My mind was still foggy when I came back to life. I was standing in a rather uncomfortable position, my arms locked behind me and my wrists tightly bound and nothing gave as I tried to wriggle free, grunting and struggling as I tried to bite through the gag that was wrapped around my mouth. Someone made an urgent noise next to me and I looked, eyes adjusting to the darkness to find Tenzin and the kids all tied up with me. No way! How did Amon get them too? I was sure they got away, they had to have escaped. Wait, where was Pema and the baby? Amon had better not hurt either of them, I am so going to turn him into Naga food!

Suddenly light spilled around us from above and I flinched, turning my face away as we were lifted up into the arena stadium, displayed like trophies and instantly everyone who had come to Amon's rally booed and cheered for their own reasons. I trembled slightly, instinctive fear rising as I looked towards Amon, knowing him for the monster he was but even worse, I could see Korra and Mako were also here, staring in horror at the stage. I have to break loose and get the kids and Tenzin out of here, I have to do something! But with my hands tied and no access to water or ice, I was a little stuck. Even the water pool had been emptied so that more people could witness Amon taking away the bending of the last air-benders and the granddaughter of Avatar Aang.

"Tonight I rid the world of air-bending, forever." Amon announced to his followers who all cheered in agreement. "And to prove that even those with a mighty lineage cannot escape the Equalisation process, I have also brought to you the granddaughter of Avatar Aang, the Southern Water Tribe's precious little bender, Kanna." Definitely Naga food.

"Amon, let them go!" That girl can be such an idiot sometimes, she should not be anywhere Amon, especially seeing as he's even more dangerous than we feared.

"You're welcome to come down here and try to stop me." Amon taunted and Korra growled in rage as Amon turned and began to head towards Tenzin. "The Avatar needs to be reminded of the power I possess." Without warning Mako struck with a bolt of lightning, forcing Amon to quickly roll out of the way and I grit my teeth, tugging at the chains that bound me as he turned his mask towards me slightly, my fierce and unwavering gaze meeting his before he then turned towards Korra and Mako, both of whom were running along the wall and using fire-bending to keep themselves upright.

Mako held off Amon whilst she rushed forwards and freed me first, using fire to cut through the chains. "Kanna! Are you alright? Did he hurt you?" She asked as I spit out the gag.

"Not really but I'm glad you finally got your butt down here, even if it was a stupid thing to do." I twisted and gave her a grin and the moment I felt the chains go slack I rushed forwards to join with Mako, moving my hands as I sought out water. It was kind of gross, but it was very practical. Beads of sweat started to rise off the bodies of everyone around me, the people screaming as they tried to escape and as the small droplets began to clump together in their hundreds I froze them and directed them directly at Amon who had to fight them off and deflect them as I continued to move.

"Where are Pema and the baby?"

"In prison." Tenzin answered as Korra cut him loose.

"Beifong?"

"I don't know." With his hands now free Tenzin rushed forwards and sent powerful blasts of air at Amon, allowing me to fall back and as I froze the sweat water I slashed it down with so much power and accuracy that it cut through the metal and freed Meelo, allowing me to grab him and throw him onto my back as I seized Jinora and Ikki by their hands.

"Everyone let's go!" The girls gripped onto my hands tightly as I ran forwards with them, Meelo clinging onto my neck as we escaped down the hallway with Korra sending a final blast at Amon to try and buy us some time.

"Get them out of here. We'll create a diversion." Korra instructed as I let down the children, giving them a quick smile of reassurance when I noticed their terrified expressions. Except for Meelo, he looked like he was having the time of his life as he jumped down from my neck and spiralled to the ground.

"Let's go get your mother and the baby." Tenzin herded his children to him, Meelo pumping his fists into the air excitedly.

"Prison break!" That Meelo, he sure knew how to lighten the mood. Turning to Korra she gave me a quick nod before the three of us ran forwards, Korra pausing to set the hallway on fire before we all dived into a storage space and I quickly hid myself away as the others did the same. I was breathing heavily so I calmed myself down, going completely quiet as I listened as Amon entered the room and his echoing footsteps passed me, going forwards in contemplation. If only there was more water around, I could encase him with an ice geyser and hold him until we figure out the next stage of the plan.

Before any other thoughts could come to me Korra suddenly screamed as she was dragged out bodily by Amon who held his hand towards her, contorting her body at impossible angles. "Let her go!" Mako yelled furiously as he struck with fire-bending at Amon, trying to get him to drop Korra as I waited in place, biding my time. Amon effortlessly dodged all the strikes before taking over Mako's body as well, throwing him to the ground and holding him there. Now! I rushed forwards with a yell, exploding from my hiding place and in three leaps I had reached Amon and struck him in the gut with my knee, trying to double him over however he moved back far enough in time so that the majority of my blow was ineffective, dodging my attacks which he misdirected with blood-bending before he then struck me to the ground with a kick to the head, dazing me as I crumbled.

"No! Kanna!" I heard Korra cry out as she was made to kneel before Amon, one hand at the back of her neck and the other pressing a thumb to her forehead.

"Korra…Korra!" I tried to move but the moment I stood up my head swam and I swayed, stumbling into a pile of wooden beams and I couldn't even throw a decent punch at Amon before he knocked me aside again. Both Mako and I called out to Korra, trying to get up but we were both pinned to the ground by Amon as he then turned his attention back to Korra, his presence sinister and nightmarish as he used the blood-bending technique to take away her bending before allowing her to drop to the ground.

"I told you I would destroy you." He purred cynically and I gaped, staring at Korra who lay weakly on the ground. No way. Her bending. He took away Korra's bending. What the hell are we supposed to do now?! I can't bend without water to turn to ice and Mako was in the same state as I was. We were all completely useless. "Finally, you are powerless." Amon triumphed over Korra and I grit my teeth in anger. That monster, I'm going to make him pay. Forgive me Gran-Gran, but this might be the only thing I can do right now. I'm sure you'll understand, you did the same thing for Aang and Sokka all those years ago. I'll face the consequences, I just need a little bit of strength, a small opening where Amon was distracted…

"Amon, everything the Avatar said is true, isn't it? I just saw you blood-bend her!" Something like that. "You traitor! I dedicated my life to you!" The lieutenant charged towards Amon with his electrified batons however Amon stopped him in his place, turning his attention towards this new threat so I moved my arms, twitching my fingers as I took deep and steady breaths to close my eyes and concentrate carefully on the water. The blood. I focused on it, felt it coursing through his body before I used all of the strength I had to grasp hold of it with my palms lying flat on the ground, slowly rising up. Amon flung away his loyal follower like trash however before he could turn back to Korra and Mako, he found that he couldn't move.

His eyes widened and as he struggled, his head slowly turned towards me, twitching and fighting for every movement as I slowly rose up onto my feet, hands directed towards him as I maintained absolute focus on him. "Mako, get Korra and run. I'll hold him for as long as I can." I instructed him a little breathlessly, clenching my jaw tightly as Mako finally had his movements returned to him and he dragged himself towards Korra who was still unconscious. "Hurry!"

"I owe you one Kanna." He said to me, glancing back before rushing away with Korra in his arms as Amon and I remained in a deadlock, the both of us trying to bend the other but for the moment I had the edge since I had taken him by surprise. This was extremely difficult and I had no idea how I was managing it, especially considering it was not a full moon however I reasoned that since others had been able to do this before, it made sense that it was not impossible. I was a very strong water-bender, after all, I simply chose not to use the main bulk of my element. I'm the daughter of Kya, granddaughter of Katara. Water runs thick in my veins and I will not lose this battle to someone like him!

"Impressive. Most impressive. I should have guessed that you would have the stomach for such a technique, however it is pointless. You are an amateur at best and will only be able to hold me for a few seconds more and then you will be at my mercy." Amon said to me coldly as I continued to fight to hold him in place.

"Just a few seconds? That's all the time I need." I smirked at him, sweat dripping from my brow as I tried to twist and manipulate his body, managing to turn his arm behind his back and crush him onto one knee however the physical strain and lack of experience and practice kept me from holding him down for much longer. I lasted only a few seconds more, I'm pleased to say, however when at last Amon broke free I was suddenly crashing against the wall. I cried out in pain as he twisted my body and even broke my arm, causing me to scream a little louder before finally he dropped me.

"You are all trash and will be equalised. Don't worry, little water-bender, I'll be back for you after I've finished off the Avatar and that fire-bender friend of yours." He promised as I breathed weakly, my face pressing into the cold floor as I felt his shadow flit over me before disappearing. I was in so much pain but I dragged myself up and onto my feet, ignoring the fact that my arm was broken and first checked the Lieutenant for life signs. He was breathing and there were no injuries so I left him be, going after Amon instead.

A sudden blast of air wrapped around me and I flinched, grounding my feet down to the ground whilst shielding my eyes, turning to see Korra striking Amon with successive blasts of air. No way, she can air-bend? How was that even possible?! Not one to complain I watched as Amon was thrown out of the window so I hurried forwards, grabbing Mako and helping him to his feet as he groaned. "Kanna your arm, it's…"

"Don't worry about my arm. I'm fine." I assured him, pulling his arm over my neck and helped him stagger towards Korra so that we could look out over the water. The people were accusing Korra of murdering their leader, however when Amon shot out of the ocean in a huge twister, gasping for breath and that fake scar now washed away, they soon began singing a very different tune. Like a coward he fled and Mako instantly struck out with huge bursts of fire as I rushed forwards, leaping out of the broken window and the water swept upwards in a wave of ice which I skated down before creating an ice raft, going after Amon as he tried to escape. I could see his shadow in the water so I used my broken arm to the best of my ability, using the water to create huge ice spikes and sent them after him, managing to snag him a few times until he suddenly turned around and sent a huge wave back at me.

With my hands spreading apart I separated the water wave like a curtain, flying through it as I continued to surf the waves after him, trying to catch up so that we could pin him down once and for all. "You're not getting away Amon, give up already!" I yelled at him, continuing my onslaught until finally he managed to catch me off guard. He attacked from the right side where my broken arm was near enough useless to defend, a huge blast of water slamming into me and sent me crashing into the ocean. Instantly I panicked, releasing a scream of noiseless fear whilst thrashing all useable limbs, trying to get myself up to the surface but the water reacted to my fear, wrapping itself around me and pulling me down.

Once again I felt weak and powerless, unable to move as the numbing cold caused my body to go still. When I stopped thrashing the water also quietened, releasing its tight grip on me and simply seemed to drape its watery arms around me, lulling me to sleep as it pulled me further down to its depths. For a while I was senseless, unable to think or feel until I suddenly found air. Someone was dragging me to shore, coughing and gasping for breath before letting me down, grasping my head and looking for signs of breathing. There was water in my lungs and I was trying to cough it out but I had no air to help me, convulsing slightly as I remained mostly unresponsive.

That is until I felt someone suddenly kissing me. I squeaked, air flooding my lungs and it gave me the boost I needed to expel the water, lurching forwards so quickly that the person accidentally bit my lip and I tasted blood as well as the salt water, throwing it from my lungs whilst gripping my broken arm tenderly. "You're alright now, you're safe. It was a brave thing trying to go after Amon alone but you should have not gone without support and backup." Despite being kind and warm, I couldn't help but notice that my rescuer was also lecturing me.

"I'll remember for next time." I rasped, trembling slightly from the cold as I shook out the water from my hair and eyelashes so that I could look more clearly at the person next to me.

"You're cold, here. This will help warm you." He said kindly and his hands became alight with fire and immediately I was drawn to the warmth. My rescuer was in a sorry state of dress, one sleeve completely ripped off and exposed a bandage which covered a wound which I could see was bleeding again and he looked like he'd gone through hell. I can't imagine I looked much better. "My name is Iroh, General Iroh of the United Forces." He introduced himself as I held my hand out to the water without thinking and began to heal his injury.

"I'm Kanna. Thanks for saving me, I didn't really think the entire pursuit thing through." I mused to him quietly as the hot flames began to dry my skin and my clothes and I healed his wound so that it stopped bleeding and closed up.

"You're a water-bender…who can't swim?" Iroh seemed rather confused however I just smiled at him.

"It's a long story. Anyway, I can make us a raft and get us back to Republic City, I'm guessing that's where you need to be. How did you even end up on my grandfather's memorial island anyway?" I asked him, looking around in confusion however Iroh simply gave me a warm and rather handsome smile.

"It's a long story." The both of us laughed a little at that as I got to my feet, Iroh generously supporting me in case I fell before I created us a sizeable boat of ice for us to climb into before I rocked the waves forwards and carried us into the ocean before we sped forwards, using only one hand as I kept the other pinned against my chest. We got back to Republic City and ran for the arena which was crawling with police however the moment I saw Korra I leaped up from the boat, only just remembering to pull Iroh up with me with a plume of water before I was running.

Korra spotted me and she broke free from Mako, her eyes tearing into mine as she struggled to hold back her tears. I didn't care my arm was broken, I flung myself against her and held her close, letting her hide away against me as he entire body was racked with near invisible sobs. "We're going to fix this Korra. We'll find a way." I promised her softly as I stroked her hair. "You and me together, we can get through anything so just be patient for a little while, okay?" Nodding her head weakly, Korra sagged against me, fully exhausted so I dropped to the ground, unable to support her wait and let her bury her face into my shoulder as the press yelled for explanations and answers, the police barely holding things together but in our small bubble, nothing else mattered. Korra was safe and alive, I was grateful for that. Everything else could be dealt with in time.
