Chapter 7: Some Truths
Asil looked at Bran.
"Did you notice that half of the time you are with Alex?"
"She is my friend and one of my wolves, she still needs me around," answer Bran.
"Have you noticed that every time you have sex with Leah you go afterward to Alex, so you can get yourself cover with her scent?" asked Asil.
"Are you following my sex life?" growled Bran.
"No. But I can tell if you had sex with Leah if we happen to meet afterward, but the scent of sex and Leah always additional to the strong scent of the little wolf. You have a need to cover yourself in her scent…" Asil's eyes widen.
"It's not your need, it's your wolf's. Bran, your wolf wants HER," said Asil.
"No. no, that's impossible, I control my wolf and I have a mate," protested Bran.
"Your wolf isn't a stupid beast, he makes you do it from your subconscious, it's like an under-thought, under-instinct," said Asil.
"It means that I don't have control over my wolf, I-I… I have to go," said Bran and run out side.
Bran rushed to the woods. Alex saw him, turned off the car and rushed after him.
She managed to grab his arm, but he pulled away from her.
"Bran," she said and then she heard it. He was gasping and panting.
Alex pulled him to her arms, hugging him tightly.
"Shh… it's a panic attack, honey, Shh…" she soothed him, stroking his head.
They sank to the snow, Bran still panting in her arms.
Alex started to sing the first song that came to her head.
"Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go…" (Let her go- Passenger watch?v=Ginx7WKq5GE).
Bran's panting quietened.
"Feeling better?" she asked softly.
He just nodded.
She kissed the top of his head.
"My theory is happening, and it's crushing on you, doesn't it?" she said softly.
He hugged her tighter, needing to feel her closer.
"It's o.k. you will be fine," she promised him.
Suddenly his phone started to ring.
"Want me to answer it?" asked Alex.
He didn't answer, so she pulled his cellphone from his jeans pocket and answer it.
She didn't look at the caller ID.
"Bran Cornick's phone," she said.
"What are you doing with my mate's phone?!"
"Ah, Leah."
"Let me talk with Bran," growled Leah.
"He doesn't feel very well," said Alex.
"LET ME TALK TO MY MATE RIGHT NOW!"
"He isn't anymore… even through the phone I can hear the lie,"
"Shut up-"
"One second," she cut her off.
Bran closed his eyes, he couldn't feel Leah location anymore, the only thing he got through the bond with her.
He reached for the phone.
"Leah," he said.
"What did you do?" asked Leah.
"I didn't do anything, my wolf did. He cut our bond," said Bran.
"So bring it back," said Leah.
"I can't, he doesn't want you anymore,"
"It's because that slut you are hanging out with," growled Leah.
Alex growled.
"Enough Leah. My wolf never was like any other wolf, he is more demanding, more feral, if he cut the bond, there is no way for me to start the bond again,"
"What it's means for me? I am still your wife,"
"I will sign the divorce papers soon, my wolf wouldn't let me be mate less for long,"
"You were mate less before, and for years,"
"It wouldn't work for long this time, not since the deal with Asil's witch, a few years ago, he will never let himself get vulnerable again," said Bran.
"I won't be at the bottom of the pack," she growled.
"You already are; the mate bond is gone. I can find you another pack if you wish that, or you can stay with us," said Bran.
"I am moving out of the house, but not of the pack, I hope your slut is happy!" she hanged up the phone.
Bran groaned.
"Come on, I will drive you home," said Alex, helping him to stand up.
"Can I stay at your house?" asked Bran.
"Always, you know that," she smiled and led him back to the car.
Asil was waiting for them by the car.
"There was some shifting in the pack's bonds," said Asil.
"I have lost my mate, the wolf cut our bond," said Bran.
Asil opened his mouth but then-
'Alex is not my mate, so keep quiet,'
Asil shut his mouth and watched Bran getting in to the passenger seat.
Alex looked at Asil.
"It's my fault, isn't it? I ruined everything for him," she whispered.
"No. I believe you may actually make it better for him, just… listen to your wolf carefully, I think she is trying to tell you something for a very long time, you are just too new to know how to listen to her," he smiled at her.
"I don't get it, but thanks anyway, merry Christmas,"
"Merry Christmas, little wolf,"
Alex drove quietly for a while.
"None of it was your fault," said Bran.
"You heard that?" she frowned.
"You whisper too loud," he smiled.
She stuck her tongue at him, making him laugh.
"There he is, the Bran I know and love, not the gloomy one from the woods,"
He grinned at her and she giggled.
The next few months, Bran spent at Alex's house, sometimes cuddling with her at night, but mostly in his own room.
He gave Leah time alone, to pack her stuff and leave the house in to one of the spare houses in town.
The divorce papers were signed, and Bran felt… alone. Not lonely, he had his pack, family and Alex, that was kind of both, but he didn't have a mate, and it's been a long time since he didn't have one.
"So… what is the thing you miss in a mate bond? Is it the sex?" asked Alex.
She was laying on her couch, her head resting on Bran's lap.
He looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
"What? I am curious,"
"Mate bond it's much more than just sex," said Bran.
"How should I know? I never have neither of those,"
"Virgin? Really?" asked Bran with a grin.
She pinched him, "Don't sound so surprise," she punched him too.
"Hey! Enough with the violence!" he protested.
"Then shut up. Not my fault that I am still a virgin,"
"Explain something to me," he stroked her hair.
"What?"
"Why people these days see being a virgin at seventeen as a bad thing?"
"The times has change, but the society still dictate the way of life. So, in these days, most people lose their virginity in high school, as teenagers in the best case,"
"And in the worst case?"
"I had a girl in my English class at my former school that was fourteen in her first time,"
He made a face.
"Yeah, fourteen is a child," said Alex.
He nodded.
"Had a lot of boyfriends?" asked Bran.
"Didn't have much time for boyfriends with all the studying, reading and training, but the few I had, it usually was cut short,"
"Really? Why? You are a great girl," he tilted his head in a wolfish gesture.
"Thanks. Mostly because they wanted more than I could give, more time, more parties, more intimacy,"
"Their lost," he shrugged, and she laughed.
Bran was about to say something when his eyes turned gold.
"Bran?" asked Alex, sitting up.
"No,"
"What…" her voice trailed off when she understood.
"His wolf?"
"Yes,"
"Bran said you doesn't talk,"
"Never. Now yes."
"Why now?" asked Alex. She wasn't afraid, but she was confused.
"You."
"Because of me?" asked Alex.
"Yes,"
"Why?" asked Alex.
"Need mate, you. Good mate,"
"Me? His mate? I am not," said Alex.
"Yes."
"You want me to be his mate?" asked Alex.
"Yes."
"But my wolf-"
"I want, she wants,"
"She wants you as mate?" asked Alex.
"Yes. You not know,"
"I don't know what?" she asked with confusion.
"Listen her, too small,"
"O.k. can I get Bran back?" asked Alex with a frown.
The hazel eyes showed up.
"What…? My wolf took over. Are you o.k.?" asked Bran framing her face in his hands.
"Yeah… we had a talk,"
"A talk? My wolf doesn't talk,"
"He really barely does," she giggled, "Five words a sentence top, bad grammar, awful really,"
"You are stalling, what did he say?"
"O.k." she sighed.
"He said that he wants me as your mate, that I will be a good mate to you, that my wolf wants it too… he said something like, 'not know listen, too small,' I didn't fully get that…" her voice trailed off.
"What?" asked Bran.
"Asil said something similar months ago, at Christmas. That I am too new to know what my wolf trying to tell me,"
She tilted her head in thought. Bran couldn't stop himself from finding it cute.
"I guess it could mean the same as 'not know listen, too small,' right?"
"Maybe. But you can't be my mate," said Bran.
"What? Why not?" asked Alex, she was hurt.
She wasn't good enough, but Leah was?
"Never mind, forget it I- I… I need some air," said Alex and rushed outside before he could say another word.
