Chapter 2: Hunter Killer

So...Hell's chosen soldier has a heart after all...interesting. I guess I should raise the stakes and put him into a position where he's forced to kill without hesitation. Yes, that should work quite nicely…" the Entity rambled to herself as she observed one of the Legion being spared by the Doom Slayer.

The bleak darkness of night was met by the Doom Slayer as his new battleground formed from the black mist that shrouded him. The sights of various construction structures and the like gave him a feel for the land in how to traverse it. It wasn't long before sudden noises made themselves apparent with the sound of a whirring chainsaw and the loud clacking of traps being set got his attention. Pulling out the Legion knives, he readied himself for combat. As he carefully moved through the large hunting ground, other sounds began soaring with the flow of the wind such as the sounds of engines and laborious groans.

As he slowly crept up on a generator that was slowly churning to life, he noticed that individuals working on it had no masks nor did they give off a sinister aura about them as they worked together.

"Civilians…?" the Doom Slayer thought as he observed, trying to catch sight of anything that would appear threatening. Suddenly, a loud shout of agony came from the distance with the loud snapping sound of something causing it to join in. Breaking into a sprint, he quickly located a man who looked like he brawler people in the streets, whose leg was trapped in a bear trap, the menacing sounds of a terror radius filling the Doom Slayer ears as a buff man in a strange mask came from the shadows, a crude machete in hand as he approached the survivor and cut him down.

Activating Feral Frenzy, the Doom Slayer shot from his hiding place, immediately zoning in on the monstrous man with intense speed and ferocity. The booming sounds of the Doom Slayer's terror radius immediately caught the Trapper's attention, quickly turning to knock away several hard knife swings from the Doom Slayer but unable to keep up with his speed. Loud slices of knives carving into flesh filled the small area, loud, horrific growling leaving the mask of the Trapper as he left with a quick retreat. The Doom Slayer suddenly suffered the cool down recoil of Feral Frenzy, only burdening him for a few seconds before turning his attention to the groaning survivor on the ground.

Noticing the bear trap, the Doom Slayer pocketed the knives and easily tore the trap open, picking up the survivor and tossing him over his shoulder without a word.

"You saved my ass whoever you are, thanks," David groaned, still in immense pain as the Doom Slayer gave him a nod, unsure of where to leave the injured man. In the midst of searching for a safe place, Claudette managed to spit the two of them, David calling out to her to come over so she wouldn't try to run.

"It's OK now, put me down, this girl will heal me," David reassured the Doom Slayer, who quickly laid him out on the ground before requipping his knives and charging off into the field.

"Who the heck was that?" Claudette inquired as she began applying first aid, a smirk forming on David's pained face.

"I have no clue, but I did watch him tear into the Trapper though with some knives, he made him run away like a little girl," David joked, Claudette's expression growing more uneasy from the info.

"That's...kind of terrifying," Claudette replied. Following the sounds around him, the Doom Slayer heard the satisfying chime of a generator completely springing to laugh, which was immediately drowned about by the terrifying sounds of a chainsaw scraping on metal. Following the sound, the Doom Slayer immediately spotted more survivors running for their lives, a somewhat deformed man chasing after them with his chainsaw held high over his head. A terrified girl with reddish brown pigtails failed to turn her gaze to ground as she ran, the loud snapping of a trap causing her to scream blood murder before the Hillbill was now towering over her.

The Doom Slayer powered up once more, quickly dashing towards the two of them with intense ferocity. Meg clenched her eyes as the Hillbilly swung down with his chainsaw but was shocked to hear a gruff, inhuman scream come from the killer as the sound of skin and bone being severed sent the chainsaw flying over her shoulder as if it had been thrown with great strength. Opening her eyes, she saw the Hillbilly screaming, holding his handless arm with immense dread filling in his eyes as they turned to look at the Doom Slayer, who immediately went right for his head with both knives. The Hillbilly managed to dodge the vicious swings but as he tried to hobble away, the Doom Slayer quickly caught up to him, leaping forward and stabbing both knives into his back in a ferocious takedown. Stabbing him over and over, the Doom Slayer finally decide to end the inhuman torture, stabbing one knife through the back of the Hillbilly's neck and the other into the back of his skull, finally silencing him.

"Oh my God…" Meg said, immediately flinching fearfully as the Doom Slayer turned to her. Clenching her eyes shut and bracing herself for pain, she was pleasantly surprised to feel the bear trap being pulled apart to free her, her eyes now staring at her savior.

"Thanks a lot whoever you are, you saved my life," Meg sighed, grabbing a hold of the Doom Slayer's hand that offered to help her up.

"Don't worry, I can still move on my own. But...this is the first time I've seen two killers working together, I wonder what gives?" Meg was puzzled as the Doom Slayer silently walked past her. Putting away one of the knives, he grabbed the chainsaw off the ground, the Hillbilly's hand still attached to it as he gave it a whirl before silently nodding to himself. He unhinged the hand from it and tossed it to the ground, returning to his pursuit of the remaining killer still in the area.

The remainder of the trial seemingly went about its business without any difficulty as if the killer was no longer around to cause chaos. It wasn't until the loud, blood curdling scream of a survivor being impaled on a hook shook the air that there was any indication of the killer still being in the vicinity. The Doom Slayer immediately charged off towards the scream, finding a different man, this time dressed in dress clothes with a pair of ratty glasses on his nose.

"H-Hey! Can you please get me off this thing? It really hurts!" Dwight whined, the Doom Slayer pocketing the other knife to easily unhook the poor, bloodied survivor.

"Which way did the killer go...?" The Doom Slayer finally spoke, holding up Dwight so they were at eye level. He immediately began pointing over his shoulder nervously, saying that way over and over again. Giving him a nod, the Doom Slayer suddenly dropped Dwight on his ass, grabbing the knife to trigger Feral Frenzy, giving him the massive speed boost he needed to finally catch up to his prey. Dwight just sat there speechless, wondering what in the hell was up with this armor clad monster of a man.

"He could've put me down a little easier though…" Dwight groaned, rubbing his butt before finally returning to his feet to limp off and find the others. The Doom Slayer desperately seeked out the masked man from earlier as he ran through the structures of debris and construction structures, finally catching sight of him as he was approaching a group of survivors working on the final generator. As the Trapper felt the Doom Slayer's presence he immediately began running away, shouting incomprehensible words as he ran by the survivors on the generator, the Doom Slayer closing in with great speed. David quickly noticed that there was an unset trap just off to his left, which gave him a great idea on how to help his returning savior.

Using his manly strength, David managed to pry the trap open and activate it, waving at the two behemoths of men running nearby.

"Hey! Chase him over here!" David shouted, the Doom Slayer feeling to cool down from Feral Frenzy coming as he changed the trappers trajectory. Raising up and activating the chainsaw, the Doom Slayer fely a massive adrenaline rush, effectively cancelling the side effects of Feral Frenzy. The Trapper let out a ghastly wail as the trap David set snapped onto his leg, leaving him with no place to go. Fear filled this killer's eyes for the very first time as the Doom Slayer swung the chainsaw in a strong sweeping motion, the chain chewing through the Trappers body like a grindstone, his spine being the only resistance before finally giving out.

Chunks of flesh and viscera began pouring onto the ground through a massive mist of blood that rained on the survivors, all of them speechless with unbound horror in their eyes as they witnessed the gruesome dismemberment. The Trapper tried to crawl away, half his body now gone but the Doom Slayer moved to stand in his way, the Trapper's mask turning up to stare at him before his head was crushed in with a ferocious stomp, completing his demise. Though incredibly thankful, the now traumatized group of survivors quietly finished their tasking, the Doom Slayer leading them out of the trial grounds without saying a word.

Before leaving, both Meg and David gave him their thanks, each of them handing him a charm from their waists as a token of both gratitude and luck.

"I doubt these will mean anything to you, but for us survivors, they are symbols of triumph. Each one a survivor wears is a sign of making it through hell and back, even for just one night," David smirked, exiting out the gate.

"I'm pretty sure you don't need it, but good luck and be careful out there alright?" Meg encouraged, the Doom Slayer giving her a silent nod before she joined David out of the gate.

The Doom Slayer slipped them into one of his pouches before removing a long leather strap from a different pouch, creating a makeshift sling for the Hillbilly's chainsaw. Hook it over his shoulder, he gave his neck a quick pop before exiting the area, the dark mist consuming him once more.
