Luz sat and listened to Belos, hanging on every word. She closed her eyes at the end.
"So, it seems like both our families have caused problems for this land." Luz said.
"Which means it's time for us to step up and end this." Belos said, "And you can help."
"How? If you didn't notice, I wasn't able to fight off a group of normal benders." Luz said, "I'm not a good Avatar."
"That was different, you were alone last time." Belos reached up and took off his mask.
"Still, I'm still bad at Airbending. So, I'm not the master of the four elements." Luz said.
"I... might've left somethings out of my explanation." Belos said, turning around.
Luz looked up and saw a blue arrow tattoo on his head.
"You're-"
"I can teach you Airbending, but I have a request." Belos said, "My Nephew, is a Firebender. As you can see, there aren't exactly any teachers here. But then I learned that you have blue fire. Something only powerful benders are capable of."
"You want me to teach him firebending and in return, you'll teach me airbending." Luz said, "Am I getting this right?"
"Correct." Belos said, "Do we have a deal?"
"From what you said, we only have two to three weeks before he tries to activate... whatever it is he's doing." Luz said, "I don't have a choice, I need to stop them... we have a deal."
"I'm glad, I'll go get your new Pupil." He said, leaving the room.
Luz sat on the ground, feeling upset that Eda isn't here to help.
"If only I was faster." Luz said, "I could have saved you. I'm sorry, Eda."
In another part of the Isles, Lilith was arriving at the Owl House after speaking with her parents. They were absolutely heartbroken by the news, and Lilith couldn't blame them. She was also feeling the pain of losing Eda, but she didn't have time to grieve, not until she got a one on one meeting with Caine so she can beat the royal shit out of him. She needs her anger and grief as motivation, only then can she properly grieve.
"Hello!" Hooty said.
"Hello... Bird thing." Lilith said, "Is Luz here?"
"No, she went to see the Emperor." He said, "I can let you in to wait for her."
Lilith, seeing as it was getting late, decided to go inside rather than fly her staff back home.
"That would be lovely. Thank you."
Hooty opened the door and Lilith looked around. Eda had always had a large amount of items, both witch and human alike, which littered her living room. Lilith grabbed one of them, a vase that Eda got from one of Owlbert's Human world trips. Eda always said that she puts important stuff in it, just in case something happened. Lilith looked in and saw two letters in it, one addressed to Luz, and one addressed to Lilith. Lilith took them and went over to the couch, where she opened the one that was addressed to her.
Dear Lily,
If you're reading this, then that means one of two things. Either I got compromised in the spy business I was doing, or my smoking caught up with me. Regardless, at the time of writing this, I'm about to start my first day as your little spy, which means I'm about to kick the shit out of you, yay! If something goes wrong, I need you to promise me something, you need to watch over Luz. I don't believe in "Chosen One" stuff, but I can say without a doubt, that girl is meant for something, and it will change the Isles. Take care of her, I'll wait for you in the Realm of the Dead.
Sincerely, Eda Clawthorne.
P.S it was me that replaced your shampoo with neon pink hair dye when we were kids.
Lilith wiped a tear out of her eye as she finished reading. She was willing to ignore the last comment, mostly because it was either Eda or her parents, and her parents were out of town.
"Oh, Edalyn, I never should've had you do this, you might still be alive." Lilith said, looking at the other letter.
She didn't know how long Luz would be gone, but Lilith would be here, waiting to give Luz the last words of her motherly figure. Lilith looked at the window, seeing the moon start rising. She still had to say one last thing, her final promise to her sister.
"Edalyn, I promise that I will look after Luz. She is basically my niece, which means I will do whatever it takes to keep her safe." Lilith said, "We'll meet again, and I look forward to it. I miss you sister, and I'm sorry about everything I've done."
Lilith thought, maybe if she didn't curse Eda and just accepted a loss at the hands of her sister during the duel, this wouldn't happen.
