A Hero's Welcome
"Oh, man!" Rex exclaimed as he walked through the automatic gate of their headquarters along with the rest of the Guardians of the Globe. "I feel like I'm gonna collapse into a thousand pieces."
Robot stopped walking as his chest cavity opened revealing the human form of Rudy Connors. "I think my suit just might."
"Man, you kids know how to complain," Black Samson said as he did some stretches for his own aching muscles.
Rex took off his mask and wiped some sweat. "Well, not all of us have super strength and endurance."
"Um, guys," Kate said as she pointed forward.
Right in the middle of the metal platform, located in their HQ, stood a very familiar white-haired figure. His arms hang at his sides as he gazed over the HQ's interior with a faraway look in his eyes.
"Um, are my eyes deceiving me, or is that Supreme?" Monster Girl asked.
Samson then let out a grin. "Hell yeah, it is," he said before walking over to the red and white-clad hero.
His head twitched before Supreme turned to them as if only now noticing that they were there before letting out a smile. "Oh, forgive me. I was deep in thought," he said before approaching them.
The new Guardians couldn't help but feel a little bit intimidated by Supreme. And how couldn't they? The man was literally the most powerful man on Earth, even handily defeated Omni-Man just a little while ago.
Though one of them had a different reaction.
"Supreme! Glad to have you back!" Black Samson exclaimed before clasping hands with the white-haired hero.
Ethan smiled. "Glad to be back, Samson!" he said before looking over his old friend. "I see that your powers have returned."
Samson chuckled before letting out a small chuckle and giving a flex of his arms. "Yeah, I finally got them back. Wish it was under better circumstances, but hey, I guess I can't complain."
"And you're also back with the Guardians of the Globe."
"Heh, indeed," Samson said with a smile before giving Supreme a little look over. "Man, look at you. So many years passed yet you haven't aged a day since I was a kid."
Rex, finally recovering from the shock of all the new information he was given. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Since you were a kid? How old is this guy?!"
"Supreme has been active since the fifties," Rudy explained. "So of course he would be older than Black Sampson."
Rex blinked. "Wow, that's… Jeez, you're old enough to be my great-grandfather!"
Monster Girl crossed her arms. "If he was your great-grandfather, you'd have looked better than you do now?"
"Hey! I look just fine!"
Supreme couldn't help but chuckle at that.
"Well, I must admit, I'm kinda jealous," Samson said. "I mean you look the same, while I… Well, you can clearly see."
Supreme put a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, you look fine. If anything you're aging gracefully."
"Heh, thanks. That means a lot coming from a guy like you."
Ethan then looked over to the rest of the Guardians who simply watched the two converse. "Forgive my manners. I think it's only natural we introduce ourselves," he said before walking over in front of them. "I'm sure you know who I am already, but to be polite, I'm Supreme."
Rudy was the first to offer his hand, which Ethan took for a handshake. "Rudolph Connors, though my hero name is Robot," he said while pointing to his mechanical suit behind him. "Mostly because of this little thing."
Glancing at the robot armor, Supreme gave an impressed nod. "A very admirable piece of technology. I see you're using magnetic links to keep it together. And they are integrated in such a way to make it even nimbler than a human body. Very impressive."
Rudy blushed at the praise. "Oh, well, um… Thank you."
With a smirk, Rex took a handshake next. "Hey there, old-timer. Name's Rex Splode."
"Hey!" Samson exclaimed. "You better treat him with respect."
Supreme just amusingly waved his hand. "It's alright. You know I'm not that easily offended."
"At least you're not a cranky old-timer," Rex commented which made Supreme chuckle.
"Well, I'm Monster Girl," the youngest-looking Guardian said. "It's very nice to meet you."
Supreme nodded. "Likewise."
Next was Kate's turn to shake hands. "I'm Dupli-Kate."
"Well, I guess I'm last," the green-clad member of the team said before taking Supreme's hand in a handshake. "I'm Shrinking Rae. I'm, uh… It's an honor to meet you, sir."
After finishing the introductions, Supreme looked at them with a smile. "I'm glad to have officially met you, Guardians of the Globe."
Rex tapped Rudy on the shoulder. "Heh, the big guy approves. That's got to give us some street cred."
Rudy rolled his eyes before addressing the Man of Majesty. "Look, I know that we are a far cry compared to the previous Guardians, but I'm sure that with your guidance and leadership, this team will surely be elevated to its fullest potential."
"Indeed," Samson commented before tapping Supreme on the shoulder. "With this guy leading us, there won't be anything we can't do."
At this, Supreme's smile faltered. "I'm sorry to say this, but I'm not here to return to the team."
Everyone was shocked when he said that.
"Wait, you're not?" Samson asked.
Supreme shook his head. "No. I only came to see this place again. I…" He looked over the rest of the headquarters. "I wanted to remember the times I spent with the others here."
The Guardians exchanged sorrowful glances. They realized they caught Supreme in his moment of grieving, remembering his now-deceased friends who were killed by somebody he thought was an ally.
Of course he wouldn't just come back to the team. It was probably too emotional for him. He may be the world's mightiest man, but he was still a man. Prone to sadness like everybody else.
"But," Supreme said as he returned his smile. "I can say that you are still worthy Guardians. I assure you, you have my utmost faith that you'll do an admirable job. Maybe one day I'll return to the team, but until then I-"
Supreme's head suddenly twitched before he looked to the side. "Forgive me, but something just came up. And I have to go," he said as he began floating. "And you, Samson, you're the oldest here. Watch out for them."
Samson gave him a thumbs up. "You bet I will."
With a nod, Supreme disappeared in a burst of speed, leaving a small gust of wind behind.
"Okay, just because he said that, that doesn't make you our babysitter," Rex told Samson who just crossed his arms.
"But I am the most experienced out of all of us."
Rae leaned down to Monster Girl. "Oh my God, we just talked to Supreme. I mean, how cool is that? And… And I shook his hand. Oh god, I think I'm gonna pass out."
Monster Girl put her hands on her hips. "Well, looks like somebody's a fangirl."
"Come on, he's like the greatest guy on the planet. How are you not excited?"
"I don't show it outwardly too much," Monster Girl said with a shrug.
Rudy smiled before shaking his head amusingly. He knew that with Supreme around things would get a lot more interesting.
Cecil tapped his foot as he looked at the body of the Immortal. Honestly, he berated himself for not thinking of doing this sooner. The man was called Immortal, so why didn't he think of doing this the first time?
They recovered Immortal from the battle against Omni-Man and brought him back to an underground facility where they were able to combine his two halves that were split by Omni-Man with a special mechanical belt.
And now they were waiting for his recovery.
Cecil then felt a gust of wind on the back of his head. "Took you long enough. With your speed, I thought you'd be here ten seconds ago."
"He still isn't revived yet," Supreme said as he walked next to Cecil. "Dear God, in all of our years working together I've never seen the Immortal in such a state."
"First time for everything, Ethan," Cecil said with a shrug. "Also, if he gets… grouchy, you better make sure he doesn't hurt anyone."
Supreme's eyebrows fell, but he nodded. He saw the footage of Immortal fighting Omni-Man and saw just how angry he was. There could be some leftover anger from that fight as well.
The Immortal's limp fingers then slowly began moving while his face twitched. The examiners around slowly began to put some distance between themselves and the immortal hero.
"Well, looks like the Sleeping Beauty is finally-"
Immortal then gained a heavy frown before immediately rising to his feet with a loud roar. He then tore the belt from his midsection and began frantically looking around with bloodshot eyes.
The moment he saw Supreme he began glaring manically. "OMNI-MAN!"
Supreme gritted his teeth and cursed under his breath. Looks like the red and white colors with a red cape made him less distinguishable in the Immortal's eyes.
Before Supreme could deny his friend's accusation, the Immortal roared again and flew at Supreme with his fist cocked back. Supreme quickly pushed Cecil out of the way before stopping the Immortal's punch by catching his wrist, which also stopped the Immortal mid-flight.
The immortal then tried to punch with his other fist only for that one to be caught as well. Immortal loudly grumbled as he tried to push against Supreme, but the latter held him back easily. The Immortal was strong, but he was never a match for Ethan's Strength Supreme.
"Abe! Abe, calm down!" Supreme exclaimed as he pushed the Immortal back. "Listen, it's not Omni-Man! It's me! Abe, please, calm yourself!"
The Immortal let out several heavy breaths as his glare slowly subsided. Getting a closer look at Ethan's face, the glare disappeared completely, replaced with surprise.
"S-Supreme?" Immortal said as the tension left his muscles, prompting Supreme to let go of his wrists. "You…? It's really you. You're back."
Supreme nodded. "Yes, I'm finally back."
Immortal then blinked. "W-wait. Where's Omni-Man?!"
"I'm sorry, but Nolan's gone. He's out of our solar system by now. Even I don't know where he had gone to."
"He… He's gone?" Immortal asked in shock. He then frowned before suddenly grabbing Supreme's costume. "What do you mean he's gone?! How on Earth could he escape you?!"
"Immortal, calm-"
"Don't give me that!" Immortal interrupted. "You're Supreme! The strongest being in this world! You could have easily torn Omni-Man to pieces! How did you let him escape?!" He closed his eyes before violently shaking his head. "Ugh, this is all your fault to begin with!"
Supreme blinked but before he could respond, Immortal continued his ramblings.
"You never should have left! You should have done your duty to Earth! If you stayed none of this would have happened! Our friends wouldn't have died! They…! They…"
The Immortal's face fell as his grip on Supreme lessened. "They're gone. They're all gone," he said with a few sobs. After several revivals, only now did his mind fully went back to his allies. "Oh God, Supreme. They… Omni-Man, he… He killed them all. Red Rush, Darkwing, War Woman, Green Ghost, Aquarus, Martian Man. They're gone."
Supreme looked at his grieving friend with sadness before putting a comforting hand on his shoulder. "I know, Abe. I know."
Cecil and several others stared at the two heroes for several moments before Cecil spoke up. "Alright everyone, let's leave those two alone."
And with that, Cecil and the staff left the room where Supreme comforted his friend who let his bottled-up emotions out.
Supreme flew among the clouds, using his Sight Supreme to locate something he left behind along with everything else when he left Earth. Spotting an artificial cloud among the others, he smiled before flying over.
Once he passed the cloud, he was met with a familiar sight. It was a huge floating golden fortress, which to everyone else would appear as a city with the towers and spires that were seated on top of a semi-spherical foundation.
Supreme landed in front of a giant door with a white circle in the middle. He then brought his hands together and began rubbing them at Speed Supreme. Several electric bolts began emanating from his hands before a large one shot out of them and struck the circle in the middle, making it glow.
The moment the glow stopped, the door began opening, and in front of them stood several people. And all of them looked identical to Supreme, though their faces held blank expressions. One of them approached Supreme and managed a small smile.
"Suprematon S-1 at your service," he said in a voice similar to Supreme's but with some static behind it. "Welcome back to Citadel Supreme, sir."
Supreme nodded. "It's good to be back, S-1. Now, I need to check on something."
Ethan stood in front of a large monitor screen as he pressed some buttons. Video footage popped on the screen, showing a young woman who looked identical to Supreme, with her long white hair and similar costume whose difference was that she wore a skirt and her legs were bare.
The footage showed her flying into the upper atmosphere and it stopped there.
Ethan's eyes narrowed at the video before he turned to S-1. "And this was the last time anyone saw Suprema."
S-1 nodded. "That's indeed the case. We checked if she might have left any clues or messages to indicate where she could have gone to. I'm sorry, sir, but I and the other Suprematons did our best in this situation."
"I don't blame you, S-1. And I'm still very grateful for your efforts," Supreme said. "I'll… have to look for Sally later. Right now, I have some other questions that need answering."
Later, Supreme found himself seated on a chair with a mechanical helmet on his head that was connected to a computer with some wiring. S-1 looked over him as the helmet's circuitry buzzed with electricity and the computer beeped.
"S-2, what does the analysis say?" S-1 asked his fellow android who looked over the computer.
"It would appear that Supreme's brain is still affected by the drugs he was exposed to for a prolonged period of time," S-2 said in a more mechanical voice compared to S-1. "His memories of the trip are still affected, but Supreme should regain them over time."
Supreme sighed beneath the helmet before rising, taking it off, and putting it on the chair. "Well, at least that's some good news. Maybe I'll remember who captured me."
He then suddenly felt a headache, as he went to nurse it with his hand. A few images then began popping into his head.
Supreme was flying through space, smiling as he admired the sights of many planets he passed by. He then saw a blue planet and decided to pay it a visit.
On this planet, several blue-skinned aliens were on their knees, looking at him in panic while Supreme held a look of shock.
"Sir, are you alright?" S-1 asked as he came over to his creator.
Supreme shook his head. "I'm fine. It looks like my memories are starting to come back. It's not much but it's something."
"I'm sure you'll be back in your full capacity soon," S-1 said.
"Thank you. Now if you excuse me, I'll have to leave for a little while. The world outside still needs me."
Mark, once again in his Invincible costume, flew over to a police car while holding several masked crooks in his hands.
"Here you go, officers," Invincible said with a smile.
After he fully recovered, Mark went back to his hero work. His mom insisted that he took some more time off, but he assured her that he was fine and could go back to his duties.
And so far, it was only small robberies so far, but Mark knew that supervillains would come around as well. And he was more than ready for them.
"Thank you, Invincible," one of the officers said as he and his colleagues cuffed the criminals. "I'm glad we have you to help."
"I'm only doing my duty," Invincible assured before waving. "Well, I have to go. See ya!"
He flew away from the scene high above the city buildings, eager to take any other criminal that might turn up.
"Not too shabby," a sudden comment from beside him made him jolt in surprise before he was greeted with a smiling face of Supreme who flew next to him while his red cape fluttered in the wind. "Looks like you're also in the superhero business, eh?"
"Oh, hey there, uncle Ethan," Invincible greeted with a smile. "And yeah, I am. I actually started just this year. Looks like we'll be teaming up a lot more often these days."
"Indeed," Supreme said. "By the way, how are you holding up?"
"Well, if you mean about the stuff about my dad, then better. Sure, it's still shocking, but I'm not gonna let that hold me down forever. I'm still a superhero, and the people need my help," Mark answered. "Say, is there something you needed, or are you just paying a visit?"
"Well, a bit of both. I really wanted to see you again now that you're well. And I also thought we should spend some time together. I've been gone a while, and I think some catching up is required, wouldn't you say?"
"Spending time with the world's greatest superhero? Now who would turn that down?"
Supreme chuckled at the snarky response. "Alright then, Mark. Follow me," he said before making a turn and leaving a sonic boom in his wake, with Mark following close behind.
AN: And that is it, my dear readers! We saw Supreme interact with more characters of this world, and some of his own lore adapted in this chapter. I hope it was to your liking. And again, sorry for the long wait.
I also implore you to check out my other chapters. Trust me, they are worth it. And leave a review, they are great motivators.
See you next time!
