And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

Matthew 6:7

When we pray we should not try to make it sound grand and important. Sounding smart will not make God pay any more attention to our prayers. God knows what we need before we even ask. Instead we should pray simply, from the heart. We don't need fancy phrases and words.

The Pharisees prayed loudly, trying to make people notice them and think that they were so important and esteemed, but inside they were full of greed and hypocrisy. A true prayer comes from the heart of a Christ-like follower. Someone who is like a child.
