"Yeah well, just because you learn about the Battle of Gettysburg doesn't mean you shouldn't be worried if you suddenly found yourself in the middle of it," Nick insisted, "Come on," he told the girls, "We better catch up with them before they walk into the path of a killer unicorn or something."

Nick frowned, noticing the tree stump that they had just passed for the third time. Of course, he should have known, changing paths, they were common in enchanted forests, but if you knew how the paths changed you wouldn't get lost. That was something Phineas could have helped them with.

"Xander," he called out, hating to break the news, "We're going in circles, we've passed this stump three times."

"We are not," Xander insisted.

"We are too," Nick insisted, "Look enchanted forests tend to have wandering paths, the paths move, so if we follow the paths instead of the landmarks then we're going to get lost."

"Oh so you're so smart huh, how do you even know all this stuff?"

"It's part of my family's legacy," Nick snapped, "But why should you care that I grew up with stories about this place, you aren't listening to me. Who cares that I know more than you do."

"The only reason you know more than we do is because you grew up with magic and spells and all that stuff."

"No I didn't actually, yes I knew that they existed, but I didn't know anyone who could use them. Aunt Star did, but not me, all I knew where people with powers, magic that worked in one specific way, like my mother's healing powers, or energy blasts, or my Dad's ability to phase through anything and turn invisible, or Kira's sonic scream, or Ruby's ability to teleport, or Troy's super grip, or Grace's invisibility, or what ever Schuyler's current power is, he develops a different one every few days. Dad says he'll get his permanent power by the time he hits puberty."

"Wait, so you're the only one in your family who didn't have powers?" Chip asked, "That must have been awkward, I would have jumped up and down with joy when I was chosen if that was the case."

"Uh, Guys," Maddy called out, nervously, lifting her hand up to allow to snowflakes to land.

"No my oldest sister Ronny doesn't have any powers yet, and it is a sensitive subject, she wants nothing more than to join the power ranger family."

"Uh, Nick," Maddy called out again, this time a little louder.

"Whoa, guys, look, it's snowing," Chip shouted.

"In July?" V asked.

"Actually July is in the middle of winter in New Zealand."

"I don't care, Xander," Nick exclaimed, "This is the northern hemisphere, July is in the middle of Summer, and that can only mean, we need to hide, now."

"Why," Maddy asked, "What's wrong?"

"Ever heard of a snow Wraith?" Nick asked, "They hunt by causing blizzards, freezing and blinding its pray, and for your information, humans are considered a delicacy to them."

"Awesome," Chip shouted.

"You wouldn't be saying that when the snow wraith eats you," V insisted, following Nick, "Where do we go?" she demanded.

"I don't know," Nick shouted back, "I have no idea where we are."

"What happened to that monster repellent that you made us put on, it isn't doing us any good."

"Wraiths don't have much of a sense of smell, it doesn't work on them."

"Great," Xander muttered, "Any other monsters that it doesn't work on that would gladly eat us?"

"Killer Unicorns and Dragons, and griffins but that's about it," Nick said, "Come on, we need to disguise our heat signiture."

"And how exactly do we do that?" V demanded.

"At the moment, just run," Nick instructed, "Come on."

"Where exactly are we going?" Maddy asked as she hurried after the others.

"Wraiths are slow, they rely on hypothermia to slow down their prey, we have to move out of the snow, like now."

The five friends crashed through the woods as the snow begun to grow thicker and the flakes bigger.

"Not this way," Nick called out, "The other way, we're running straight at it."

"How can you tell, I can't see a thing," Xander insisted, "Let's keep heading this way."

"No, we really should head a different direction," Nick insisted, "It's getting colder and the flakes are getting bigger, and a winds picked up that means we're getting closer."

"Why do you have to be a know it all?"

"I'm not being a..." Nick trailed off, reaching under his shirt and pulling out his ring, "Everybody get down, don't move and don't make a sound."

"Why?"

"Just do it Xander," Maddy snapped, "We already know from experience that Nick knows way more about this forest than we do."

"Shouldn't we ranger up?" Chip demanded as he sprawled on the ground.

"I wish we can," Nick stated, pulling the ring off its chain and slipping it onto his right ring finger, "The forest messes with powers, honestly I'm surprised my ring is still working. Hopefully it has enough power to scare off whatever it sensed coming this way."

"Um, Nick," Maddy called out softly as she noticed something, her feet had already sunk into the ground.

"Don't worry," Nick said, "Aunt Star taught me what to do in case I need to use the ring for more than protection."

"But Nick!" Maddy called out.

"We're sinking!" V added.

Nick glanced down, surprised to discover that his feet had completely disappeared.

"Way to go Nick," Xander growled, "You led us right into quick sand."

"Keep moving," Nick ordered, "Get to the other side."

"No, head this way," Xander countered, moving in the opposite direction.

"No," Nick insisted, "There's snow on that side, and there isn't any snow on this side, we need to head this way."

"Well, you haven't looked at the map, and I have a thousand times, and we have to go this way."

Nick didn't bother listening any more, he just moved away from the others and climbed up out of the mud and quick sand, before helping V up.

"I'll cover your weekend shifts for the next three weeks," Xander insisted.

"I always wanted to see a Wraith," Chip announced, following Xander away from Nick.

Maddy glanced at V and Nick before she followed after Xander herself.

"Splitting up is the worst thing we could have done,"Nick muttered as he continued on his way.
