Summary: Bella wasn't always the bad girl she is today, she was good and shy until her mother walked out on her and her father six years ago.
Her father, Charlie, is struggling to handle his daughter's behavior, so he calls his army friend in hopes he can get Bella on the right path again. Will Carlisle be able to reign in his friend's angry and broken daughter back in with some hard discipline and love?
Isabella was a shy, good girl, that was until her mother left her and her father when was 12.
Ever since her mother left, Bella has been acting up, stealing from stores, skipping school, breaking curfew, among other things, her attitude has also been a problem and her father, Chief of police, doesn't know how to punish her and bring her back from the edge she's dangerously close to going over.
"Isabella Marie!" Charlie Swan shouts to his daughter. Bella comes walking into the kitchen with a smile. "Yeah Dad?" She asks sweetly. Charlie gestures to the chair opposite him. "Take a seat, Kiddo." Bella takes a seat and looks at her father. "You missed curfew last night again." Charlie says, Bella rolls her eyes. "By ten minutes, Jesus Christ Dad, can't you just give me a break?" Bella snaps. Charlie sighs. "Bella, I've given you one too many breaks, if you continue down the road you're going, it's not gonna be good for you." Bella stands up, knocking her chair back.
"And what road am I going down dad? What pissing road am I on?!" Bella shouts in anger. Charlie rubs his mustache and looks at his angry daughter with a sad expression on his face. "Bella, everything you've done since Mom left is getting too much for me too handle, I've given you the benefit of the doubt and tried to let you get away with so much but it's clear that me being soft hasn't done you a lick of good so maybe some hard discipline will help." Charlie tells his confused daughter. "What are you talking about, Daddy? I don't understand?" Bella says. "My army buddy, Carlisle Cullen, has agreed to be your new guardian for a while because I can't take it anymore, Bella. Maybe some time away from Forks will do you some good, as well as some hard discipline, he has my permission to use any discipline he wants to reign you back in, maybe Carlisle will set you on the right path again." Charlie explains. He looks at his daughter who has her mouth open, angry tears in her chocolate brown eyes.
"Y..you're getting rid of me, just like Mom did?!" Bella whisper shouts, but before Charlie can reassure his angry daughter that he's doing no such thing, Bella is running out of the kitchen and up to her room, slamming her door shut.
Angrily shoving all her clothes, shoes, books, and other personal items into her massive suitcase and into her hand luggage, Bella sits on her bed, trying not to let the tears fall at the betrayal she's once again feeling. She hasn't felt this betrayed since her mom left six years ago without a look back. She remembers that day so clearly as if it happened yesterday.
Sunlight streams through the window downstairs, sitting at the window with her favourite book, Wuthering Heights, twelve year old Bella can hear her mother shouting at her father.
"I can't do this anymore Charles, not with you, and certainly not with that brat of a girl you call a daughter!" Bella winces as she hears her parents bedroom door slam and the sound of her mothers footsteps thundering down the stairs with a suitcase in her hand.
Putting her book down, Bella slides off the window sill and runs to her mother, grabbing the back of her coat to stop her from leaving. All of a sudden, Bella is flung across the living room by the force of her mothers slap to her face. "Mommy!" Bella shouts, cradling her cheek, tears in her eyes. Her parents have never raised their hands to her, not once.
"RENÈE!" Her daddy yells, running down the stairs to help Bella to her feet and glaring at his wife. "Have you lost your mind? How dare you slap an innocent little girl?!" Charlie Swan rages. "It was grabbing my new coat, I had to do something to get it off." Her mother says with a roll of her eyes. Charlie chuckles sarcastically. "Bella was trying to stop you from leaving, that's why she was grabbing your coat." Charlie says. Bella's mother scoffs before putting her hand on the handle of her suitcase and walking out of the door without an 'I love you' or a look back at her and her father, she just left.
The doorbell ringing brings her out of her memory. Bella can hear her father and another man, most likely Carlisle Cullen, speaking. Opening her door, Bella can hear the faint murmurs of conversation floating up the stairs.
"How's Bella doing?" That must be Carlisle, his voice is soft and warm like honey in a cup of tea. Bella hears her father sigh.
"Not good. Carlisle, I just don't know how to get through to her, I've tried everything, nothing has worked." Her father says tiredly.
"Have you tried spanking her?" Carlisle asks quizzingly.
"No, I can't bring myself to lay a hand on her, not after the day Renee left, you remember the slap her mother gave Bella when Bells tried to get her to stay?" Carlisle hums.
"Yeah I do." Her dad's Army friend says.
"Bells had a bruise on her cheek for a week because of the force of that slap. I can't spank her, Carlisle, I can't reopen years of old wounds that took my daughter months to recover from but you can use any punishment you deem necessary, whether that's grounding her, taking her phone off, including spanking her. Just bring her back from the edge, Carlisle, bring my little girl back to me." Her father is begging his old friend.
"I'll do what I can, Charlie, but at the end of the day, it's Bella who has to change, I can only help her so much." Carlisle explains.
"BELLS, GET DOWN HERE NOW!" Her father yells. Sighing, Bella gets her suitcase and her hand luggage bag, and takes one last look around her room with a mournful expression before putting her cold and cruel mask on to meet her new 'guardian.'
Walking downstairs, her suitcase banging against the wooden stairs, Bella sees her father standing with a tall, blonde man with blue eyes, both watching her as she descends the stairs.
"I'm packed." Bella says coldly, gesturing to her suitcase and backpack. Charlie sighs. "Carlisle, this is Bella, Bella, this is your new guardian, Carlisle Cullen." Neither men miss the tears that fill the teens eyes at the words 'new guardian.' Carlisle nods curtly at Bella. "Hi Miss Swan." Carlisle says, Bella rolls her eyes. "Are we going or not? I didn't spend my Thursday morning packing so I could stand around and make nice." Bella snaps, glaring at the two men. Carlisle nods. "Of course, I'll put your suitcase in the car while you and your father say goodbye." Carlisle takes her black suitcase and leaves the house with a nod directed at both of the Swans.
Bella looks out of the window and sees Carlisle putting her suitcase into a black Mercedes.
Rich bastard. Bella thinks to herself as she watches him.
"Bella." Her father says gently. Bella tears her eyes from the window and looks at her father. "You know why I'm doing this right?" Bella can't help chuckling. "Yeah, I know, it's because you're just like Mom, you leave when things get tough, you're just like her." Bella shouts before storming out of the house and into the black Mercedes, ignoring her fathers shouts as he follows her.
Maybe her father is right: maybe some time away from Forks will be good for her.
