*Some magical portal you're just now noticing* Hola, Konichiwa, Salut, and Hi. What has two thumbs and promised to update once a week and then kind of disappeared for a while? This guy. So I wanted to apologize for making the empty promise that I was going to update more and then doing the exact opposite so to those of you who kind of like this story I'm sorry. But I did want to make it up to you by publishing a chapter a day early. This is my present from me to you. But besides that, I hope that you'll be happy to know that this chapter is over 3,000 words so now you'll be able to read a bit more. There is also a lot of flirting between your two favorite characters so yeah. As usual, I'm talking a lot so I'm going to stop holding you up and let you enjoy the beautiful mess known as Angelica Schuyler and Alexander Hamilton.
Saturdays were always interesting days for Angelica Schuyler. In all honesty, anything could happen on a Saturday. You could be reciting your vows to the so-called love of your life or you could be in the process of signing the final documents of your divorce settlement. On a Saturday you could be putting down a loan for your dream home but you could also be rereading your eviction notice for a shitty apartment you know you pay way too much rent for. All in all the possibilities of a Saturday were endless but sometimes endless was just a recipe for disaster.
Angelica knew walking into this Brunch that this afternoon could either be extremely well for her or problematic in every humanly way possible. Knowing her family Angelica wasn't going to go with the latter. Angelica didn't know what it was about that particular day but she just had the feeling that her family was going to make her life 10 times harder than it had to be. Maybe it was the way Angelica's youngest sister, Margarita was in an uncherteristly good mood and didn't seem to have the urge to ruin anyone's life. It could also be the way her father didn't welcome his four children with a two-hour lecture on how they could better their already pathetic lives. But if Angelica had to account for the oddest thing this Saturday it would have to be how extremely chipper Catherine Schuyler was that afternoon. Not to say Angelica's mother wasn't a happy person she just wasn't that happy. You see Angelica's own personality was somehow very similar but oh so different to her mother's. She had layers, stages you might even call them and there were a few stages that you never wanted to be in. For example, Angelica was a very extroverted and social person but there were times that she could be considered cold and standoffish and not to say that was necessarily a bad thing but if you got to the point where she wouldn't say a word and was just silently looking at you. Well that was when you knew you were in trouble and all you could do was pray that God would take pity on you and you would somehow find your way back into Angelica's good graces. That was the stage of Angelica's personality you never wanted to find yourself in but if you were talking about Catherine Schuyler that's a completely different sport. Not even a ballgame, just a brand new genre of physical competitive activity.
Catherine Schuyler was the complete opposite. Strangely enough, you felt most comfortable when she was ignoring and silently judging you so when you took all of this into account you could only be skeptical when she greeted you with a warm smile and a hug. And Angelica was not the only one. Even Angelica's own father can't properly mask his confusion.
Catherine smoothed the wrinkles of her flowy sundress before placing her hands in her lap and putting on the most unnatural smile Angelica had ever seen.
Catherine sighed in annoyance.
"Are you guys serious ?"
Angelica, along with the rest of her family looked up to meet Catherine Schuylers irritated gaze.
"The Kennedys would talk about everything under the sun and we can't even manage to have a simple conversation."
When no one offered anything but side-eyed stares Catherine put it upon herself to share her own news. She started her introduction to the announcement by picking on her eldest daughter.
"Angelica?"
Angelica reluctantly veered her attention towards her expectant mother.
"Yes, Ma,"
"Do you know what's coming up?"
"You're finally going to kick Angelica out of your will."
"Margret!"
Angelica looked back at her sister who had a hopeful look on her face. Only Margarita Schuyler would voluntarily talk about her parents' finances at brunch
"What! It's not that crazy of a question. I'm just saying you should consider it."
Philip Schuyler ran his hand down his face in the exhaustion only a parent could understand.
"Margaret. We have been over this. None of your siblings are getting cut out of our will and if they were you'd be the very last to know."
Margret rolled her eyes before making eye contact with Angelica to give her the smuggest look she could.
Catherine noticed the unpleasant interaction between her oldest and youngest daughter and made a segway into a new conversation topic before this brunch took a very ugly turn.
"Okay well, I have some very exciting news."
Damnit. Catherine Schuyler and exciting did not go well with each other. For her, excitement either meant a dinner party or some sort of social interaction with people Angelica had learned to hate over the course of her life.
"Since no one is saying anything I'll just tell you. I'm sure you all know that your father's Summer Gala is right around the corner."
"Yes ma, we know that the gala thingy is coming. We've been going since I was 7."
"Angelica, do you always have to have a smartass comment."
Angelica sighed and threw her hands up in surrender."
"I'm sorry. Continue."
Catherine smiled at her daughter in fake appreciation.
"Thank you, Now you all know how your father and I host the Gala every year but we've recently decided that it will no longer be our responsibility. Instead … it will be Angelica's."
"What! Ma you can't be serious."
"I am very serious. Now would you please let me finish?"
Angelica put her head in her hands and prayed that her mother would take pity on her and rid her of the responsibility that came with being a hostess."
"Please Ma, whatever I've done I'm sorry just don't make me do this. I am literally begging you."
"Angelica if you would just stop talking I could finish what I'm trying to say."
Angelica didn't say anything. She didn't have the energy.
"Angelica you will not have to host the entire Gala. All you will have to do is walk around and smile."
"Your father and I will still rent out the venue- the venue being a penthouse or ballroom. But you will be responsible for providing the Gala dessert."
The Gala dessert was a tradition that had been a part of her entire life. Every year someone(Eliza) would create an absolutely stunning cake or tart that all of the spoiled guests would be able to enjoy. Now the only problem with this arrangement was that Angelica couldn't cook. She could make macaroni and cheese and toast. That's where her culinary abilities began and ended so it was accurate to say Angelica was in for one hell of a ride.
Angelica looked around to meet her mothers eyes and realised that no amount of begging was going to get her out of this she said anything could happen on a Saturday.
TO BE YOU AND IN LOVE .
"So how was your weekend?"
Angelica looked up from her flimsy styrofoam box that was holding her overpriced stir fry before stabbing it with her plastic fork out of frustration.
It was shit."
Right now Angelica was in the middle of her lunch break desperately trying to rack her brain for ideas on how to create a perfect French cuisine with little to no experience or skill. The rest of her coworkers had been filling in one another on their weekends and because Angelica was a jealous person and didn't want to hear about her colleagues carefree time off compared to her shitty one she decided she would just take her anger out on her poor styrofoam container and hopefully that would give off the idea that Angelica was in no mood to talk to anyone. Unfortunately, it would seem that Dolly's immense need to be polite clouded her judgment, and rather than leave Angelica alone like she wanted Dolly decided that she would take it upon herself to invite Angelica into the conversation she so desperately didn't want to be a part of.
Dolly looked at Angelica in pity.
"Why was it so horrible?"
Angelica sighed and ran her hand down her face in exhaustion.
"Well, my dear wonderful, loving mother decided that I, her daughter who could burn a pot of water would be a wonderful candidate for a side caterer for the summer gala."
Dolly clicked her tongue in understanding but before she could offer a solution Angelica didn't want Burr came up with his own.
"So just don't it."
Angelica turned around fast enough to give herself whiplash.
"What?"
Aaron shrugged as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Don't do it. You're a big girl. And besides what's the worst she can do?"
Angelica laughed and shook her head at Aaron's obliviousness to her mother's wrath.
"You don't say no to any mother. Let alone mine."
Aaron rolled his eyes at Angelica's refusal to accept any solution to her problem.
"Then I don't know what to tell you, Angelica. Figure it out ."
"Figure what out?"
Everyone looked up from each other and their conversation to see Alexander Hamilton leaning against the break room counter waiting for the Keurig to finish making the beverage he just couldn't seem to get enough of.
"Figure out how Angelicas is gonna survive the summer gala."
Angelica shot the oversharing Dolly a look but all she did was stare back at her with a shocked expression.
"What? I was just telling him."
Alexander's eyebrow arched in sudden interest.
"What's wrong Angelica, I thought you liked people."
Angelica made a childish face before standing up to get her own cup of coffee. She wasn't the biggest fan of the drink, she preferred her beverages to be sweet but she was determined to gain everyone's respect, and if the black bitter liquid is what it took she guessed she would be drinking coffee for a while.
"No, it's not the people. It's the food."
Alexander made a face and looked to Dolly and Aaron for answers. When he found none he turned back to Angelica.
"I don't get it. You don't want to go because of the food."
"Yes!"
Alexander laughed as if it were the funniest thing In the world but when you really thought about it it was.
"Angelica. I don't know why you're so upset. You will literally be eating the best food money can buy and you're having a tantrum."
"I'm not having a tantrum Alexander! I'm upset because my mother thought that her very unqualified daughter is capable of creating some magical dessert that I obviously don't know how to make."
Alexander leaned back in his chair and took a sip of coffee.
"Okay. I'll help you."
"What?"
Alexander shrugged in the most nonchalant manner he could.
"I said I'll help you. It's not a big deal I know how to cook."
Angelica smirked and crossed her arms across her chest.
"You know how to cook."
"Yeah."
"Can you cook well?"
"I've never been to culinary school Angelica but I did live with Martha Washington until I was 18. I was bound to learn something. And honestly what other choices do you have."
Angelica sighed but yet she couldn't help but smile.
"Are you free after work?"
"I'm always free."
"That's a lie but at this point I'm desperate."
"I'll see you after work."
"I don't know where you live."
"I'll text you my address."
"I don't have your number."
"I'll give you my number."
Alexander threw his empty paper cup into the trash and ran until he was in front of her.
"How soon."
Angelica grinned at Alexander's impatience.
"Why are you so eager to get my number?"
"Because Angelica, I like you, and getting your number is the easiest way to get you to like me."
I already like you, Alexander, That Is what Angelica wanted to say but she didn't. Instead, she said
"You think you can make me like you?"
"It's worth a shot."
Angelica grinned. A challenge if she ever saw one.
"Don't waste your shot, Alexander. I don't give out second chances."
"Is that so."
"It is."
Angelica looked away from Alexander's enticing eyes and down to his suit pocket where she conveniently found a pen. She grabbed it with ease and then grabbed his hand and wrote her number on it.
Alexander looked down at his hand with a surprised look.
"What the hell are you doing?"
"Writing the number that you so desperately wanted."
"On my hand?"
"Yeah."
" reason to waste paper on you."
Alexander winced as if she had physically assaulted him.
"Ow, that hurt."
Angelica rolled her eyes while putting the pen back in his pocket and giving him a small pat in the head before turning around on her heel.
"There you go, Alexander. See you at 9"
"What about 8:35"
Angelica turned around to put a hand on her hip
" 8:40"
"8:45"
"Don't push it."
Alexander smiled and threw his hands up in surrender.
"Alright alright, 8:40. But I can't promise I won't be there early."
"You are ridiculous, you know that."
"What can I say, Schuyler. Love makes me crazy."
Angelica choked out a laugh before once again turning on her heel to walk the other way.
"Goodbye Hamilton."
"Bye Angelica, see you tonight."
Angelica smiled and with that, the two adults walked away.
TO BE YOUNG AND IN LOVE .
Time had never been on Angelica's side. She wasn't sure what personal vendetta the hours, minutes, and seconds had against her but she wasn't too concerned about that right now. No, right now Angelica was desperately running around looking for flour, eggs, salt, and anything else that would be beneficial to making any type of edible cuisine. You would think that a normal functioning adult would have at least a few of the ingredients needed to feed themselves but that was not Angelica. She depended on takeout and pre-prepared food. It was really no surprise that she didn't know how to cook for herself. Angelica Schuyler was spoiled rotten from the minute she was brought into the world and because of that she never needed to know how to do anything because there was always someone else to do it for her. Maybe that was her downfall. Never being able to think for herself. To talk for herself, Hell she wasn't even able to love for herself. Anyone Catherine and Philip Schuyler disapproved of was quickly judged and isolated from Angelica at all costs but that was just the price you paid when you were Angelica Schuyler.
Angelica didn't know how long she was in her thoughts but it must've been a substantial amount of time because by the time she looked up it was already 8:40 and a knock at the door.
Angelica ran to the door and it was no surprise when she saw Alexander Hamilton on the other side.
"Hey, Schuyler."
Angelica waved and subconsciously tucked a strand of her long curly hair behind her ear.
"So are you ready?"
Angelica sighed in embarrassment."
"Almost, but we have one problem."
"And that is."
"Well, I have absolutely no food in my entire apartment."
Alexander smiled and bent down to pick up two bags filled to the brim with groceries Angelica was now just noticing.
"I came prepared."
"How did you know Hamilton?"
Alexander shrugged.
"You're easy to read. Now, have you ever baked a cake before?
TO BE YOUNG AND IN LOVE .
By the time Angelica and Alexander were finished she was left with a messy kitchen, flour on her nose, a beautiful cake, and a smiling Alexander Hamilton by her side.
"Wow."
Angelica took a step back to admire their creation from afar. Angelica looked up at Alexander who was looking at their cake the same way a proud parent would look at their child. Alexander caught Angelica's look and nudged her with his elbow.
"What do you think?"
"I think she's beautiful."
Alexander looked down at Angelica with an amused smile
"She?"
Angelica nodded with certainty.
"Yes she."
"Our cake is a she."
"Yeah."
"Why."
"Because this cake is beautiful, intelligent, and overall perfect. Only a female could be this flawless."
Alexander nodded his head in agreement.
"So what's her name?"
"Her name?"
"Yes Angelica, her name. You can't just assign her a gender and not give her a name. She deserves one."
Angelica bit down on her lip in consideration. Angelica and Alexander stood in silence before she caught a glimpse of Alexander's eye light up.
" What about Madonna."
Angelica choked out a laugh.
"Madonna?"
Alexander shrugged.
"Why not. Madonna is beautiful, intelligent, and flawless."
"You forgot the overall perfect."
"Ahh yes. How could I forget, Madonna is also practically perfect in every way."
Angelica glanced over at Alexander.
"Mary poppins?"
"Who else."
Alexander exhaled before clapping his hands together, making the flour that had previously been on them fly in the air and fall down like snow.
"We should probably clean up and put this cake out of the reach of children."
Angelica looked around.
"You do know that I live alone."
Alexander tapped Angelica's nose and she scrunched it up in a way that could only be described as adorable.
"I'm talking about you Angelica."
"Fuck you Hamilton."
Putting away the cake was easy. Catherine Schuyler had let Angelica use her prized cake stand so long as Angelica promised to not destroy it and Angelica intended on keeping that promise. Angelica had never been one for cleaning or organization but she quickly learned that when you had someone as interesting as Alexander Hamilton helping you anything could be interesting. Even the mundane task of cleaning a kitchen.
After kitchen cleanup the two retreated to Angelica's living room couch because Alexander didn't seem ready to leave and truth be told Angelica didn't want him to either.
"So are you coming Friday?"
Alexander afforded Angelica a small shake of his head before returning his attention to whatever was on the T.V. .Angelica didn't know what it was though. All her attention was focused on Alexander Hmailton.
"No."
Angelica sat up fast and harsh enough to throw herself and Alexander off the couch.
"What, Why?"
Alexander laughed before sitting up to meet Angelica's eyes.
"I just hadn't planned on it. And why do you care anyway."
"Because you can't expect me to watch Madonna be eaten alive without you. That would be wrong."
"I'm sure Madonna will be just fine without me."
Angelica frowned, unsatisfied with this answer. Angelica tugged on Alexander's arm in an attempt to persuade him. She knew it wasn't the most mature solution but she had found it to be the most effective when it came to getting what she wanted.
"C'mon, you expect me to believe that you hadn't planned on attending this Gala."
"Yes."
"Bullshit."
Alexander sickered at Angelica's demanding manner.
"Tell me why you don't want to go."
"You'll laugh."
"I won't laugh."
"How do I know."
"Because I'm the most honest woman to walk the face of the earth."
"I watched you lie your way out of a library fine."
Angelica held up her hand in objection.
"Correction. I persuaded my way out of a library fine. And it worked thank you very much. Now tell me why you don't want to go. I'm getting tired of talking about my fabulous lies."
Angelica flipped her long hair over her shoulder to emphasize just how fabulous.
Alexander shifted just enough to where he could look Angelica in the eyes but turn away in embarrassment if need be.
"I don't want to go because I can't dance."
Angelica stared at the man in front of her in disbelief. A full 15 seconds passed between the two before Angelica gave up trying to hold in her laughter. Angelica allowed her laugh to escape her lips while clenching her sides and falling on her back. As much as she didn't want to she couldn't help it.
Alexander frowned at Angelica with more amusement than anything else.
"You said you wouldn't laugh."
" I know but I was expecting some sort of dark secret, not that you can't dance?"
Alexander rolled his eyes and threw one of Angelica's many throw pillows at her face and shfell to the floor laughing. Not that the impact was enough to knock her down but due to her lack of control over her laughing body Angelica decided that she would rather just fall to the floor than fight it. Angelica was laughing and rolling for all of 2 minutes. By the time she was done her eyes were wet with tears and her sides ached.
Angelica looked up from her spot on the floor to see Alexander looking at her with the most genuine smile she had ever seen.
"What?"
"Nothing."
Angelica rolled over before standing up and holding out her hand or Alexander to take.
"So are you ready?"
Alexander looked at Angelica with a perplexed expression.
"For what?"
"For your dancing lesson."
Alex crossed his arms over his chest and allowed his eyebrows to reach the top of his hairline in amusement.
"My dancing lesson."
"Yes."
"Why."
"Because I can't cook and you can't dance. After I help you we'll be even. Fair."
Alexander looked around. Probably for an escape but eventually he reluctantly placed his hands into Angelica's smaller ones. Angelica smiled in victory before running to the other side of her living room.
"What are you doing?"
Angelica looked over her shoulder before pulling out what she liked to call her magic maker. Her magic maker being an old record player and a single Elvis record to go with it. Angelica stepped back and gestured towards her treasure.
"You can't dance without music."
"Yes, you can."
This was the thing about Alexander. He was always up for a challenge. It didn't matter how big or insignificant it was. He was always ready.
Angelica clicked her tongue as though she were thinking.
"Maybe-
Angelica gently placed the stylus on the record and allowed Elvis Presly's voice to sing the first verse of Can't help Falling In Love With You.
"But-
Angelica wrapped her arms around Alexander's neck and let his hands reach the small of her back.
"It's so much better when you have something to hum along to."
And that's exactly what they did. Angelia soon realized that the easiest way to teach Alexander to dance was the way her mother had taught her. 1-2-3- spin. It was simple enough and honestly it was a lot more fun than teaching him traditional waltz. Angelica and Alexander were humming along to whatever song was on Angelica's record when he spun Angelica around the way you would do with a bride or a princess. She had no problem with being spun, he had already done it several times that night but this time it was different. This time she felt something.
This time Angelica spun right into Alexander's chest and not the two inches away they were both expecting. If this were any other guy than Alexander Hamilton Angelica would already have this man wrapped around her finger. If this had been any other individual other than Alexander Hailton she would be seamlessly flirting to the point where the recipient of the affection wouldn't know what to do with themselves. If this hadn't been Alexander Hamilton Angelica Schuyler would've had control over the pounding feeling in her chest and the numb feeling in her legs. Unfortunately this was not the current situation and the part of her brain that always to help her in the romantic department seemed to be on vacation, So the only thing that came out of Angelica's mouth in her paralzyd state was-
"Hi."
Alexander smiled back.
"Hi to you too."
Angelica nodded and opened her mouth to say hi yet again, because it was the only word her lips could form when she stumbled in Alexander ligt 's grip on Angelica's back tightened just enough to steady her because he also seemed to notice that her legs were giving out.
"Okay, let's get you to a place where you won't slip into a coma if you fall."
Even when Angelia didn't have the ability to properly function Alexander still had jokes. She liked him a little bit more for that reason and that reason alone.
"No, I don't want to sit down."
Alexander glanced at Angelica in curiosity.
"No?"
Angelica shook her head in defiance.
"No."
"Why not."
"Because I like where I am."
"And where's that."
"Here."
And that's when Angelica's reckless, loving, carefree nature seemed to come back and rush through her veins like a drug. Angelica grabbed the sides of his face and smashed her lips against his. Usually, she would rush through a kiss, so she wouldn't be disappointed when it didn't last but with Alexander Hamilton, she took her time. She took her time inhaling the scent of his cologne, running her fingers through his soft raven hair, and tasting his lips that had the same flavor as coffee. Angelica Schuyler enjoyed Alexander Hamilton.
And that's the story of how Angelica Schuyler accidentally fell in love with Alexander Hamilton. Alexander didn't go home until the next morning and he never left her mind.
Hi again! So what did you guys think? feel free to leave reviews for anything you'd like to see from this story in the future. I don't really have much else to say other than thanks for reading and see you next week. *hopefully.*
