Trigger Warning!
I was only able to sleep for about a few hours before waking up.
Once I was fully awake, I checked the time on my watch, before I silently pulled out my phone, placing it on airplane mode before checking the info that Fury provided to me earlier.
"Don't know why he didn't just tell me about this…" I muttered, shaking my head in disapproval as I slid my finger across the screen.
Of course, this mission was far more dangerous than Fury had let on, asshole. Maybe Bucky coming here with me was a good thing.
At least then, my chances of survival would be a double digit.
As time passed, I grew more and more anxious.
What the hell had Fury been thinking to send me here alone, no less.
I needed to figure out how I was going to proceed first. This situation is connected with Hydra, and needed to be stopped before they got everyone killed.
Just as I thought of a possibility, the plane began to descend, rocking the cabin slightly as it touched the ground a few moments later.
As everyone slowly made their way out, I sat there, taking a moment to myself before reaching overhead compartment to grab my bag, before following everyone else out.
I dropped my purse in my duffle and secured the strap closer to my body before making my way towards the exit.
I ignored all the cluttering people around the airport, and quickly hailed down a taxi, giving him my next destination.
The driver nodded as he quickly drove me to the destination. I was more than happy at his erratic driving, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
As he turned onto the street where the place was located, I noticed him looking at me curiously.
"Itak, ty puteshestvuyesh' odin?" He asked as he began to slow down. (So, are you traveling alone?)
"Net, moy zhenikh uzhe zdes'. On zhdet menya naverkhu." I replied amused. (No, my fiance is already here. He's waiting for me upstairs.)
"Schastlivchik. Togda bezopasnykh puteshestviy." He said, giving me a small smile. (Lucky man. Safe travels then.)
"Spasibo." I replied as I got out. (Thank you.)
I handed him the correct amount of money, before getting out of the taxi and slowly making my way towards the gate.
I smiled as I noticed the only way to go in was to put in a series of codes.
I quickly put them in before pushing the gate and slamming it behind myself.
The paper Maria had given me earlier informed me the apartment was located on the third floor of the building and the key was located in the plant near the door to the left.
I quickly climbed the three flights of stairs before finding the key, accurately found within the plant on the left.
I sighed, once I got in, I locked the deadbolt, and chained the door before heading into the bedroom.
Sighing in content as I quickly got out of my clothes before heading into the bathroom to wash off the grim and travel of the day.
I walked into the bathroom, and took one look at myself in the mirror before the tears began as my mind traveled to all the events that had happened so far.
It had been almost a week since Fury asked me to go on this mission.
Bucky and Sharon agreed to help me create this makeshift drama so I could make my escape while I was home alone.
What we didn't realize was how emotionally draining this situation would be, and that Bucky would have to come with me since he knew a lot about Hydra and the super soldier serum.
Initially I was against them hurting Steve like that, but I knew if my brother found out the truth of why I needed to leave.
Nat promised me she would try to get closer to Steve and talk to him after Bucky and I left. Sharon agreed to it because she wasn't going to be around much either.
No one besides Bucky, and a handful of other people know why I am involved and I hoped to keep the reason hidden as long as possible.
I knew Bucky was right that I should just let everyone know what happened all those years ago but fear held me back.
Even though I knew Clint wouldn't stop loving me. I hated what happened in order to get out of there, and Bucky did too.
That was the only reason why we both agreed to do this was because we were fighting to end Hydra for good.
Coming here meant a lot of things for all of us. We wouldn't be able to contact anyone for over a year and that made us all nervous.
With that thought in mind, I showered and quickly got out, changing into a pair of jeans, and a simple white t-shirt, a wool lined sweater before putting my shoes back on and heading out to get some food.
There were only a few things that were still open, and I headed there to get some groceries.
I bought the basic necessities to last for a week, before stopping at one of the street vendors to buy some Cheburek, some Shawarma before heading back to the place.
It was a short, crisp walk back. I enjoyed it even if the air was a bit chilly.
When I arrived back to the apartment complex, I quickly made my way in, and back into the apartment to find Bucky sitting there annoyed.
"Fuck..." I muttered as I walked in and slammed the food onto the counter.
"I thought I told you to wait for me at the airport…" He said as he stood to help me put things away.
"That wasn't going to happen. So, get over it." I replied as I slid a few things into the refrigerator.
"I wish you would listen to me." He muttered, rolling his eyes.
"I wish you didn't have to be here. But here we are." I retorted, sighing as I closed the door and turned to look at him.
"Doll, you already know that there is no other way to do this. We both need to be here." He replied, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Yes, I know. We got lucky that T'Challa helped us get out of their control, but all those people that — didn't… I'm just so overwhelmed. Who the hell would want to be like us?" I asked, in disbelief.
"I disagree. We're lucky that Shuri and T'Challa liked you when they met you. Otherwise we would have still been in trouble." Bucky muttered, before shaking his head. "Now, what's wrong, doll? I know you. Something is bothering you." He said.
Crap. How did he know?
"It's nothing…" I mutter, turning away, only for him to grab my arm and pull me towards him.
"Don't lie to me, Arie. Don't try to hide from me." He said, forcing me to look into his eyes.
"It's just…what if this doesn't work? What if we can't be free of Hydra?" I asked, tearing up.
He quickly pulled me into a hug, kissing the top of my head. "It will, doll. You just have to believe that it will work. Do you have the information Fury said he would provide?" He asked, as he placed his forefinger under my chin before slowly lifting it to make me look into his bright blue eyes.
I sighed trying to look away only for him to lower his lips to mine. He kissed me fervently before pulling away, touching his forehead to mine. "What was that for?" I asked, smiling a little at his face.
"I've been waiting to do that all week. God I've missed you so much." He groaned, closing his eyes.
"I missed you too." I muttered back, as I wrapped my arms around his neck.
"Also, your brother almost shot me with an arrow in the training earlier today." He complained.
I laughed at him before shaking my head. "He did ssy he was going to do that…" I sighed, as I held up the small USB drive, and phone to him. "Did you bring a computer? Otherwise we're screwed. In my rush to leave, I forgot my laptop in my room." I replied.
"What's in the phone?" He asked, as he took the USB and make his way towards the living room.
"More files. Mainly on the project we brought down in Munich and Brazil." I replied as I opened the files and showed them to him.
"Georgi Luchkov." He said, raising a brow at me.
"General around here. Armed forces… Natasha dealt with him a few years ago. Old bastard survived the beating though…" I muttered, shaking my head in disgust.
"Who else is he working with?" He asked.
"Artem Volkov." I replied, pulling up his picture.
His eyes narrowed, "You mean…" he began looking up from his laptop.
"That they're trying to recreate what Red Skull began in the World War?" I asked, raising a brow at him.
"Fuck…" he muttered, rubbing his hand over his face.
"Fuck is right. So, Fury wants us to stop them. By any means necessary." I added.
"What about the person creating the serum…? Who is it?" He asked, concerned.
"Dr. Wilfred Nagel… He's hiding somewhere in Belarus…" I muttered, frowning as he went through the files.
Bucky shook his head muttering in Russian, eyes wide, before looking back at me. "I need you to be calm about what I am about to tell you…" he said, motioning for me to sit next to him.
I stared at him, blankly before slowly making my way towards him.
"What did you find?" I asked, carefully, as my heart began to beat erratically.
"I—" he began only to frown, and shake his head. "We—"
"Spit it out, James." I said, frustrated.
"They—erm— they were trying to find a way to breed us." He finally said, running his forehead.
"They— what…?!" I spit out, shooting out of my seat.
Oh dear God, it all made sense now. The pain, the memories, the confusing things I thought happened. It was real. All if it.
His titanium arm quickly wrapped around my waist and pulled me back to the couch, practically onto his lap.
"Let. Me. Go. James." I growled.
"No, look. Let me finish. Once I'm done, I'll even go with you if you want to kill them." He promised.
"You've got three minutes." I whispered trying to reign in my anger.
He sighed, before looking back at the screen. "They were trying to breed us. Specifically me and you. They were never successful though. They were, however, successful in recreating the super soldier serum. It's volatile though, and ends up killing the host…" he said, looking at me worried.
"Is this the same serum I was injected with, James?" I asked, softly.
Was I going to die?
"No. The one you got was the last vile of the serum Arnim Zola recreated. They hoped to begin creating a superhuman race to rule the world. Starting with us." He explained, as I moved again.
Those sons of bitches! I'll kill them!
"Can I kill them now?" I growled straining against his hold.
"Not yet." He muttered, as he changed the information on the screen.
"One minute, James." I growled.
"Alright. Cool your jets…" he muttered. "The last person who received the serum was Adaline Ivanov. She died four days ago." He replied.
Adaline? No, why would they do that to a fourteen year old child? Those monsters!
"I'm going to kill them all, slowly and painfully." I ground out, throwing him off of me.
He flew back hitting the wall, before rolling onto his feet. "Doll, you don't want to do this…" He warned, moving to block the door.
"No, I totally do. So, move, before I make you." I ground out, flexing my shoulders.
"Marie, please, think this through, we can't fuck this up if we want to bring down Hydra… this needs to be done right so no one else gets hurt. I know you're angry, sweetheart, but doing this isn't going to help if they eacape." He calmly said, moving closer to me.
I shook my head, feebly as I felt tears brim over. "You don't understand. I remember it. All of it." I softly said, wiping away my tears
"Oh doll, I'm so fucking sorry…" He said, rushing towards me and pulling me into a tight hug.
I shook my head, before dropping it onto his chest.
"It hurts, Bucky. I remember how they held me down as they fucking injected that shit into my body. All the screaming. I remember them injecting me with a numbing agent into my arm so they could fucking trying to implant that thing into me. Here's a fucking clue. It didn't, I miscarried after two weeks, but I didn't know what was happening at the time… You don't fucking know how much pain I went through…. You helped me break out… You got me out of there, but those few years that I was there… It was total hell…" I whispered.
I could feel him stiffen slight as he held me, taking slow breaths as he held me.
"Arie, I swear on all holy that I will do everything I can possibly do to make them pay. We need to wipe that scum off the Earth starting with that scientist…" he said, strained.
I nodded in response, before stepping away.
"Don't ever think you can't talk to me about anything. I love you, and there isn't anything in the world I wouldn't do for you, doll." He said, looking at me in the eye, before leaning down to kiss me.
"Prove it to me." I said, giving him a salacious smile.
"Oh gladly, doll." He replied, before throwing me over his shoulder and making his way towards the room, as I squealed in response.
