted.

The next twin to Sodoko's left spoke next, "Well with the commander and her team's arrival. Everyone seems to be accountable.".

"Well enough dilly dallying lets make our way in…" another girl with short black hair and a piece of a pair of glasses that acted like a monocle said.

Two other girls stood to her left.

The shortest girl with long burgundy colored pigtails stood in the middle snacking on dried potatoes while the third with brown hair tied back into a short ponytail that splays just down her neck.

Together the three were well known as the Student Body Council.

"Commander Nishizumi…" the monocle girl continued, "I've prepared an exercise for today's practice and was hoping to get your intake on it.".

"Ahem…" the short pig tailed girl tapped her foot while giving a side look.

The monocle girl sighed, "Sorry, something WE prepared for today's practice." she emphasized the extra contribution.

"The prez has really been looking forward to this for a while now." the girl with the short ponytail chirped in.

"Well with the end of the year approaching I just wanted to get all my ideas out there, and I thought this could be fun for all of us." the prez bit off a piece of dried potato.

The talk of this idea got Miho pumped a bit, "Well that sounds great. Why don't you explain it on the way to the garages?" she suggested.

And so they did. The volleyball team, the hall monitors, the freshmen, the auto and history club, and the gamer girls all followed in a pack as they talked amongst themselves.

The student council talked with Miho about this morning's practice exercise. The idea was to have a small team annihilation match. Since they had eight tanks the teams would be even. What mattered was making sure fire power and armor was evenly distributed. It was decided that Miho's team would consist of the Type 89, the Type 3 Chi-Nu, the Panzer IV Ausf. H, and the Char B1. The student council team would consist of the Hetzer, the Sturmgeschutz III, the M3 Lee, and the Porsche Tiger.

"Commander!" the blonde girl with the german field marshal's cap shouted. The tankery team had arrived at the garages where their precipice tanks were stored and locked up in, or so that was expected. The history club member was currently holding the lock and chain that had been lying on the ground cut.

Everyone gasped at the realization.

"Our tanks!" Yukari screamed in panic.

This caused the rest of the girls to react like electricity as they all ran for the door.

The history club pulled the doors apart to make way for everyone before entering themselves.

They all stood looking at their tanks which were left untouched and unharmed.

"Everyone go inspect your tanks, but be careful! There may be someone still here." Miho ordered and the team scattered to their prospective machines.

The freshmen stood shaking in front of their M3 Lee.

"What are you waiting for Azusa?" the blonde freshman with long pigtails and glasses nervously asked.

"What do you mean what am I waiting for? We're supposed to do this together!" Azusa stated. Mostly because she didn't want to be the one to do it.

"But you are the tank commander so shouldn't you take the lead?" another one of the freshmen with long black hair that hung down the small of her back.

Azusa whimpered like a sad puppy before approaching the tank trembling.

The other freshman kept their distance, but followed just as timidly.

"We're rooting for you!" one of the small freshmen with black short cut hair cheered her friend.

"Don't antagonize me Saki!" Azusa snapped back as she climbed up to the hatch above the driver's seat. Slowly grasping the handle with her sweaty palm, she looked back at her friends to see Saki using Aya as a human shield. Clenching the handle she yanked the hatch open, "Gaaaagh!" she screamed and fell back.

The other freshman rushed to catch her but tripped over each other and became a cluster of limbs.

"What did you see?!" Aya asked.

Azusa groaned, "Nothing, I was just jumpy." she let her head fall back.

"Can you get off now?" Saki groaned.

The automotive club were atop of their Porsche Tiger.

One of the members with medium black hair, with marshmallow toasted skin adored in a white tank top with the top of her orange monkey suit tied around her waist stood above the hatch on the turret.

*DONG!*

*DONG!*

She banged a wrench on the hatch, "If anyone's in there you're getting one mercy shot at getting out with your ass intact!" she shouted.

"Are you really going to hurt someone Keiko?" another automotive club girl with short red brown hair asked with slight concern.

"If it's Keiko that's doing it then maybe we should be more concerned for the intruder." another club member who also had red brown hair, but was shorter. Her skin was darker and she wore white heat resistant gloves.

Hana poked her head from the commander's spot of the tank, "No one, and everything inside is untouched." she stated.

Saori sighed in relief, "Oooh thank god. After everything we've done to make this tank comfortable enough to bear.".

The inside of their tank still had everything there from before, their pillows, blankets, hygiene products, and air fresheners. Everything still remained the same.

Yukari tapped her chin, "So someone broke into our garage full of tanks only to do nothing?".

Mako squeamishly moved up against Yukar holding herself, "This is starting to creep me out." her voice was shookened from its normal plain tone.

Yukari smiled, "Aww, don't worry Mako. Everything will be okay, we'll get to the bottom of this! Right Miho?" she turned to her commander.

The tank commander had her commander face on which was a look void of joyus emotion and left everyone who saw it with a chill up their spine, "... this doesn't make sense." she thought to herself everything that could have been medled with as she looked over the team inspecting their tanks to report the same results.

"Miho come here!" the prez waved over from the entrance with the cut chain in hand

Miho turned to her team, "Yukari, have the automotive club inspect the engines for any sabotage."

"Right!" Yukari saluted before rushing off to follow out her order.

"Hana, Mako, do a walk through on our supplies and make sure nothing was stolen.".

"Understood." Hana nodded before climbing out of the tank with a creeped out Mako in close pursuit.

"Saori, can you go tank to tank and make sure no one's radios were tampered with?".

"You can count on me!" she smiled brightly giving a thumbs up before hopping in their tank to start with.

Mhio walked over to the prez, "What is it Anzu?" she questioned.

Anzu held the chain links where the cut was made, "Does this cut seem a bit off to you?" she pieced the links together and separated them again.

Miho inspected the cut, "Hmmm…" she hummed to herself in thought as she took the chains. There was no bend in the chains or scratches of struggle, it was a clean salami cut on the heavy duty chains, "It's too clean of a cut to be bolt cutters." she stated.

"That's what I was thinking…" the prez made a pointed gun gesture, "I was leaning towards the use of a buzz saw." she suggested.

Miho's eyes narrowed, "A buzz saw you say?" her eyes opened up along with an idea. She turned sharply towards the Leopon team, "Reira!" she called out.

One of the girls from the automotive club turned towards the sound of her name in curiosity. She had short dark brown hair and echoed her club members in the orange black scuffed monkey suit with fireproof gloves. Splitting from her team and Yukari, she made her way to Miho, "Yes commander?".

"Reira, how well confined are your guys' workshop tools?" Miho asked.

Reira didn't hesitate to answer, "All of our electric equipment and blow torches are kept locked tight by a six digit lock in a barred cage while the auto shop in general is locked up every night. The only people that would know the code are my friends and a few of the staff and teachers." she answered quickly before asking her question, "But do you think a teacher would do something like this?" it was clear that she didn't want to believe something to be true, but anything was possible.

"I'm not sure…" Miho held up the divided chain, "Maybe you could make something of this?" she let the mechanic take the chain.

Reira inspected the cut like it was a piece of modern art, her eyes like scanners analyzed every centimeter of it. The tension in her face seemed to melt away into relief before reforming into confusion, "Well I can say that this isn't from a buzz saw like you were probably thinking. The edges of the cut are smooth and slightly rounded which means something really hot cut through it, but it's not from a blow torch." she reported in fine detail.

Miho's face seemed to harden a bit at the news, "Can you distinguish what could have done it?" she pushed for information.

Reira grew a bit nervous from the look, but thought that being straightforward and honest was the best course, "Well, I guess if someone had a high powered laser cutter, but this isn't some sci-fi anime or anything." she quipped.

Miho sighed in slight frustration, "Then what was the purpose of all this?" she took back the chains looking at them with heavy eyes.

"Don't give yourself a migraine trying to put it all together Miho…" Anzu then pulled out a bag of dried potatoes, "Indulge yourself a bit and relax, time will give us answers." she cheerfully offered the tasty snack.

The history club had finished inspecting their Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. F only to find it the same as when they locked it up last night.

"This reminds me a lot of the Watergate scandal." the blonde in the trenchcoat and german hat stated.

"But didn't the burglars at least get caught?" a girl with short brown hair and a red scarf coiled around her neck questioned.

Another history club member spoke next, "I think we should consider ourselves lucky that nothing was actually tampered with. Whoever broke in, I'm sure the prez will begin to take extra measures in regards to the security of our tanks." the girl in with mid length unruly black hair and midnight blue eyes. She wears red eyeglasses along with a dark brown jacket.

Saori took her spot at the radio as she put on her glasses and by the looks of everything it seemed fine, but that wasn't good enough for her, "Let's make sure you still work on the inside." she said as she picked up the head set and pressed her ear to it as her other hand flipped the radio on and began turning to different frequencies which played back a lot of static, until-

"...bots-".

Saori perked up at the sound of a masculin voice, but it was so short she couldn't be sure "Huh?" she curiously began spinning the dial clockwise and counter-clockwise. The voice coming on and off, but in fuzzy storms of static. Saori acted quickly as she amplified the signal and spun the frequency dial again until she got the message clear, "Yes!" she cheered as the message played clearly.

"Calling all Autobots, this is ~rrRREEEE!".

"AH!" Saori removed the earmuff from her ear as if it had bit her. The transmission was playing smoothly until something caused audio feedback and squealed into the girls ear.

The power switch on the radio suddenly switched itself off, but this action went unnoticed as Saori groaned cradling her ringing ear.

Meanwhile, Keiko climbed up to the rear of the Panzer IV and popped open the engine panel, "Alright girl lets see wwwwwhaaat are you?" her thought process trailed into a pang of curiosity at the sight of a green liquid like substance leaking from the oil pipe. Using two of her fingers she scooped some of it and rubbed it between her thumb. It felt slick like oil, but it definitely wasn't oil. Giving it a sniff, she smelt nothing. Deciding that further inspection was necessary she whipped the goop on her monkey suit before digging for her tools and pulling out a wrench, "Let's start with the-".

*SLAM!*

The engine panel slammed shut.

"EH! Hey!" Keiko yelped. The mechanic went to open the panel again, but this time it didn't budge. Even when using the wrench to try and pry it open she failed, "What the hell?"

The engine suddenly rumbled to life and jolted forward.

The sudden movement caused Keiko to fall back, "W-W-WOW!" she stammered as she fell off along with her tool bag.

Saori squealed inside the tank as the engine ignition sputtered and growled into action before moving forward, "What the!?" she practically threw herself to the engine control and turned it off, "How? I was nowhere near the ignition?!" she cried to herself as nerves spread through her body.

The divided attention in the garage suddenly became one the second the Panzer IV had turned on causing Keiko to tumble off and Saori to scream.

Miho gasped, "Saori!" she ran to the tank.

When the tank suddenly stopped in place so did Miho.

Saori soon propped her head out looking like a nervous wreck. Her glasses were worn crooked on her face as she slouched over.

"Saori what are you doing!?" Miho shouted out of shock and confusion.

"I didn't do anything! The stupid tank just started moving!" Saori cried.

The other automotive club members helped Keiko off the ground as Saori grounded herself from the tank and put distance between herself and it.

The girl with the monocle from the student body council walked up just behind Miho and Saori, "Well all tanks seem to be working just fine." she concluded.

Saori whipped around, "Just fine?! Did you not just see what happened there!? Also I heard something strange on the radio, but I can't exactly remember what it was the transmission said." the ginger girl scratched her head trying to remember.

"What I saw was your tank being able to run, now if there really is anything wrong with the tanks we can isolate it and take note of it during our practice match now we're running out of time…" the monocle girl turned to Miho, "Commander Nishizumi, I strongly recommend taking this course of action.".

Miho thought about it. This whole morning had been like walking through a mirror maze, confusing and not knowing which way it would go next. Of all the tanks in their arsenal the Panzer IV had seemed to be acting up the most. Whether it was a mechanical issue or just a one time fault would be determined, but only if they tested its efficiency in battle, "I think you might have the right idea Momo, go ahead and brief everyone.".

Momo smirked with a nod before turning to everyone, "Alright everyone listen up! We're having a practice match!" she announced in a bossy tone.

Miho's eyes drifted over to the Panzer IV, she hoped that whatever was wrong, if anything, that it was probably something minor… right?
