Chapter 9: The Quidditch world cup (part 1)
16th August 1994
The few days leading up to leaving for the quidditch world cup final were manic and crazy for all of the adults involved. This was primarily for Lily, Kathleen, Tanya, and Lya. They had to organise food, sleeping arrangements, pack clothes, and keep their children from killing each other with pent up energy and excitement.
Harry especially found that as he got more comfortable in his new life, he found himself arguing with his twin brothers more and more. Especially as they liked to prank him in the middle of the night (putting flobberworms in his pillow, setting dungbombs off, yelling at the top of their voices, and scaring him). It was never bad arguments, just a lot of bickering, which Harry struggled to deal with as he never had this before. However, his relationship with Megan just got stronger. She told him about her feelings for the Black-haired brown-eyed Snape (Caleb if you are losing track) and how her best friend Ginny fancied Neville Longbottom. This piece of knowledge came as a surprise at first, until he remembered the round-faced, nervous boy he knew in his old world wasn't the sure, confident, ladies man he knew in this one.
When he found out that the Weasley's were also going to the world cup and taking Hermione with them, Harry was sad to know he would not be joining them. Thankfully, they managed to get tickets and a pitch not far from where Harry and his family would be.
17th August 1994
The day before the quidditch world cup brought excitement into the Potter household. They were woken up at 5am by James yelling at the top of his voice (with the Sonorous charm, might I add) that it was in his words' TIME TO GET UP AND GET TO THE FINAL'. This didn't even damp Harry's mood. However, Megan came into his room grumbling about 'why can dad not wake us up normally,' before flopping next to him on his bed. Harry laid there for a few moments before playfully pushing Megan off the bed and getting up. Megan was surprised at the sudden action but managed to catch herself at the last minute.
At this point, Lily came into Harry's room, ordering Megan to go and get ready, before telling Harry who he would be sharing a room in the tent with. "You'll be in a room with Draco, Bryon, and Caleb, and Sam, Megan, Lauren, will be in the other room. It seemed like he would never manage to get away from the blond boy.
But before Harry objected, Lily continued, "No, Harry, I won't hear it. It will raise too many questions for you to not be with them. Just be grateful Lyas isn't bunking with you. I don't he will ever get over being outed like that."
Harry recoiled and didn't appreciate being blamed for something he didn't even do, even if his alter ego did, "That wasn't my fault!" He objected furiously.
Lily softened, "I know, son. But as far as most of the world know, it is. Lyas needs someone to blame, and unfortunately, you are his scapegoat."
"Who is he going with?"
"He is going with the Weasleys, another reason why you aren't."
Before he could object further, Lily his room telling him to pack as he didn't the day before. Harry mumbled as he continued getting ready. When he walked down to the kitchen, Matt (who was already eating) noticed he was in a mood.
"What's with him?" He pointed to his older brother, who was mumbling into his cereal.
"Oh, he is annoyed that he can't share with Ron and Neville," Lily answered smoothly while continuing to pack bags full of food for the trip.
At that moment, James came through the kitchen ceiling, from his bathroom; as he fell, he missed the kitchen table by inches. Lily looked at her husband, annoyed. "James, I don't have time to fix that!" She pointed to the hole in the ceiling.
However, Matt and Ryan (who walked in just as James fell) were impressed and high-fived their father.
James stumbled into a standing position, "Not, oh, I hope you are okay, James."
Lily looked annoyed, "If I knew it was an accident, then I would, but this has happened twice before."
Harry ignored the whole ordeal and didn't even flinch, still very upset about the sleeping arrangements.
Once everyone had eaten, the family members who had actually packed brought all their overnight bags to the family room. In contrast, the remaining family members (the twins) sprinted to actually do what they were told while Lily waited for them. The rest flooed to Sirius' house. James went first, followed by Megan and Harry.
They arrived in the floo room, and Byron (who looked like a smaller version of Lyas had a smirk on his face was leaning against the wall opposite the fireplace. "We are waiting for you in the family room." The 14 years old) pushed himself off of the wall and walked ahead of them into the family room.
'He is exactly how Regulus was.' James thought to himself.
As soon as James walked into the room, he yelled, "PADFOOT!"
Sirius brightened up (as he was being yelled at by Kathleen for not helping pack the food for the kids) yelled back, "PRONGS, hold me!" Sirius ran at James, who thankfully was ready and picked Sirius up bridle style.
Kathleen, who was making sandwiches, rolled her eyes, "If we weren't happily married, I'd think you two were secretly getting married.
"I'm sure mum wouldn't mind if they did get married. He literally fell through the kitchen ceiling this morning." Megan said.
"Sirius, don't be getting ideas," Kathleen said immediately as Sirius' eyes brightened. "Actually, go and find your son, we need to be leaving soon, and I won't have him sulking all the way through the match."
James dropped Sirius on the floor and walked to Harry to cheer him up or annoy him, depending on your perspective. Lyas was sat opposite Harry, completely ignoring him.
Sirius grumbled and got up off the floor and walked through a series of hallways to the opposite side of the house. The Black Manor had 8 bedrooms, with a wing for the kids, the games room, the music room, the old playroom, and a wing for the adults and the guests, the kitchen, the family room, and the downstairs bathroom.
Sirius knocked on Draco's door and came in when he got a muffled reply. "Come on, your mother is complaining that you are not down yet and the Potters have arrived."
Draco had a pillow over his head and didn't move at Sirius' arrival. So Sirius walked over to his bed and sat down in the gap. "Go away," Draco muttered still into his pillow.
Sirius laughed slightly, which jarred Draco, who finally moved onto his back. "Ah, there he is," Sirius said when Draco moved the pillow from his face to glare at him. "Before I say anymore, I am going to ward the door from unwanted listeners." Sirius silently warded the room from his position on the bed. "Now, I know you haven't spent a lot of time with me, but I am probably the only person who has some idea of what you are going through."
Draco looked at him with incredulous disbelief, "How do you have any idea what I am going through? You weren't abducted from your home and world. You weren't transported into a weird alternate reality that means your parents are locked up, and your fake parents were your old enemies.
Sirius' eyes flashed hurt, but it disappeared almost as soon as it arrived, "I am going to let that slide, as I know you are hurting. But I have been your father for 13 years, Draco. I have adopted you and have loved you unconditionally."
"No, you did that for the other Draco, Draco Black, not Draco Malfoy."
"True," Sirius conceded, "but that doesn't make it any less true. I know you are annoyed that you are in this predicament, but our lives have been disrupted too. So please meet me halfway."
Draco searched his eyes for any hint of deception but didn't find any. "Fine," Draco said finally, somewhat stubbornly. "You said that you understand. How?"
Sirius sighed, "Draco, how much do you know about my life when I was younger?"
"I know that in pureblood circles, you were a blood traitor and was the first Black ever to be a Gryffindor."
Sirius nodded, "That is the official version, but it was way more complicated than that. Growing up, I believed everything a good pure-blooded boy should. I did nothing to anger my parents. I wasn't a disappointment, not at first. My twin brother also agreed with everything I did. Still, he was more cautious and wanted to research everything he put Auntie Lils and Hermione to shame. He started to look up the family tree, and the more he found, the more he realised certain things we believed had no strong basis."
"I didn't know you had a twin brother," Draco stated.
Sirius nodded, "Very few people did. He was a behind-the-scenes kind of guy, unassuming. He could disappear into the background without anyone really realising. Regulus (our younger brother) was more off Standish, but not Rigel. He was sorted into Slytherin but became good friends with Auntie Lily and Uncle Sev. He was well-liked by everyone, but very few people could say they really knew him. Any questions so far?"
"Yeah, I have one." Draco started and carried on when Sirius nodded for him to go ahead, "What was he researching exactly?"
"Well, in Grimmauld Place, there is a large tapestry that is basically a huge family tree. He started looking into some of the names on the tapestry. I think our grandfather, Pollux Black, was the first name. He found that he was a huge sympathiser for blood purity and brought his children up to believe what he did. He organised an arranged marriage for my mother, Walburga Black, with my father, Orion Black. Rig found that they were second cousins, which weirded us both. So he then looked into what effects marrying such a close relative would do to future generations. He found that it could create mentally unstable future generations for any human. But inbreeding with purebloods only actually restricts the magic. And Muggle blood actually strengthens the magic, not dilutes it."
"Why is this the case?"
"Well, it's hard to explain, but the gist of it is this. Purebloods just marrying purebloods makes the magical pool smaller and smaller, and the magic actually becomes restricted and weaker. Muggle-borns bring new genes and new variations of magic into the magical pool. This creates stronger and more versatile magic that is far-reaching. Learning these things shook the foundation that I always believed in. As a 10-year-old, it was a lot to deal with. I couldn't in good conscious believe that our blood purity was a good thing. Plus, as muggle-borns come from magical families producing squibs who marry muggles, and many generations later, the magic pops up again randomly. Therefore muggles-borns can't 'steal' the magic. If they went back far enough, they would eventually find a magical family they are distantly related to."
"How did your family react to this?"
"Well, we kept our findings a secret, and no one knew that we had a differing of opinion in regards to the whole thing. It was so accepted as part of our culture, and as truth, few people questioned it. But as I went on to the Hogwarts express and Met Prongs (Uncle James), I could be honest about my opinions on it for the first time. Rig, was with me on the train. However, as the more reserved twin, he kept his opinions to himself. As he still had a lot of Slytherin characteristics so got sorted in Slytherin. When I got sorted into Gryffindor, my parents were furious. My father became distant and abusive, and my mother became enraged and violent. We argued all the time, I officially became the disappointment of my family. Although they still let me live at home, this went on until I was 16. I was in my 5th year of Hogwarts. I met Riddle for the first time, who was just turned Voldemort at that point. We were at the Black Christmas party, and Bella decided to invite him along. I got an official invitation to join the death eaters, and I refused," Sirius put his hands through his hair. "And, erm, you don't say no to Voldemort and get away with it. I was hit many times that week and had multiple meetings with Voldemort, who tried to convince me with charm, and cruciatus curses, to change my mind. When I didn't follow suit ended up completely disowned and nearly died. Thankfully I had a locket on that Uncle James gave me that I could activate when I was in danger. I managed to stumble outside of the house; Uncle James and his dad came and got me."
"Why are you telling me all this?"
"Because I know what it is like to go from believing everything my parents say to realising the cracks in the belief system. I know what it is like to have your worldview change Draco in dramatic ways."
"I don't know what to think," Draco said finally.
Sirius smiled, "I know Dragon, but you don't need to know right now. I will love you unconditionally no matter what. I will never disown you or stop being your father, even if you don't want me to be. The only thing I ask is that you don't push your family or me away. You are safe here to explore this with us."
"I can't exactly talk openly about it with Byron and Lyas." He countered.
"You can talk with Lyas; he knows," Draco looked surprised, "It's a long story. I'll fill you in later. you can talk openly with me and with your mother."

The Potters and the Blacks walked from Black Manor (that is in Ashill in Norfolk) to the Portkey (which was at the old manor, in Saham Toney, a two-mile walk (so they could get the 'full muggle experience' (in Lily's words)
But finally, after much grumbling, they made it. "Now we need to find the portkey." They searched out on the hill and after 10 minutes, until Lily took pity on them and finally said, "Accio portkey', the grey bucket flew into Lily's hand.
"What happened to the 'full muggle experience'? Sirius questioned.
"We are going to miss the porkey. Everyone gather around. We only have a few minutes. left, and I'd rather not miss it." She explained. 2 minutes later, she said, "3, 2, 1!" before they were all whisked out of Norfolk.
They landed on a large field with two wizards that were trying and failing to look like muggles. One was dressed in a posh suit holding a giant watch, and the other looking like a pioneer from the 17th century holding a scroll and a quill. "Morning, James." The pioneer said moodily, talking the bucket out of Lily's hands.
"Ah, hi, Jackson, we are here for the world cup," James responded unnecessarily.
"You and the rest of wizarding Brittan." Jackson muttered, "Here you are, Potter and Black. You are both in field 1 around half a mile in that direction," He pointed behind him, "You are right next to the Lupins and Snapes. The Weasleys are on the other side of the field next to the Longbottom's. Ask for Mr Roberts."
Once they walked the set amount, they came across a small stone house with a gate next to it that led to a giant field that housed a good few hundred tents.
Lily walked up to the muggle that clearly was a muggle, "Hi, Mr Roberts, we have 2 tent plots for Potter and Black."
Mr. Roberts looked up at her, "We are never this busy, especially with pre-bookings. But you are in plot 54 and 55. Where are you from?" He said conversationally, getting the map for them.
"I am from Cokeworth." Lily answered smoothly, "I live in Devon now with my family, but we really should get on. How much do we owe you?"
"10 pounds each, please."
"I'm paying for both, so here is £20." Lily gave him the money quickly. Being muggle-born was useful for somethings, James and Sirius would have struggled. Once Lily got the maps, she walked in the direction she was pointed to, not waiting for her family to catch up.
Some of the tents were clearly muggle tents, with magical enhancements but somewhere clearly magical. "Will people not get suspicious with tents like that?" Harry pointed to a three-story tent, which looked more like a large house.
Lily nodded, "Yep. That's why we have a team of oblivators on hand. I hate that we have to do that, but I do understand why. Now here we are." She pointed to two large plots next to each other. "James, please tell me you brought the tents?"
James rolled his eyes, "Of course, I did, Lily dearest."
Lily narrowed her eyes at him but looked clearly relieved when James brought 2 tents out of his pocket. She looked around before pointed at the tents to enlarge them. "You're not supposed to, but I'd rather not fight with a bunch of wizards who never have to carry any large item with them," Lily explained when Harry raised an eyebrow. "We are, however, making them up the muggle way. Kath, Meg, let's show these men how it is done."
Kathleen was a muggle-born, and Megan had been camping with Ginny and Luna multiple times in the summer and had to do it the muggle way.
Within 10 minutes, they had both tents up and structurally sound. One tent looked like a muggle 4-man tent, and the other looked like a muggle 6-man tent. Lily had the sense to get Harry to come in with her to check that they were 'suitable.' Harry thought it was a lame excuse, but he understood why when they went inside the 6-man tent. The tent looked more like a small apartment, with 2 large bedrooms, two bunk beds in each, a kitchen, a large living room area, and a fully functioning bathroom.
Lily looked at her stunned eldest and wrapped her arm around his shoulder, "I know, I had this reaction when I first saw a magical tent. But son, you don't have the muggle background you did in the other world, so you need to try and act like this is normal."
"How? I lived in a cupboard for the first 11 years of my life. I was catapulted into a new world whilst trying to hide the fact that I'm not from here," Harry waved around him. He stopped his tracks, seeing his siblings in the doorway.
Lily forgot to but a silencing charm around the area,
"Otherworld?" Megan said, confused, "What are you talking about?" She looked at her older brother, "Who are you?"

Authors note: I am so sorry for the enormous gaps between uploads. I had massive authors block for a while and needed to read parts of the goblet of fire to write it. I haven't taken quotes from the book, but I have used it to inform my writing. And I may use quotes in the future when describing the Triwizard tournament etc. I have tried something different with this chapter, so tell me if you prefer this writing style or if you prefer the other style. Please review. They make my day, and don't forget to alert and follow the story if you so wish! Much love, and Happy new year! Abs xxx
