The next day, Kate spends her time outside of a particular den that was heavily guarded, and she was one of those guards. She kept peeking inside the den, worrying about one specific wolf. Humphrey.
Humphrey was tied up with five layers of vines around his paws, legs, and his snout. Humphrey was their main priority in this situation, but that's not the case for Kate.
What she was worried about is his reaction about his actions to what he did to Sargent. Humphrey was going to freak out and guarantee to go to have a mental breakdown. She didn't want to see or know what he will look like in immense pain. She hated to see him that way, and she would hate that this would change Humphrey completely. She was scared to see what will he become after the tragedy. Kate wanted to enter the den and comfort Humphrey as much as possible despite his condition, but she can't. None of the wolves or the dogs aren't allowed to enter the den. They were afraid that the chemicals inside him would not wear off, and he would continue to rampage if this keeps up.
Kate looked back at the human camp. The wolves were forced to come back here, and it was hard to escape from the fire. Kate stared at the motor home and watched the shadows from the inside moving around. The dogs were too scared to show them what happened to Sargent. Not because they would scold them, which they don't.
The reason why they did not want to show them to Sargent is that they would leave the area, leaving Humphrey behind without knowing about it. Kate felt bad for them. This might be their first time losing someone that they love. Some of the wolves started to question them about saving his life, but the dogs told them that it's impossible to do that.
They found out that his ribs pierced his lungs and one of them punctured his aorta, which they assumed that Humphrey did that. The dogs gave him a proper burial for him to rest. However, there might be a chance that their parents would remove his grave to a different spot.
Kate averted her eyes away from the motorhomes and gazed down at the grave, which is also heavily guarded by Hummer, Max, Titan, and the others. She then heard rumbling in the sky, and it started to rain. Kate pinned her ears against her head and watched everyone else went to their den. She glanced down south to see the huge black smoke started to fade away.
Kate formed a little smile on her face. She was happy that the fire was stopped, but on the downside; their home was destroyed. She had never imagined a human creating a fire from his hands. Could this be the reason why Humphrey was hesitant to tell her what they're going to do to Jasper? If so, then she understands why.
She also understands why is it so difficult to beat him. He's extremely smart, extremely deadly, and extremely scary. She couldn't imagine fighting against him. The only solution she can think of is Humphrey's dad beating him up. She can see it in her mind, sending those blinding strikes and using its surroundings. Or bringing those god-awful tools to blast him away. Now that she thinks about it...she only saw a fight between two humans but never seen them going to war as wolves do. Kate shook her head, shaking the thought from her mind. This would be her last time thinking of something that would put a massive weight on her back.
The rain started to pour even harder, and Kate can hear the humans calling out the dog's name. Kate and the wolves widened their eyes right after that. They all hid inside the den, fearing that they will experience the same thing from about ten or eleven months ago. They feared what will happen if one of them realized that Sargent hasn't come back before discovering that he was dead. Or worse.
"Sargent" the woman yelled. The wolves began to dive deeper into their den right after that. They waited, waited, and waited, feeling the immense weight on their shoulders as they were expecting them to come barging in and blasting everything else in their sight. But they didn't, and Kate could've sworn that she heard her saying that she thought he's probably staying with Humphrey. For the first time, Kate felt bad for her. She's going to be upset after finding out that Sargent is dead.
They heard the door close, and the wolves began stepping out of the den slightly. Kate let out a sighed in relief when the tension is gone. She was glad that she didn't have to go through that same event.
Then, she heard someone groaning at the back of the den. Kate looked back to find Humphrey slowly waking up from his slumber, which brought a smile to her face.
"Humphrey" she called out his name happily while running towards him until Hutch stopped her from doing so.
"Kate, wait. We don't know if he's the same Humphrey we knew or not" Hutch warned her. Kate watched Humphrey shaking his head before opening those beautiful eyes that she loved the most. She sat down and hold her paws together close to her chest, hoping that Humphrey was back to normal so she can wrap her arms around him and tell him that it's going to be okay.
Humphrey shook his head one more time until his vision was cleared. He looked down and noticed that his snout, paws, and legs were all tied up with vines. He gazed down at the entrance of the den to see everyone else.
"Guys, why am I all tied up" he mumbled loudly. "Kate?!"
"Humphrey" Kate called him out, but Hutch refuses her to get closer.
"Humphrey, what was the last time you remembered" he questioned him.
"W-What," Humphrey said, feeling scared.
"I said, what was the last time you remembered?!" When he said that, Humphrey started to have flashbacks of him sliding down the cage and being injected by that awful chemical. He remembered him being thrown around right after that before blacking out with immense pain in his body. Humphrey widened his eyes with his pupils fading away before screaming out in fear and began curling up into a ball.
"HUMPHREY" Kate screamed out as she pushed Hutch aside.
"Kate wait" Hutch shouted, but she didn't listen to him. Kate ran towards him and began to embrace him tightly as he shook violently.
"It's okay Humphrey. It's okay" she said before kissing his head and his cheek. She continues to comfort her boyfriend as much as she could. She had no idea what's going on with him, but whatever they've done to him must be bad. "I'm here Humphrey...I'm here..."
The other wolves began to understand that this is the Humphrey they knew, which means that the chemicals must've worn off.
After several minutes, Humphrey stops shaking, but he had his paws over his eyes. Kate wanted to ask him what's wrong, but she didn't want to. Otherwise, it would freak Humphrey out for some reason. "Humphrey..." she called, slowly stroking his back, soothing his pain and fear. Humphrey took several deep breaths with his tied paws over his eyes. Kate nuzzled his neck passionately.
"In my mind...you guys did something bad right in front of me" he stated, confusing Kate and the other wolves.
"What do you mean Humphrey" Kate asked him worriedly. Humphrey moved his paws from his eyes and looked at Kate. Kate gasped when she saw his eyes. They were filled with fear and horror like something traumatized Humphrey for a long time.
"I saw you cheating on me. I saw you having sex with someone else I didn't even know." Kate responded to him by kissing him on the lips. Humphrey widened his eyes before closing them and savoring the moment. Kate broke the kiss and put a smile on his face.
"Does that prove that I didn't cheat on you?"
"Yes, but I already knew you didn't cheat on me. It's just that...whatever they put in makes me see these horrible things that aren't even real, but it feels real for some reason." Kate wrapped her arms around him and hold him tight with her head pinning against his neck.
"Don't believe anything you saw. It's just an illusion okay." Humphrey nodded his head and began closing his eyes to savor his girlfriend's warmth. He felt so much safer in Kate's grasps. Kate smiled and was glad that Humphrey is back. The wolves began untying Humphrey's paws, snout, and legs before leaving the den to give them some space. Humphrey looked down at the ground and stared at the vines. He broke the embrace and stared at Kate in her eyes.
"Hey Kate, why was I tied all up?"
"Oh...uhhh well..." Kate paused, making Humphrey anxious. Kate didn't even want him to know what he did, especially to Sargent.
"Kaaate...what happened?" Kate didn't respond to him. She was afraid to see his reaction, knowing that it will hurt him badly. "Kate...please tell me what happened? You're not helping when you're staying silent..." He's right. She's not helping him out if she continues to keep hiding this from him. Kate then hugged him tightly and was scared to see his painful reaction. "Kate?" Kate didn't say anything. She started stroking his back and continue to hug him tightly as possible. "Kate? Kate?" Kate frown and closed her eyes as she wrapped her neck around his.
"Promise you won't get mad or upset? Please?"
Humphrey widened his eyes when she said that. He gulped down his throat before his lips started to tremble. Kate felt him nodding his head slowly, letting her know that he's ready to take in the pain. Kate slowly wrapped his tail with hers before speaking out.
"Humphrey...while you were out. You weren't acting yourself. When that Raven Mocker brings you here, you started attacking everyone else in your sight..." Kate stopped talking and waited for his response.
"And?" Humphrey questioned her with fear. Kate widened her eyes and even flinch from his response. She looked down at the ground and gritted her teeth. Humphrey knew there's something bad he did, and Kate was extremely scared to tell him. "Kate, I promise I won't get mad or upset. Please tell me what happened." Kate gritted her teeth and hugged him tighter.
"Sargent...tried to stop...you from killing everyone...else after he got into a fight with the Raven Mocker. He was injured very badly...but...you...made it worse..." Humphrey enlarged his eyes, and Kate can feel him tensing his body up, which cause her to stroke his back quickly. She closed her eyes tightly and pinned her ears flat against her head. She didn't want to hear him screaming or crying as she prepared to reveal the result. "Sargent...Sargent died from his injuries."
Then, Humphrey's beautiful blue eyes disappeared before getting overwhelmed with tears. Kate held onto him tightly and heard him scream as his body shook. Her left shoulder started to get wet from Humphrey's tears, and she tried her best to comfort Humphrey.
"It wasn't your fault Humphrey...it's not your fault. You didn't kill him because you weren't yourself. It was the Blight Corp's fault." Kate told him, hoping that it would ease his emotional breakdown, even by making such small progress, but it didn't work out. Humphrey's scream was loud enough for the dogs to hear his pain when they're inside the motorhome.
"Humphrey" Jade whimpered when she heard his scream. The pain in his scream was so unbearable to hear. They can hear his voice cracking up, and the shaking tone of his scream.
Kate was losing her strength to hold Humphrey in her grasp. She couldn't listen to Humphrey's painful scream. Her shoulder was dripping with Humphrey's tears, and he just created a new river in Jasper park.
It took several hours for Humphrey to stop crying. He was passed out from crying so hard, but still whimpering in his sleep. Kate grasps his tail tightly with hers and began stroking his back. Kate sighed heavily before laying down beside him. She had never seen a wolf cry for this long, and never knew how painful it is to hear someone you love crying. Humphrey's scream is probably the worst one she had ever experienced yet. If his scream was this bad, she couldn't imagine his death scream. Kate then smacked herself in the face. She promised herself not to think any negative thoughts or else it would ruin her mentally.
Kate stared at Humphrey as tears continue making their way through his closed eyelids.
"Poor Humphrey..." she whimpered. She laid her head on his shoulder before nuzzling his wet cheek. There is without a doubt that Humphrey's going to have a major nightmare, possibly replaying what he did to Sargent. She's still couldn't believe that Humphrey would deserve this kind of stuff. He really doesn't, and it's not healthy for him to take in the pain. He must've thought that he finished Sargent off and did the dirty work for the Blight corps. But it was not his fault though.
Kate closed her eyes and went to sleep with her boyfriend. Tomorrow is going to be a rough day, and she's not looking forward to it.
Yeah...I agree with Kate. We're not looking forward to Humphrey's day tomorrow. It's gonna be rough. I might update Five Alphas, One Omega after I'm done writing a chapter for my other story from a different franchise. This story is somewhat almost finish. There's like at least ten or twelve chapters left, but I might be wrong. What did you guys think? What will happen next? I'm TheRavenMocker. Be a raven, mock the ravens. We'll see you guys on the next flight.
