Summary: Bella wasn't always the bad girl she is today, she was good and shy until her mother walked out on her and her father.

Her father is struggling to handle his daughter's behavior, so he calls his army friend in hopes he can get Bella on the right path. Will Carlisle be able to reign in his friend's angry and broken daughter back in with some hard discipline and love?

Bella knows she's in hot water with Carlisle.

Carlisle shuts her bedroom door behind him after dragging her in here by her arm with an angry expression on his face after she snapped at her tutor and swore at him.

"What did I fucking tell you Isabella? Huh, what did I tell you?!" Carlisle shouts at her. Bella flinches at his voice but doesn't say anything. "Well?" Carlisle barks at her. "What did I tell you would happen if you were disrespectful and gave me or your tutor attitude?" Carlisle is so angry, she's never seen him this angry, granted she just met him yesterday.

"I would get spanked, but you can't spank me because I'm an adult!" Bella shouts back at her guardian, who glares at her and speaks to her a little more calmly. "You may be an adult legally but you're acting like a spoiled child who doesn't care about anyone but herself, there's a reason why your father sent you here to get some well deserved and overdue punishment from me and do you know why?" He asks, pausing to give himself a chance to calm down before continuing. "It's because you've been so busy blaming your mother for leaving you, that you forget that she also left him too. You're so wrapped in doing things that will get your mothers attention, hoping that you're bad behavior will make her come waltzing back into your life, that you forget that Charlie is also suffering." Carlisle says to her softly, a sign that all of his anger has diminished. "The truth of the matter is your mother that is never coming back, nothing you do is going to get her attention, Isabella, it's been six years since she walked out, don't you think if you've got your mothers attention that she'd be back by now?" Carlisle asks gently. Bella goes to sit on her green bed, her legs drawn up to her chest, tears falling down her face at the realisation that her mother will never be coming back to her and her father no matter what she does, no matter how much trouble she gets herself into.

"I want you to stay in here and think about what you're going to do now that you've had a long overdue wake up call, come find me when you've thought." Carlisle says softly, kissing her forehead before walking out of her room.

Her fallen tears have long dried, she wept for two hours, letting out all the pain and abandonment she felt ever since her mother left her when she was 12.

Carlisle was right: she's been so wrapped up in grabbing her mothers attention for the past six years that she forgot that her dad has been hurting too. What kind of daughter has she been for the past six years?

Sighing and getting off her bed, Bella goes to find Carlisle who she finds sitting in the living room watching TV, Carlisle smiles as she sits on the other side of him. Carlisle, staying silent, wraps an arm around her and draws her closer to him.

"You spent a good two hours in your room, you okay?" Carlisle says, pausing the TV. Bella nods against his shoulder. "Yeah, I'm fine and I figured a lot of stuff out." She says quietly.

"What did you get figured out, if you don't mind me asking?" Bella lets out an exhale.

"You were right about my mother not coming back, after all I spent six years trying to get her attention by doing bad things and not once did it work, so I'm going to start turning my life around. I wanna go back to school, I wanna become a better daughter for my dad, I wanna change everyone's views about me." She says, yawning. "Take a nap, Isabella, I'll wake you up when lunch is ready." Carlisle says gently, apparently his angry tirade over. Bella tries to keep her eyes open for a little longer but her morning has been more than she bargained for on her first day in Nevada City.

Propping her head on Carlisle's shoulder, her brown eyes close against her will and she's transported into a dream of horses.
