"Come on Korra, Korra! You can't give up now, hang in there!" Patting a hand against her cheek I doused her with a little water and made her drink a little, bringing her back around as her eyes blinked wearily. "See there's this really creepy guy over there and I think he wants to kill us so if you could maybe do something about that, that would be really cool." Grabbing her under her arms I dragged Korra to her feet, making sure she was steady and stable before letting go.

"Thanks Kanna, I owe you one." She said, face falling into severity whilst punching a fist into her palm as Vaatu fused Unalaq called out to Korra in taunt.

"Now a new era for spirits and humans will begin, and I will lead them all as the new Avatar."

"Well, I'm the old Avatar and my era's not over yet." Great comeback Korra! Now kick his butt! I took a few large steps back, diving out of the way as Korra rallied back and fought off Vaatu and Unalaq, her eyes glowing brilliantly and used all her strength to fight him, pushing him back until they both passed through the spirit portal back to the South Pole. Okay, I should probably go and rescue Bolin and Mako from Desna and Eska, who knows what those two will get up to if they get too bored. Plus I'm pretty sure Bolin left Eska at the altar, or at least that's what I heard so she's probably pissed at him about that.

Deciding to save my strength with my bending, I ran after Korra towards where I could see Bolin and Mako in the distance trapped completely in ice save for their heads. What am I going to do with those two? I was all psyched up and ready to fight the twins off, however just as I leaped into range and brought up an entire hoard of ice shards, Eska started to make out with Bolin. What the-?! Did I miss something here!? Geez, nothing makes sense anymore. As she pulled back, my expression of bewildered shock mirrored both Mako and Desna's faces. "You'll never defeat my father but should you survive, perhaps we can spend eternal darkness together." Eska said as the ice melted around both Bolin and Mako, freeing them. Well, I guess I can't argue with that.

Taking this opportunity to make a run for it I dashed forwards, touching Mako's shoulder as he grabbed Bolin by the back of his jacket and dragged him with us. "Wow, that was the best acting I've ever seen. You completely fooled her!" Mako crowed once we were out of earshot however when I glanced across to Bolin, I saw his look of discontent and upset.

"Yeah, right, that – that was acting." Smiling in understanding I ruffled his hair briefly and gave him a quick smile before all three of us rushed through the portal and emerged on the other side. "So where's Korra?" Just then, a large quaking sensation ripped through the ground and a burst of flames erupted through the trees a fair distance away, making the sky turn an intense shade of amber for a brief moment before the flames dispersed.

"Follow the evidence of catastrophic destruction." I responded blankly before grabbing them both by the hands. "Hold on and don't lose your balance!" Giving them no other form of warning I stomped the ground and caused the snow to turn into an ice raft whereby we shot forwards, Bolin yelling rather loudly and horridly in my ear before he lunged forwards and wrapped himself around my waist as he fell to his knees.

"Kanna don't drop me! Please don't drop me! AGH!"

"Pull it together bro!" Mako yelled however he was struggling to maintain his balance as well so with a brief chuckle I grabbed his arm and pulled him closer to me so that he could hold on too, my eyes focused on Korra as I manoeuvred us expertly through the trees and out into the open, gaining speed as we went downhill and streaked across the open plain towards where Korra fought Unalaq. I tried to go as fast as I could, desperate to reach Korra however the added weight slowed us down a little, meaning that all we could do was watch helplessly as Raava was literally ripped out of Korra, the glowing white spirit appearing in the open for the first time in what must have been ten thousand years.

"Korra!"

"He's got the light spirit!" Bolin panicked as I leaned downwards even further, slicing my arms for an added burst of speed though it did us little good. Bolin and Mako both sent their own attacks towards Unalaq, trying to force him to let go of Raava. They were successful, however Unalaq used the ice to create a shield around him with every attack and protected himself. As we got in closer I whirled my arms, gradually increasing the pace to fire blasts of ice and snow at Unalaq however with a simple flick of his wrist an entire wave came crashing towards us and I had to quickly veer away to try and avoid it, propelling all three of us into the air with a snow raft and we crashed into a drift, groaning at the sudden impact.

"Raava!" Remembering quickly I whirled around, trying to get back on my feet however Unalaq had already released his second wave and this time, there was nothing I could do to stop it. It crashed into all three of us. Snow, ice, water and rock debris, slamming against us full force and chasing us away out of reach and for a few moments, I blacked out from the blow. I was only out for a few seconds, however when I lifted my head, I watched uselessly as Unalaq cracked a water whip at the body of Raava again and again, causing my jaw to drop in disbelief as the last one sliced her completely in half and she dissolved into tiny particles of dust, just like that.

I could scarcely believe it and I felt a sudden shift in the balance of the world, everything growing much colder and more sinister than ever before. It was hard to describe, but I suppose it was like being in a room full of light but then suddenly having the light switched off and the walls stripped away, leaving you completely exposed and in darkness. It was a terrifying feeling and I could almost feel the world trembling as the balance feel completely out of proportion. Over in the snow I could see Korra lying motionless so I hastened to reach her, dragging myself until I felt the numbness ebb away from my legs so that I could move with more confidence. "Korra! Oh no, Korra please wake up. Korra!" Gathering her up into my arms I pulled my coat around us both, trying to keep her warm as she lay completely lax and limp like a boneless fish.

Mako and Bolin reached us just as Unalaq started to laugh, the boys lifting Korra's arms over their shoulders as our enemy started to grow in size, turning completely dark and demonic until he towered among the heavens. "Now…ten thousand years of darkness begins!" My eyes watched in stony silence as Unalaq reached upwards into the sky and touched the aurora, rising up in a flash and was gone just as quickly, leaving behind another shockwave which blasted us all apart.

Seriously, if I get hit by another one of those aftershocks, I am going to lose my head completely. This time I didn't lose consciousness, however the others did and Korra was not looking so good. I needed some spirit water so I could heal them, but I can't carry them all on my own and I can barely summon the energy to bend, let alone stand up. "It's okay guys, I'm going to…figure something out." I struggled, wriggling closer to Korra before lifting my fingers to my lips and giving a sharp whistle. If Naga was around, she'd hear me and come running. If not, I'll just have to hope these guys can hold on a little while for me to gather back my energy.

"They're over here!" Tenzin? "Kanna! Korra! Are you both alright?"

"Kanna!" Suddenly my mom had flung herself down at me and picked me up into her arms, holding me closely against her with an arm wrapped around my head. "I was so worried about you, are you hurt?"

"No, but Korra and the boys need spirit water healing right away. I can't move them by myself so it's great you found us." I said, relaxing a little in my mom's arms before giving in and hugging her tightly, tears falling down my face. "Mom, I was so scared! Vaatu is going to bring ten thousand years of darkness and we weren't able to stop him. I'm so sorry mom, I'm sorry…"

"It's okay honey, it's okay. None of this is your fault. Come on now, take a deep breath and let it all out. That's it, good girl." Mom coaxed me into being calmer, rubbing my back and smoothing away the tears on my face before helping me to my feet. Tenzin and Bumi grabbed Mako and Bolin whilst I carried Korra over my shoulders, leading everyone back into the spirit world where we placed the three of them in the water where mom and I started to heal them, our movements flowing as one as the light passed over my friends until one by one, they woke up with a start.

Korra sucked in a deep gasp of air, sitting bolt upright with Mako following and then Bolin. "Thank goodness you're all okay." Tenzin exhaled with relief as I dashed into the water and quickly checked everyone's vitals, gripping onto each of them and was not satisfied until I was certain everyone was fully conscious and breathing.

"Did you find Jinora?" Korra climbed to her feet and turned towards Tenzin, her grip on my arm slowly trailing away as she moved forwards and left me with Mako and Bolin who were still coming around to their senses.

"I was able to rescue her soul, but she wasn't ready to return to her body yet. She sensed the world was in grave danger." Tenzin responded and I looked around sadly as I heard Korra's defeated tone, her head hanging low.

"She was right." Tenzin paused for a moment, watching as Korra went and sat down on a nearby rock, looking as if the entire world had shattered around her. Mako was already recovered and up on his feet, helping me to pull up Bolin who was groaning blearily, both his arms slung around our necks to keep him balanced as we pulled him out of the water.

"Were you able to stop Unalaq and Vaatu?"

"No, they fused and then Vaatu ripped Raava right out of me and destroyed her. Vaatu won." Suddenly coming awake, Bolin grabbed onto his head and jumped violently out of my grasp, causing me to stumble and almost lose my balance but Mako was quick to place his hands on my shoulders, steadying me so I uttered a quiet word of thanks to him as Bolin freaked out.

"No! I'm too young to live through ten thousand years of darkness! Korra, can't you talk to one of your past lives or something?"

"When Vaatu destroyed Raava, he destroyed my connection to the past Avatars too. The cycle is over. I'm the last Avatar." For the first time in a very long while, I saw Korra begin to cry, frustrated and abhorred by her own failure. "I'm so sorry, Tenzin." Mako gripped onto my shoulder a little tighter in concern, frowning with worry at Korra as I looked around at everyone until my mom softly spoke to her little brother, urging him forwards.

"She needs you now, more than ever." The rest of us stepped back to give Korra and Tenzin some space to talk, watching quietly as we stood together.

"So what do we do now? Is there any way to defeat Vaatu?" Mako asked, only now dropping his hand from my shoulder.

"Not that I can think of. He's a dark spirit who has completely taken over the body of a human, that doesn't make him an ordinary Avatar. It might take some time, but we could probably come up with something. There have to be other spirits out there who will know what to do, right? Not all of them can be controlled by Vaatu, there just has to be something we can do." I reasoned rationally whilst Bumi suggested we gathered the entire firepower of all the armies, navies and benders of the world and smack Vaatu with one giant attack. I have to say, it sounded rather tempting. Looking around I noticed that Korra and Tenzin had head over to the giant tree which had previously served as Vaatu's prison.

"What do you think they're talking about?" Bolin asked. "Do you think there's a super weapon or something in the tree? What if the tree is a super dark spirit slaying weapon?!" We all looked at him blankly, his eyes darting to us all before he shrunk back. "I'll just stand here quietly." He decided, taking a few steps back. We watched as Tenzin appeared alone from the tree, however a few moments later a strange and eerie light began to glow from within. "Uh…what's happening?"

"Uncle Tenzin?" I called out to him questioningly, however when a giant blue Korra stepped out from the tree, growing bigger and bigger by the second, all of us stared open mouthed at the colossal form of my best friend, her eyes intensely blue and her entire body glowing like an ethereal spiritual form. "Wow…" I breathed. By this point, I don't think anything could shock me after a day like this. I've seen spirits, dark spirits, humans fusing with spirits and humans transforming into giant blue spirits who are now looking directly at me. Korra reached down with a huge hand and wrapped her fingers around me, making me squeak as she lifted me up without a work. "Hey! Korra! What's going on? What are you doing?!"

Silently Korra walked towards the converging portals, stretched up her hand and just like that I felt a familiar rushing sensation, however it stretched out for longer and it made me feel rather sick and strange, as if I were being pulled in all directions whilst being surrounded by giant blue hands which held me protectively. I yelled loudly, tucking up tight and when I felt us collide with something, I was smacked against Korra's palm. I could hear the sound of water rushing and settling around us and when Korra opened up her hand I looked up to find myself in the bay of Republic City. "Wha-what are we…how did we get here? Whoa! Korra look out!" I screeched in warning as Vaatu suddenly rose up from the water and Korra hurriedly stepped back and lowered me to the water which I jumped onto, forming ice around me. "You want to clue me on the plan or something?!"

"I have to retrieve Raava. If I fail, you need to purify Vaatu's spirit just like with the other dark spirits." Korra told me shortly and I blinked before having to quickly grab onto my ice raft for balance as she started to run forwards, causing huge waves which threatened to topple me over.

"Oh sure! Just leave me out here in the middle of the freaking ocean which I happens to be the thing I'm scared of the most whilst you have a massive spirit battle with the most evil being on EARTH!" I yelled after her before spiralling around on my foot, guiding the water underneath me and head towards the navy ships which were sinking and burning with people trapped in the water, floundering helplessly. In a few moments I had travelled the entire length of the bay, desperately trying to avoid the crossfire of Korra and Vaatu until finally, I was there. "Everybody just hold on!" Calling at the top of my lungs I started to work, building an ice longboat which I started to propel drowning sailors into, plumes of water shooting them in until they started to get the idea and swam towards the floating vessel.

Turning around I flexed my hands, taking a deep breath and closing my eyes to focus on the water, lifting it up and turning it to ice underneath the sinking ships so that one by one, they were lifted up and out of the water, balanced perfectly above the waves on huge glaciers of ice and their hulls started to drain themselves of the water they had taken in. Well, it would do for now. At least the ships won't settle on the seabed and take all its crew with them. Just as I was about to help another sailor out of the water, I heard Korra cry out in pain behind me and I whirled around, seeing her being blasted with a huge burst of purple light which tore through the night sky and came straight towards us. "Get out of there!" Someone yelled to me however I reacted instinctively and tried to block it, sucking in a deep gulp of air and shot my hands upwards.

A colossal glacier rose up, the water turning to ice instantaneously and forming a huge wall which the purple light crashed into and shattered it upon impact but effectively blocked the way, stopping it in its track as Vaatu crowed victoriously at Korra. "With you out of the way, I will be the one true Avatar."

"No, Korra!" I tried to move towards her, to help her, however all around me there was crashing ice and as it struck the water, it created fierce waves which rocked my tiny raft until it too broke apart and I had to jump forwards, leaping from ice block to ice block and desperately tried to reach one of the boats, making a daring jump across a huge gap before I managed to crash against the ice mound I had previously made, exhaling with relief. If I fell into the water at all today, I am blaming Korra and will make her take responsibility for anything that might happen. Wait, Korra! I spun around swiftly, making to lunge forwards to rescue her however as Vaatu held her partially corrupted, a soft light began to descend from the sky.

It was warm and stoked something in my heart, as if I recognised that presence instinctively. My focus was broken when a rope ladder was thrown over the side and reached down towards me, someone leaning over the side. "I think you had better climb aboard, Miss Kanna."

"Iroh?" Frowning slightly as I couldn't quite tell from all the way down at the bottom of the boat, I grabbed onto the ladder and started to climb upwards, scaling the side of the boat until finally I was able to swing my leg over and place my feet over onto firm, solid ground. "General Iroh, it's good to see you again."

"I'm glad to see you too. Thank you for helping my men." He greeted me kindly, giving me a warm smile before offering me his telescope. "There appears to be a child within that light orb in the distance. I believe it is one of Master Tenzin's children, however I cannot be certain." Quickly I took the telescope and looked through it, focusing on what was happening and sure enough I could see Jinora facing Vaatu with Korra, sending him backwards and I could hear him wailing.

"Oh my…Jinora!" I bit my lip with worry, lowering the telescope as I watched Korra slam her fist against Vaatu, recovering from her previous bought and going for the glowing light in his chest. "I think we may have actually won this. If Korra can retrieve Raava and bond with her again, the Harmonic Convergence will end and restore balance as it once was." I mused to myself but when I sensed General Iroh looking at me in blank confusion, I gave a guilty laugh. "It's a long story." He relaxed at that, lips curling upwards slightly.

"You'll have to tell it to me sometime." He invited so I dipped my head towards him before the both of us turned and watched as Korra pulled the light spirit of Raava free from Vaatu and converted him into spiritual energy, his body disappearing into a golden shower. I felt relieved. Relieved to know that it was finally over and that things weren't going to end, that we still had a world that was our own and we would see the sunrise in the morning instead of complete darkness. "You look exhausted, perhaps you should rest."

"I can't rest, I need to get to Air Temple Island and make sure Pema and the kids are alright. Plus you will probably need help digging yourselves out of all the ice. Sorry about that, I just figured it was better than sinking." I apologised bashfully, looking over the side of the ship to where metal benders and fire benders were working to patch up any holes in the ships to make them sea worthy once more.

"Do not apologise, you have saved many of my crew. Please, at least allow me to offer you some medical attention. You are injured." Iroh gestured towards my arm and a rather serious slash on my side which I had failed to notice until now. Some of Unalaq's attacks must have struck without me realising. I must look absolutely terrible and my hair is a total mess. Can this day just be over, please? I am so done with it.

"I'll be fine. I can see to myself. If there's nothing else I can do, then I better get going." I said, stepping back towards the side of the ship as an indication that I wanted to leave. Iroh arched an eyebrow at me curiously, tilting his head to the side as he regarded me.

"You are a very strange girl. Very well then, take care of yourself, Kanna. My grandfather will be very displeased if he learns that I allowed the granddaughter of Avatar Aang to find further trouble after letting her out of my sight." He warned me. The way he put it like that, it made me think. Our grandfathers were best friends, once upon a time. Isn't it strange how friendships seem to be passed down through the generations? I mean, it's almost as if the feelings are just passed on to be carried by us younger generations. Hm. That's quite a nice thought, actually.

"Thank you for giving me somewhere solid to stand, I still hate the water." I said to him before jumping up onto the side, turning back and giving him a salute. "I'll see you around, general!" And with that I leaped down towards the water, twisting my body into a corkscrew so that the ice shifted and formed a slide and ramp for me to glide down as Iroh rushed to the edge and watched me disappear into the night as I sped away on an ice raft for my home, knowing that there was nothing else I could do except wait for everyone else to come home too.
