This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
John 15:12
Love one another, Jesus said. I think we often lose sight of this rule in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. We push someone who pushed us; snap at people for no real reason; refuse to help others.
We are told to love like Jesus and in the four gospels we get a very clear picture of Jesus' love. He loves with agape (a-gap-ay) love, unconditional love that is not based on how we feel. Jesus always loved like that. He never retaliated, though He certainly had the power to do so. He was loving toward those who hated him and wanted him dead. He served others all the time. He even gave his life for us, the ones who hated him, so we could live.
As Christians we should never hate other people. Hate is has never been part of the Gospel, and it never will be. We should always act like Jesus toward others. We should always serve others. Always, we should love.
