A/N: I've been listening to a disgusting amount of Ryan's Roses segments on the radio lately, which inspired this.

By the time Beca had left the campus radio station to head back to her dorm room that evening, she'd forgotten about the radio segment she and Jesse had been a part of earlier that day. Even though the radio segment was fairly new, the excitement had already sort of worn off: calling people to offer them a free bouquet of flowers to see if they'd send them to their significant other (who had written in and suspected them of cheating), or if they'd send them to someone else, which sometimes started a big screaming match over the radio.

Today's episode had been one of the dramatic ones, but there hadn't been a screaming match. The girl who'd called in suspecting her girlfriend had been right about the cheating, and had been broken up with right there over the air. Beca and Jesse had shared a glance in the booth as Luke offered condolences and then had awkwardly ended the segment by cutting off both parties, but then they had all just gone about their days, forgetting about the drama.

But as quickly as she'd forgotten it, it suddenly came right back to her. Beca was startled out of her thoughts of what she'd try working on that evening from a small, timid tap on her arm. She hadn't even noticed the girl at her side, walking in stride next to her.

"Oh, uh hey," she said, turning to the girl. "What's up?"

"You're Beca, from the campus radio station?" the girl asked, and Beca nodded.

"And you're..."

"I'm Emily." The girl shifted in her spot a bit before meeting Beca's eyes. "I'm the one who called in for this morning's Luke's Lilies segment."

Beca took a moment to remember before nodding. "Oh, yeah. Dude, I'm sorry. Your ex sounded like a total dick."

Emily shrugged. "I'm just glad we found out the truth. But um...I wanted to say thanks for it."

"No problem," Beca said. A beat lapsed between them, and Emily shifted in her spot again.

"I, uh, should probably go now," Emily said, breaking the silence. Beca nodded.

"Same here," she said. There was that editing she'd been wanting to do...and yet, even after she and Emily had parted ways, she hadn't done it. She couldn't do it. All Beca could think about was the poor girl she'd listened to get broken up with over the air, who had met up with her after she'd gotten off work to thank her for helping with her relationship drama. She felt bad for her but she also felt...the first lowkey tugs of affection for her?

"She's probably not going to want to think about relationships for a long time," Beca muttered to herself, as she took her headphones off and placed them on her desk, "especially after what just happened."

She frowned at her laptop before closing it, the media project she'd been working on staying as unedited as it had when she'd tried to begin hours earlier. She left her desk and crawled into bed, feeling tired but unable to get the girl off her mind.

Luke's Lily's was a once a week segment, and not a single day had passed in that time that Emily had not been on Beca's mind. The next segment was a lot tamer (there had been no cheating this time, surprisingly), but Beca still could only think of the call with Emily and the bitch who had cheated on her. She still felt so bad; at the same time, she felt like she'd be ten times the girlfriend to Emily if she'd—

"Beca, hi!"

Beca blinked, looking up from her feet to see Emily at her side again. She felt her heart leap, but wanted to play it cool.

"Oh, uh, hey," she said. "What's up?"

"Just wanted to say hey again," Emily said with a grin.

Beca smiled back; the grin was infectious. "Well, hey. How are you doing?"

"I'm good! I actually feel a lot better now that you know who is out of my life," Emily replied. Beca bit her tongue on making a joke from Emily's words, nodding instead.

"I'm glad to hear that," she said instead. "You deserve it."

"Thanks," Emily said, as the girls started walking again. "And how are you?"

Beca clamped down on her tongue again to try to keep the response she wanted to say from getting out, instead just shrugging and trying to play it cool. "I'm okay, just busy with my projects and the internship."

Emily nodded. "You always look like you have a lot on your plate. You always seem so deep in thought whenever I see you on campus."

"You have no idea," Beca muttered, immediately making a face at her slight slip up.

"What?" Emily asked, but Beca shook her head.

"Nothing," she replied. Emily caught a side glance of Beca, still wondering what was going on in her head. They walked in silence for a beat, before Emily broke the silence again.

"Beca, would you like to hang out sometime? Maybe you could show me some of your projects or something."

"Yes," Beca replied, too quickly, and made a face again. "I mean, sure, that'd be cool."

Emily grinned again. "Okay, cool." She stopped and pulled out her phone. "What's your number?"

Beca pulled out her own phone, reciting her number to the girl. She waited as Emily input her number and felt relief as Emily's text came in a moment later (it was just an emoji and a music note, but in that moment, it didn't matter).

"Okay, text me when you wanna hang out," Emily said, and Beca nodded. "See you soon."

She watched Emily head off towards the dorms, trying to decide how long was the right amount of time before texting that she'd be ready to hang out so she didn't look too desperate.

Luckily she didn't have to think about it for too long, feeling relief again as she saw a text notification from Emily light up her phone.

A/N: This'll maybe eventually be continued/sequeled but I really just wanted to get the main idea for now since the inspiration hit me and just go from there. Thanks for reading!
