"Are we all set?" A man asked as he stepped forward, his features shrouded in the shadows of the cool dark room as he waited.

"Yes, Sir. Everything is ready."

"Good," he murmured as he pushed his glasses up on the bridge of his nose before he let his attention drift to the multiple monitors, his grin widening. "Let the games begin U.A. High."

Alexis Knight tilted her head to the side as her Bluetooth device in her ear let her know of a call coming in. As it read off the number and the name associated with it. She sighed from where she sat on a hidden cove of the building she was stationed on. Her vantage point gave her a nice view of a few of the buildings around her. "Decline call, " she muttered, as her fingers pressed against the bridge of her nose. He never gives up.

"Call accepted."

What the fuck! I didn't say that!

As those words reached her ears she was on her feet. "Shit, shit." She cursed as her fingers pulled down the zipper of her half-sleeved pink leather jacket. She pulled at the padded inner lining that protected her smartphone.

The line clicked over, as her fingers curled around the device. Lexi held her breath, silent with her finger poised over the red end call button, but she hesitated to hang up. That was her first mistake.

"I'm surprised you answered. Usually, it goes straight to voicemail. I never know if you listen to what I have to say." Enoki sighed into the phone, and she could hear the way it creaked under his hold. She could imagine him running his fingers through his hair as his anger at her and the situation seeped through. It had been six years more than enough time for others to move forward and yet here she was avoiding it all. She had to make efforts to change that. Maybe she could- Her thoughts derailed at his next words.

"Sensei told me you were in town-"

"When?" She hated how small her voice sounded as her eyes burned and the pain in her chest swelled, as she swallowed, forcing out her next words. "When'd he tell you?" Her fingers gripped her phone in a death grip. She bowed her head, just how long was her past going to hold her hostage?

How long would she run from it? She couldn't run forever...and yet hearing his voice placed her in a downward spiral.

"A little after 3:30, I called him to see if he could recommend a buddy I know for UA's support department, but that's not important now. What about you?"

Anything he said after that was a big ball of white noise as her mind flashed back to the Musutafu High Rise.

The world around her melted away revealing the broken hallways, the heavy cement blocking at various other access points. There were spaces of the flat surfaces that left pockets of safety, but most were so small, they were impassible. The lower area of the Garage had begun to sink and collapse, thus forcing one of the two buildings to tilt at an angle and hit the second portion of the building, which resulted in the first building collapsing in on itself. The destruction wasn't natural, there was no reason as to why the building's integrity should have been compromised as it had been.

Her fingers curled along the back of his uniform as she dragged him further down the ruined hallway. Her arm throbbed in pain, she'd broken it in her original fall...but she ignored it. She'd found Enoki first by accident. She'd been attempting to go lower down the garage, but the stairwell had been blocked by too much debris for her to move by herself. He'd taken a hit to the head and he was bleeding. At first, she'd thought he'd been a civilian casualty, but she'd caught sight of his suit in the darkness only by chance from the light on her phone. Her radio wasn't working and her phone had no reception.

"You're so heavy Enoki, you need to lay off the sweets," she grumbled but still she didn't dare borrow any energy from him, it would make carrying him easier...but she couldn't risk it. She'd splinted his broken leg as best she could, but there was only so much she could do. "We'll get through this...we just have to hang on a little longer."

The hallway had eventually opened into a stairwell at the end of it. After several moments of assessing if the structure would hold their weight, she made the decision to go up, the pathway going down was broken, the gap to the other side was wide, but it was one she could make on her own. She'd have to strengthen her legs and get a running start, but there was no way she could make it with him. Thus their ascent started. She wouldn't leave him behind, not here.

Syphon had to rest after going up three and a half floors, as she sank down onto the steps of the stairwell, she'd been pulling him up, it was still relatively intact. Lexi pulled her arm closer to her chest as it throbbed and spasmed as the muscles tried to contract around the broken bones. She breathed slowly in through her nose and out through her mouth as she was careful to keep herself from vomiting. She couldn't leave him here, but she also had to find a way to get to the lower levels, she was still aware of Saten and Ryuu who'd been doing a sweep of the garage, it had been only a precaution...there wasn't supposed to be anything nefarious afoot. She squeezed her eyes shut and tried to tamper down the anxiety that slithered inside. 'This is bad…'

The low hiss of pain had her snapping her gaze to Enoki who was carefully beginning to sit up. His arm curled around his middle and his deep blue eyes closed. "Careful," she said quickly, the fingers of her good hand pressing against his shoulder to keep him still. "You were pretty banged up when I found you, your right leg is broken." she continued keeping her voice even and calm, but it was clear she'd shut down her emotions the moment he'd woken up.

"Wh-" he paused and swallowed as he opened his eyes looking up at her from the middle of her legs, her feet planted along his sides and under his arms to keep him from sliding down the stairs. "What about you?"

"My arm's broken from a fall. It's nothing serious. What's the last thing you remember, En?"

The blaring of the UA alarm system sounded for a moment to signify the start of the exam. It was enough of a sound that it had her jerking back to the present. She clamped her eyes shut and took a steadying breath. "I gotta go," she said quickly as she pressed the button to end the call without giving him a chance to say anything.

For a moment she stood there getting her bearings, regarding the cityscape in front of her. This wasn't the first time she wondered if taking this position was a good idea, it was turning into a spiral of problems she would need to face, either putting them behind or taking the first step to confront the past. She was already here, wasn't it past time to stop running?

You need to focus! Alexis thought harshly to herself as she shoved her phone back in her pocket. She ran her hand up over her bound hair, hating the way for a moment it shook. With another breath, she pushed it away as her blue eyes caught sight of several students already taking an early lead. She was awestruck, to be able to fly high above the clouds, above most of the people...must be something special. The envy was an interesting feeling, it wasn't exactly anything new.

Prove you belong here.

She sank back into the cover she'd left and pulled out a small portable device that looked very much like an invisible keyboard and began to take notes on the examinees that she could see from her current vantage point, so far to say the least a few had impressed her. Her visor over her eyes allowed her to zoom in at a distance thanks to the computerized AI that was in the frame, allowing her to see far better than most at what was going on as the exam began.

Her finger slipped over a button, and the views changed over her right eye, giving her the camera's view of several smaller drones that UA had incorporated in this exam. Each drone was programmed to follow one of the occupants; at a distance, most wouldn't notice them, and it allowed the faculty to keep an eye on each examinee. Getting a good test of their capabilities. This exam wasn't like their past ones with the robots, this was something else entirely and a lot of riding on its success.

"Things are progressing well don't you think?" She asked softly more to herself than to anyone else as she hadn't switched over to the coms channel everyone else was using yet.

'There are too many people,' Yasei Haruki thought to himself as he shifted his stance wanting to get out of the crowd, he didn't like the fact they had set so many of them in such easy competition with each other. He rocked back on his heels using his height to his advantage as he considered just what he was going to do about all these people who were in his way of doing well on the exam. He curled his fingers into a fist and didn't bother with his mask just yet. When the shrill ring of sound had indicated the start of the exam, many had rushed forward attempting to get a head start.

He had stopped to tie his shoe when one of the laces had come undone and as he glanced ahead at the kids running ahead of him. "Seems too easy doesn't it?" he questioned the navy-haired young man who had hung back with him. When he didn't get any response, but a scowl for his trouble, Yasei found himself giving the guy a wide smile as he slipped past him. The zing of electricity that traveled past his feet caused him to instinctively leap back a step or two.

His gaze slammed into the pile of bodies that just so happened to be his fellow examinees who were all in such a rush to get the flags that they all needed to pass to the next round. He couldn't tear his eyes away as he watched them all shove at each other or attempt to get ahead of the pack. It was all so interesting to watch.

As they give varying degrees of strangled sounds, before their bodies had convulsed like someone would when having a seizure as bright blue electricity had wrapped around them all, traveling up from the ground to their legs and going higher up their bodies just before they all fell face-first into the dirt that separated this starting area from the cityscape just in the distance.

Don't laugh, this is ser-

The poorly concealed snort was the first sound to escape before Yasei just gave up attempting to hide his sense of humor as his hands pressed against his knees and he laughed with his full body. "Man, so glad that wasn't me! I'd have been so pissed, but damn that had to hurt!" He said as he wiped under his eye and dragged a hand back through his red hair.

While he may have seemed at ease and without a care, he was far from underestimating the tall, muscular sixteen-year-old who had caused the catastrophe that had happened to the other examinees. He's gotta go.

He shook his head and let his attention divert, as his nonchalance became his shield.

"Never thought I'd be glad for this," he muttered to himself as he stabbed his dress shoe into the dirt, before dragging his foot forward a little and then back as he pretended to search for who had caused the electrical minefield, but he knew exactly who it was, but he foreigner ignorance. The last thing he needed was to become a target too, he wasn't sure he could fight the guy and win and he didn't want to be out for the count so soon. Interesting way to get ahead though. "Gotta give 'em credit for the life-sized bug zapper," he joked, as he watched out of the corner of his eye the navy-haired sixteen-year-old standing a few feet from him. Haruki wasn't sure how to leave without drawing too much attention to himself.

The guy was sizing him up, he could feel his eyes on him, it made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end and he didn't like the feeling of being scrutinized. He stood to his full height, shifting his stance and letting his hand fall to his side as the two of them sizing each other up, light brown eyes meeting gold.

"Got a problem?" Yasei wondered curiously as they began their staring match. He loved staring matches, it was always fun to see who would blink first. It was a game he'd been good at even as a kid, he also had another talent for getting people to laugh. They just weren't always the ones doing the staring matches, the other kids though found his underhanded ways to be amusing at least during elementary and middle school.

The golden-eyed boy hadn't let his attention waver as he'd not responded to his taunt and had merely regarded him with a critical stare.

The redhead waited a beat and then another, Yasei couldn't keep his body from tensing up as the seconds ticked by. He felt his skin flutter along his forearms, his skin shifting just slightly as the pores in his skin opened wider and small pieces of bone began to slowly inch outward along his arms as neither made an aggressive move, but that made the tension between them worse. The smallest thing would set either of them off.

"Cat got your tongue?" He pressed unable to help himself.

The other boy only rolled his eyes as a scoff of sound escaped his lips. The click of his tongue in response to his taunting went virtually unanswered.

He's looking down on me, that smug fucker! Yasei thought as he watched the boy's powers flutter across his fingers in visible arcs of deadly, blue light.

He's daring me to make a move, I can't afford to end up like the rest. Scowling, Yasei found himself making a decision as he raised his hands' palms up as he stepped back. A small sign of retreat, that he conceded.

"I don't have time to play around with you!" He growled boldly as he turned on his heel in his fancy dress shoes and walked away. His hands stuffed in the pockets of his slacks, no one would be able to see the way they trembled as he clenched them into fists. His heart was pounding inside his chest.

As nonchalant as he looked Yasei was waiting with every step he took further and further toward the city streets to be shot in the back. Just keep walking, just keep walking. He chanted in his head, as his quirk spread over every portion of his body under his suit. He wanted every advantage he could get.

When he reached the city streets, he couldn't help but chance a glance behind him to see it empty. The other boy wasn't gone. Thank fuck! That's not someone I wanna mess with so early in the game!

Yasei breathed a little easier as he strolled through the streets looking for the flags they would need to pass, what he noticed was that none or very few seemed to be easily visible.

60 minutes...that time will get eaten up before you know it. Remember you need one hundred points. Blue's are 10, Green 20 and yellow 30...if you can find a purple it's an instant pass.

Hareyakana frowned to herself as feathers grew along her arms and her feet shifted to talons. She took a leap into the air and flapped her newly formed wings as the exam had started, with another powerful flap of her wings she was well above the heads of the other examinees and one more and she was about two stories in the air, she didn't stop her ascent until she was high enough that only someone with a powerful ranged quirk or another flyer would give her any problems.

Many will be looking for that purple flag...most will probably ignore it. The flags aren't the only way we can get points - taking them from others is probably how we can get other points. I don't want to bank on that. I'll get the flags I need, better to be safe and ensure I get to the next round.

Her bright eyes scanned the buildings she could see in the setting sun. There was a faint reflection as she scanned the rooftops that caught her attention. She almost missed it, but on her second pass, she saw it again. She tucked her wings and dove for the rooftop, flaring out her wings and landing on taloned feet as she regarded the flag that was tied to one of the metal vents. Is it really that easy? She couldn't help but wonder with her eyes narrowed and her lips pressed together.

A sudden faint noise echoed around the pipes of the area and she withdrew another step away from the flag. A woosh of hot air was felt skimming past her as smoke filled the area as a metal clang could be heard as something thunked over by the flag, the smoke caused her to raise her winged arm to cover her nose, as she tried to peer through the thick dark smoke.

That moment of distraction was all it took, that moment's hesitation on her plan of attack as a heavy set of feet slammed into her chest and sent her off her feet and over the edge of the roof in a free fall. Her eyes widened as she saw a girl with black hair and glowing amber eyes, her fingers clutched around the yellow flag, her body suspended over the gap.

"You shouldn't have hesitated, it's nothing personal. Better luck next time!" she called out with a wave as her feet flared with more fire and she was gone in a streak of heavy black smoke, that glowed faintly of amber from the flames she admitted to keeping herself airborne.

Reya clamped her mouth shut to avoid biting her tongue and flapped her wings to slow her descent to the ground below. She was able to right herself and slam her taloned feet against the ground with her legs bent as she absorbed her landing and pushed off into the air once more. Going after the girl from earlier wasn't a wise move instead she stayed closer to the higher building levels, her sharp eyes looking for any other flags she might be able to find. She spotted a green one tied to a fifth-story building and increased her speed as she flew past it, her talons lashing out to grab the flag and snatch it as she flew past. 80 points left.

She angled her body and sped away, shoving the flag in the satchel-like bag that was provided for her. Humans should remain on the ground where they belong. She thought venomously.

The young shifter caught the flash of movement below as she angled her body upward, her sharp eyes following the movement out of trained habit as she tried to be more aware of her surroundings. She watched those below scrambling to search the area for the flags hidden, not all we're easily seen from outside the buildings, some were hidden inside she was sure, but she didn't dare to limit herself to a close-quarters fight. She had to stick to her strengths and the open atmosphere was her domain. She arched her body into the tight space of an alleyway as she showed her ability to evade as a lonesome hopeful on the ground believed they would be able to shoot her down. The hardened needles were harmlessly embedded into the wall as she tucked her wings in close and only pushed back into the sky the moment she had the needed space to flap her wings and ascend once more out of range.

You're too slow!

She raised her body to encase the still setting sun as she lit her body on fire, the blue flames bright as she dived down toward the boy who had tried to shoot at her. Reya flipped her body around at the last second and used her forward momentum to slam her taloned feet into the boy and send him crashing to the ground. Her talons curled as she gripped the fabric of his costume as she leaned fully on him, forcing him to take all of her weight, to make it easier to keep him pinned.

To make sure he didn't get any dumb ideas she made the flames along her talons hotter in warning to keep still unless he wanted to get burned. "I wouldn't move if I were you," she warned him with a wide grin. "Unless of course, you want to get burned," she advised as she carefully burned the straps of the bag.

As her the boy squirmed, flinching as the straps caught fire and lingered far too close to his body.

One of her hands shifted briefly back to human form as she reached into the burning bag to grab the blue flag nestled there, "I'll be taking this." she replied as if she were just borrowing it rather than taking it to keep.

Her grin was trumpet, she couldn't help her elation, she hoped that Ren was doing alright with this little assignment. "Thanks for the help," she told him with a small smirk before she shifted her taloned feet and darted away from him, her fingers briefly shoving her haul in her own bag before she was airborne in moments, staying on the ground for too long was too risky and it wasn't something she wanted to deal with any time soon.

Location: UA Monitor Room

"Remind me again who that was?" Nemuri Kayama, better known to the students as Midnight raised her hand to gesture at one of the monitors that froze and rewound back to pause on the black-haired young girl who slammed her burning feet into the chest of another examinee who it could appear was also able to fly and successfully took the flag she'd been aiming for.

A few of the teachers murmured their agreements and it was Alexis who answered her question, her voice filling the room from the microphone that was in her ear and allowing her to easily talk with the others back in the control room. As everyone let their attention waver for a moment, her face filled a portion of one of the monitors. She was standing in the setting sun of one of the taller buildings. Her gaze on something in the distance, before she let her attention return to those sitting around the room.

"The young black-haired girl is Simon Wilson, she's from Shiketsu High. While her parents are civilians, their quirks, while useful in their own way, were not adapt enough to allow either to venture into the hero world. Her father set his sights on law work, and her mother stays at home with her younger siblings. Simon is the only biological child of the Wilson's. It is unusual for a child to have her parents' quirks blended well enough to be of use, but as you have seen she's managed to make it work for her."

"And the other young woman? She looks familiar." Ectoplasm asked, speaking up, his attention shifting to the light blue-haired girl's camera feed from one of the drones whose only job was to keep tabs on her. They were doing things differently since the USJ attack.

Alexis smoothed a hand down her hair before tucking it behind her ear as her gaze drifted to something only she could see in the distance. "I would hope she looks familiar to most of you," she couldn't help the tone of that comment as the room descended into stunned silence, before the young woman pressed forward, as though she hadn't low key insulted most in the room.

No one could miss the sound of Present Mic choking on his drink. "You're all looking at the daughter of Pro Hero Firecrest," she paused, making a small hum of sound as she let that sink in.

"That explains it," Snipes commented as he let his fingers brush over his mask as he leaned back in his chair, his arms crossing over his chest.

"She's been at Isamu with her adopted brother Ren, I'm sure we will see more of him as this exam advances,"

"He's the boy with the mutation that makes him look like a cat?" Thirteen asked curiously as she raised her hand slightly and many turned toward her. She was one of the other teachers who had been severely injured in the USJ attack.

"I'd say it's more a panther, he's no house cat, but yeah that's him."

Thirteen merely hummed a reply, not responding that tone from Syphon as she thumbed through the stack of files that everyone else had been given as well. "His file says that he's recently become Valedictorian of the hero course at Isamu, that's quite impressive considering he's only a first-year."

This little tidbit of information caused others to perk up and thumb through their own stacks of papers, giving the young hopeful examinees another look over.

"They are all impressive candidates with a lot of potential for great things, but I wouldn't merely judge them based on that flimsy sheet of paper there. Everyone in this exam was recommended by their teachers, schools, or other heroes. They have just as much to prove standing here as we do after the fuck up that was the USJ."

A few of the teachers weren't happy about her assessment, but she merely regarded them with an impatient glance before she continued with her opinion.

"If I ran a school, I wouldn't be here to just trade my best to UA, unless there was something in it for me, but that's just me, I like to think the Principles of these Hero schools are looking to something else. I wouldn't be surprised if they've reached a conclusion we've all been starting to look at after recent events everyone is getting on the same page. Just because UA was a target and it appears they were after All Might…none of that kept our students immune to the life and death situation they found themselves in at the USJ. They were a target, many lucky to escape without serious injury. Children have never been off-limits, but your society has been blissfully blind for a long time – perhaps the blinders are finally coming off."

No one said anything to her assessment, and in reality, there was little that could be said to refute her. She had a point, it hadn't just been Eraser Head, Thirteen, and Oasis, who had been hurt during the attack, several of their students had suffered injuries, some had been a little more severe than others, but they were alive, they had handled the impossible situation well and now, now it was time to see if these in this Exam would be able to prove themselves to stand on the level of their other hero course students.

"Miss. Knight, while many may not be privy to your time with the Bloodlines Investigation unit, I am. Do not let your lingering paranoia get the better of you, not everything is a conspiracy theory." Those words caused many to cast speculative glances at the others around, their curiosity perked. Principle Nezu lowered his cup of tea and he didn't miss the press of his newest teacher's lips as she held back whatever she'd been about to say to him.

"Whatever you say, Professor," she muttered, unable to help the harsh tone of her words as she pulled herself from the video feed and muted her mic, but was still able to hear everything that was said in the control room.

"That being said, I do believe the other schools are taking notice of the changes and this exam is a show of good faith. Perhaps many are realizing that our petty rivalry needs to end for the sake of the future of our society. Our enemies are getting bolder, stronger and it is time that we all rise to the occasion. Now let's not lose focus, everyone, do pay attention."

With those words from Principal Nezu hanging in the air, everyone turned their attention back to the exam at hand.

Ren had been with the majority when the exam had started, while Reya had easily been able to separate herself and he made the decision to stay with the majority to see what they would do. A few started picking fights immediately, some knocking out the students the moment the exam had started; less competition was probably what they were thinking.

He watched several of the other examinees break away from the group, everyone looking for an advantage, without getting caught in the crossfire of a fight so soon. He wasn't the one who saw her first, no it was someone else who drew the small group's attention to the sky. He had been on the streets between buildings when he too had looked up to see Reya fall in the air. He hadn't seen who had attacked her, but she'd been hit and was falling.

Fingers tightened into a fist and he dug his claws into his furred palm, this was the type of predicament of this exam he wanted to avoid. He found his steps hesitating, enough that one of the others in his small group sneered at him as he passed about being in the way. The sharp jab of the guy's elbow against his side caused him to stumble to the side. He sucked in a sharp, raspy breath for a moment, the blow didn't hurt that bad, but he was left to make a choice to go to Reya, or to continue on his original path.

He growled, his teeth exposed as he considered what little he did know.

I'm sure she's fine…she's tough. I have to believe in her and stay focused just like I told Goro earlier. They'll all be fine!

With his decision made, he cast one last look to where Reya had fallen out of view of the buildings before he slipped down the alleyway. He wasn't sure why he'd stopped at one of the doors leading into the building, but the lingering scent of perfume caused him to regard the metal door with curiosity.

On a test, he pulled the door surprised to find that the metal gave away from its structure without a sound, it wasn't locked and the fact they could enter made his choice for him. He stepped into the darkness of the building's ground floor, pulling the door shut behind him. Once he allowed his eyes to adjust to the darkness, he took a good look around, looking for anything unusual and so far, he's found nothing that would cause alarm and he didn't hear anyone else with him so far. To know that he was completely alone was a strange feeling after being surrounded by so many in the auditorium and as the exam had started.

I doubt they put the flags out in the open; that would be too easy. The exam is designed to test our abilities, and it's set up in a way that multiple students can pass to the next round…whatever that may be. Heroes come in various subclasses, Rescue and Combat are what we see mainly…but Combat isn't everything and the two often overlap.

He took a deep breath as he moved toward the stairs that would lead to the upper levels, the perfume lingered in the air at the base of the stairs, nearly causing him to sneeze, but his finger raised to cut it off, he didn't want to give his location away. Frowning he paused, his nose wrinkling as his whiskers twitched with the movement as he let his gaze travel the stairs and he thought about the possibilities of following the scent to its source.

It could be a trap…or another student with flags. It doesn't seem like a choice needs to be made, If I want to pass either way the only choice is up.

With those lingering thoughts, he felt his tail flick back and forth silently as he began his ascent up the stairs, the perfume was faint and it required a certain level of focus and concentration to follow and still pay attention to his surroundings. His ears perked forward and swirled toward even the faintest noise that he picked up. With another breath in, he slipped into the upper level and found a surprisingly open floor plan with a hallway littered with windows allowing for him to be easily spotted if he wasn't careful. His gaze slid further upward to the beams above his head.

He smirked to himself before he gave a running leap, his barefoot hitting the wall at an angle, his body in a level of such tight control, that he controlled the amount of force he'd hit the wall with. He pushed himself higher on the other wall before he felt his fingertips curl along the edge of the metal beam, his legs rising to curl along it, as he crawled back across the beam toward the other side, falling easily to the other side and beginning once more his hunt for the end of his trail.

The trail twisted and wound through the building, but while it felt like it lasted a while, the time frame was truly only about seven minutes. He frowned as the scent stopped abruptly, his green eyes narrowed and he wondered if he had just been played, but as he was hit with a blast of cold air from the vent above, his hand raised to rub at the base of his neck before raising his eyes to glare up at the vent and the perfume that hit him in the face. His fingers fell to his side for a moment as he stared up at the flag that was hanging from the vent, in a moment of disbelief.

He bent his legs and gave a great leap, his clawed fingers dug into the cloth as it gave way from its loose knot and he grinned to himself as he landed back on his feet. There was more to being a hero than brute force and Ren was rewarded for his change of tactic with a 30 point yellow flag. He'd been about to shove it in his bag when the bright pink posted note that was attached to the end of the flag caught his attention.

Pulling the note free he let his green eyes roam over its contents.

"If you've found this one, can you find the others? There are five more hidden in buildings similar to this one. Good luck!" *Crude drawing of a dog scenting the air*

Ren wasn't able to stop the small tilt of his lips at the drawing. "So childish," he muttered as he finally stuffed the flag in his bag. He glanced at the timer that he could see ticking down from the hot air balloon in the distance from the upper story window. He knew he needed to get moving if he wanted a chance at passing the first part of the exam. He pressed his back against the wall and took a chance to look at the area around him looking for anyone who might be lingering below or even above, he didn't want to make himself a target. He could hear the sounds of a scuffle but none of that mattered to him. He had to stay focused. Keep his eyes on the prize.

He pushed it open as he climbed out slamming his claws into the concrete of the building before he kept climbing upwards toward the roof. He knew he had to hurry, but first he needed a better vantage point.

Little did he realize that he'd been spotted on his way up to the roof.

Yasei had been slipping through the Alleyways but paused as the words of a group of students reached his ears. It wasn't usually something he'd bother with, but it was the name that caused him to pause. Listening intently to the rest of the conversation.

"She'll be easy to knock out of this competition. She gives our school a bad name. Besides without Ren to protect her, it'll be all too easy to break her. She can go back where she belongs."

"It's no secret she's a charity case we don't need."

"Besides you can't tell me that our teacher recommended her, she's scraped the bottom of the barrel in every class we've had. You know she's not even trying, she came in late for the exam!"

"You can't tell me you don't want to wipe that smug look from her. You've seen it, it's like she thinks she's better than us."

As the three boys fed off each other it really wasn't hard to figure out what school they were from, while Airi hadn't mentioned it, it wasn't that hard to put the pieces together. Yasei leaned against the wall that kept him from view as he considered his options: a three-on-one fight wouldn't necessarily be in his favor, but he found that he couldn't just turn a blind eye to this and walk away.

His hands balled at his side as an old memory surfaced.

" Don't be such a loner Haruki! You and I are friends, but the other kids would like you too if you'd just give them a chance."

"They're annoying," he growled as he rounded on his best friend.

The young boy's grin only widened as he laced his hands behind his head. "Don't be like that, they may be a little much sometimes, but not everyone can be as determined as you are you know,"

"That's a nice way of saying I intimidate them!" Yasei told him with a frown. The fact that he'd reacted at all was exactly what Kadokawa was wanting, he wanted him to react, to show that he cared how the others perceived him.

Haruki Kadokawa only chuckled and shrugged his shoulders, refusing to give in to respond. "You're protective of your friends and yeah I know it's only me but people like that about you. Not just anyone can have a friend like you."

They walked down the street in silence for a little while, before Haruki gave him some more unasked for advice. "You may find yourself having to make a choice, just live your life with no regrets."

"Damn it," he muttered as he let his fingers brush along the edge of his chin, his powers fluttering along the edge of his fingers and widening, expanding pouring out of the pores in his skin, the white shiny material that came out, hardened over his face covering it completely as he clenched his fists as the bones decorated each finger up to his elbow below his pin-striped suit. As he stepped out from behind the alleyway, clutched in one hand was the end of a long hard, white object.

The first thing he heard was their screams.

The last thing he heard was their pleas.

It was almost too easy to have gained the upper hand, he had the element of surprise on his side as well as the obvious quirk advantage…but it was mainly his luck with being able to catch the first without them being aware. It had been all too easy to catch him with a savage blow to the side of the head and as he dropped, as the second had a moment of struggling to figure out what had happened to his friend, it was already out like a light as he'd hit him from behind. The third was a little harder and he'd expected it, but none of them were a match for him, the mask covering his face and what could only be described as strange creatures had held down his legs, making it impossible to run away.

"Would you look at that?" The redhead asked as he leaned down his fingers dragging into the hair of the poor sap who had the unfortunate disadvantage of being his third catch of the day. His first two had been the guy's buddies. Yasei grinned behind the mask that hid his identity from view, it really had been their fault to be fair, who would dare devise a plan to beat up his new friend? It wasn't something he could just ignore, now could he? He lifted the guy's gaze to the side of the building where a long black tail was disappearing from view.

"You saw that right?" he asked with a chuckle to himself as he got no response. He wouldn't considering the poor sap was out cold. "Of course you did," he continued his one-sided conversation as he rose to his full height, his black suit with purple pinstripes falling to just below his nice dress shoes. Things were about to get a little more interesting. He'd been paying attention to the conversation between Goro and Airi, when he'd told her that Ren had told him not to bother her. He'd seen them in the Auditorium, that ragtag group had been a little too obvious in their staring after she'd sat down next to him.

Yasei raised his arm and let his weapon rest across his shoulder where it stretched to the other side as he rocked back on his heels, his eyes on the roof where that curious creature had disappeared too. "Where are you off to, little kitty, cat?" he wondered lowly as he caught sight of a black blur leaping from the building he'd just risen to, to another lower building and racing across the rooftops to another location.

"You can run, but you can't hide."

With those words hanging in the air, he let the unconscious male's head hit the ground as he finally seemed to realize he had begun to lift the body with him. He let his tongue drag across his lips for a moment, before his gaze settled on the bags that were such a bright neon green, that you would have to be blind to overlook them, they also released a faint humming noise as though to let everyone know there was something inside.

So yeah the point of the exam was to make them as obvious as possible and they had definitely succeeded.

He also remembered the challenge being waged between himself and his new buddies, his little female raccoon companion, and the far too easy to tease Goro who reminded him of a very large overly friendly failed guard dog. "Can't lose my own bet," he muttered as he curled his fingers along the bags and tugged them easily off the bodies of his first few victims.

His fingers dipped down to brush against the ground and just before the building, a ramp of curved bone came out of the ground allowing him to easily reach the roof, with his own strength and the bone gave him a little more leeway to reach the fourth story. He lingered for a moment watching the black streak's retreating form before he made his way after him. Things were going to get interesting, they always did whenever he began his own form of cat and mouse.

The hunter was about to become the hunted.

Location: Ground Beta - South Side

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Genki called his feet slamming against the pavement as he ran alongside the tall teen whose phone call conversation he'd happened to overhear on his way to the auditorium. He wouldn't say they were close by any means, but he'd take a current alliance with the guy and his girlfriend over facing the current opposition on his own.

"Of course!" Moritsu countered boldly with such confidence that the other couldn't help but believe him. They had broken away from the larger group easily enough, but that had been all Koemi's doing. She'd laced her fingers with his and he'd tried to pull away from her out of reflex, but her baby blue eyes stared into his own imploring him to trust her.

So he'd taken a leap of faith and nodded slowly as the time had ticked down for the exam to start. Koemi had tightened her hold on his fingers and had they not been made of wood he would surely have bruises. He took a breath to still his racing heart as the time ticked down to the start of the exam and the buzzer sounded.

The bright flash of light would have blinded him too, if it wasn't for the fact that Komei had drawn his arm up to cover his own eyes and still had a hold of him.

"Run!" Moritsu had called out the command in his voice had caused others around them to lurch forward in their desperation at the sudden blinding flash of light to flounder and fall to their knees or in other clustered groups as at their feet where vines that had grown out of the ground and ensnared the ankles of several of the examinees.

Komei hadn't let go of his hand until they had put a good bit of distance between themselves and the cursing kids who had gotten caught in their ambush so early on. Once they were clear she'd dropped his hand, her palm slapping against Moritsu as the two jogged easily side by side. "I can't believe that worked!" she gushed to him, still in awe that their plan had worked as well as it had.

"It was my plan so of course it worked," the red-head teased easily.

Koemi only rolled her eyes at him and dropped back to jog with Genki, as she refused to stroke his insecure ego anymore. "Don't let Mori-kun fool you, he only got lucky that none of the others noticed the seeds he dropped among the populace in line at the gate."

Genki could only nod, had he not been paired up with them, he wasn't sure he'd have made it out of there without being caught like the others. He really needed to pay more attention and treat this with more seriousness. He needed to get his head in the game.

"So I noticed your arms earlier, what can you do?" she questioned pausing to peer around one of the cement fences in the suburban district they were in. So far they hadn't seen much of anything which was in itself a little weird. Were they going in the wrong direction?

"I have woodland's arms, it allows me to extend my hands and arms into any shape I want. The only downside is obvious," he told her, watching as Moritsu had dropped back to guard the rear.

"Oh!" the white-haired girl exclaimed before she clamped her hand over her mouth looking sheepish. "Your powers are similar to the Pro Hero Kamui Woods! That's so cool," she told him excitedly as she bounced on the balls of her feet, for a moment forgetting that they were in the middle of an exam.

Genki felt his cheeks heat with color at being even seen as having a similar quirk to his favorite hero. The man had been who he and his twin had looked up ever since he'd first debated in the Hero world. "I'm definitely not in his league," he told her as he scratched at his cheek nervously.

"Don't be silly" she told him with a reassuring smile as the two continued to talk easily back and forth for a moment as they debated their next course of action.

"It's kinda deserted around here," Koemi commented as she hopped up on the fence, her arms pressed up as she peered over the wall into one of the houses. It was strange to not run into anyone else and it left her wondering if they would be able to find any flags with things as they were.

Genki took a look around as he leapt up onto the fence and took another look around the area from his slightly higher vantage point. "It's a little odd isn't it? They made it seem like there would be flags in every area, but we really haven't seen anyone or anything."

"Maybe we aren't looking hard enough," Moritsu affirmed more to himself than to them as he took another look at the houses along the street they lingered at. It really was odd they hadn't found anything, not even other examinees yet and so far there didn't seem to be any obvious flags that would give any of them the necessary points to pass this portion of the exam. He ran his hands back through his hair as he let his gaze travel to the giant air balloon in the sky and the timer that ticked down. They couldn't spend all their time speculating, they needed to hurry up. He had to pass this exam, it was either get into UA or things would only get worse at home for his mom.

His hands balled into fists at his side, anger swirling in his chest as he squeezed his eyes shut and took a breath as he counted in his head to ten. He didn't need to get worked up, not yet. There was still time, he still had a chance. As he let his eyes open, he frowned, catching sight of something off in the distance, something oddly shaped and black. For a minute he almost thought he was imagining it, but as it came in their direction, he knew he was right.

"I'm sure we just ne –" She started, but was cut off as Moritsu had suddenly pressed a finger to her lips, as the two of them hopped off the fence and linger back against one of the narrow side streets.

Everyone fell silent as they strained to hear whatever had caused the other boy to cut their conversation short.

It took a moment before the sound of an engine reached their ears and got steadily closer to their location. A steady Whoop, Whoop. Which sounded like the blades on a helicopter, but far lower in volume.

Moritsu dug his fingers into the pouch discreetly tied to his hero suit and blew into the seeds he held. He flicked one into the street and then threw one at the edge of the fence of one of the lush backyards they hadn't bothered with.

When he held out the third seed to him, Genki blinked owlishly up at the other, his confusion obvious. As he glanced at the small, faintly glowing honey brown seed that was between his thumb and his index finger.

"Take it," Moritsu pressed sternly, the boy's usual exuberance gone and in its place was a stern, serious expression he hadn't noticed before.

"Why?" Woodland's arm user asked, unable to stop the question before it bubbled up. It was smart though to not immediately accept it. But that didn't mean he didn't feel about his refusal. They had helped him already. "Don't you need that for whatever it is you're going to do with them?"

"Consider it a debit paid for earlier." Came the others cryptic reply.

It wasn't hard for Genki to connect the dots, to the incident in question with the phone call he'd witnessed and how the boy had pressed sternly against not telling Komei about it, leaving her in the dark for the time being.

"Alright," he said quietly as he reached out a hand to take it but stilled as his sister's words reached his ears.

"Don't just accept that! What can it even do? You shouldn't just trust them blindly!" Kozue Hayashi scowled at him from where she was just next to Moritsu, but the other boy couldn't see her, no one could, no one but him. "So they helped you out once, big deal!"

The black-haired boy paused his fingers falling back to his side. "What'll it do?" Genki asked softly as Koemi had moved to the other end of the alleyway, but he didn't miss the way that Moritsu followed her, before his gaze was back on him.

"It'll help you out, just throw it at whatever you need to move out of your way."

"Seriously? It'll work just like that?" Genki asked, trying to keep the skepticism out of his voice.

Moritsu Koibito narrowed his amber eyes at him, his demeanor darkening as he began to pull the seed away. "If you're –"

Koemi had placed her hand over Moritsu's mouth to stop whatever words he'd been about to regret as she held the seed out for Genki in the palm of her hand; she'd snatched it right out from under Mori's nose. "He seems pretty insistent, so just take it. It's not very often that he gives out his power like that. Trust me it'll work if you need it. It's his way of looking out for you," she smiled brightly at him, hoping that her words would convince him.

Genki felt almost sheepish for his earlier skepticism, but he knew that Kozue was just looking out for him. It was a risk though in an exam like this trusting other people who were all out for the same thing that he was. Everyone was trying to pass this exam to possibly get a chance at going to UA. He reached out his fingers curling along the seed as he watched it pulse with a faint green light. He put the seed in a special pocket on the front of his chest, it was small with a zipper and would be unlikely for him to lose it. "Sorry," he apologized sincerely as he bowed toward the two of them.

"Don't be so formal," Komei abolished with a wave of her hand.

No sooner had she been about to step closer before she jerked backward as a wall of vines exploded up from the earth, successfully sealing the alleyway, but where she'd been standing at the other end of the alley wall was an impact point.

For a moment no one moved, everyone staring at the hole between the tightly knit veins that reacted to the outside forces that had come into play. "Are you ok?" Moritsu demanded, his voice tight with emotion, his fingers that held her shoulders were shaking.

"W-Was t-that a real b-bullet?" Genki stammered out his green eyes wide.

"I-I'm o-okay," she stammered out, swallowing as she tried again to force the words past her lips. She felt her powers flare along her palms, but her breathing was labored, and panicky. The light condensed at the tips of her fingers, as her own heart pounding inside her chest. Could I have died? Was that real? It feels real, this feels real! Oh my god! It was the spiral of questions rattling around in her brain on repeat, as she tried to control the tremors in her shaking hands.

The whirring noise had only gotten closer and louder before the low hum of sound reached their ears. "Get down!" the other boy shouted as his body slammed into Koemi taking her to the ground as bullets peppered the area just above their head. Her startled scream, still ringing in his ears. Moritsu hadn't had a chance to see if Genki had hit the ground or not, as another wave of bullets shattered the glass around them. He didn't get a chance to do much more than taking cover as he willed the tree he'd seen in the yard next to them, to stretch out its branches to cover them.

A/N: Sorry for the long wait on the beginning of 1Z'sTransfer exam. School and work have been crazy lately. They've been keeping me busy and I'll be honest I got a little stuck on these guys after wrapping up the doozy that was the Orphans initiation into the League.

I antagonized over how to possibly top that or make this exam just as interesting as there are many other writers who have blown their entrance exams out of the water in their stories and I struggled with how to make this one just as interesting as the Orphans and I realized that I can't compare the two, that this characters are different and a lot more light hearted, and who have had a much more stable environment to grow up in.

These kids are in a different setting and haven't yet realized that the world is a dark disgusting cesspool. A few of our cast are aware, not not everyone yet. They will be, but first they have to pass their exam!

I hope you enjoyed the first chapter of the Transfer Exam! I'd love to hear your thoughts!

U.A.'s bringing out the big guns now in their exam, holy moly! I wish this kiddos luck in getting to the next round! XD

Also if I have a character of yours and I haven't heard from you, well they may wind up replaced. I want to know how I'm doing on your character(s) and feedback is important, it matters. It helps with keeping motivated and just generally on the right track. For those that have given feedback I greatly appreciate it and I hope you all have enjoyed everything so far!

That being said, if you're new to reading my stories! I hope you've enjoyed them so far! To everyone who's still reading thanks for your continued support!

If you're interested in submitting a character, send me a pm here or on discord and I'll send you the character sheet.

Once again thanks for reading!
