What are we meant to do?

Cybertron

Many years ago…

War on Cybertron tipped heavily in the Decepticons favor, with the Autobots being forced back into the city of Lacon, the planet's capital and the birth of the Arc.

Once peaceful and prestigious, but now billows of smoke stretched to space and buildings were laced in blue flames.

Proud buildings began to crack and lose their integrity, their collapse shook the planet to the core and with it the rebels' morale. The cities limits only shrank as Decepticon bombers saw no means to show mercy.

Lacon's best cards, now played in the hands of the Autobots against the Decepticons.

Perilous battles were paraded in every street decorating the sky with various colored lasers and explosions.

A certain battle rampaged amongst the webs of sky bridges.

The sky was swarmed with winged enemies. Insecticons attacked in clusters, their buzzing was nonstop like a thousand drills going off. They crawled along the building sides as well as under the bridge to try and flank their targets.

Two Autobots fought like hell against the monstrous Cybertronians. One Autobot was painted maroon with black accents bearing a rounded helmet where the optic and mouth openings were connected.

Another was a rustic olive green and dull gray Autobot with a broad and rough build, bearing scars of past battles such as one of his blue eyes being gray while bearing minor damage.

Bolts of blue lasers flew and popped a few insecticon heads.

The two Autobots having to fend off from every direction as they were closed in together inch by inch.

"We're about to become incectasnacks Sarge!" the maroon Autobot warned.

The gray and green Autobot extended his arm. The fist was retracted into the forearm before expanding its size to make room for four silos. Rockets shot out and blew dozens of the Decepticon creatures from the bridge and air, "Maybe your scrawny ass! HUH!" he punched an insecticon going for a strike, "But I'm a full course meal for these suckers, so how do ya think I feel!".

"I don't know if your energon has aged well old man!" the maroon Autobot bickered with the sargent. An insecticon lunged at him, but the Autobot's reflexes caught the creature by its mandibles.

The Cybertronian monster hissed and spat trying to take a bite.

"Gross!" he kneed the creature while ripping the metal mandibles from its face.

From his left another buzzed straight at him with its claws out.

The Autobot shot its wing out and upon impact stabbed both of the acquired blades into its head. Turning back to the jawless insecticon trying its luck once more at an attack which was met with a blast to the head. A mass of lime gooey substance covered him, "GAAH! These things are complete slobs!" he continued the laser blasts as more approached.

"You sure!?" Sarge spared a look back, "You look better than you did before!" he chuckled killing more metaloid insects.

"Sarge, we're about to die!".

"Ooh quit your whinnin' Treader, Stormfront is just a few clicks from our location… I think!".

"You think!?" Treader was upauled.

The Insecticons evaluated the situation and advised for a new approach. Upon rethinking their strategy they went with a new airborne tactic. A few began flying straight up for altitude before descending straight down on their target, even branching off to strike their blind spots.

Just yards away from meeting their prey however, conflict obstructed them. Their bodies were suddenly torn to shreds by a stream of green lasers.

The insecticons fell like flies in pieces.

A purple blur rushed over head leaving a neon green streak overhead.

"There's our wingman!" Sarge cried out joyfully.

The Autobot seeker soared through the air dodging insecticon attacks and taking a few swarms out with rockets. His plane design was sharp and sleek, four wings on both sides forming an wings 'X' shape.

Turning back around to reunite with his squad the seeker's thrusters hummed with building energy while crackling with green electricity before bursting, spiking with drastic acceleration. Barrel rolling and letting loose a barrage of lasers and rockets on Decepticon creatures. Suddenly the body of the plane began its transformation. The wings folding in on themselves to make room for arms. The thrusters continued to burn as they shifted up and locked into place as shoulders. The nose divided itself as it bent inward to make the chest cavity. The rest was completed upon landing and sliding along the bridge's length as the last few pieces clicked and locked into place of the robot's figure, "Eyyyyy!" Stormfront finger gunned at Treader. His face bore a star shape (Like Electro from Spider-Man) and his mouthpiece illuminated green with his speech.

"Questionable timing as always sparkle's!" Sarge killed the seekers thunder with the trademark nickname.

"Now we just need one more, then we can all die together!" Treader took his frustrations out on the seemingly limitless number of crawling tangos.

"Oh I knew you two could handle it." the seeker began hovering just enough to get a few shots in. His arms bearing disk like attachment that spun with great speeds to let loose volts of green lighting to roast the bugs.

"I was havin' a blast!" Sarge threw a beetle-like insecticon at a crowd of them, "But even I was starting to feel a bit of resentment!".

Stormfront's green optics optics rolled, "I go where the fun is!." his body discharged currents of energy as his weapons dispurst more bolts..

Treader was forced back at the snapping jaws and acidic regurgitations, "Sorry if our party was too boring for you!" he sneered.

"Well I can't get enough juice just guilding evacs out of the city. How else am I supposed to save you guys when you're in desperate need?" Stormfront gloated.

Sarge laughed in a ridiculing manner blasting a few winged creatures, "Alright then smartass, since ya like boasting so much how 'bout showin' off a few kicks now?!".

Stormfront landed, "Now that I'm fully charged, yes! Now get close to me and hold off for a few seconds!" he instructed.

Sarge and Treader got within a yard of their companion and took defensive measures in keeping the Insecticons from interrupting.

Stormfront's core began to vibrantly glow green and spread across his body, his emerald eyes glowing. As his body continued to surge, green volts of electricity danced off and across his form, "Just a… little… MORE!" he screamed, extending his arms out. The trap was sprung and green lightning shot out from the Autobot. Like a neon star his body discharged lumens of energy that branched out touching and jumping every insecticon flying and crawling. The air filled his curdling screams as the monsters were fried to a blackened crisp. Some instantly exploded while others fell from the sky smoldering as the surge of energy blew out their sparks.

Stormfront dulled to normality and wobbled forward.

Treader caught him by the shoulder.

"Easy soldier." Sarge patted him for a work well done.

"I'm *pant!* I'm fine guys, really. I'll walk it off." he walked on his own.

"You candle lit these ugly bastards good!" Sarge looked around at the smoldering corpses of Insecticons, "Now where in hell is Hin-".

The whistle of something approaching fast howled.

*KAPOOWWWW!*

Something massive slammed into the bridge and threw the Autobots away in different directions.

Stromfront rolled off but caught on to the edge of the bridge.

Treader's feet and hand scraped and sparked until he finally halted. His blue eyes looked up to meet their newly arrived challenger.

The figure rose up from its kneeled position, a towering and bruting behemoth cladded in purple armor. The mechanisms in its broad shoulders hummed and locked its arms up into place as it finally turned its small head to stare back with its cyclops optic.

Treader's alertness shot up, "A leaper, damn!" he began charging his cannon and fired.

The Desepticon's armor did not scorch nor break at the impacts. Taking position his back thrusters erupted and shot him forward.

Treader backed up quickly, but not fast enough.

The leaper reared its massive sword arm back and thrusted forward only hitting air as a few green volts danced over it.

Treader took a second to gather his bearings.

"I'm starting to think you like being saved!" Stormfront played.

"Put me down you fool!" Treader barked.

A barrage of missiles whirled around the two Autobots and made contact with the leaper, swallowing the Decepticon in a blast. From the smoke screen a yellow glow protruded and the leaper walked out unsathed.

"...Oh shit…" Treader felt extremely unlucky.

Sarge on the other hand, "Come here ya big sonuvabitch!" tested his luck.

The Leaper locked on to its new target past the two Autobots. Crossing its arms over itself it shot forward with a propelled launch, swating the two Autobots aside and closing the distance between him and the Autobot.

Sarge only lived for the moment. Pounding his fists together and smiling widely in anticipation.

A jet propulsion sent the heavy ton foe airborne. Rearing its scythed arm back for a killing blow before descending at breakneck speeds.

An uncanny sound of propellers chopping the air took dawned.

Before any contact was made a flash of light blue obstructed the Desepticon's trajectory. The Leaper threw the punch and it was met with the sound of shredding metal. Pulling his arm back, only there was no arm, just a missing joint socket sticking with wires and leaking energon. Looking back up from confusion to meet a newly arrived Autobot.

Sarge growled in annoyance, "Damnit Hindus, I could take him! Your messin' up my kill streak!" he scolded the distinct Autobot.

The propellers on the Autobot whined down to a stop before shifting down in a fan like pose over his back, "Scores are irrelevant when your about to die Sarge." the Autobot was tall. His head armor adored a curved fin like top and his face covered by a pointed mask. His three sapphire optics were aligned in a triangular pattern, "Besides, I like the way these guys crack.".

The Desepticon's single eye beamed acknowledging the threat of its new target and went for a brutal punch.

Hindus matched the attack with a counter, letting the blade slice air over head while using the momentum from the Leaper to throw him over and slammed hard on his back. Grabbing the Decepticon by the head and squeezed, earning a few cracks, "I could take the easy way and attack your soft spot." Hindus's propellors stirred up once more and took the two to the sky. "But I get more pleasure out of breaking you." after gaining enough altitude the Autobot released his hold, letting the chains of gravity pull the leaper down. Hindus's shouder blades shifted out of place making room for missile silos to do their job and unleash a barrage.

The leaper was struck by the flurry of explosions only accelerating its fall, but it wasn't spared a break as the Autobot caught up and kicked his heel right in the armor chest plate.

"This armor of yours gives you great confidence…" Hindus's arms began to transform and extend their lengths, "And when I'm done, your confidence will be squandered…" Bringing his two limbs together the arms began to link and click with each other to further go the transformation, "In fragments." pulses of blue energon began to shimmer and spike. The transformation resulted in a long gauss rifle bubbling with orbs of energy.

*BEEDWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!*

A flash of white light ignited from the discharge and passed through the leaper. The scene was like a strike of lightning, you blinked, and you very well may miss it.

After a few seconds of falling the leaper illuminated orange on a spot in its chest before suddenly exploding. Launching pieces of itself from the frey.

Treader shivered, "You sure are vicious for an Autobot.".

Hindus descended to the bridge where his squad recuperated at, "All evacuees are being transported to Autobot City. Apologies for running behind, but I had to pick up someone's slack after ditching me." his three eyes glared at Stormfront.

Stormfront didn't seem to feel any sympathy, "You're an inspiration to every noble Autobot whose had to go at it alone." he sarcastically quipped.

"Can it Sparkles." Sarge intervened.

"Sparkles." Hindus stifled a laugh.

"Gimme intel on your scouting run." Sarge ordered.

Stormfront sighed at the usage of the name, but complied, "Decepticon ships have taken control of the air space so I had to keep a low altitude. However…" he turned to Hindus, "Your little rival has come back with some new toys, Hindus, emphasis on little." he turned to face the smoking city.

Hindus seemed to straighten up hearing this, "Chrome Dome is in the city? I thought we had prepared for him out after the first two settlements?" this news did not set well.

"And we scrounge through thicks n' hard spots for energon to set up, better than a kick to the side, but the sneaky lug came up from right under our defensive lines and kicked us in the back using the subway systems.".

Treader growled, "Those gateways were supposed to be sealed off!".

"Well their integrity can only hold up for so long when they got a thousand gruling nats chewing and spitting acid on the poor mechanism. Shockwave's finally feilding his little must've made a path big enough for his machine to squeeze through." Stormfront concluded.

The news embeded a bit of despair.

"Optimus won't have enough time to launch those ships if the Decepticons push for a final advance." Treader stated.

Hindus growled with frustration clenching his fists.

Sarge transformed his arm to its quad launcher, "Then it sounds like we're going to have to tank this last advance!" he blarred with excitement.

Stormfront looked at his sargent with concern, "Wait you… you ain't referring to just the four of us now are ya?".

"Sarge I still don't agree with Optimus's plan, I just know that the Decepticons are awaiting our ships to launch into orbit. I say we return to Autobot City and negotiate a strategic alternative." Hindus attempted to bargain with his sarge.

Sarge rubbed his forehead, "Hindus I've heard you before, but Prime has a good intuition, makes his leadership easy to follow. So if he believes that abandoning Cybertron so that our people can live is the best course to set on then I'll continue to be glad that I'm not the one havin' to make that hard of a decision.".

Hindus persisted, "Autobot… is that title not supposed to insight courage in our sparks to fight our enemies at our borders? So why do we continue to run behind Prime?" he began to seeth.

Sarge spared a side smile with a snicker, "Check your optics soldier, you got three and you can't see that we ain't runnin' from nothin' son. We're gonna hold the line here as long as we can.".

Treader wasn't going to leave his brothers to fight it alone, "Well we're no Dinobots, or Omega Supreme, but I say I can outlive the rest of you. What do you say Hindus, wanna throw up another head bet?".

"Only if you want to lose again.".

Stormfront sighed, running a hand over his crowned mask, "I reckon it be six of one, and half a dozen of the other with these bastards, but I'll give a fair crack at the whip." he stretched his arms and wings readying for a hellish fight.

The four stood on the edge of the bridge watching the sunset on the City of Lacon standing on its last stilts as a few explosions blazed up.

"Sarge…" Hindus turned to his commander, "Permission to break that bubble head over my knee once and for all." his tone turning dark, such as the dimming sky.

Sarge rewarded his comrade with a toothy smile, "Save some for the rest of us this time! Let's finish these Decepticon bastards once and for all! We're Autobots after all!".

"Always, and forever!" Treader readied both his canons feeling a rejuvenated enthusiasm.

"Let's get on with it then!" Stormfront leaped off transforming into his jet form and zapping away.

"Treader, on me comrade.", Hindus readied to go, "Hold on tight Sarge. This will not be a gentle ride." he warned transforming. His head ducking into his chest and a windshield shifted into place. His arms and shoulders clicked and locked into position forming the weapon systems. And the propellers rattled as the mechanism arranged itself atop and whined as the blades began chopping air.

Treader leapt into the air transforming himself as he landed on the back of Hindus's helicopter form and locked himself on. His red armor added extra protection to his friend while his arms whirled in circles, canons extended out before positioning themselves onto the being an attached pair of jet propulsions.

Sarge grabbed on and the freedom fighters descended into the depths of war. Ready to avenge the fallen innocents, ready to retake the peace robbed from their lives.

As Autobots were meant to do.

As a writer I have learned one major element in stories that need careful attention, and that is the villains. Of course villains are the bad guys, and people don't like bad guys, only that is wrong. People do like villains to an extent, their background, their character arc, why they do what they do, and what made them choose their dark path.

P.S. Nazz 11 sorry to tease you more, but your reactions are too good my friend XD!
