Once we got to the office, I set about healing anybody who needed medical attention, going through two at a time with water in the palm of both hands and seeing to any injuries. Thankfully, nothing was fatal or severe, guess our luck hadn't run out yet. Varrick had tried a trick to try and shut down the giant and the other mecha-suits, but only had success with the smaller ones. "Varrick, how come your electro-thingy shut down the small mecha-suits but not the big one?" Bolin complained as I worked on Baatar, who had received a rather nasty bump on the head, though it seemed to have knocked some sense into him.

"Because it's powered with spirit vine energy. I'm sorry. I wish I could help you, but it's unstoppable." He said to us all, making us all feel like we were done for until an unexpected figure showed up with Lin. Guess today was full of surprises, too.

"It's not." It was Asami's dad, Hiroshi.

"I got him out of jail to help. I figured we need all the geniuses we can get our hands on right now. If the prison's still standing after all this is over, we can throw him back in." Lin explained simply, making me chuckle to myself as I continued healing Baatar. Guess Lin had turned out to be a real rule breaker, breaking people out of prison.

"I know what you all must think of me, but I love Republic City, and I would do anything to save her." Hiroshi told us all honestly as I pulled the water back into my water pouch then put my hand on Baatar's shoulder to inform him that he was done quietly. He nodded his head but didn't look up, still seemingly overcome with hurt and betrayal since Kuvira fired his own weapon at him.

"You think you know how to defeat this thing?"

"You must act like an infection, break the skin and attack the vital organs. Disconnect the heart and the brain and this beast cannot live." Hiroshi informed us all. The description was a little sinister, but the guy made a good point.

"But how are we supposed to get inside?"

"Future Industries has plasma says for cutting platinum. If we had one on the mecha-suit…" He started, but Asami cut across him, already seeing a problem.

"But the saws are way too big. We'd never get the suits off the ground."

"I think I can add an electrical element to the welding torch on your suit and convert it into a plasma saw. Then we'll just have to land on the giant and cut open a hole big enough for someone to get in."

"Like a metal mosquito." Asami smiled to her father as Varrick flung out his arms, not entirely a huge fan of the idea.

"You know what happens to mosquitoes that land on me? I squash 'em!"

"We'll have to attack in a swarm to try to keep you guys safe in the hummingbird suits. It looks like they're our only hope." Korra said, looking to the rest of us where we all nodded. I get the feeling I'm going to need a lot more water if I'm going to be any help. The geniuses all got to work immediately whilst we watched out for Kuvira, knowing it probably wouldn't take her long to figure out where we all were. We got longer than we thought, but still not enough time, as when one of the air benders warned us that Kuvira was coming, Asami and the others still weren't finished. "How long will it take to get the plasma saws ready?" Korra asked and Asami paused to answer her that they needed just a few more minutes. "Get out there as soon as you can."

"If you do manage to get inside, find the engine room. There are two emergency levers. If you switch them off at the same time, you'll cut the power." Baatar informed us all as we prepared to get out there and go for round two.

"Thanks. We may not be able to beat that thing, but we can slow it down. Let's go!" I hope Fang's okay, I haven't heard from him so I guess he must be busy dealing with the ground troops whilst we faced the giant. Honestly, I think I'd rather face an army rather than this thing. At least an army were actually beatable, this thing didn't seem to have any weak points, and neither had we successful at slowing it down so far.

Still, we went to go face it anyway. Korra, me, Mako, Bolin, Lin, Su, Wing and Wei all standing together, facing down the giant as it stopped before us. We all moved forwards together, Korra air bending herself up into the air to draw Kuvira's attention so that when the cannon fired, it missed us running towards the giant. "Bolin, get me a boost!" I called to him, running on ahead where Bolin then bent the earth under my feet as I braced myself, feeling it rumble before I was then propelled into the air.

I landed on the giant's foot, where I held out my hands and tried to feel for any water on the inside, wanting to see if I could maybe mess with the cooling system from out here. Although I could feel the water, I couldn't make it burst through the metal hide, it was too thick, but I could increase the pressure. Bending with absolute focus, I had to maintain balance whilst the giant was walking, each step making a jarring sensation shoot through me until all at once, my arms swept outwards whilst turning my hands in, focusing on the closest source of water within the suit.

Steam suddenly began to pour outwards from the knee joint of the leg I was standing on, feeling the water gush as I caused a little chaos, but there wasn't much more I could do from out here. The leg lifted, bending at the knee and this time when it made to step, it stomped down with increased force as a means to shake me off. "Whoa!" I jumped for it, throwing myself off the giant and hit the ground with a roll. It hurt like hell but I had to get up and move because I could see a building starting to fall down from above, so I guessed that the earth benders were behind that and I didn't want to become collateral damage.

I covered my head when the building fell, dust billowing outwards with a hiss until it settled and I continued moving towards where I could see Korra, who was with Bolin and the twins. When I reached her we naturally reached out for one another, grasping one another by the arm as I then looked back to see the giant pinned under the rubble, but then it started to get back up again as Su and Lin swung down to join us. Really? "Aw come on! Who gets up after having an entire building dropped on them?!" I was so looking forward to this day being over.

We all scattered when the cannon fired again, me and Korra sticking together and ducking down as the debris followed the blast. "How're you doing?" Korra asked me once the noise had settled and we could try to stand up without our legs turning to jelly.

"Oh you know, fighting evil dictators, dodging spirit cannon blasts, basically getting our butts kicked, the usual." I said as another shot fired, this time knocking Wei and Wing out of the air but Lin was quick to catch them, Su following suit and bending an earth dome over them to protect them from the falling rubble. It was then that we started to hear humming, the low undertones of vibrations in the air until we looked and saw two humming bird suits coming towards us, flying overhead and heading straight for the giant. "Guess Asami got things working."

"Hopefully they can cut through the armour and we can get inside before they get squashed." Korra sounded worried, watching the suits closely and I arched a curious eyebrow at her. The giant started swatting at the flying suits, each time they landed made them become a target, even for the impossible place on the back where normal people can't reach. "Come on, help me with the river." Korra said, waving me over so I followed her to the water where together, we started to bend the water together in identical movements before shooting it forwards with added force, the wave then freezing it so that the arm holding the cannon was stuck pointing upwards, forcing it to fire at open air.

From where I was standing, I saw one of the suits land on the thigh where there was an open spot in the ice, helping Korra bend more ice to pin the giant in place and keep it from firing the cannon or moving its arms to swat the suit, allowing whoever was inside time to cut through with the lasers. The giant began to tremble, fighting to break the ice and I saw cracks beginning to appear as it struggled to free its arm. "They need to get out of there." I realised, seeing that it wouldn't be long before the giant broke free of the ice, but still the bird didn't move.

The giant finally broke free of the ice, wrenching its shoulder and freeing its arm. I saw something explode out of the back of the hummingbird suit, and it looked distinctly like Asami, mening her dad was still in there, cutting through. "No!" Crying out in alarm, I began to bend more of the river, pulling the water up in a huge rush before it sloshed around the giant's feet before shooting upwards with powerful ice spikes, slamming against the hand who pushed through as it made to swat the bird but I held it, releasing the strain with a yell as I continued to pile more ice and water upwards, slowing the hand down until finally, it stopped, and Hiroshi was safe.

There wasn't a lot of room for him to get out, but somehow he managed to fly the bird out of there, leaving a hole in the skeleton as I continued bending the water, remaking the ice prison whilst keeping the opening free so that people could get in. Everyone was behind me as I continued to bend, grunting and struggling but continuing with everything I had as I gradually froze Kuvira's giant metal suit once more. "Well? What are you waiting for an invitation? Move!" I yelled, barking snappily at my friends so that they'd get going. "I can't hold it forever!"

"Thanks Kanna, get out of here once we're inside." Korra yelled to me, touching my shoulder as my entire body strained as I continued to hold the giant down even as it fought, breaking free with one of its arms so I swept my hand upwards to make more ice, everybody touching my shoulder as they rushed passed.

"Great job Kanna, keep it up!" Bolin cheered to me, giving me a thumbs up as he jogged backwards.

"You're doing great kid." Lin said to me as she passed, leaving Su and Mako.

"We'll be fast, don't give up!" Su encouraged and I bit down on my teeth as I pulled back my lips, beginning to sweat as I struggled to breathe.

"Agh!" I was practically draining the river with all the water I was using, but I couldn't stop. I had to hold the giant in place so that everybody could get inside without getting blasted or swatted.

"We'll be back soon." Mako lingered for a second longer, resting his hand on his shoulder so I managed to spare him a glance, my fierce blue eyes gleaming like ice.

"MOVE!" Taking the hint, Mako rushed to catch up, leaving me to continue holding the giant from the outside as they all made their way in. My body had reached breaking point, practically snapping on the inside as I continued to hold it, seeing everyone make their way in. Korra air bended, Mako used fire bending whilst Su and Lin used their cables, the latter carrying Bolin to get everybody onto the leg where the opening had been cut. The moment they were inside, I let go. It took mere seconds for the giant to break free and start smashing off the ice over its body and I turned, intending to run.

My legs gave out before I could make it anywhere, grunting as I hit the floor and couldn't even feel most of my body it was so numb. Behind me, the giant started to go crazy, the guys messing things up in there but I was still in the line of fire, and as an arm swung out and knocked through a buildings, the rubble of stone and glass came tumbling down towards me. "Aw crap. FANG!" Screaming as loudly as I could as I started to crawl, dragging my unresponsive lower body with my arms, I braced for a very ugly and probably very painful death until suddenly, something grabbed me.

Jaws clamped down around my middle and picked me up, racing out of range of the rubble before we came to a halt and I could twist myself around and grin at Fang. "You are the greatest friend anyone could ever ask for Fang, I love you!" I praised, grabbing hold of him and hugging him as he gently set me back down on the ground. I still couldn't feel my legs, but I could at least move them now, enough to stand with Fang's help and throw a leg over his back where he stood back up, both of us looking at the machine.

The arm fell down dead, so I guessed they'd at least taken out the cannon, but then we both saw purple light beginning to glow from within its chest, signalling something very bad was about to happen so I leaned down to Fang. "Let's move, hurry boy!" Growling in agreement, Fang swung himself around and just as the giant exploded, he turned down an alleyway and bucked so that I was thrown off his back and swung around his neck, letting him shield me from the resulting blast as air swept through us like a windstorm. I hid my face in his fur, holding onto him tightly as he tucked his chin over my back, sheltering together.

It seemed like it went on four hours, crashes and explosions ricocheting everywhere as everything trembled with such force it seemed to threaten to rip the world in half. Even when everything had stopped moving we stayed together, hunkered down for fear of there being a second wave until slowly, we began to release one another. I looked back out the alleyway and Fang turned his head, also looking. "Do you think it's safe?" He snorted in answer with a huff, doubting it entirely. "We should probably go see." Again, neither of us moved. "Let's go check it out." Finally finding the will to go back out there, Fang helped me climb back up before he tentatively stepped out, sniffing the air.

There was still a lot of dust everywhere, but the giant was completely destroyed, which was something. It had been seemingly ripped in half by the blast, the top part lying not too far away whilst the legs had vanished elsewhere. I couldn't see any sigh of the arm that had held the cannon, but I was more worried right now about my friends. "Fang, help me find everyone. Can you find who's nearest and who's hurt?" I asked him, rubbing his neck so he quickly moved forwards, going towards the upper part of the metal giant before he then started scratching at a hatch.

Jumping down off of him, now fully in control of my legs once more, I twisted it open and pulled it up, looking down to see Mako and Bolin together but unconscious. "Guys!" Alarmed and concerned for their wellbeing, I dropped down carefully, grabbing onto a broken ladder rung to swing down and avoid landing on them.

I checked them both for vital signs and quickly made an assessment with healing water. Bolin was fine, just knocked out, but Mako had a severe burn on his arm that would scar for the rest of his life if it wasn't treated now. So, with the soft glow of my healing water and Fang sticking his head in through the hatch, I healed Mako's arm and the light disturbed them, rousing them from their unconsciousness until I heard them both groan and shift. "K-Kanna?" Relieved to see them both okay, they blinked in a daze, looking at me.

"You guys are just so reckless." I scolded them lightly, sniffing and quickly rubbing away the tears as I continued to heal Mako's arm. "But you're going to be okay. Just lie still for a while, don't try moving too soon."

"Kanna…thank you." Mako said to me weakly, his hair completely ruffled from the smooth and neat slicked back style it was before.

"You're welcome." Bolin coughed and started to try and move so I reached out and made him lay flat for a while, giving him some water to drink before I looked over Mako's arm. It was already looking a lot better, and with a few more treatments, the skin should heal completely without any scarring. Just as I was about to suggest we got out of there, I heard this distant humming that I seemed to recognise, pausing and looking up at the hatch. "You hear that?" The guys both sat up slightly, listening as well as Fang sniffed at the air then growled. "Fang what is it?" Suddenly he leaped down through the hatch, changing sizes so that he'd fit and used his tail to drag the hatch down after him, spinning the wheel shut just as we felt a strong quaking all around us.

"What's happening?!" Bolin cried out, everything starting to tremble as I suddenly recognised the thrumming sound as the sound of the cannon firing and I felt an overwhelming build up of spiritual which surpassed all other cannon fires at least tenfold.

"Hold on guys!" I leaped forwards in order to cover both their heads, intending to shield them but then Fang stood over us, ducking his head down to protect all three of us as the upper body shifted, the broken parts breaking more until all at once, the outside seemed to explode with sound and movement. Even inside we could see the powerful eruption of blinding light and the crippling force of the blast as it swept outwards, consuming us as we depended on the shell of the giant to protect us. Mako had grabbed my head to pull me down, he and Bolin shielding me instead whilst I was still trying to cover them until we became a mass of tangled limbs all clutching onto one another until it passed.

For a while we just lay there, waiting until the aftershock had settled before I twisted and looked up, no longer feeling the overwhelming spiritual energy as before but still felt something going on up there. "Is it over yet?" Bolin asked, Mako grunting as Bolin accidentally elbowed him in the chest trying to get up.

"Only one way to find out." I reasoned, touching Fang's snout and rubbing my head against his in thanks before he pushed his muzzled underneath me and gave me a boost up to open the hatch, flinging it open so that the natural light could flow in before I climbed out and looked around. "Oh my…you better get up here and see this." I called back down to them, staring at the tall pillar of light which was shooting up into the sky.

"What is that?" Mako asked as I moved down, Bolin helping his brother up as they both stared with me.

"It's a portal. It's another spirit portal. The cannon must have exploded. I can't believe it." Barely able to wrap my head around it, I suddenly sucked in a gasp of fear. "Korra!" Quickly grabbing hold of Bolin and Mako I helped pull them out, Fang following and jumping down onto a lower standing point so that I could slide Mako down onto his back, Bolin following to sit behind him as I then dropped down in front of Mako, taking a grip as I urged Fang to hurry. Bolin yelped as Fang suddenly started running, grabbing onto his brother who in turn held onto my waist, hugging me tightly as Fang brought us to the portal.

Korra had to be here somewhere, I just have to find her. Everybody was making their way to the portal, including Kuvira's forces who were looking for their leader. We all shouted for her, but a search of the area yielded nothing. "Can you find anything Fang? A scent?" He asked as he sniffed around but shook his head. The spirit blast had wiped out everything, Korra had just…vanished. For a moment I just felt lost, uncertain of what to do until slowly, I began to look at the portal with suspicion. Then, a crazy idea jumped into my head. "Fang!"

He yipped then howled as I swung myself up and together, he charged straight for the portal as my uncle suddenly saw what I was doing. "Kanna no! It's not safe, we don't know what's-!" But I didn't care. If Korra was on the other side, then I was going to find her. Besides, I had Fang with me, my spirit companion. What did I have to be afraid of? Pushing his nose forwards, Fang bunched up the muscles in his hind legs then sprung upwards, clearing the slope up to the portal then dove right in as I held onto him and felt a rush of spiritual energy wash over me until suddenly, I was in the Spirit World.

Immediately I saw Korra together with Kuvira, and all at once I felt a wave of gratitude and relief to see that she was safe and alive. "Korra!" Crying out to her, I leaped from Fang's back as he pulled up and turned, allowing me to crash against Korra who caught me expertly and together we hugged, spinning me around with the momentum as I finally relaxed. Once we parted, I smiled to her and brushed at her hair, smoothing it from where it had been ruffled from her fight and the blast before I then looked back at Kuvira. "So…did you win?"

"I think we've agreed to call a truce." Korra said to me, her hand on my back as I eyed Kuvira with suspicion and no small amount of disdain which made her look away, but I saw her clutching her side and could sense she was in a great amount of pain, so with a sigh I walked over and knelt down, pulling water from my water pouch in order to heal her.

"Here, don't move for a second." Kuvira watched me in surprise as I healed her ribs, wincing momentarily before the soothing effect took over, allowing her to breathe a little more freely.

"Why are you doing this? Why are you helping me when I'm your enemy? I've done nothing but try to kill you, your friends and destroy your city." She asked me so I looked up to meet her eyes, still healing her as I allowed all my personal feelings to float away, looking at her with unbiased and unprejudiced blankness.

"Because I am a healer, and no matter who is in front of me, if they are injured or in pain, then it is my duty to heal them. Even if they're my enemy." I told her before pausing, glancing away for a moment before I looked back at her, this time with a firm resolution. "Especially if they're my enemy." Blinking at me and taken aback by my words, Kuvira closed her eyes and lowered her head acceptingly, finally looking completely defeated. Once I'd done all I could, I helped Korra get her back onto her feet, an arm around each of our necks as Fang walked behind us and we returned back the way we'd come through the portal, emerging safely on the other side. Our friends and family came to meet us, Bolin propelling himself into the air with a fist as he cheered and laughed joyfully. "You're okay!" Before any of us could speak, several mecha-suits belonging to Kuvira's army surrounded us with their weapons raised, ordering us to surrender and release Kuvira or they would attack.

"Stand down." Kuvira ordered, drawing her arms back so that she could stand on her own so Korra and I let her go as she addressed her troops. "This battle is over. I owe the Avatar my life. Her power is beyond anything I could ever hope to achieve." She announced before speaking to the rest of us, bowing her head as she glanced towards where Su and Lin stood, at least having the decency to look ashamed. "I'll accept whatever punishment the world sees fit."

Kuvira was soon placed in platinum cuffs so that she couldn't bend out of them, not that I thought she would. I think she's really accepted defeat. Too bad it took until after she blew up half our city to get there, but I guess better late than never. At least we still have half a city still standing. Kuvira had already given the orders for her army to stand down and to release any prisoners of war who had been taken, which immediately made me think of Iroh. Wait until he sees all this. Let alone Raiko, he's going to be seriously pissed. "Kanna!" Suddenly I had Asami throwing her arms around me, taking me by surprise as she hugged me tightly before pulling back to talk. "My dad told me what you did, I can't thank you enough."

"Uh…what did I do?"

"You saved him! When you bended ice at the giant mecha-suit to keep him from being crushed. You saved my father's life Kanna, you have no idea what that means to me. I almost lost him today." She said to me and hugged me again so I bashfully waved it off.

"Oh you know, it was nothing. Glad I could help out a friend." I assured her as Hiroshi approached, smiling at me gratefully.

"Asami is right. Because of you, we've been given a second chance to begin again. I have a chance to fix my past mistakes, and I can continue to watch my beautiful daughter grow up. Thank you, Kanna." He said to me as Asami beamed, standing beside her father who put a loving arm around her, and I couldn't help but feel warm inside.

"Really, it was nothing. Of course I'd try and help." I said to them both as I lifted my hands. "I lost my father when I was very young, and I overheard Asami saying that she'd recently talked things out with you and decided to forgive the past. Knowing what it's like to be without one parent, I didn't want Asami to lose another. I hope you guys continue to grow closer, I really do. After all, there's really no greater gift in the world than family." I said as my own came to join me, Tenzin, Bumi and all my younger cousins as my uncles placed a hand each on my shoulder, making me smile as my cousins hugged me where they could reach.

"I couldn't agree more." Hiroshi said, looking at Asami with a loving smile before embracing her. I turned to my own family and we all grouped together for a hug, my uncles meshing together so all us kids were engulfed in their arms.

"I'm so proud of you all. You kids have really grown up and right before my very eyes. All of you have achieved a great accomplishment today that I hope you remember for the rest of your lives." Tenzin said astutely and wisely before Bumi threw up his hands into the air and shouted loudly.

"We kicked that darn metal giant's butt! They'll know now never to mess with us ever again, hey kids?" He celebrated and we younger ones as Tenzin just sighed in exasperation. This was exactly what my family was like, and I loved them for it. Turning around when I heard Bolin and Mako call my name, I beamed at them and threw open my arms as Bolin grabbed me around the waist and lifted me up as we celebrated.

"We won! We won! We actually won, and we're not dead!" He triumphed as I laughed, getting thrown up and down into the air by Bolin before he set me down and the three of us hugged. "I can't believe everything worked out just fine, better even! Now we have a new spirit portal in the middle of downtown."

"Yeah…I don't think everybody's going to be so excited about that as you are, bro." Mako pointed out and I laughed, slinging my arms over their necks to bring them down to my height as I grinned.

"Are you kidding? It's awesome! We're closer to the spirits now more than ever, and we defeated and overwhelming evil force for the fourth time now in just a few short years. We're on a role! Seriously guys, I think we might be the best Team Avatar ever." I said to them truthfully, making Bolin grin at me as Mako just smiled softly. "And we're all alive and in one piece, so I call that a win. Hey Mako, how's your arm feeling?"

"Better, it doesn't hurt so much since you healed it." He said, pulling his arm from around my back so that he could show it to me. Drawing out some water I healed it some more, soothing any discomfort he was feeling so that the burns wouldn't agitate him. After that we all put our arms around each other again as Korra and Asami came to join us, completing the circle as we all had our arms around each other's shoulders and leaned in until our heads were resting at the centre of the circle, all touching.

"So what happens now?" Bolin asked, frowning slightly as he tried to think. "I mean, there's no more army trying to take over the city, no metal monster to take down, Kuvira's been arrested and now we have a portal in the middle of downtown where everything's pretty much been totalled."

"We rebuild." Korra said to us all, looking stronger and more confident than ever before, like she had finally come into her own, and become the Avatar she was always meant to be as she looked at us all. "And we continue to maintain the balance of the world, promoting peace wherever we go in whatever way we can."

"Sounds good to me." I agreed, dipping my head towards her so that I could feel her head against mine. "But a long rest sounds even better first. I mean, I don't know about you guys but I'm exhausted, sore, hungry and I'm pretty sure I've had more than one building fall on top of me today." Asami chuckled richly.

"A rest does sound like a good idea. I think we've earned it."

"Now that I think about it, I'm starving. What about you Mako?"

"Me? I feel like I could sleep for a hundred years." He agreed, all of us sharing a collective sigh of exhaustion. Guess now that we were growing older, we didn't have the same endless energy that we used to. Knowing that there were still more people that needed to be healed, I straightened up and informed everyone that the work wasn't over yet, smiling as I waved them with a tilt of my head to get started, and so we all walked down together where we were greeted by all our friends and family, as well as a number of citizens who had been drawn back to the city due to the spirit portal. For a moment we all stopped, everybody staring at us until slowly, an applause began.

It was quiet at first, just a light patter of sound until it gradually escalated into a rolling thunder, hammering like the sound of rain as cheers, whistles and shouts followed as we all started in surprise, not expecting this. More citizens seemed to pour out from all sides, joining the applause until it felt like the entire city was cheering for us, so one by one we all linked hands, the five of us standing together before all at once, we raised our arms up in victory, fingers woven together. The response was deafening, and we basked in the appreciation despite knowing we'd face a lot of ridicule and reproach later, but for now there was no harm in enjoying it.

The moment was perfect, the candescent feeling causing our spirits to soar as Fang howled behind us as if to join in with the applause. Nothing could ruin this moment, everything was too perfect, too complete to be broken or shattered by anything, and I felt like I could live in this moment forever just to hold onto this feeling of standing beside my friends with the thundering applause before us, hands linked together and raised in the air until suddenly, President Raiko appeared from the throng and pointed at me.

"Arrest that girl immediately!" We all balked, blinking in dumbfounded stupor until I crashed back into reality.

"Aw, damn this senseless son of a-!" The crowds cheered louder.
