A couple of weeks after Harmonic Convergence, Korra was doing everything she could to try and clear the vines left behind by Unulaq, but still with no joy. It was driving her crazy, as no amount of hacking, sawing or bending could get them to shift. It was a stressful time and we all sympathised and did our best to support her however we could. I spent a lot of time away from the island because that's where my mother was and I still wasn't really wanting to talk to her much, so I actually volunteered with helping move people out of their vine infested homes and finding them shelter, as well as providing food and necessities so that they were all taken care of.

Today, however, I was home. It was easier being on the island with Bolin around since he'd come to live with us as his apartment was covered in vines at the moment. Mako had been invited too, but since he'd broken up with both Korra and Asami pretty much simultaneously, things were a little awkward when all three of them were together, so he was bunking at the office. Carrying the baby in a sling across my front, I had one arm around him as I headed to dinner after Tenzin had called for us all.

"What's up Uncle Bumi? Why're you waving your arms like that?" I asked him with a quirked eyebrow as Bumi kept on waving his arms and making whooshing noises.

"Bumi thinks he's an air bender. Clearly he's been out in the sun too long and it's made him loopy." Tenzin informed me as he walked past, ushering the kids in but stopped to smile at Rohan who was sleeping soundly against me.

"I'm telling you it's true! I was air bending!" Bumi insisted, gripping his head and groaning with frustration.

"Air bending? What happened Bumi?" Telling me the entire story I blinked before beaming. "That's great!"

"Wait, you believe me?" Bumi retracted in surprise as I shrugged.

"Sure I do, you're not a liar. Can you show me? Oh! Make that tofu plate fly up and try and drop it on Uncle Tenzin's head, maybe that'll make him laugh." I prompted eagerly, wanting to see Bumi air bend though I couldn't quite believe it. I knew Bumi never lied, except when he was telling stories which he tended to exaggerate, but something like this he wouldn't lie about. Bumi kept on trying at the table, frowning in concentration as I patted Rohan's back lightly as he continued to sleep over my shoulder.

"Stop waving your arms around at the table. It's not funny anymore." Tenzin quipped, getting annoyed with my uncle as Bumi kept trying.

"It's not a joke!" Just then Asami and Korra walked in and noticed Bumi acting stranger than usual as I shifted up so that they had room to sit down between me and Bolin with us all.

"What's up with him?"

"Bumi says he air bended earlier, but he can't now." Bolin informed Korra who looked at him quickly, doing a double take as Bolin continued. "Oh, and I guess he's not very good at knitting either. I gotta say, I love being a part of this family. You got the grumpy dad, the wacky uncle. The put-upon mom, crazy kids. This is great!" He pointed to everyone in turn, pegging them all quite accurately.

"Where's Mako?"

"Oh, you mean the brooding teenager? He's staying at the police station."

"Still?" Korra looked at me with disbelief so I just rolled a shoulder noncommittally, not caring either way where Mako stayed. If he wanted to sleep under his desk then he should knock himself out.

"I told him Tenzin invited us to stay here since our apartment is a vine habitat now, but he said he had to focus on work." Imitating his brother by pushing his hand through his hair to imitate his hairstyle, making a few of us giggle at the impression.

"Oh! Did you see that? I think the napkin moved!" Bumi suddenly yelled with excitement but my mom just looked at him blankly.

"You blew on it." I scowled at her.

"Let him keep trying if he wants to. Don't be such a put-down." Giving her a snappy quip I then pointedly turned my head away from her, eating with one hand as the other still held the baby because if I put him down, he'd start crying. At least this way he was quiet and sleeping. Mom flinched slightly and looked at me sadly but I ignored her, making Asami glance across to me with worry.

"Wait! Maybe I can only do it when my life is in danger." Bumi theorised before turning to Bolin and putting up his hands into a bending position. "Bolin, bend a giant boulder at me."

"Yeah, I don't think that's a good idea." Tenzin looked just about done with this entire conversation as Pema instructed that if anyone was going to be bending boulders, they had to do it outside. I wouldn't mess with her, she's scarier than Tenzin when she's mad.

"No one is bending giant boulders!" Slamming his hands down on the table to shout, Meelo then suddenly stood up and mimicked his dad, crashing his hands against the table top as he yelled at Bumi before throwing a plate at his face.

"Look alive, Uncle Bumi!" Several of us gaped and yelped as the plate flew across the table, Bumi's eyes widening before he thrust out his hands protectively and much to everyone's shock, a sphere of air wrapped around the plate and made it hover in the air between his hands. My jaw hit the floor same as Bolin's, Bumi himself looking confounded before he suddenly laughed.

"Ah! I told you!" Rohan woke up then, gurgling and drooling all over my shoulder but I didn't even notice, just staring at Bumi who continued to air bend in front of us all.

"Unbelievable. You're actually an air bender." Tenzin stared in awe, probably the most stupefied of everyone here.

"Wait until I tell mom. She's gonna love this." Losing his air bubble, the plate dropped and shattered with a crash, but still everybody was just staring at Bumi, not knowing how to react or what to say. The rest of the meal was almost totally forgotten, and after I'd handed Rohan back over to Pema, I followed Bumi as he rushed outside with a punch and a kick, trying to air bend again as others followed him as well. "Ugh! I can't figure this thing out!" He complained in frustration as I stood with Korra and Tenzin.

"Do you think being in the Spirit World during Harmonic Convergence could have given him bending?" Korra asked as Tenzin frowned deeply.

"I suppose it's possible."

"But that doesn't make any sense." I reasoned, the three of us facing each other in order to debate. "There's never been a case of a non-bender suddenly getting bending before, and why air bending? Bumi could just have easily been a water bender because of Gran-Gran, maybe this was meant to happen, like…I don't know. The world is trying to readdress the balance since the spiritual and material world are connected again through the portals."

"Maybe Uncle Bumi is just a late bloomer." We all smiled at Ikki for her cute suggestion before we saw my mom addressing Bumi and seemingly searching the air in front of him as she focused.

"I have been noticing a change in your aura lately."

"And you didn't tell me?" Rolling his eyes, Bumi continued trying to air bend so I gently nudged Ikki and suggested that maybe she should try showing him a few moves. It would keep the kids occupied, so this was something to look forward to just as Chief Beifong and Mako himself walked towards us.

"Invisible spirit monster attack?" Lin questioned with a nod towards Bumi who admitted looked a little crazy if you didn't know what was happening.

"Lin! You won't believe this. Bumi just started air bending." Both Lin and Mako looked at one another with surprise, but not as much as I would have expected considering just how awesomely out of this world this is.

"I'm afraid he's not the only one." Wait, what?!

"I got a call last night about a guy who just started air bending out of nowhere." Mako informed us all as I surged forwards in order to grasp hold of Korra and lean over her, staring at Lin and Mako as we both dropped our jaws.

"You mean there's another one? Where is he now?" Tenzin questioned eagerly, overwhelmed to hear that there were more air benders starting to pop up out like daisies.

"He...blew a door down on me and got away. We've got an all-points bulletin out on him right now." Mako informed us before he and his boss started to walk away. After a moment, Korra chased after him, calling out loudly.

"Wait, we'll help you look for him. Where should we start?" Now this was fun, I couldn't help but watch Mako squirm awkwardly as he faced Korra.

"Oh, well, you know, you should...you should leave it to the police. It's...police business, you know. It's, um...official." I don't think I'll ever get bored of this. Tenzin and Asami just looked at him like he had a screw loose, Korra frowning slightly before recovering.

"Okay. How are you doing? You know you're welcome to stay here instead of sleeping at the police station."

"No, I'm fine. I should just...get... going." Still as hesitant and uneasy as before, Mako suddenly stood to attention as he faced Korra, Asami and I together as we all stood in various relaxed poses, either hands on hips or arms folded as we just arched an eyebrow or two at him. "So! As you…were. Ladies." The guy even saluted before marching off stiffly, and I just about managed to hold in my laughter until he was out of earshot before I let it out.

"Oh man, I am so going to never let him forget this day."

"Strange as that was, we should probably head over to the city all the same. If that guy just suddenly started air bending, he's probably really confused and doesn't have a clue what's happening." Korra started slowly before she turned around to face us. "Any takers?"

"I'll go." Asami agreed before smiling prettily. "We can take my satomobile."

"I'll head on over with you but then I've got to go to work. I'm scheduled for some volunteering hours this afternoon." All agreed, we let Tenzin know where we were going before crossing the water and reaching the docks on the other side where I waved to Korra and Asami in order to head to the city and started work volunteering at the shelter. It helped when I entertained kids with ice figures which moved, helping them enjoy their time instead of worrying about being homeless for the time being.

It was fulfilling work and I enjoyed it a great deal, getting to know people and reassuring them that although things might not be the same as before, it would eventually get better. I got back late that evening on my ice raft only to discover that Korra had been banished from the city by President Raiko. "What?! What the hell happened whilst I was gone? I was gone for only four hours, what could have possibly have happened in that time to make him kick you out?!"

"Well, first off I tried to purify the spirit vines and send them back to the spirit world using the technique with water bending Unulaq technique, but that backfired and the vines destroyed another building. Then with the new air bender who suddenly showed up, he got himself cornered on the top of a bridge and almost fell to his death but I caught him, and everything was going great but then that uptight president just upped and told me to get lost." Korra summed up as I stared at her blankly before groaning.

"I never liked that guy. So…what now? What are you going to do if you can't go back to Republic City?"

"Obviously I'm going to go looking for more air benders. With the balance shifted, it's my duty as Avatar to make sure that I help rebuild the Air Nation." Korra grinned at me as we walked back towards the temple together. "Tenzin and I plan to go to Ba Sing Se since it's the biggest city and we're more likely to find air benders there, but on the way we're going to stop off in towns where there are reports of air benders showing up. Will you come too? Bolin is already on board, I'd really appreciate the help if you came too."

"Are you kidding me? Of course I'm going!" I said as I threw my hands up into the air. "My grandfather was the last air bender before he had Uncle Tenzin, and we always knew how much he wanted to rebuild the Air Nation someday. Now that you're the Avatar, of course I'm going to help you. It'll be like, helping to fulfil my grandfather's dream in his place." Grinning as I slung my arm around Korra's neck, I dragged her in close as she laughed. "Basically Korra, you're not keeping me off this road trip. Ba Sing Se here we come!"
