Chapter 3:Explanation time
Harry was sitting in his bedroom, waiting for his mother to tell him when everyone arrived. He went repeated continuously what he was going to say to explain the predicament.
"Is Byron okay with looking after, everyone?" Harry asked his mother when she came to tell him about the plan. Harry couldn't imagine a 6th year wanting to babysit a bunch of kids.
She looked at him strangely, "Are you kidding? I normally have to end the party early; you all enjoy it so much."
Harry didn't seem convinced but didn't argue further; nothing would surprise him anymore.
"Come on, I came to get you. Everyone has arrived."
Harry suddenly felt nervous but followed his mother through the large house obediently. Once they reached the family room, everyone stopped talking. 'Not a good sign.' Harry thought.
"Okay, great, we are all here," his father, who was sat on the floor in front of where Lily would be sitting, started theatrically.
"I still don't understand why the boys are here," Tanya said worriedly.
Severus looked at her, cooly, "They are a huge part of the story, that is why."
Everyone looked at him like he had lost his mind, and they fell into an uncomfortable silence. "Who are you, and what have you done with my husband?" Tanya responded, finally looking significantly hurt.
"That is what we are here to explain." Remus cut in. "How secure is this room?"
"Very, but it would be worth throwing a few more wards up," Harry's father responded. After around five minutes, the adults sat back down, satisfied.
"I don't know where to start," Remus said truthfully.
"Start with why you 4," James gestured to Remus, Severus, Draco, and Harry, "Are acting so weird."
"Well, last night, we went to sleep in a very different world to the one we are currently in."
The room was shocked, but Laya recovered the quickest, "What are you talking about? You were all here last night."
"You know how there are many different realities, different worlds, than the one we are in now?" Remus tried again; they all nodded, "Well, we are from a different reality, a different world."
"What is it like in your world?" Harry's mother asked curiously.
The four shared a look. It was silently decided that Harry would start. "Well, I grew up with no siblings, and both of you were killed when I was just over 1-year-olds. I lived with Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia."
His parents gasped, "You were with them? They hate magic!" His mother exclaimed.
"Exactly," Harry replied. "I also faced Voldermort twice while being at Hogwarts."
"But wait, why wasn't you with Uncle Sirius or Uncle Remus? Surely you'd be with them." his father asked suddenly.
Harry looked uncomfortable, "Well, erm, Sirius was in Azkaban for 12 years."
Sirius exploded, "What! Why?"
"Because Pettigrew framed you. You went to confront him after he betrayed Lily and James, and he made it look like you killed 12 muggles, and him," Severus informed him cooly.
"But how? He could only do that if he was the secret keeper, and we moved it to Laya last minute?" Sirius pointed out.
"In our world, this never happened. You changed it from you to Peter. Once he framed you, you were sent to Azkaban without a trial." Remus added.
"Isn't that illegal, though?" Kathleen asked.
"Yep, although that didn't stop them," Remus responded bitterly.
"What about you, Severus? What did you do in your world?" Lily asked, trying to get rid of the tension between Severus and his wife.
"I was the potion master, and," He looked at Harry and Draco for a moment before making his mind up, "I was an undercover spy for Dumbledore."
"But why would you risk your kids and my life?" Tanya asked in shock.
Severus didn't answer but looked at Lily briefly. This was all Tanya needed.
"We were married, right?"
Severus shook his head, "No, we weren't. We were never together and had no children."
"Sev, you could have said that less harsh." Lily hissed at him.
Severus looked at her longingly for a moment before putting the mask up. Lily thankfully didn't catch the movement, but Tanya did.
"Was any of us in relationships?" Sirius asked as a distraction.
This time Harry answered, "Apart from my parents, no. None of the other adults in this room were together, publically at least."
"Well, that explains why you were so surprised to see me in your bed this morning. "Laya joked to Remus. She was definitely taking it better than Tanya did.
Remus smiled sheepishly, "Yeah, it was a bit of a surprise."
"What about you, Draco? What's differen't for you?" Harry's dad asked the quietest member of the room. Harry was on edge, wondering how Draco would explain their rivalry.
"I was in Slytherin, I stayed with my parents, my biological ones I should say. Me and Potter, erm, Harry didn't get on in school." He ran his hands through his hair in nervousness.
Harry scoffed, "Didn't get on? We hate, or should I say hated, each other."
"That would explain why you ignored each other at the induction meal," Harry's dad said lightly. "Unfortunately for you, you'll have to get over that."
"Unless you want the world to know you are from another world," Sirius added in comedic effect.
"Which we don't think is a good idea." They finished together.
Harry turned to Remus, "Don't you have the feeling they are exactly like Fred and George."
Remus nodded, but before he could respond, Sirius laughed, "Na, they wish they were funny as we are."
Kathleen hit him lightly, "cut it, or I'll have to give you butter to grease your head to get it through the door, it is so big."
"Does this mean none of the kids are born in your time?" Harry's mother asked, trying to bring the conversation back to the point at hand.
"Apart from Malfoy, erm, Draco and Myself, out of the parents here, no," Harry informed them.
"What about the Longbottoms? Do they have any children?" His mother continued. She was very close to Alice, so she was very invested in knowing what happened to them in this other world.
Harry and Remus shared a look before Harry shrugged, "Neville was born. But, erm, Frank and Alice got hit with the cruciatus and were tortured so bad, they never recovered. So Neville's gran brought him up."
"Augusta raised him?" Sirius said in disbelief, "I can't imagine she would be able to do that."
"Why?"
"Well, she's a ghost." Sirius finished.
"What?!" Harry exclaimed in disbelief. "Well, she is very much alive in our world."
"How did she die?" Remus asked cautiously, not sure he wanted the answer.
"Erm, she seemed to take the place of Neville's parents in your world. She was tortured and killed back when Neville was one year old. She remained as a ghost and resides in her old house, which thankfully isn't the same house Alice and Frank own and live in with their four." Sirius explained quickly.
"Were you friends with Neville, Harry?" Harry's mother asked.
"Erm, kind of. We weren't close or anything, but I'd call him a friend, I think."
"You'll have to get used to him being your best friend now." She smiled.
"The problem is, we aren't the people you remember." Severus said slowly, "We have different temperaments, have been through different things, etc. How are we going to be convincing."
"You were a spy for Dumbledore, you'll be fine." Remus pointed out.
Harry looked at him in surprise.
Severus caught the expression and laughed once, "Yep. I wasn't the cold-hearted monster you think I am."
"Are we telling Dumbledore all of this?" Harry asked once the discussion was drawing to a close.
The adults that weren't from the alternate reality looked at his question with surprise. "Harry, why would we tell Dumbledore?" Sirius asked incredulously.
Harry shared a look with Remus, Severus, and Draco, "Maybe he could help." Harry started.
Remus interrupted him, "In our world, Dumbledore was the only one Voldemort ever feared. He ran the order, and we went to him for a lot of things.
"In our world, Dumbledore did lead the order, but we don't have him on a pedestal. We know he is just a man who makes good decisions but also bad decisions. We trust him, but will go on our own lead for a lot of things." Harry's mother informed them.
"Right, I think we should round it up now." His father said, "But I'd recommend Harry and Draco, that you hang out tomorrow, to get to know each other. If anyone will give this away, it will be you two."
Draco and Harry had looks of horror on their faces, "Can we not just tell them we are in an argument?"
His mother shook her head firmly, "You two never fought so much that you don't talk. You bicker and wind each other up, but more like brothers than anything. Plus, the punishment for fighting is to be stuck to each other for 24 hours."
They gasped in horror, "That's evil!" Harry protested.
"It works." His father retorted simply, "And that's all that matters. Plus, either you end up making friends with them, or you both hate it, which makes you avoid it all costs."
"Right, we are off," Kathleen said, standing up.
"Of course, dear," Sirius said immediately, making the other adults smirk at him. "Come on, Draco, we will probably be back tomorrow, so you and Harry here can have 'bonding time.'
It now everyone's turn to smirk at the boys. After that, everyone left, but Harry's mum pulled Severus aside to talk to him. Harry really wanted to know what they were talking about, so he made his way over as casually as possible. To his dismay, his father intercepted him.
"You'll find out sooner rather than later what they are talking about."
"If you were me, you would try and find out." Harry countered.
His father considered this for a moment before nodding, "Yep, I would. And that is why I am intercepting you. You may be from a different world, but you are still my son, now come on, we have time to play some exploding snap's before bed."
