The ship sailed through the cavern, which was surprisingly large enough to fit it. Bits of broken wood, dead fish, abandoned ships and other flotsam flooded the water like vegetable and meat chunks in an unappetizing Campbell's soup. As it got deeper and considerably darkened, Elouise began placing lanterns all around the ship.
"This place gives me the willies…" Elliot shivered. "It's gonna be on my list for sure…"
"Oh no, are you seriously making a new list??" Sedgewick asked.
"Y-yeah…" Elliot replied. "B-but it's only g-gonna be for this place..."
"Hey, uh, you guys may wanna see this..." Sedgewick spoke, sounding relatively enamored. The other two vegetables followed, and gasped.
Three vegetable mermaids appeared before the eyes of the crew. They bore great resemblance to their actual girlfriends/wife in the modern day, strangely enough, except they had seashell bras and long, wavy hair. Mer-Bernadette had a shimmery blue tail, Mer-Ellen had a green tail, and Mer-Caroline had a pink tail. Elliot's fear immediately disappeared with a sigh.
"Wow…uh…hey…" Elliot leaned back on the side of the ship, attempting to be smooth with the mermaids. "How's it goin'?"
But the mer-vegetables paid no attention to that, and began singing harmoniously.
"Wow..." George gasped. "They sound gorgeous."
"Yeah...like...Destiny's Child..." Sedgewick gasped as well.
"Oh no…" Elouise gasped. "SEDGEWICK! ELLIOT! GEORGE! DON'T listen to them!"
"Why not? They sound pretty goooodddd…" Elliot moaned, now greatly under a trance.
Elouise panicked as the mermaid that resembled Bernadette got closer to Elliot. He could see it as a beautiful woman, but only she saw its true form...it's hideous, true form. This mermaid….wasn't really a mermaid at all, but a shape shifting sea monster!
"How's about you and me share a little kiss...sweetie cakes?" Elliot asked, clearly very, very love-stricken by the awe-inspiring beauty of the mermaid.
For a brief second, just as Elliot kissed mer-Bernadette, his mind went back to reality and he saw the absolutely horriflying monster before him. He quickly removed his lips from the sea monster's disgusting, slimy lips.
"AAAAAAAAUGH!" Elliot exclaimed, now seeing the mermaid's true form. He was quickly placed into a trance yet again.
"ELLIOT!" Elouise exclaimed, quickly coming to the cucumber's aid, until a tentacle rose from the water's edge and shoved the young woman aside. "WILLORY, HELP!" She called, despite the fact the asparagus butler was currently slumbering on a hammock below deck.
But it was too late. The sirens had already pulled Elliot and George into the water, and were quickly bringing in Sedgewick. It seemed all was truly lost for our heroes, indeed. It was lost, until…
("Mr Telephone Man" instrumental plays)
"MIS-TER TELEPHONE MAN,
THERE'S SOMETHIN' WRONG WITH MY LI-INE,
WHEN I DIAL MY ELLEN'S NUMBER,
I GET A CLI-ICK EV-RY TIME!" A recording of Sedgewick's voice sang, albeit greatly off-key, emanating from his back pocket. "Please call me back Ellen!"
Sedgewick's cellphone started ringing with a message from Ellen (strange how it could get reception all the way in the 17th Century). The sea creatures heard the ringtone within a second and began to back away, screeching in pain.
"My word, whatever this strange contraption is, it appears the creatures are repulsed by its tune!" Elouise deduced.
The preteen rhubarb bought the cellphone closer to the sirens, the creatures now screeching even more and writhing about in pain.
"When I dial 611 to get a service
She said, "Hello, may I help you please?"
I told her, Something must be wrong with my phone
'Cause my baby wouldn't hang up on me"
"--AAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGG!!" One of the sirens exclaimed at the horrible singing.
Eventually the sirens fled the cove, leaving Sedgewick, Elliot, and George. Elouise helped them back onto the ship one at a time, the three were a little dazed from being hypnotized.
"W-what happened?" Elliot asked. "I saw Bernadette and she looked more hot than usual, then I blinked my eyes like once and she turned ugly!"
"You three were tricked by sirens," Elouise explained. "They take the form of your loved one and try to kill you that way. Thankfully that strange music box belonging to Sedgewick broke their transe on you."
"My what?" Sedgewick asked.
"But why didn't you see a vision of your loved one?" George asked.
"I guess women aren't affected by mermaid songs." Elouise replied.
Soon, the voyage went on through the mermaid cove. Sedgewick frantically searched his pockets.
"Seriously you guys, where's my phone?" He asked. "Ellen could've called!"
