"You know i was never scared of you, until last night."

Her voice was temperate and thoughtful, hushed and rather subdued.

"Then my scare tactic actually worked after all".

I unlocked the wrist band by waving my controller over the scanner and it swiftly clicked open.

My wrist band was really more of a watch.

It told the time and it could connect to other special technological devices.

This was not a new piece of technology especially amongst humans but it was nevertheless similar in many ways, the only difference was this watch was a bit more complex.

She smiled in secretive sort of way; i could tell she found what I said to be somewhat humorous.

When i removed the wrist band the skin, it was revealed that her skin was slightly swollen, there was a deep indentation ring around her wrist and there were tiny scorch marks that clung to that indentation ring of darkened skin.

"This needs medical attention immediately".

I pressed my watch to call for a medic.

"No- no- drugs. They'll give me drugs. Just let it heal on its own".

"Okay. If you insist. Can you uh heal yourself?"

"No that gift only works on other people".

"Are you sure? I mean have you ever tried using it for your own benefit?"

"No not really. I just assumed it only worked for the benefit of others, so I've never used it for myself."

"Why on earth would you assume that?"

I had a sharp edge of disbelief in my tone.

"Well I sort of thought it would be considered as selfish if i used it for myself.

I thought to myself maybe it was only meant to help other people and if that were the case it probably wouldn't work for me alone. So i never tried it".

"That's ridiculous. Well never mind that, at least give it a try. Give it go, at least one time.

There wouldn't be any harm. Besides it's not exactly selfish to take care of yourself.

Self care is a necessity and by the looks of that wrist of yours, you definitely need it."

"Well I've never thought of it that way, so I suppose you're right. Okay I'll try it but I have a feeling it won't work".

She was right, it didn't work.

I stood up from my chair and I strode up behind her.

"Place your hand on mine". I instructed her.

"What? Why? How is that supposed to help?"

At this point my shoulders encompassed her own like a shadow.

"Just trust me it'll help."

She placed her uninjured hand on top of mine and ever so gently I glided my hand over her other hand.

"Now try it."

She wasn't convinced.

"Allow me to explain, you use your little gift, your power flows through me and my hand acts as a sort of conduit".

She believed me after that.

There was a warm rippling prickle that shot through my hand. It began in the center of my hand and it then branched out to the parts of my hand and then in turn rippled through the rest of my system. I could see a soft glow engulf my hand for a few moments.

Then that glow ribboned around her injured hand, weaving in and out like a light filled needle, instead of stitching up the wounds, it made the scorch marks and swelling disappear entirely.

The skin appeared completely untouched by any injuries whatsoever.

"See, I told you it would work."

"I didn't know I could do that.

How did you know that would work?"

"I used to be a electrical engineer, before...before I came here."

"That's impressive, you must be awfully... smart if you could do that".

"I could do but it I didn't like it much. I tried my hand in other professions but none of them really suited me."

"You must be really well educated".

"I was and yes I still am but that doesn't matter much anymore. It's just pieces of paper, that's all that sets you apart from the rest of the world is simple pieces of paper".

"Even paper has its importance out in the world. What kind of papers did you get exactly?"

"Well the way the education system works is you hand in papers of your own, that you've actually written on and then a board of people who read papers, they approve of them and then they tell you that you are a doctor. I did that twice. It still didn't get me anywhere".

"You mean to say you have two doctorates?"

"Yes as a matter of fact i do.

One is in electrical engineering the other is in Mycology. I also studied extensively in pathology and kinesiology.

I hoped to be a medical doctor but I guess it was not meant to be, Yet on the bright I did take enough chemistry to be a pharmacist.

Believe me that's not a fun job, at least it wasn't for me".

"Well there's no need to brag".

She had a dead pan expression on her face but I had a feeling she was being facetious.

"Nothing much to brag about really, my life before all this was sad and dull. It was the absolute doll drums if you must know.

If it's any value to you, I am sorry...for what happened...with your wrist...and the shock treatment."

"I'm over it."

She stood up from her chair and ambled towards her room.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm going to get dressed. You can let go of my hand now".

I unknowingly was clasping onto to her wrist which I quickly corrected by sliding my hand away from hers.

"For what reason?"

"I'm your personal assistant remember.

I don't need your permission just to dress myself do I?"

"No of course not. That would be ridiculous.

Carry on".

"Wait before you go, I should probably give you this first".

She opened her mouth slightly, ready to ask me but before she could get any words out I slide a security bracelet on her.

It was literally just another electromagnetic bracelet with a tracking device built in.

It was slim and silver.

"You can't stand not being in control can you?"

She stormed off and she hardly spoke to me for the rest of the day.
