Author's Note:
The following chapters won't contain anymore of Bucky POVs, you'll see why in a hot minute.
Hours later:
I felt numb as I sat in the car, as we quickly made our way towards the airport.
The tears hadn't stopped coming since I had found out.
I clung to my brother's shirt, the moment the car stopped as he picked me up and took me into the jet.
"Is she going to be ok?" I heard Sharon ask.
"I don't know, Share, we're all shocked that this happened, but, we need to get Arie to safety. Bucky would have wanted it this way. We can figure out the rest later..." He murmured as he sat me down on the seat and throwing a blanket over me.
I stared blankly out the window of the darkened sky, feeling tears fall continuously.
"Arie, I know this is hard to hear but, Bucky is going to be ok. We will find him. I promise." Sam said as he sat down next to my feet.
"You don't know that…" I whispered, thickly.
"I've already contacted Steve and the rest of the team, they've already started their investigation. We will find him." He promised.
My tears only seemed to fall faster as I touched my stomach under the blanket, looking down, distraught.
"What's wrong, Arie? Are you still feeling sick?" He asked, frowning concern.
I shook my head in response, unable to think through the pain.
"No, Sam, I'm pregnant. I found out the day we drove back to Khimki to meet you there. I don't even know how far along I am… and now my Bucky is gone…. What am I going to do, Sammy?" I asked, brokenly.
He gasped, as all four of them turned to look at me sharply.
"Well the cat's out of the bag…" Zemo murmured, as I scoffed in response.
"Oh, Arie, why didn't you two say anything?" Sam asked, looking at Charlie as he came to sit across from me.
"I—I wanted to wait until I was more pregnant to tell everyone. He made me promise to be safe if something happened to him…" I explained, tearfully.
"Bucky did make me promise to watch over you earlier too…" Sam mentioned.
I flinched in response, as I covered my face with my hands, as my mind went back to a few hours ago.
Everything seemed to be going right until it wasn't.
We had taken out all of the guards, and suddenly the place began to swarm with more of them. They tried to grab me but Sam and my brother fought them off and Sharon helped me get away.
By the time we managed to get out, Zemo informed us that they had taken Bucky. I was too late, I couldn't help him.
Nothing else was said during the flight back to New York.
My chest ached from his absence, and my tears never ceased until I fell asleep a few hours into the flight.
When I woke up I was laying in a limousine, with my head on my brother, Clint,'s lap and my feet in Charlie's.
"Hawky?" I whispered as my eyes began to water, as I sat down, moving my feet off of Charlie.
"Arie…" he breathed, as his eyes watered too.
"He's gone, Hawk. My Bucky is gone…" I whispered as he pulled me into a fierce one armed hug.
"We'll get him back, Arie. I promise." He whispered.
"What am I going to do?" I asked pulling away to realize Tony, Steve, Nat, Sharon and Charlie were here too.
"For one, we have to take you to the doctor. We need to find out how far along you are, and get you and baby Barnes the proper prenatal care." Tony said, looking at me with a calm expression.
"Have you eaten?" Nat asked me worriedly.
"We ate something earlier but not much…" I whispered, leaning into my brother's chest.
"Happy, can you make a quick stop?" Tony asked as he raised a brow at me. "Anything sound good?" He asked.
I thought about it for a moment. "A bacon cheeseburger, with cheesy fries. Maybe a strawberry milkshake. Oh and chocolate cake please." I said, biting my lip.
"Done." He said as he looked around silently asking if anyone else wanted anything.
"Chocolate? But you hardly ever eat chocolate." Clint said, raising a brow.
"I know, it's just lately all I can think about is eating chocolate cake, and creamy fruit salad…" I muttered.
"Fair enough." He muttered, smirking at Charlie. "How did you find out?" He asked.
"She told us after it happened. They're married, Clint. We have to find him. He's family." Charlie told him.
I flinched, keeping my lap as I felt everyone's shock.
"Married?" Clint asked, looking over at me with a surprised expression.
"For almost three years…" I replied shyly.
"Three yee— wait— Wakanda? And you didn't tell us?" He asked, hurt.
"Nope. Just like you never told me you tied the knot with your wife….which by the way, I am still waiting to meet in person." I quipped.
He rolled his eyes at me, "I already told you. Laura said you can come over anytime you want…" He muttered.
"That's not the point, jackass. You are getting mad at me for marrying the love of my life without telling you two and you dickheads did the same thing. How is that fair?" I asked.
"It's not. You're right." He sighed, giving me a sheepish smile before taking my hand. "Now, why don't I see a ring?" He asked me, raising a brow.
I held up my left wrist. "This is my ring. That is my promise to be faithful. That is the symbol making me forever his…" I whispered, turning away as I started to tear up again.
Nat quickly switched seats with Charlie, and pulled me into a fierce hug.
"You don't have to worry about losing him, Arie. We'll find him." She whispered, rubbing my back as she did.
"What if they make him forget about the baby and me?" I whispered, brokenly.
"We'll find a way to bring him back. Because he's made you happier than any of us ever could, so that has to count for something. We won't stop until we do..." She said, looking around at everyone.
She stared at Sharon and my brother, who were looking at each other again, before leaning towards me again. "Do I want to know what's going on there?" She asked.
I turned to look over at them, groaning. "You won't believe it when I tell you." I whispered back.
She laughed before nodding and mouthing the word, 'later' to me.
We arrived late to the compound. Went to eat in the kitchen, before heading to bed.
I slept in Bucky's room, in one of his shirts, that still smelled of him.
When I woke up the next morning, I found it hard to find the will to get out of bed, until Nat quietly walked in and sat down at the foot of the bed with Steve.
"Is there a reason why you haven't gotten out of bed?" She quietly asked, as I laid there curling in a ball.
"No, I just don't think I can." I whispered.
"Arie, Tony found a doctor. He's coming to see you later today." Steve said as he moved to kneel in front of me.
"Will he be able to tell how far along I am?" I asked, quietly.
He nodded, smiling.
"You know, Sharon never meant to hurt you. She hopes you can forgive her …" I said.
"I have. We were only going through the motions. Our hearts weren't really in it." He said, giving me a smile as he looked over at Nat with a lovesick expression.
"When you two get married and have kids… please name your first born after me…" I said, smirking at them.
"Maybe. Now, let's get you out of bed, and feed my godchild." Nat said as she pulled away the blankets causing me to gasp from the cold air.
"Have you thought of any names?" Steve asked, smiling.
I smiled. "A few. Samantha Jacqueline, or Rebecca Arianne so far..." I replied smiling.
"What if it's a boy?" Nat asked, smirking
"If it's a boy then Steven James, Samuel Buchanan or Charles Anthony." I replied, sitting up.
"Now, why does this blunkhead get a child named after him but I don't?" She asked, pouting.
"Because Sam won the right of first born the other day. You can have the next one?" I offered smirking.
"Deal." She said before helping.me out of me.
After taking a quick shower, and changing into a loose tunic shirt and jeans. I slid my boots on and made my way down stairs to eat some food.
Wanda, and the humanoid, Vision, were cooking breakfast as I walked in.
"Arie! Hey! I've been so worried about you since we got the call." She said, giving me a small sad smile.
Wanda's mind went to when Bucky and I helped free her and her brother before bringing them back here.
She now can control more of her powers, since arriving. It made her sad that Bucky was gone.
"I'm fine. I just…" I broke off, swallowing thickly as I looked down.
"Oh, it's alright, Arie. We'll get him back." She promised, before Vision set down a plateful of chocolate and banana waffles before me.
"Made especially for you, Miss. Barton." He said, gently.
"It's Barnes, but I appreciate the gesture." I whispered as I took the fork and began to eat happily.
Wanda and I sat down and began to eat as Vision made more waffles.
"How is Pietro?" I asked, concerned.
"He is doing better. Got him to the hospital just in time. I'm here until tomorrow, I am only here to see how you were." She explained as she looked up.
"I could be better." I whispered sadly.
"We'll get him back, Arie. Once we do, there will be hell to pay." She vowed as she got up and took the plate to the sink.
"I know we will." I softly said.
If only my heart could believe it.
It was just after three when the doctor arrived. Clint and I went to the lab, and everyone gathered around as the doctor squirted the cold jelly-like substance onto my stomach.
He moved the sonography machine closer before he placed it into my slightly round stomach.
"Hm.."
We all tensed as he looked closer to the screen as a galloping sound resounded around the room.
Clint held my hand as we stared at the screen.
"It appears that you're almost twelve weeks pregnant." The doctor finally said surprised.
"Is that bad?" I asked confused as he moved his hand to the side.
"No, though with twins you should be bigger by now…" he noted.
"Twins? Did he just say twins?" I asked, shocked as I looked at Clint wide-eyed.
He nodded back shocked.
I brought my hand up to my face, as my eyes began to tear up. "Can—can you tell what the sex is will be?" I asked, tearfully.
We watched the doctor sigh, before turning to look back at the screen once more.
"It appears to be a boy and a girl. Congratulations." He replied as he handed me a small towel, before we heard the printer whir to life.
I wiped the gunk off my stomach as Clint helped me sit up.
"I will be prescribing prenatals and folic acid. I would like to watch your weight gain for now. I'll see you in three weeks. Congratulations again." He said as we shook his hand as he handed me the sonogram pictures.
Once he left I looked down at the pictures, gasping as I saw the pictures.
"He would have been so happy." I whispered looking up.
"He will be happy when we get him home." Clint said as he helped me hop off the examination table.
Just as we were making our way out Tony and everyone else walked in.
"Well?" Tony asked, excitedly.
"Twelve weeks, twins." I replied showing him the pictures.
"Boy and girl?" He asked as he handed the pictures around.
I nodded, smiling.
"Great! How about we go out for lunch to celebrate?" He suggested.
I looked at Clint for a moment before nodding.
Charlie suddenly appeared with his bag, hearing the news and hugging me. "I have to get home. I need to check on Little Bells." He said.
I nodded, smiling."Give my girl a hug and kiss from her favorite aunty." I said hugging him.
"I will. Don't stay away for too long, ya hear? I want to see you again, sometime soon." He said.
"Then you visit me. Soon I won't be able to travel much…" I pointed out.
"Right. Well, maybe for Christmas." He conceded.
"Great, see you then." I said with a smile. "Have a great trip! Call me when you land!" I said as he waved at me before getting into the waiting town car.
Clint wrapped an arm around me, "Are you ready to go?" He asked as he motioned to where everyone was waiting.
"Yup. Let's go. I'm starting to get hungry." I said as I pulled on my scarf and jacket.
"So, that's how you've been hiding it…" he muttered.
I smirked, nodding at him. "Loose clothing, no tight fits, lots of scarfs. Only Bucky noticed, and even then I convinced him it was blotting from my period." I replied as we got into the car.
"Smart move." He noted, as we made our way towards a steakhouse for lunch.
