He brought me to a room that appeared to be completely made of light.
Everything was white and illuminated by some sort of light source that was obviously far more powerful than any florescent light.
There were black circular crates with visors on the front of them, all stacked up along the sides of the walls.
Then there were two silver rods that stood 5 feet apart, side by side and the silver rods seemed to hum, a intense energy radiated from them, vibrating through the entire room.
"These are Dimensional forks.
They create a doorway into other worlds, they also serve as portals that can transport you any place you want to go.
So if you ever intend on leaving I'd much prefer you'd use these to serve as your exit.
These also allow me to conserve energy when I'm traveling from one place to another.
Hopefully they will provide you safe passage to wherever you need to go".
"Suppose I want to come back here?"
"Don't you worry the Forks will provide that as well. Any other questions?"
"Yes actually.
What are these crates for?"
"It's kind a long story".
"Well then...can you shorten you perhaps?"
"Perhaps.
You of course remember me telling about my past don't you?"
"Yeah which part of your past are we talking about?"
"The part where I'm a slave driver."
"Slave master blues, got you.
Soo..what about it?"
"This is where I put them...my slaves.
I used to bring them here place them in these crates to await my orders."
Previously I'd been touching one of the crates, gently tapping on one however I yanked my hand away as if I'd touched a surface that was way too hot for my skin.
"Relax...they aren't here at the moment...they are elsewhere.
I allow them to roam the mortuary and occasionally out amongst the humans especially during...the late hours of the night.
Now would be a appropriate time to run".
His eyebrow slightly slanted in a challenging sort of way
"Okay...funny thing is I'm still here and I'm not running.
So I don't know if that was meant to be a warning or a challenge.
Perhaps you could enlighten me".
"You wanted to run before what's stopping you now?"
That was a excellent question.
I admit I liked danger and I enjoyed the thrill of doing anything that was risky and on edge.
I lived life on the edge so was this just another moment of me getting a buzz from another possibly hazardous situation.
"Nothing is stopping me.
It's just my damn common sense and that common sense tells me there's no sense in running.
I mean there's no point in running, there's no logical reason for it.
I'm not going to run unless it was nessesary for my survival and even if I needed to run eventually I'd have to stop running and face whatever is chasing me.
Plus I don't think I can outrun you.
You may look like an old man but I doubt if you run like one.
I'm sure there's plenty of folks who've tried outrunning you and I'm sure it didn't end well for them.
They died anyhow.
So I have two choices either I die now or I die later.
So in all honesty I'd rather die now rather than later.
You take any old folktale that has death in the story you'll come to the conclusion that no good comes from running from it.
You have to face death eventually.
We all have to face it one of these days.
Maybe not you personally but anyone that's human anyway.
So no I'm not going to run, even if I was scared shitless, it wouldn't be wise thing to leave this place in fear.
I've seen criminals run, they commit one crime the first time, then they run from the Police, they try to stay in hiding, but they make one wrong move and cops sniff them out.
So even they settle down somewhere, they never really stopped running, all they did was relocate and their fear followed them.
You run from fear one time and you might be running from it for your whole life."
"You astound me...on how wise you are.
Humans rarely possess such wisdom.
It's refreshing to have someone that actually has a brain to work with."
"Hey I work my brain all on my own, so don't you play any mind games with me.
I work this brain all by myself, so I don't need any help.
If you try to get in my head and work it for me I'm going to unlock every fear you've ever had in your in your entire grave digging, knife cutting, murderous and slave driving career.
In other words every fear in your entire life.
Got it?"
"Understood.
Yet allow me to point out that unlocking every one of my fears will be quite a ordeal.
It may even prove to be a arduous chore because I've seen all of space and time and I've explored nearly every inch of the universe.
It may take an eternity to go through all the memories of fear that live in my head.
You are not even sure, not even certain that I have any fears whatsoever.
I fear nothing, I fear no one.
I am the epitome of Fearlessness."
"Fair enough, touche, all of that.
Yet still if you try anything funny with those mind powers you've got, I'm not helping you one bit.
Do anything sick or twisted I'm out.
That means I won't be staying here either.
I'll go back to my sad little studio and when I get there we'll part ways.
I'll stay out of your way, you stay of my way and we don't have to ever talk to each other ever again.
Heck I wouldn't mind if we never saw each other again either."
"Fine. It is agreed and it has been well established... particularly... by you.
You've made it very clear with all your nervous rambling.
There's no need to ramble.
I get your point.
I'll keep my end of the bargain of course."
"Good...I'm glad to hear it."
