Chapter 37: Shots Fired (Kelly's POV)

"For I know the plans I have for you..."
Jeremiah 29:11

In the scuffle, I was separated from Michelle and left alone guarding the stairs while she fought in the living room. I knew the kids, Lafayette and Klaus, were upstairs. Klaus could be good in the fight, but I wasn't sure about Lafayette. At least Klaus could protect them up there if anyone got past me.

I had a decent vantage point from where I was to shoot a couple of the hunters that tried to come through the kitchen. There were two demons trapped in devil's traps between the front door and where I was. The second demon had run around the first, dodging the trap at the front door that caught the first but didn't see the smaller trap on the ceiling. The second demon was caught in it as they tried to lunge at me. It would have been comical if we weren't fighting for our lives.

I needed to deal with the demons. I knew it was only a matter of time before someone broke the trap, possibly even Gambit by accident with an explosion. I was trying to recall the exorcism when I caught sight of my coat hanging by the door and remembered the angel blade Dean had given me was still in the pocket.

I darted around the demons, grabbing the angel blade from my coat. I crossed the trap line by the door and ducked as the first demon took a swing at me. I moved up and stabbed down with the blade, watching as the demon electrified from the inside. The body dropped dead as I pulled out the blade. I spun, ready to stab the second demon when I was thrown off my feet and into the wall by the stairs. The back of my head smacked off the wall and I swore I heard Dean yell before I blacked out for a moment.

I came to as I heard another Gambit fuelled explosion somewhere outside the house. As my vision cleared I saw the angel blade on the floor between me and the second demon...who was now dead on the floor. I definitely did not do that. I heard the crackle of another demon being killed and saw Dean pulling out what looked like Ruby's knife from the body.

I sighed in relief, happy for Winchester backup. My vision blurred again, and I blinked hard forcing myself to focus. I needed to get back up on my feet and block the stairs.

Dean appeared in front of me, dropping to my level and reaching to check my head, "are you okay?"

"I think?"

He pulled his hand back from the back of my head, "you're not bleeding."

"Good."

I pushed myself to stand with his assistance while looking around for more attackers. My vision landed on a hunter who was raising his gun to shoot. I pulled my own gun taking aim, but a moment too late. The hunter got his shot off as my own bullet hit him in the neck, my aim imperfect in my rush to shoot. As he hit the floor, I looked to where he had shot and saw Michelle looking stunned. A red patch blossomed over her stomach and she started to fall. "Mish!"

I felt myself running forward before my brain even registered what I was doing. I grabbed Michelle, holding her face in my hands, "you're going to be okay Mish." Dean was already beside me, applying pressure to the wound, trying to stop the bleeding. There was so much blood already. I shook Michelle's face trying to keep her conscious, "come on, you can't do this."

I felt tears falling down my face. There was another crash somewhere outside, and I saw Spike fighting in the kitchen. It was night. The vampires were up. Michelle tried to say something more to me but lost consciousness.

"ERIC!" I screamed so loud my voice cracked. He appeared next to me, startling Dean with his speed. "You need to give her your blood. Now."

Dean looked from me to Eric, who was already biting his own wrist. "No fucking way you're turning her."

"It won't. His blood doesn't work like that."

Eric had his wrist pressed to Michelle's mouth, ignoring Dean completely, and was forcing her to drink his blood. I felt more tears falling down my face, praying this would work. That it wasn't too late.

I realized Gambit's explosions seemed to have stopped, and hoped that meant the attack was over. Dean let go of the pressure on Michelle's stomach, the blood had stopped gushing. He grabbed my arm and I looked at him, but he was staring at the stairs.

Chloe was halfway down, looking panicked. She yelled my name, and I was about to scream at her to go back to safety when she vanished. I blinked. How did she just vanish?

Jane came through the front door and was rushing towards us when she vanished too. It looked almost like when Five blinked away. How hard did I hit my head?

"What the fuck is happening" I heard myself say the words, but felt detached from the situation.

Dean turned and looked at me, tears now in his eyes. "Don't you dare leave me too."

I opened my mouth to question what he meant when Eric interrupted us. "She's alive. She'll come to in a moment. There are still more attackers outside. I will deal with them."

I nodded to the angel blade on the floor. "Take that. It will kill demons."

Eric nodded back and took off. Michelle shot up then, gasping for air. I lunged forward catching her in a crushing hug.

"What...what happened?"

I pulled back, still holding her by the shoulders, "Eric gave you his blood. It was the only way. Something else is happening though."

Dean had stood up and moved to stand behind Michelle, looking ready to help her up if she needed it. He was covered in blood, and I fleetingly wondered what I looked like

Michelle's voice came out weak, "are they gone?"

"What do you mean gone?"

Michelle stood up quickly with a speed I could only assume was enhanced by Eric's blood and took off running upstairs. I stood to follow her, slipping slightly in the blood on the floor, but Dean pulled me back. I looked at him and realized something was really wrong.

"Sam...he's gone. He had to...to get Lucifer in the cage. It was the only way."

The pieces fell into place. Why they weren't answering our calls. The "reckless" plan Dean had mentioned. Why Dean had Ruby's knife, and most importantly why Sam wasn't here right now. Tears were falling down his cheeks soaking his face. He continued, "I was supposed to keep you and Michelle safe. I promised him. Then I get here and see all this."

I pulled him into a hug, and he buried his face in my neck. I spoke, barely above a whisper, "it's okay. We're safe".

I didn't know if either statement was anywhere near true. Nothing felt real at this moment. I questioned if I was still actually knocked out by the stairs dreaming this. Dean collapsed slightly in my arms, crying harder and I held him tighter. This felt too real in the wrong ways.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Michelle on the stairs, watching us. No one had followed her from the bedrooms, and she didn't seem surprised that only Eric and Spike seemed to be left.
