Chapter 1: Forbidden Protectors

Auditorium, Casey Lorraine Institution of Creation, Canyon Point (July 7, 2091)

"Global warming did a number on the Earth. It also brought some good to the world. Ocean life thrived from the new habitats that came. Back then, people would say that it was the end of the world. In a sense it really was. Fifty leagues of raised water destroyed most of the seaside towns of the world and even submerged entire nations.

Out of all the continents of the world, Asia was hit the hardest.

During the 2010s and 2020s, China built artificial islands in an attempt to control what used to be their territory centuries ago. The rising tides swallowed it as well as many of its cities. To this day, Hong Kong remains flooded.

The Philippines nearly lost most of its three major islands of Luzon, Visaya, and Mindanao were it not for repeated volcanic eruptions from the Taal Volcano and numerous other active volcanoes creating more land. As a consequence, it reconnected Taal Lake with the South China Sea after almost four centuries of separation.

India, Indonesia Malaysia, North, and South Korea lost many of their cities and drove their inhabitants inland. Taiwan was submerged completely.

Japan was hit the hardest. More than eighty percent was swallowed up by the Pacific Ocean and experienced radiation poisoning from the remains of the Fukushima Nuclear Reactor for a few decades. Now they used most of their boats, liners, cruise ships, and Self Defense fleet as parts of a megacity attached to Mt Fuji, above what many used to call the "Suicide Forest". At times, algae-covered corpses would float to the surface only to fall apart like sand in the wind.

The disasters brought by the tide caused a massive influx of refugees to other nations just to unite with long-lost families and look out for each other.

Families reunited become separated.

Families become desperate.

Individuals in their extreme pessimism, corruption, and prejudice sow divide in many for clout and acceptance.

Succeeding to do so, they gained paranoia and began destroying the foundations of society for their own benefit and protection.

It became their downfall and collapsed oh so many.

Wars became fought over control of the masses.

Hundreds of millions were killed from this social unrest that plagued the hearts and minds of many.

From the remains, nations crumbled and cities reigned supreme.

There was one city that stood among the rest for its prosperity... and that is Canyon Point." a spokesman called out as he stood at a podium. "Thirty years since its establishment we have recaptured land that belongs to our grandparents and their grandparents. Twenty years ago, we were in an economical slump for forty-three days until we received the financial backing and support of Orange Horizon, the world leader of engineering, infrastructure, weapons development, and technological advancement."

Claps were heard as the spokesman continued talking.

"It is with great honor to bring you Orange Horizon's CEO, Goody Harrow!" more clapping came as a lone man in his mid-40's walked up to the podium with a dark figure walking from behind the stage.

Harrow stopped at the podium and stood there for a solid thirty seconds so the crowd can finish clapping.

"Greetings, everyone. As Mr. Andreas said, I am Goody Harrow, CEO of Orange Horizon." the man began calmly as he eyed the dark figure nearby. "Back in my twenties, I inherited Orange Horizon from my mother, the previous CEO, after her health issues worsened. When she passed, I vowed to carry on her legacy by landing new business opportunities to fund our projects."

A few murmurs came as the dark figure looked at the ceiling for any threats. It then looked at the masses.

A few persons of interest. They were like anomalies that did the same as the figure in observing. The only problem is:

They weren't affiliated with Orange Horizon.

Sounds of clicking and loading, with a barely audible clinging and clanging ringing out.

It could hear suppressed gunfire. People in the far back began panicking, wondering what was happening.

All of those persons of interest all left to investigate what it was.

"Besides that, the biggest issue we have in the city is a crime. The grave robbings. Mass hysteria and suicide were incited upon the masses. Irrational and irresponsible. Unpunished people. We intend to stop it any way we can." Harrow looked at the shadowy figure and nodded, signaling it to handle the situation. "That's why we have protectors hidden in the shadows."

The dark figure walked out into the spotlight, revealing what looks like some guy inside a black and silver motorsports fire suit with red gloves and boots. His shin guards were as black as his torso, which only has a red strap encircling his hips. The zipper on his suit was barely visible and clearly made from durable synthetic material. His silver motorcycle helmet has a red radio connected to the right side. There were cyan decals that outlined the teal visor, giving him a nice touch in design.

"This is our Blast Oriented Mass Breach Erective Response Manipulator. Affectionately known as Bomberman by our RND staff." Harrow commented. Bomberman looked at Harrow and formed two white eyes that gave him an annoyed glare. He did not ask to be the subject of his presentation.

Bomberman brought out his left arm and began heating a small radius of the air surrounding him. Letting it cool, he made a mad dash to the nearest emergency exit.

Harrow continued talking so the audience would remain calm.

"Bomberman was conceptualized by a former student at this institution: The late Joseph Mitsumori..."

With Bomberman...

Bomberman slowed down once he neared the source of the shooting-

Three gunmen, two combat androids, multiple anomalies.

["Designed to use passive and destructive force to subdue any situation..."]

(/EXECUTION IMMINENT/) were the words flashing in his HUD.

Finding the first gunman, he made clicking noises that caught the attention of one of the gunmen.

The first gunman crept in with a submachine gun, training it on as many things for his own enjoyment.

He felt the air surrounding him heat up but ignored it despite the sweat forming on his brow. The clicking source must be here somewhere-

A cupped hand violently tore through his diaphragm and broke through his esophagus, nearing the roof of his mouth.

His blood poured like a fountain, incapable of any movement. A piece of his spine was visible from his mouth.

The last thing he saw was a furious android with his forearm deep in his ribcage and throat, compressing it with his fist. *BANG!*

Bomberman made his victim's upper torso explode by planting an explosive inside his neck. Bits and pieces of vaporized blood, organs, and tissue went all over his helmet.

["We made something that is both a protector and an executioner...]

The lone android went to the halls, where his next targets were together.

He brought out his left arm once again and punched the nearest wall, creating a sphere with a blazing orange circle flashing near the top, and making a riot shield with the tips of his fingers.

["A creator and a destroyer."]

Bomberman kicked the bomb he created, letting it fly into the room while he picked up the shield and used it as a cover.

The bomb blew, taking down the two androids while the fire emitted a bright orange light.

Using the shield, he slowly made his way to the remaining targets and began his assault.

The two survivors trained their SMGs at him and fired, denting and scratching the shield with a rain of copper and lead-

He stopped for a moment and took cover at a pillar to see the damage. He made a tense shrug of relief that the shield he created was only scratched and dented, meaning it was safe enough for him to soak up the damage and worry about it later.

["His fire suit is made out of an alloy of graphene and kevlar. The body underneath is a special titanium alloy as well. This will help him be nimble and durable during combat scenarios when he has to finish something off up close. He even has synthetic skin, hair, and flesh to help him blend in with the world around us."]

Indeed like what Harrow said, Bomberman ran at the two gunmen without any protection. He was pelted, but he did not flinch. He made his way towards the first of the two, receiving two slashes from his first target.

He retaliated by grabbing the man's ribcage and flipping it into his face, snapping and shattering his victim's spine and collarbones before pushing him down, crushing the lower half and the femurs shredding his organs.

The man tried to scream, but the pain was too much to bear. He could only croak as he felt his ribcage with the tip of his lips.

The second fired more bullets at Bomberman, only to shoot his comrade to death.

The android picked up the dead man's SMG and began firing at the final gunman, who retaliated by aiming for the head.

["Within the past year he has been active, we had very few issues with Bomberman."]

Bomberman's radio got damaged from a stray bullet, leaving the antenna tip to glow red and signify how severe the damage was.

["His antenna could get destroyed if he isn't careful."]

He felt the damage and glared, warping the atoms around him whilst powering up his left arm.

(/MENTAL PROHIBITOR DISABLED/) were the words that appeared in Bomberman's hud now. The android vehemently ignored it.

["Luckily, it is cheap."]

Bomberman aimed his fist at the man and fired a stun grenade, which shattered the bones in his hips with one shot.

"AAARGH!" the victim howled as he crumpled to the floor.

He could see the pair of white eyes surrounded by a pool of teal and cyan. Those eyes held a pit of hollow anger. As though he was possessed and was never there.

["Unfortunately, it takes time to fix such an ordinary piece of communication. Its only purpose is to establish a link for Bomberman and the bombs he instantaneously creates."]

Bomberman stomped his way to the man and grabbed him by the throat. Using his left gauntlet, he inwardly sighed as the man tried reaching for anything he could find to stab him, and began excessively heating the air around the both of them.

It was searing hot. Beyond that of a desert. The man was shriveling like a raisin as the android tightened his grip. His skin charred. He began to slowly disintegrate. He was dead without making any noise.

The corpses that were the man's comrades faced the same fate no matter the distance. They disintegrated and had their ashes used to fix any damages in the building.

Bomberman flexed his wrist once the disintegrating particles that used to be a human shooter began falling to the floor and filled the holes made by the bullets.

(/OBJECTIVE COMPLETE/)

(/MISSION OBJECTIVES CORRUPTED/)

The lone android made a soft grumble as he realized what it meant. 'Corrupted?'

(/NEW OBJECTIVE: INVESTIGATE ANOMALIES/)

Looking at his objectives, he made his way to the rooftop, where he looked around for a few minutes.

The door opened, His fists clenched tightly, but didn't heat the air this time. The android was still, looking behind his back menacingly.

["The worst problem we have is that someone copied the schematics and sold it to multiple companies without our permission."]

Two androids barged out, beating and banging at each other. One black, one green.

Bomberman had to duck from another two in red and blue suddenly crashing into the ground from a shockwave. A yellow android was flung out of nowhere and collided with the green and black androids at the other side of the rooftop.

Getting up from the ground, he was nearly caught off guard when two androids nearly hit him instead of each other. They were colored magenta and cyan.

The androids ignored him as they fought each other with the intent to kill. They tried to harm each other, but only waste energy as they were ganged up by one of the other androids in the area, trying to find someone to attack.

The air heated up.

Bomberman looked at them. He observed what they are and scanned them discreetly. He was deliberately shocked that there were more like himself but... different.

The black android made a hammer fist on the green, crushing its radio before having its radio ripped off from a quick swipe.

The red, blue, and yellow androids made blunt weapons, swinging them into each other's radios.

The Magenta android backed up from its cyan counterpart when it gave a few roundhouse kicks. A lucky strike hit it in the face, dislodging its radio. In retaliation, it took its time to grab its counterpart when it kicked to push it down to the ground, damaging the radio to the point of uselessness.

The brawling androids were going to make another set of crushing blow to each other, but were cut off from a loud explosion that sent most of them crumpling to the ground in pain.

Bomberman stood there with an annoyed grimace, carrying a flashbang with his left hand. The other android standing is a guy, just like Bomberman, but black and in an almost similar color palette.

The two looked at each other before Bomberman introduced himself, poise and unmoving.

"... Bomberman. Orange Horizon."

The black android wiped the right side of his helmet with a weak eye-smile. "Sombre... Dynasty Dynamics..."

Sombre fell to the ground, unmoving.

Bomberman looked at all of the androids and piled them onto each other. He will have to hide them in an abandoned facility to interrogate them. Politely, because of his growing curiosity...

["We are deciding what to do about the counterparts with companies like Dynasty Dynamics so we can put an end to the problem while it is still growing slowly."]
