Ch.13: The Oni Falls

Back in New York, unaware of the chaos that his brother was facing back in the Nexus, Leonardo tried hard to keep calm and focus in on his own dire situation as he watched the Oni beast keep on crawling its way through the city, leaving destruction and devilish mutations in its wake, not caring for those that he passed.

In the leader's mind, he prayed that Mikey's distraction plan would work, and hoped that both Donnie and Rockwell came back soon with the improved retro-mutagen now in their hands. Until they returned though, this was the only option. And though there was a risk, they had no choice but to take this chance.

Everyone was in position. Now was the moment. It was time to bring this monster down!

Giving the signal, Casey went first, firing exploding pucks from a nearby roof straight into the Oni's face. The monster screamed as the pucks did little damage, halting its flow, allowing enough time for Mikey, Leo, and Slash to target three of the beast's legs, adding more pain to the creature and slowing its progress more.

To help out, after slicing at the Oni with their nunchucks and swords, Mikey and Leo busted open two fire hydrants when they landed on the streets, creating a barricade of water that as soon as it touched the Oni caused its body to begin to bubble and burn.

"It's weakened!" said Leo, both in triumph and surprise.

By accident, he and his brother discovered that water could hurt the creature, yet the damage wasn't sufficient, and there wasn't enough water located in the middle of the city to effectively bring the monster down.

"Keep firing pucks Casey!" yelled Leo. " Mikey! Slash! We need to continue keeping him distracted until Donnie comes."

The Oni glared, annoyed with its attackers, as it fired back, shooting out fearsome flames from its maw. Leo, Casey, and the others immediately ducked behind a structure in order to save themselves from the assault.

Hopefully the purple-banded turtle and the genius monkey Rockwell would be here soon because, although Leo couldn't know it, things were just getting started, and a few more minutes would lead to all of their doom.

"Hang on Leo, we're on our way," thought Don as he and Rockwell left the lair, sprinting back to where the battle was taking place.

Rockwell's insight to what created the dark mutagen had proven to be very helpful indeed. Hypnotized, Shredder had been using the improved version of his brainwash formula, and combined it with several samples of powerful mutant DNA, making for a very dangerous concoction, resulting in the massive beast ravaging through town and his dark powers, which hopefully Splinter was handling well in a private fight of his own.

Hopefully, with this stronger version of the retro-mutagen in hand this creature would be brought down, and New York would return to its normal self.

Don only prayed now, as he and Rockwell got closer to the battle scene, that Leo, Casey and the others were still doing alright.

Breathes echoed in relief once he spotted his brothers and that they didn't appear to be harmed. However, though they weren't in physical pain, that didn't mean that they weren't facing trouble, as the Oni continued to breathe down viciously with its hellish flames.

Nodding to Rockwell that they needed to take action, Donatello prepared to administer the cure.

"Hey!" Casey shouted to Leo and the others, noticing the cavalry had finally come to their aid.

"Rockwell!" Slash exclaimed in relief as the monkey levitated over to the creature, using his telepathy to gather up multiple objects that would great heavy damage against the beast.

Ignoring his leader's shout in order to focus on his task, Rockwell took careful aim to what he considered the Oni's weak spot, and then blasted out all of the objects he had gathered towards that specific area with the fierce ferocity of speeding lead.

Inhuman cries of pain reeked through the air, as the Oni's body was pelted by the relentless barrage. The fiery flames blasting from its mouth stopped, allowing Leo and the others a brief relief of fresh air.

Although relieved they were out of danger for the moment, Leo knew that he and the others had to rejoin the attack as he noticed Rockwell gather up more objects to deliver a second assault.

Donatello was nowhere in sight, which means he was counting on them to act before he jumped in to make his move with the retro-mutagen.

Understanding the plan instantly, Leo shouted to the others and they resumed their strike against the Oni, attacking on multiple fronts. Casey firing his pucks, Leo, Mikey, and Slash attacking the creature's legs, and Rockwell pelting the Oni with any heavy object he could find.

The Oni growled again, crumbling to the ground in great pain, trying to regenerate some of its strength so it could eliminate the pests pestering its sides.

Opening its mouth in order to release a massive stream of power, the monster barely had time to react as Donatello finally took his chance and leaped out of the shadows, throwing the retro-mutagen straight into the Oni's gaping maw.

The canister containing the retro-mutagen exploded, spreading the ooze everywhere it could reach inside the Oni's form. One last roar came out as the Oni finally collapsed and its form began to melt and decay.

Cheers rang out as Leo watched on with his brothers, relieved that the monster was finally gone.

"No!" screamed Shredder, stopping his attack on Splinter as soon as he felt the Oni fall.

Splinter breathed out a sigh of relief, confused, yet grateful, that Saki had paused in his assault. It was tough fighting in this dark abyss. With Shredder's powers, and their long years of experience knowing each other's moves, it was difficult to find an advantage in order to deliver a fatal strike.

Splinter worried as he thought of the danger his sons faced in the real world. That Oni beast was terrible, it had to be brought to an end. All while fighting the ninja rat continued to pray on quietly in his mind.

"Please, please, someway…let my sons stop the threat,"

Now, gauging by the Shredder's reaction, Splinter could only guess that his wish had managed to come true. The Oni was down, and Shredder's connection to the creature, left him vulnerable to an unexpected assault.

Finally, this is where it could end, putting a stop to the Shredder's reign of terror once and for all.

However, before Master Splinter could get the chance to make his move, something mysterious suddenly occurred.

A light flashed, eyes glowed. Claws came out of the darkness, and suddenly Shredder disappeared. The abyss faded around Splinter, slowly transferring him back to the horrors of reality.

The cheers Leo and the others expressed as they watched the Oni melt away were replaced by gasps of terror, as the massive pile of black ooze began to glow, and Shredder materialized above it.

Without warning, the glowing ooze reached out to grab Shredder, entangling his arms and legs, before pulling the villain down deep, deep below it. A scream rang out as Shredder died, visions of his past and future flowing before his brain.

"You served me well" hissed out a voice " now the time has come for me to emerge."

Shredder barely had time to register that voice before his body passed out and his life was gone, taken over as a demon burst, and from the ooze, began to emerge.

Stunned gazes looked up as a large figure came out, dragon-like with blood red scales, as his yellow eyes gazed down, looking at the pitiful resistance set to confront him on the streets.

"Finally, after all these years, Kavaxas has returned. This world belongs to the dragons. Any other creature must die."
