Chapter 5: Dress, Shoes, Dance… And Alpha?

The next two weeks Alex spent mostly with Ben. He drove her to and from school, stayed for homework, came for dinner and took her out too.

"Dinner at your place tonight?" asked Ben.

"Sorry no. I am going to Missoula, shopping to the dance," said Alex.

"Not alone, I hope,"

"No, I am going with my best friend," she smiled.

"I didn't notice any close friend to you in school," stated Ben.

"He is not from school, he is one of the wolves,"

"He?"

"Yes,"

Ben made a face.

"Relax, he has a mate," said Alex, chuckling.

"O.k. have fun, then." Said Ben, kissing her lips lightly before heading to his next class.

Bran picked her up from school in his Humvee.

He growled as she got in.

"Hello to you too,"

"That boy…he is full of lust, I can smell it in his scent on you,"

"He is a teenage boy, what did you expect?" asked Alex, looking out of the window of the Humvee, watching the white town passing by.

"I know that, it just… smell wrong. Please be careful,"

Her expression softened. She was ready to snap at him, but then he showed her that he was just worried for her wellbeing.

"I will, promise,"

He smiled at her.

The rest of the drive they passed by talking about random subjects.

He had a lot of knowledge he gathered over the years, and she had her high IQ. The subjects seem to never end.

Eventually Bran parked in front of a shopping center.

Alex grabbed his hand and dragged him in to a big store of dresses.

Her eyes were shining looking at all of the fabrics, shapes and colors.

Bran sniffed the air.

"Something's wrong?" she asked worriedly.

"Nothing little wolf, do you have something on mind? Color… shape?" asked Bran.

"Blue, green, maybe gray, I am not sure,"

"Silver will look good on you, white too," suggested Bran.

"Your boyfriend is right, these colors will look great with your creamy skin, and will make your eyes pop out," said a woman, worker in the shop.

"Not boyfriend," they said together and burst out laughing.

"You fooled me," she smiled and showed her some dresses.

Alex looked in the mirror. It was her seventh dress.

"I don't know. I look like a bride," said Alex.

"You look beautiful," said Bran.

"You said that about the other six too," she frowned at him.

"Because it's true, you know that,"

"Then you choose," she sighed.

"O.k. give me a minute," said Bran.

He went through the racks and then pulled out a dress. He held it in front of her body, they both looking in the mirror.

"Try it," he suggested.

She went in to the changing booth.

After a moment, she huffed.

"Bran? I can't reach the stupid zipper,"

He chuckled and went in to help her.

Her heart skipped a beat when she felt his fingers brush her skin when he zipped the dress. She hoped he wasn't listening.

"Come look at yourself," he said softly.

She followed him to the mirror.

"Wow. You know your way around dresses,"

"Never said that ever again,"

She laughed.

"Well? Is that the one?"

"Definitely, thank you," she smiled at him.

"Good. Shoes and home?"

"Yep. Just help me get out of the dress and we can go find shoes,"

He chuckled and unzipped her.

They were walking to the shoes store.

He didn't know how to take the skip her heart did when he accidently touched her skin while zipping her dress.

"Silver or white?" asked Alex.

"What?" asked Bran.

She giggled.

"The shoes, silver or white?"

"Silver, that ones," he pointed on a not very high heels shoe.

She tried them.

"Perfect." She clapped her hands happily.

He smiled and after she paid for the shoes, they bought something to eat and drove home.

Alex got in to her house after thanking Bran and telling him good night. Putting her bags on the floor by the door.

She groaned when she saw a very unwelcome blond.

"Get out of my house," growled Alex.

"Bran is mine," growled Leah.

"I am not stealing him from you, get out of my house, now,"

"Stay away from my mate,"

Alex eyes were gray; she was growling loudly.

"Last time wasn't enough for you?"

"Last time I was new, I am not so new anymore," growled Alex and jumped.

She kicked Leah in the stomach and threw her to the floor.

Leah stood up, and punched Alex in the face.

Anna and Charles just came to see Alex, to invite her to their Christmas party.

"Do you hear that?" asked Anna.

"Yes, I am calling Da,"

"I will try to calm things down," said Anna and walked inside before he will protest.

The living room was a mess, and so were Leah and Alex.

Anna used her ability, and Alex froze just before she was about to kick Leah again.

Bran and Charles were at the door.

"I adore you Bran, I really do, you are my best friend, but if your idiotic mate will get in to my territory again, I will kill her," growled Alex and climbed the stairs to her bedroom without another word.

"Did you hear-"

"Go home Leah." Said Bran.

"But-"

"I already warned you that Alex is very dominant, but you still got in to her territory again. Go home, and stay away from Alex," the last part was an order of the Alpha.

She snarled at him but rushed out of the house.

Alex took her shirt off, moaning in pain while cleaning her bloody torso.

A knock on her door made her stop.

"Go away Bran, we had fun today, but right now, I don't want to see you,"

"Let me help," said Bran as he got inside and in to her bathroom.

At the moment, she was in her jeans and bra and nothing more. Her stomach and back were covered with blood and bruises.

Her nose was broken, and her jaw bruised.

Bran started to clean the blood from her body.

"I need to put your nose back in its place," said Bran.

As a response, she put her nose in place by herself.

Bran flinched at the sickly sound of click.

"Maybe I should just stay away, to keep Leah calm,"

She looked at him with teary eyes.

"Go ahead, why are you even here?! Go be with your stupid mate, make her happy while she makes all of your pack miserable. You think I didn't hear the stories already? When was the last time your sons were in your house when not job related? Who in your pack like her? who didn't she hurt in their first day here?"

Bran pursed his lips.

"Just go. Leave me alone, that what you wanted to do in the first place, right? So, go ahead, leave me alone, your mate will be happy,"

He just looked at her.

"Go! You can drop the act of caring for the poor orphan, I manage on my own before I came here, I can keep doing it from now on,"

"It wasn't an act, but Leah is my mate and I need to keep her happy,"

"So go! Why are you still here?! Leave!"

And one moment later he was gone.

Alex crushed to the floor, crying her heart out.

Anna and Charles were still downstairs.

"Who are you talking to? Bran or Alex?" asked Anna.

Charles had a pained look on his face.

Anna sighed.

"Fine, I will deal with both of them,"

"Thank you, I own you one," said Charles.

Anna snorted. "For this? For this you own me plenty," he rolled his eyes at her.

She climbed the stairs and knocked on the bathroom door, since the bedroom door was left open.

"I am fine Anna," called Alex.

"You know better than to lie to a werewolf," said Anna and opened the door.

She helped Alex clean the blood and bandage her wounds (she will only need the bandages for a few hours).

After that she help her change her clothes and get in the bed.

"Everything that you said to Bran was true and painful to him. But he doesn't have a choice, he can't be without a mate, his wolf demands it. The mate bond balance the beast, and Bran has a beast that if he takes over, people will die,"

Alex frowned at her in disbelief, until her eyes rounded when she connected the dots.

"The legends about the beast in the British Isles? That was Bran? My best friend? Our Alpha?"

"Yes. When he gained control, and came here, he eventually become the Marrok, met Charles mom, who was a werewolf and a native American shaman. She used her magic to stay human while pregnant with Charles, but it weakened her, and she died delivering Charles. Bran almost die with her, she was his first mate, then the wolf demanded another one, and Bran chose someone he could never love, but was good enough for his wolf," Anna finished her tale and watched Alex quietly.

"Stupid brat," she mumbled.

"Ah, I lost you,"

"How long are they mates?"

"More than a century,"

"He thinks of his wolf like a commune wolf, but our wolf part is a spirit, spirits are intelligent, and intelligent creatures wouldn't be satisfied with that kind of bond,"

"His wolf will cut it?" asked Anna.

"I believe so, when he will get tired of the challenges she puts him through, when the wolf will notice the suffer of his human part, after all, the human part it's what keep the wolf alive,"

"How did you come with this theory?" asked Anna.

"I started studying it after I joined the pack,"

"How?"

"Mostly communicating with wolves of other pack members, and I also talked with a friend of yours, a witch, Moira? She gave me some insights,"

"How did you find Moira?"

"I asked Charles a trustworthy witch to talk to,"

"Oh. We should wait and see what happen, do you mind if I share your theory?"

"Not at all. Thanks for the help,"

"Sure, good night," said Anna.

"Good night,"

Anna went to talk with Bran after that, she told him Alex's theory, and also gave him hope to repair their friendship, since now Alex knows everything and understands.

Bran on the other hand, said that he can't do anything about her theory until it will come true or not. He promised to think about their friendship, though.

Alex opened her eyes. She was laying on her side and found herself looking straight in to the hazel eyes of Bran.

"Hi there, old brat," she said softly, stroking his hair.

'I am so sorry'

She laughed. "It so freaks me out every time you do that,"

He smiled and got closer to her. Alex pulled him against her chest, warping her arms around him and kissing the top of his head.

"You are still my best friend, and nothing will change that,"

"Can I stay here?" asked Bran.

She covered him in her blanket as an answer. He kicked his shoes off, and they fell asleep like this, cuddled together.

The next day Alex woke up to the smell of pancakes.

She took a quick shower, thankfully her wounds healed although she was still sore.

She got dressed and went down to the kitchen.

"Good morning," said Bran.

"Morning, you slept o.k.?" she asked softly.

He nodded. She kissed his cheek and accepted the plate of pancakes he made for her.

"No school?"

"It's the dance tonight and I am too sore to go to school anyway, so I will skip it today,"

"With your brain, I wonder why you even bother with school,"

"Mostly because I like it," she shrugged.

He smiled.

"I have some things to do, but- I will be here this evening to take some pictures of you in the dress," he promised.

She giggled and watched him put his plate in the sink.

"See you later?"

"See you later," she agreed and watched him leave.

It was time. Alex was in her white dress, that was covered in silver glitter. The upper part was tight, and the rest of the dress was loose from her waist down to her silver heels.

She curled her hair, put some eyeliner, mascara and lipstick, and that was it.

She went down stairs, Bran was already there, taking a picture for every step she took.

She smiled at him.

"You look perfect, and your boy will knock on the door right… now,"

A knock came from the front door.

Bran opened it. Again, the scent of that boy was off to him.

'Be careful,'

Alex kissed his cheek and after a quick introduction they were in Ben's car and on their way to the dance.

Alex was dancing her night away. She had fun, although, her wolf was unquiet, like some danger was lurking in the shadows of the over lit gym.

"Let's get some fresh air," whispered Ben and she followed him outside.

Outside behind the school, two more students waited for them. One of them was holding his phone as a video camera.

"Ben, what's going on?"

"Turn," said Ben.

"I can't, I don't snap my fingers and turn in to a wolf," said Alex.

"I know, take your dress off and turn," said Ben.

"No,"

"No?" asked Ben pulling out a gun, "what about now?"

Alex stepped back, growling, her eyes stormy gray.

Asil, Anna and Charles got to Bran's door at the same time.

"Da!" called Charles.

Bran opened the door before they could knock on it.

"I felt it too, pure terror, Alex's," said Bran.

"She is supposed to be expert in martial art," stated Charles. As they filled the Humvee.

"She is in dress and heels," said Anna.

"It wouldn't have stopped her, unless she is against multiple opponents," said Asil.

"Silver bullets, that the only thing that will put such terror in her. She took down three werewolves on her first day as a wolf," said Bran, driving faster.

'We are coming little wolf, we are coming,'

"Have you seen her eyes? Keep filming,"

"Take your dress off or I will do it for you," said Ben.

"Fuck you," she growled.

He shot her leg.

Alex fell to the ground with a scream.

"Turn,"

"No,"

She tried to stand up when he shot her again, this time in the shoulder.

Her growls got louder.

He shot her again, this time in the stomach.

"Did you feel that?" asked Asil.

"She is in a lot of pain," said Anna.

"Yes, but after that, power," said Asil.

"I told you, she is extremely dominant. I don't remember the last female that I met that has such dominance to her, if I need to put her somewhere, I would say she is close to you Asil, or to Adam Hauptman, or maybe even between the two of you," said Bran, parking the car and following Asil out.

Asil always had the ability to find his pack members.

"Someone is coming, leave her," said one of Ben's friends.

Ben nodded, "Later bitch," he snarled and shoot another bullet to her stomach before running after his friends.

"Heard that?" asked Anna.

"Gun shot," said Charles and they started to run after Asil.

'Alex!'

"God Bran, shut up, you exploded my brain," she chocked when he got to her side.

"Silver?" he whispered stroking her hair.

"Yes. Leg, shoulder, two- two-" she chocked.

"In the stomach, I see, I see," he whispered, picking her up.

She growled; eyes stormy.

He growled back, making her whine.

"Call your brother, he should be in town for Christmas already," ordered Bran, but Charles was already on the phone with his older brother, Dr. Samuel Cornick.

They drove to the clinic in town. Bran laid her on the bed, as Samuel got in.

She growled at Samuel. Bran growled at her again, and she quieted, whining.

Charles pulled Asil out, "too much dominants wolves," he said.

"Bran?" whispered Alex.

"I am right here, little wolf," he stroked her hair.

"Hold her Da, I need to get the bullets out, before she could change and heal," said Samuel.

Bran held her down, while Samuel did a quick work on her wounds.

Sometime after the second bullet Alex fainted.

Bran was stroking her hair when she opened her green eyes.

"Change, little wolf, you will heal faster," said Bran softly.

"Can't," she whimpered.

"Shhh… you will be o.k. change," he ordered, and she started to change.

"Wow, pretty," said Samuel looking at the silver wolf.

Alex was growling at them.

"Anna," called Bran.

Anna washed Alex with a wave of calmness.

She stopped growling and started to whine.

Bran chuckled softly and stroked her furry head.

"Ready to go home?"

she nodded her head.

Bran led her to the car.

"We will walk home, she is sensitive now, she wouldn't feel comfortable with so many dominant wolves," said Charles.

"Thank you," said Bran.

"Good night Da,"

"Good night," he nodded to them and opened the passenger door to the Humvee for Alex.

She climbed in slowly, too hurt to move much.

Bran drove her home and put some raw steaks on a plate that he placed on the floor.

Alex ate the meat slowly while Bran watched her carefully from the couch.

When she finished eating, she climbed with a whine to the couch and put her head in his lap.

"Sleep little wolf, it will be better in the morning,"
