Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are few. For the gate is narrow and the way is wide that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matthew 7:13-14
I think that this illustration of the gates has two meanings. The first, widely known meaning, symbolizes the choice we all must make between heaven and hell. The path to Heaven may be hard at times, but it is the way of life. The wide gate is the way of the world. The way of Satan. The easier path. The way to destruction.
The second meaning applies to our walk as Christians. Ever day, every moment, we are given a choice to obey God or fall to temptation. The narrow gate is the harder, yet right choice. The wide gate is the wrong, easy choice.
We are told to choose the narrow gate. It may be difficult, but we will always be rewarded for making the right choice. What choice will you make today? Which gate will you choose?
