We had flown on one of the bison to go and take out the weapon before Kuvira could reach us, only to find that she'd already crossed over the border and was mere hours away from Republic City. More than that, she'd attached the damn canon to a giant mecha-suit which looked like pretty much the end of life as we knew it. It was a monstrosity, and it actually made me feel a little terrified. Okay, a lot terrified, but Mako had put his arm around me and held me for a while until I'd stopped shaking, assuring me that we'd figure something out.

Turning back after being fired at, we returned to the temple where we landed, a whole bunch of people running towards us, knowing something was up. Tenzin was there with Pema, along with Raiko, Su, Lin, and the twins Wing and Wei. "Kanna, Korra, are you all right? Why are you back so soon?" Tenzin worried, looking us both over as we made our way over to him.

"It's Kuvira. Our intel was wrong. She must've known Zhu Li had the information." Nodding my head, I crossed my arms with a worried expression.

"She's already crossed the border into Republic City territory, and she's got her entire army with her. It'll only be a few hours until they get here." All the colour in Raiko's face disappeared, staring at me as I reported what we'd seen, everyone wearing the same look of fear and alarm.

"No, they can't be, we're not ready."

"And that spirit weapon of hers is attached to a giant mecha-suit. It's over twenty-five stories tall!" Their expressions dropped further. For a moment everyone just digested the information until Raiko cleared his throat and turned around to look at Lin.

"Get General Iroh on the line and tell him the attack is happening today. We need to lock down this city." He ordered so Lin hurried to follow her instructions as Tenzin turned to Pema, asking her to go into the city and help Wu evacuate the last of the citizens and to get them to safety.

"What should we do?" Bolin asked as Fang came over to me, realising that I was back. He rubbed himself along my body before he sat down, communicating with me through quiet feelings and impressions as I also silently told him what we'd seen. It wasn't looking good for us.

"Let's go to my factory. Maybe we can get a few of those hummingbird suits up and running." Asami suggested and Su announced that she was going with them, Wing and Wei also choosing to go too.

"I'll head to the front lines and help General Iroh."

"Me too. Fang can take us there. It'll be faster than flying." I said, patting my wolf-fox friend as he dipped his head in a nod. "Be careful guys." Giving everyone one last hug, I then swung up onto Fang's back as he growled and pulled himself around, starting to take off as I held out my hand to Korra. She grabbed on and let me swing her up behind her, the two of us racing towards the edge of the island before Fang leaped off the edge, making Korra yell.

"Kanna!"

"Hold on!" I gave a whoop, lifting my hands up into the air as Korra grabbed onto my waist and we fell down towards the ocean, where Fang landed lightly on the water's surface, absorbing the impact before he then tore forwards and I gripped onto his neck to keep us both from being thrown off from the force of his momentum. "Isn't this great!?"

"It's awesome! We should go racing with Naga sometime!" Korra yelled over the wind and I laughed before we both focused on getting to Iroh and the United Nations army where they were being set up at the frontlines. Like I said, Fang got us there in no time, and although we startled a lot of soldiers, he pulled up outside General Iroh's tent, coming to a halt though he skid a fair way before Korra and I were able to jump down, Iroh coming to meet us.

"Avatar Korra, Kanna. What brings you here?"

"We're here to help. You got the message about Kuvira?" Korra asked and Iroh affirmed that he'd received Lin's radio.

"It's been three years. It's good to see you both, though the situation could be more favourable." Iroh said to us both, offering a tame smile as Fang walked over and started sniffing him, pushing his nose right into Iroh's hair and face. He frowned slightly, looking across at Fang whilst remaining stoically upright as I grimaced slightly.

"Uh…that's Fang, my spirit companion. Um Fang? Can you please get your nose out of General Iroh's ear?" I requested as Korra sniggered beside me so I elbowed her in the gut to shut her up as Fang looked at me blankly, like he didn't get what was the matter.

"It's alright. I'm sure he's…friendly." Iroh excused, using the cuff of his sleeve to wipe his ear and face clean. "All preparations have been made, Avatar Korra. We're ready to face Kuvira's army and the weapon we've been informed about."

"I hope you're right, because that weapon is coming to us on a giant mecha-suit that's about as tall as the apartment buildings in the city." Korra said with a sigh as she held her glider staff a little tighter in her hand. I came to stand by her side, Fang lying down to rest for a while though as I moved over to Korra, I felt Iroh reach out and touch my arm lightly, wanting to draw my attention towards him.

"Kanna, I never received the opportunity to thank you." He said to me, making me frown up at his handsome and well groomed face.

"Thank me? What for?"

"For saving my mother and my grandfather. They told me what you did two years ago. I haven't forgotten it, so I express my gratitude to you now. My grandfather is greatly important to me, and it is because of you that he still lives." Iroh then took my hand, gently holding my fingers and lifted them towards his lips where he placed a light kiss to the back of my hand, with all the princely charm and sincerity that would make any girl's heart flutter. "Thank you, Kanna."

"Oh…um…" For a moment I was at a loss for words, uncertain how to answer as I just stared at the hand Iroh was still holding before I bashfully cleared my throat and inwardly begged for my face to stop flushing as Korra just gaped at us. "It…it wasn't anything grand, I'm a healer so I just did my duty and I like your grandfather, I've known him since I was young and I used to call him uncle, so…um, I like your mother too, she was very kind and sweet to me, stern though, a little scary when she got mad at somebody, but uh…you're welcome?" I finally finished, babbling away like an idiot and Iroh smiled at me, as if endeared by my moronic ramblings.

"Someday, I hope to repay the favour."

"I really hope not, because that kind of favour getting repaid means someone ends up getting hurt and that's just a shame…" Smiling awkwardly, I looked over at Fang who merely snorted as if he was also finding this situation hilarious, but chose not to help me. Traitor.

"All the same, you have my thanks." Iroh told me again as he still held onto my hand until he then let it go, giving my fingers a light squeeze before he tilted his head slightly, looking at my face carefully. "You seem much better than the last time I saw you. More settled within yourself. Have you been able to resolve your disagreement with your family?"

"Yes. Well mostly, I still have to go see my grandmother after all this, but I'm hopeful that everything will be okay. Actually, my family are closer than ever, which makes me happy." I admitted, seemingly forgetting my previous fluster and naturally fell into an easy conversation with Iroh, as if the fact that we were about to face a giant weaponised suit was the last thing on our minds right now.

"I'm certain your grandmother will be glad to see you again, no matter what." Iroh said to me and I couldn't help but feel at ease around him, giving a relaxed smile and a nod of my head before we turned to ready ourselves for the army that was approaching us even as we spoke. We waited for Kuvira to arrive, standing mostly in tense silence until we heard the dull booms of movement, the mecha-suit walking towards us. It caused vibrations under our feet, sending nervous thrills through our body until finally, we saw it emerge from behind the mountain.

Iroh even cursed out of shock, something I never expected to hear from his mouth. After the army had come to a stop across the open plains with Kuvira's weapon also halting, we heard the radio open a line with a brief blur of static before President Raiko spoke. "Kuvira this is President Raiko. I order you to stand down. Turn your army around and leave." With the open channel, Kuvira's reply came with a tone of snide repute.

"You're in no position to give orders."

"Stand down or we will attack."

"I don't think you understand the power I possess. Let me make it clear." Knowing immediately what she was going to do, I flung out my arm and shouted in warning.

"She's gonna fire, everybody brace yourselves!" The giant metal suit lifted its arm where the cannon rotated to face up on the entire length of the arm, focusing towards the city. I naturally gripped onto the table, bracing in preparation for the impact I knew was coming as I put my hand over Korra's and held onto her, Iroh's hand going to my back as we all prepared for the cannon to fire. I was right when I yelled to brace, because when the cannon fired it released such a shockwave of energy that it caused a resulting vibration wave even all the way to our camp, making everything rattle as distant booms were heard and I pressed my eyes closed, not wanting to think about what she'd chosen to target.

Fang snarled darkly, stance lowered as if ready to spring at the army so I yelled for him to stay, not wanting him to do something dangerous and go off on his own. At the second blast wave, Iroh put his arm more securely over me, all three of us ducking down together until it was all over, and Kuvira had successfully demonstrated the power of her weapon. We rushed outside and looked behind us to see tall black plumes of smoke rising from the city, I think from the water. The cannon now aimed down at the army, everyone began to lose their bravery in the face of such untold destruction.

Going back for the radio, Iroh contacted Raiko in order to receive his orders. "Mr President, do I have your order to engage?" Kuvira answered, her voice sounded infuriatingly smug and confident which only pissed me off more as I stood with Fang, holding onto him as I stared up at the weapon.

"You have three seconds or I wipe out your army." Gritting his teeth, Iroh waited for an answer from Raiko, who had only one possible choice. Surrender. "Time's up."

"Stop." Raiko's voice ordered before Kuvira could open fire, and I could hear the resignation in his voice and even felt a little sorry for the guy. "We surrender. Republic City is yours."

"Good. Turn your army and the Avatar over to me and give Baatar your location. He'll present you with our terms." Slamming down the radio's microphone in anger, Korra clenched her fists determinedly.

"I'm not surrendering!" Now how did I know she was going to say that? One thing I did love about Korra, she never gave up without a proper fight, and that's something I learned from her. This isn't over yet, Kuvira was yet to win.

"Get back to the city before she sees you." Iroh instructed to the both of us and we nodded, turning in order to head out of there. "And Korra, find a way to beat that thing." Promising him that she would, Fang let her climb on as he laid down for her, however just as I was about to go too, Iroh spoke whilst addressing me. "Be careful Kanna. Look after yourself."

"I'll be fine, it's you who needs to worry. Kuvira isn't exactly a lover of people who aren't natively earth kingdom citizens. Be wary." I said to him, giving him a smile before making to leave. Before I could even make it a step, his hand reached out to grab mine, making me look down and back towards him in surprise. Iroh looked just as shocked, staring at his own hand like he hadn't even realised what he'd done until it was too late. Softening towards him, I silently took his hand in mine, holding it with a gentle squeeze before I then put my arms around him quickly for an embrace, making him start slightly before he then turned his head into me, arms wrapping around my waist. "Stay safe." I whispered to him before I then let go and ran with a jump, leaping onto Fang's back where this time, Korra took the lead.

Unable to help it, I looked back over my shoulder, wishing there was something we could do right now to help, but as the United Nations army began to recede into the distance, Iroh was already long gone from sight. I hope he'll be okay. "Where do we go? Back to the temple?" Korra asked so I quickly shook off my sense of worry in order to focus.

"No, Baatar will be going there to parlay with Raiko. We should go to Asami's workshop, everyone else will be there and we can figure out what next to do. Whatever happens, we can't let Kuvira catch you."

"Got it, come on Fang, let's see you run!" Howling at the challenge, Fang increased the speed as I leaned forward and took Korra's hand, placing it on his head where Fang connected with her spirit and learned the way to go, making her blink in surprise. "Wow, I didn't know he could do that."

"I know, Fang's amazing." I beamed, ruffling his fur before holding onto Korra again. "We once ran around the entire world in a day. He's that fast."

"No way!" Korra breathed in awe, amazed at Fang's speed and abilities before saying that once this was over, she wanted to race around the world too so I laughed and promised her we'd do just that, so long as we all got out of this thing alive and in one piece.
